REACTION: "Survivor 47" Cast Reveal

[Music] [Applause] [Music] hello hello hello everybody and welcome back to the great pop culture debate YouTube channel we're going to do our reaction video to the Survivor 47 cast reveal which came out today all the kids love the cast reveals they love the reaction videos and we're hip and we're with it here at the great pop culture debate I'm Eric resnek and I'm joined today by Bob erlenbach and Joelle boder we are longtime Survivor fans and um well we've watched all the season we watched them all we've watched them all um and we're going to get into it with our complete knee-jerk reactions literally these this cast has been out for less than 24 hours we've read their interviews we have very little to go on so 3 weeks from now when the season is on and all of us are made to look like boo boo the fool just remember that we have no idea what we're talking about we're just having a little fun here so with that being said we are going to jump into these de discussions not a debate we're not not a debate we're not debating today on this we don't have enough information to debate yet all right first up in our survivor 47 cast we have team teeny and I'm not even going to attempt to pronounce Tiny's last name I know that uh this is an well actually this is a video medium so maybe you can see that joelle's Chiron says team teeny so I think that Joelle probably has some thoughts on teeny do you want to talk to us sure I was very excited to see uh tiny if for nothing else uh their awesome sweater jacket thing looks fantastic and everyone knows how important it is to have a awesome sweater jacket thing on Survivor um I um I I I just I I I love their Vibe uh mentioning of the this is my Survivor bucket list it's always fun to have like a super fan coming into the game with with excitement and even if they get out early at least they hit all the check boxes on their bucket list like it's really it's super fun um I also learned in uh I watched both the Like official videos I I scanned the ew list and I watched Rob has a podcast and they reviewed everybody based on all the same information so somewhere in there uh it was mentioned that they are part of Survivor like the laring or whatever it's called and uh apparently they were very popular in Survivor Gettysburg oh so I don't know if uh our friend Michael knows anything about that but we could find out yeah I bet that Michael does so that's Michael Schwarz he's big in the live play games and so he may be a fan of teenis we'll find out soon Bob do you have thoughts on te yeah I mean teeny was instantly likable from their bio in the ew article that I read for sure their interview um but one of the things that I really loved about that interview was that they they have a pet peeve of when people are always late and that is very relatable content for this person sitting right here so I'm really excited to see Tiny uh I'll just add that uh I believe that tiny listed Elaine from a of Idols as one of her personal one of their personal Survivor Idols too many Idols there um but um Elaine is great and I'm so glad that ela's getting some and if plays anything like a lane I'm really excited to see how they do so no about Lane no one talks well of Idols nobody talks about period for good reasons but Elaine was awesome uh moving on to Rome Rome is from uh Phoenix Arizona and uh has not eaten the vegetable in two decades and is proud of that fact Bob do you want to talk about Rome I I don't have a lot of thoughts on Rome I'm really not sure what to make of them right now um one thing from the is that he says that he's going to play like Azie and while Azie is a legend I'm I'm still I'm cautiously optimistic about that for him so we'll see how that goes I'm not even cautiously optimistic I'm not optimistic at all about that I think that's I mean I'm all for Aiming High but I mean come on now that bio was just like um Joel do you have thoughts well first of all I'm very concerned about the vegetable thing because fiber is very important especially as you go into Survivor I speak on it well I abely please sponsor us pour it Pour it in his coconut water whatever you can do um I I was amused by the video of him because they asked him to like do like color commentary of an event that that wasn't even happening and he kind of you know plopped on that one um apparently his goal is to have Jeff's chub and I say no no I would rather have an AI Jeff before anyone replaces Jeff I I agree with that um uh and I like this was a legend in their own mind for me reading through the bio and I was just like I'm going to need you to calm down maybe they'll come in and be amazing but I was getting the Vibes I can't even remember the person's name which is a cautionary tale who came in a few seasons ago this Survivor Super Fan I'm going to make it all the way to the end and we're a pre merge boot That's The Vibes I'm getting off of Rome maybe Rome will surprise me but I was not particularly enamored of the uh initial bio next up we have Ana uh Bob any thoughts on ana um not a ton she identified with Sandra parvy and thinks she's going to play like Sarah so again cautiously optimistic um for her um I think those are some pretty big shoes to fill to call those people out in your bio so that's going to be interesting to see if she can live up to those words um I feel really I I I'm really eag eer and anxious to know her story um as it pertains to the Wildfire situation that she had so that'll be