biggest concerns this morning is not just here in acadiana and around the state it comes to travel and right now we have thomas gossen from louisiana state police he's the public information officer and talking about road safety and one of the things that probably is the number one question is sir when do we think these roads are going to be reopening yeah unfortunately i don't have a time frame on that it's not like a natural a disaster situation where we can see a cleanup and see the progress this is all dictated by the weather so um the question is you know are the roadways still closed and unfortunately the answer is yes so we have itn that's closed down from i-49 all the way to baton rouge unfortunately yesterday evening they had to shut down the new bridge on on across the mississippi river on it on i-10 so that's now shut down so you'd have to divert onto 415 and go to the uh to the old bridge uh their section of i-49 that are closed as well above alexandria going off so going north is really not a good option either um it's it's they've gotten a lot worse uh conditions than we've gotten as far as snow wise um us 90 and in new iberia we still have overpasses open you can detour off with them and get back on uh but then when you get to morgan city the morning city bridge is shut down so it's just it's just not a good situation we're asking people just to continue not to travel on these roadways um again today and probably through tomorrow it's just we still got a lot of ice you know form that has formed and it's not going away uh with these cold temperatures so again it's just an unsafe situation i would encourage people to go to the dotd website to check these road closures that are done they're done up to the minute so dotd has that website is 511la.org and you can access that on your smartphone sir we got about 15 seconds do you feel like people heeded the warning did you have to work a lot of crashes you know we had an average of about four or five yesterday an hour which is not bad considering uh the con what's going on at the last ice event we had probably probably you know triple that so it the people were off the roadways and we were happy to see that we hope it continues excellent thomas gossen from louisiana state police thanks again for all of you who are helping us out and keeping those roads safe
