There won't be any shadow of Oasis at the Etihad
Stadium because Manchester City's stadium is still being expanded. Any thoughts of seeing the
band perform there next summer have been dashed. Instead, Noel and Liam Gallagher,
the band's ardent supporters, who declared this morning that
they had brought the group back, will play a number of shows in the
expansive Heaton Park of the city. Months of persistent, widespread rumors of a comeback put the Etihad as the
front-runner to host several dates. However, a massive, ongoing project that will
add 400 hotel rooms and increase the stadium's capacity to 61,000 will not be finished by
the time the Burnage brothers take the stage. The Etihad is already underway with work. A single
upper tier will be added to City's north stand, providing space for 3,000 fans and featuring a
covered fan zone with food and drink outlets, a stadium roof walk experience,
and a sky bar with views of the playing field. There will also be a
new hotel, museum, and club store. As part of a £300 million investment, the
hotel and other projects are scheduled to be finished by 2026, with the north stand
itself opening during the following season. The 2009 breakup band Oasis will perform
four times at Wembley and Heaton Park, and round out the 16-date calendar with
performances in Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Dublin. At a later time, more
European events might be included. Both brothers are devoted City supporters, and Noel is frequently seen
at both home and away games.