I think some some interesting and compelling television hopefully um to understand some of the the the tragedy that's happening in with these wildfires each year um due to you know climate crisis and such so yeah and I will say if you're looking at the slide and being like fun fact she lost all of her possessions no neither of the facts on this page are particularly fun but they are interesting uh well any thoughts on Ana uh not not too many um she seems adorable uh she talked about um talking about winning Survivor on dating app so like I guess she's just you know manifesting um she did mention that um in addition to parvy Boston Rob is another uh great Survivor she would like to you know I noticed a lot of like shout outs to real classic players in some of these bios some real old school survivors I saw a few from the new like new survivor some some folks calling some of them out but still by and large these people still idolize these these Classics there are new Legends yet like it's true uh Carson hello Caroline hello sorry sorry sorry sorry there are exactly two legends and Caroline hello anyway move on yeah I don't have a lot of feelings on anuka or Anika either way she seems lovely beautiful gowns uh so I'll see what she does to impress me next it's Taran AKA TK and I'm going to start with Joel what did you think of Taran or what do you think of Taran well first of all he's he's a local boy here in Maryland so I love I love to see it um uh I'm you know the fact that he like his fun fact is is kidney disease like that's that's harrowing and you know it's wonderful to see him up and running and and hopefully running around and winning or something I'm just I'm happy to see someone strong yeah Bob I like that that he identifies as like a Sci-Fi Nerd Gaming type of guy he is from PGC which is I'm in DC myself so not far from from Joelle but a local a local connection here for me as well but again I I looked at a lot of these bios and these these writeups again from that ew article um I'm of him identifying and loving Tony and Tony's not my jam when it comes to Survivor so Tony's another one that was mentioned more than once yeah Tony got mentioned most and we haven't gotten to them yet but gabler gets a lot of shout outs which I find very very interesting I don't know what that's all about but anyway um so those are my few thoughts on TK excited to see um a local person to see how far they can go and and hopefully they're a pretty compelling charact character they're a pretty compelling player for us to watch so isn't that what survivor and all these shows are characters it's tropes it's characters it is um I will say that TK uh definitely said to me in the bio that they're someone who comes from adversity and understands what it's like and that made me automatically kind of empathize with them so I I have high hopes for DK and I hope they do well y next up it's Tiana and uh to Tiana's from Hawaii I personally really enjoyed Tiana's bio a lot I I I instantly vibed with her bob did you have thoughts yeah she's one that called out gabler so I will reserve my judgment until I see them play so fair Joelle any other thoughts on Tiana um well one of the things I I love about her so she's a flight attendant and we will meet the other uh uh plane related person who actually has a flight school and Tiana mentioned wanting to become a pilot so I do think if nothing else maybe career moves will happen here on Survivor so I'm excited about that yeah I'm more concerned about final four moves than I am about career moves at this point but no no uh we'll see I I I liked a lot of what Tiana said in her bio the gabler thing was concerning I will never understand it don't try to make me understand it sorry Survivor subreddit I'm not here for it um but you know what um kudos to you go say the other thing that she was apparently an alternate for season 45 and and I was it season 45 where like everyone quit in the first week or whatever like there're all those like dropping like fers I can't remember if that was that was 45 I think 46 was afterward wasn't as bad as 45 but 45 was pathetic so so knowing that there's this girl hanging out on wherever they hang out I don't know if it's Ponderosa or somewhere else uh and not getting to actually be in the game while watching these people quit suck so I'm glad she's here yeah that must have been infuriating good point uh Rachel from Dexter Michigan uh Joel thoughts on Rachel uh I love a UI designer so super happy about her um uh her fun fact is not even a little bit interesting um I also wrote down she was a she was another alternate for last season so so they they got her in which is great um and she just seems really relatable is all I wrote in my notes Bob I I agree with that one I think her fun fact is interesting and one of the things she said in the bio was born and raised in Thailand but needed to come to America and adapt I think her her upbringing and her background with from that adaptation perspective could be very interesting and she should be hopefully very well suited to be able to play this game and and to be adaptable within this game so hopefully that's going to suit her well so I thought um I'm really excited to see more from from Rachel I think sorry I was reacting to the fact that but never spoke Tai that's not exactly interesting but yes living in Thailand is of course very cool and I have never done such a thing I clued into exactly what Bob was which is the adaptability I think that's one of the key things that makes a good Survivor player and I think it's going to give her a leg up here we'll see if she can then deploy that in a way that makes her uh a strategic player uh next up we have John love it and I know the one we're all here to talk about I was gonna say I know my my panelist should we leave it I don't know it's up to you Bob talk to me about John love it I he's John love it I think that he will he's very bright he's very smart he's very well spoken spoken spoken I'm worried that he's going to take up a lot of oxygen a little bit um but I think that he could be a really interesting and compelling player because he is a very bright person and very persuasive um I just hope it doesn't kind of just overpower everything else which I think he in in some of the experience and I'm trying to be respectful as I can I just think he justes overpowers things when he's involved um so that's that's that's my concern Joel um I someone said he is the something Larry David where what did it what do you remember did you guys see that I do remember seeing he compared himself to Larry David for sure yeah it's just lost in my notes now oh well um but yes he compar no okay yeah that was easy he's the gay Larry David is what what he was called or what he called himself he's gay did you know uh we won't even talk about the uh uh Ron and pharaoh of at all um but uh I I you know he is funny and I think in that situation having someone bring jokes like yeah I I would never never Dain to compare them to Mike White but having someone in that like sort of a celebrity but you don't quite recognize them because you never really see his face kind of thing um it it it could go in his favor if if he just keeps people amused and and uh you know wins people over with that sort of space as long as he shuts up sometimes I don't think even in the ew thing they're like will people recognize him like they did with Lisa welchel and Mike White and I was like no one recognized Lisa wel one person did pen did I think right yeah sure a couple people might recognize him I don't think he's going to get recognized I don't think he's at that level of like like recognizability maybe wrong his voice is familiar enough that like I remember when we were watching the um like the clip after the last season I did wasn't even looking at my screen but I heard his voice and I looked up and went so I don't know like if if anyone has listened to even a blip of positive America they they would recognize his voice I I do think this will be the main story of at least the beginning of the season and we'll see how he goes um next it's genev viiv uh from Canada I will say that I had of all of these cast members the least kind of feeling for genev I couldn't get anything from the bio Bob I had a note that I wish Phillip was here because he would probably mispronounce her name and that would be amazing television um and the other thing was that she relates to Eliza which could be amazing or could not be amazing at all so we'll see how that goes it's just a stick this is just a stick that's the line um oh relating to Eliza that is I missed that part that is uh that is a choice um as a Canadian no she's a lawyer yeah that's okay fair but she's not going to tell anyone because we saw what happened to all the lawyers that one season where they only talked about being lawyers but also didn't talk about being lawyers y um yeah that I don't know I like seeing a Canadian there aren't there aren't usually that many Canadians over the years of Survivor I'm not sure how many there have been but probably pretty few well they only started letting them in like five years ago since then there's been one per year every time okay they been letting them in no it's true that might sound terrible but it's true they won be been allowing a Canadian the border crossing only works so well so many ways it is what it is yeah I didn't find her particularly exciting besides the Canadian part so you know if there's an accent that comes out I love it great hair I'll say that all right next we have Gabe 26 from Baltimore who as his fun fact somehow has his own radio talk show at age 26 making me wonder what I've done with my life Joelle thoughts on Gabe uh well another local boy he's he's from Maryland uh he he apparently does all sorts of talk shows and things and he even helped run uh the recent Mayoral race I don't even know if he won it but um or the person he was helping but um no it's it's it's it's nice to see you know someone local again it's the probably the most Maryland players ever in the history of Survivor I would think um uh but yeah uh I don't know much about sports radio and he's a guess a Ravens um commentator too so yeah That's So Raven uh Bob what about you anything on Gabe I what he's a local for me as well um because I am in DC but he had the least interesting bio that I read out of that ew article he answered virtually none of the questions or just whiffed them like I don't know or who do you who do you most relate to uh nobody okay great story bro he had one line where he wants to be on the Mount Rushmore of like new survivors and I was like that's I think he said that in the promo Clips right yeah probably I think but already there's Carson and Carolyn I don't know that there's space for him yet but we'll see we'll see um I didn't get a ton it's actually good that both of these people are on the same slide because both of them I was just like ooh um I'm all for toting your own