[Music] hi everyone this is Abigail Mangal with the nocturno and I'm here at the Red Carpet premiere for three women which Premier is on Star September 13th so how was this experience oh it was life-changing it was incredible uh it was my first time showrunning and I couldn't have wished for more beautiful deep incredible transformative experience or piece of work to have the opportunity to work on yeah tell me what was your favorite part to film or what is your favorite part that you're excited to see come on the screen there's so much I mean our cast is incredible so every day on set was a joy I think one of the really special things is the character of Maggie uh went to Hawaii and had a sort of a love story there and we were able to go to Hawaii and her story set in North Dakota and then suddenly you're in this unbelievable landscape of Hawaii and I think it's really surprising and so gorgeous and that was one of my favorite parts to film cuz we actually got to go there and then I think visually and experientially when you watch the show it's really transports you to this different place and I'm excited for people to experience that that would be my favorite part too going to Hawaii great it was pretty great so what's the message you really want the audience to receive well it's four female leads that are telling four really different stor stories and for me I hope that everybody will recognize a part of themselves in one of the characters and really feel less alone if there's something that she's keeping to herself or not being brave about voicing about a want or a desire in the world I'm hoping that it emboldens people to speak out more about what they want and go after and to go after it first tell us a little bit about Will and how would you describe him Will's kind of like a I don't know I I've never thought about this before but it's kind of like a modern day pirate right I mean he he lives on a boat he he's hard to nail down he kind of coasts from town to town picks up different work um you know when our story picks up he's kind of a stranger to the area he's he's just come in to help his grandfather and so yeah he's a bit of a vagabond but I think he's a guy with a good heart uh and I I I think it's pretty clear from the beginning but even people with good Hearts can get wrapped up in choices that have serious repercussions especially when it involves falling in love with a woman so yeah or multiple women different types of love for different women yeah uh what was your favorite part of filming uh you know so much I mean the people involved were incredible I mean our our directors were all women and they were incredible um having Lisa here who's you know the writer and everything she was great to have around she's so the character she created for danda and shayen and Betty and all the girls it's just really rich character work so uh seeing those talented actresses I mean all that was great you can't you can't beat the crew we had there uh but the locations were amazing too we were shooting shooting a lot in the Hamptons to double for um Martha's Vineyard and it was in the winter so yes cold but kind of magical to be out there on the boat with no one around I heard that's the best time to go actually I I've heard some people that are fans of it yeah it turns into like a small town instead of like a upscale New York Party Town yeah but it was beautiful being there yeah oh great um what is the message you would like the audience to receive you know I think I think there's a lot of messages because there's three different stories you know and maybe at least mine and and potentially the others as well I think it shows that uh even though a choice or your actions within a relationship might seem fun at the time and spicy sexy if you will uh there always can be a downside um you know there's a yin and yang to everything and when it comes to relationships I think you really have to examine what the toll is going to be when you make certain choices but it's also complicated and hopefully we show how complicated that is how was that experience it was a beautiful experience um she is a fierce actress you know U the thing I love most about her is her fearlessness and she just said i' like it dirty so I don't know which way I'm going to go and I'm like that's awesome I like that that brings a whole another level of life to it so I'm going ride with you we going to dance and and we did with a incredibly sensitive subject matter yes and I'm glad that we're tackling it especially now you know Absol and in this social media age kids are going accelerating they're growing up faster but they don't have the infrastructure and the understanding of how deep it is and believe it or not the manipulation can be even worse because they have a false sense of agency yes so it was just wonderful to be able to play this role of a detective who wasn't misogynist you know and and wasn't like a boys locker room kind of guy and he had the level of sensitivity necessary to help her feel comfortable opening up and and and kind of held her hand if you will through the process and uh I really appreciate that and I hope it inspires Law Enforcement Officers to really step up their game and come with that vulnerability and come with that true listening ear and nonjudgment well you answered my next question which was going to be how would you describe your character but you did it so beautifully so what's the message you want the audience to receive uh I want young people male and female to recognize that be brave I love it step up yeah say what it is and I want law enforcement to be there out stretch hands come on sit take your time find it trust me I'm here now if we can do that we going to end up with a better Society New York Times bestselling author how does that feel um you know it feels good it's good it's good and it turns into a show a very great show and how was that it it was um you know it was a lot but it it one of the things that I wanted from the start was to make sure that the truth of the women and the sort of the the rawness of it was maintained um and I wanted women to feel seen by watching it as much as the people who had read it had felt I just wanted each person as my sincere hope that everybody of any gender who watches it sees himself in 1 2 three or all four of the women or any