horn but these both had like leaning on their horns you know what I mean it was a prolonged honk and I'm just not sure I'm buying into the Press just yet so with that being said let's talk about Kyle um this was a lot the bio for me I only I only read the bio inw and I'm sure that Kyle has got clearly has been through some stuff I don't know what he's been through I don't know the journey but I was just like if this is going to be what it is is every time I'm going to get exhausted real quick uh Joelle any thoughts yeah I found him like just to be I don't I wouldn't even say I found him exhaus I just found him to be like kind of basic like his life is is small and he's happy about that and sounds like he yeah he maybe had a rough rough childhood but he's a father and a construction worker and he builds things so he'll be useful early on if nothing else if your biggest inspiration in your life is yourself I'm going to roll my eyes sorry I'm just going to do it Bob thoughts yeah I don't have much more to add to the to Kyle he does identify with Jesse which I don't see from his bio on how he's connecting with Jesse but um he also mentions JT who hasn't really kind of aged well in like milk he has JT's hair yeah and I don't mean like aged as in like his physical age I mean like aged in the canon in the okay okay yeah you said it not me um in the cannon of Survivor um I just don't have much to say we might as well just move on all right now that we've completely Savaged Kyle who will probably be a fan favorite and everyone will come and hate this again we have we have we have very little to go on and like it's I have one extra note on Kyle apparently he lived in a van and traveled for six years in said van with his wife so you know he's he's got outdoor skills he's got construction skills he's he's going to be useful I hope we'll see I can't wait I can't wait for him to interact with Sue because I feel like that's gonna be interesting they're in the same tribe oh good kesan uh Bob thoughts on kesan uh he's uh one of our two I think lgbtq representations we had John love it earlier as well as um kashan he's the ER doctor um I didn't have a lot I didn't take away a lot from his bi bio either um I know he ident i i i for some reason I really keyed into these people they were identifying with he identifies with Spencer or he feels a kinship to Spencer and his in the way that Spencer plays the game which I which I'm excited for if if he if he kind of lives that out because I really love Spencer as a player I thought he was pretty compelling in all the seasons that he was in I know maybe not everybody on this panel believes that but I know I love Spencer I'm trying to remember Spencer Spen yeah he he would yeah we won't get into that but anyway so I'll go I'll go and Google it it's uh Joel any thoughts on kesan um well I'm I'm my only my only note here is super gay and that's because he was adorable and he was very proud of it and he was proud to finally be coming out and uh his family's about to find out you know I guess they probably found out when the promo's com out um yeah I'm I'm looking forward to seeing you know if he's if he's you know personable fun to live with helpful in some way I don't know anything beyond that ER doctor can't hurt no ER doctor can't hurt and the snark about people who think of salt and pepper as a seasoning I was I love that love Savage coming in with the snark um Sam 24y old who is a sports reporter Joelle thoughts on Sam well I like this fun fact that apparently he dislikes it when people leave the sauna door open I same Sam this is this is not a relatable thing for me because I hate saas but noted I will never do that in his presence thank you or mine or yours um the one thing I sort of I noticed is um so early he said that when he was a child and he was watching Survivor as a kid he was so obsessed with Azie that when Ule won he and his brother were like inconsolable I guess and I was just sitting there going nope not interested in that I I loved you not a fan of Azie so that one was a that was a tough uh comment for me otherwise he's a sports guy it's really there's nothing for me to really root for at this present moment Bob yeah I read the special fun fact I raised my eyebrow and thought yeah I I get mad at that too for probably very different reasons than Sam Sam is getting mad at them I think he has a fiance so I don't think he's getting mad at them in the same re that I am I if that's I that's that's about as interesting as it is right now so I don't really have much more for Sam yeah uh Sports don't know where sports sports ball next it's Andy who is 31 from Buffalo God bless him um Bob thoughts on Andy yeah excited that he's kind of local because I'm you know originally from upstate New York myself um and you know excited that somebody from Buffalo is representing um and he's from currently from your city Eric everybody is right um the one thing that he talked about was identifying and and thinking like as a player that he's going to be most like Ule which I think is the tallest order out of all of these players to have thrown that out there so that is a very tall order for Andy so good luck Joelle that's a lot to live up to um uh there are a couple things I noticed in the video uh well I guess because he's from Buffalo that would explain it but uh he's clearly a Bill's fan because I saw the awesome uh pants um that I think his nephew cousin was wearing um I uh what did I write oh so I was watching