of the other characters I think that's the goal is being able to put yourself into someone else's shoes so that you can empathize with them um what what is your favorite part maybe your favorite character what's your favorite part of the series oh gosh um that's really tough I they're all my favorite I it's like a mother you don't have favorites it's really hard um I think that one of the things I can say is that um Betty Gilpin when she when I first saw an audition of her version of Lena I thought that she had met Lena yeah because it was so I was and I still to this day am not entirely sure that she didn't no I'm kidding I know she didn't but um it is a shocking portrayal of of I think that it's just one of the most uh lit up performances I've seen in a long time and the fact that it was someone I knew that someone else didn't and yet utterly became it is kind of phenomenal so you play Maggie it was a very interesting character um I just interviewed obviously your love interest the teacher oh yes so how was that experience oh my gosh it was such a yeah um it's such a long time ago um challenging amazing at the same time um it was a very power like I don't know powerful is the right word I don't even know that that makes sense but it was to be able to tell this story was a immense lot to me and um I think Maggie's story really I remember reading the scripts for the first time and having like an emotional response to it and like you know that's when something is great like when something is like oh I have to do this so it was very yeah it was it was difficult at times and challenging but um we got there in the end and now here we are here we are and you did amazing thank you is there anything you want young girls young women that watch this to take something away away from it from your character specifically yeah that one that it's okay not to be okay like I love that it's okay to not be okay I love that and like we should not tide away from sh feeling shame or guilt and women should should support other women and I think for Maggie it's um for me it's that you know it's if yeah I I mean there's so many things I want to say you're speechless I I am speechless because she's just really incredible and I think what she's done for other women is like amazing the fact that she took her own like sort of her pain and kind of made it and fought for other women to to not be in in the position she's she was in and to be able to be that voice for other women is just it's just it's hard it's so hard like when we were doing the scenes it was you know we were in the courtroom and I was like Maggie actually went through this with all these eyes looking at her yes and they didn't believe her and the fact that she had to sit there alone and fight for what was like and relive the tra yeah and and she got up and she kept fighting she's such a fighter and that's what people will see in this show she's a fighter and she just like we keep in contact now she's just amazing she's like an amazing woman I think your role was so interesting how did you feel playing this role I think it's a little different than previous roles you've done throughout the years it is different I don't think I I mean I did Sex in the City as you mentioned but that I think what we did on Sex in the City back in the day I saw you on media's family reunion family reunion and then I saw you in Sex in the City when I was older wow playing grit ball yeah that's a grit ball that was my that's my I learned that at 13 I do if any man does me wrong I'm do that do that you got it um but yeah no it's just you know the idea of uh um doing something different that I hadn't really done you know um in in that this kind of relationship the expression of that kind of relationship the the openness of intimacy in that kind of relationship I really haven't done uh I had done before so you know those are the kind of things you consider if you're going to say yes or not and what made me say yes was the production team I mean I really felt protected and safe and that they knew what they wanted to do they had a strong vision and things they weren't going to show and weren't going to do you know these are questions that you have to ask when you're walk into something yeah so you play Sloan how was that cuz I think you absolutely killed it but I want to know what your experience was like uh very exhausting Sloan's exhausting Sloan's exhausting she's like you know Sloan works out so I have to work out yeah you know what I mean like Sloan eats well most of the time except when she relaxes so I have to eat well SL gets her nails done so I have to get my nails done she's very high maintenance she is very high maintenance it gave me so much respect who for women who show up every day like every day like fullon every day beat beatness every day yep oh my goodness what is a a message do you want women or audience in general to receive always permission always permission I love that you know um every single one of these characters uh it's a show it's a book about desire yes um but really it's every single one of them grow deeper and further and more authentically into themselves and whatever that self is I love that yeah so I have to say I feel like I've grown up with you cuz I've seen you since day one American life and you've you've grown up so beautifully in Industry I loved you in this character you obviously played Gia what was the process you had to take to get yourself ready for this role because I know your character goes through a lot I mean honestly no process at all because it's just one of the most truthful honest raw real portrayals of um a woman that I've ever been able to play uh I know myself in Gia I know my cousin in Gia I know my best friend in Gia my mom in Gia it's it was we all have a little G inside we all have a little of all of these women because we're complex nuanced creatur features that are constantly changing and it was such a gift to have such brilliant writing on the page to where my real job was to kind of close my eyes surrender to the moment and react to the world around me and that's when the beauty and Magic um happens for me when I you know in in the space of acting well that's a wrap we interviewed a lot of stars I'm about to go inside and watch the very first episode and you can watch it to September 13th on Stars wo