um the Rob has a podcast review of the cast and one of the things that they notice is that he is such a super fan that they all know him already so he like calls into the show a lot and stuff so um I'm I'm wondering if he's going to be rather popular in the larger fandom as a result of that um otherwise he's he's he's researches AI so that makes his brain interesting I guess maybe it'll do you know smart uh smart decision- making maybe it won't I don't know yeah um I I thought he was very interesting based on his bio um hello Cat by the way this is TIG hi tiger um and I will say that um the Super Fan thing can be a double-edged sword because if you are like I'm a super fan I'm a super fan I find that often draws aggro on you because people are like oh they're going to be shifting they're going to try to be doing things doing the most right and I I if I was a super fan I'd never admit it at least not to my fellow castmates but maybe he doesn't we'll see let's talk about Sue who I think is one of the more compelling people in this tribe Bob what are your thoughts on Sue I'm excited for the age representation for somebody at that at that age so really kudos for for Sue she seems incredibly um energetic and out out for it like like really excited and and and very much ready to go and raring to go and a lot of energy and I I think that's really exciting for her I you know I was excited about those pieces I read through her bio and I I don't know what to I honestly don't know what to take away from the bio and understand like who she really is because I think it kind of fli kept flipping flopping on different kind of tropes or ideas of who she was and I don't have a clear picture of who she is just yet so I think gota wait gota wait to watch to get to to sue so Joel what are your thoughts I think the most telling thing I saw was that she refers to herself as the female Tony and um if that is the case hopefully there's some really fascinating weird silly but smart gameplay um if she brings spy Shacks back I'm here for it exactly like if the Antics are involved I'm in if it's if it's just because she just identifies with I don't know his sort of I don't know what to call the Tony of it all but I'm less interested so we'll see um but yeah the fact that she's a pilot um in this picture girls got guns I'm looking forward to like seeing how strong she is and you know showing off all showing off her skills and everything to the men so hopefully that'll be something there's so much I liked about her bio but there were also numerous things that she would say that raise my eyebrow about how her social game is going to be some red flags and so my sense is that if she was left in her own devices she's probably going to be a Powerhouse but I am afraid that she may piss people off pretty quickly because she seems like someone who got very intense personality so uh Sue is one to watch for sure I wrote in my notes Sue 2.0 and and I don't know if that's going to be wrong or not but the original Sue I feel like there's some DNA in common with with with both I can see that yeah uh Caroline uh Joel let's start with you uh well she's a water polo player so you know she's going to be useful in all the swimming uh water challenges um she's also MBA Finance not a bro finance lady um I I found her to be a little a little cooky I don't know if that's the right word I think she was one that was talking about like I can't believe how actually vibrant and bright it is here I thought you guys just put a filter on it's like okay that's that's cute I guess I I I didn't really know what to take from her quite yet Bob thoughts on Caroline um no really yeah yeah I didn't have a lot for Caroline I yeah I I love her fun fact I love that that that topic or what that she hosts competitions based on those those shows but I didn't have a ton for her I thought there were enough little details sprinkled into her bio that intrigued me that I think she could actually be a really good well-rounded player but obviously we'll have to see more Asia Bob thoughts on ASA yeah she was another one that to be honest as I worked through the article on ew like as I got to some of these later folks like I it it felt it felt a little kind of redundant for some of the things that they they were kind of saying and I just didn't connect for some of these folks later in the article I I apologized to them because they ended up later in the article so maybe that's that's why I'm not connecting with them but there wasn't a lot from Aisha that Asia or AA Asia they call her Asia Asia okay Asia um respect Asia um I just don't have a a ton I I'm excited about her her dogs the dog I want to hear about her dogs was adorable and frankly made me love her I actually vibed a lot with her her bio uh Joelle yeah so I actually learned a little bit more about her than I was expecting because I again watched that Rob has a podcast video so Asia Asia they call her uh is actually a host within the Rob has a podcast Universe she does love is blind uh Married at First Sight and Big Brother episodes within within that universe um one of the things that they were noting actually and this is kind of interesting is the number of broadcasters and podcasters within the you know all of the uh Castaways um it's about onethird uh between people that are reporters and commentators and podcasters yeah so that's interesting a lot of a lot of talkers um and one of the things I also liked is um she mentioned both she mentioned coutur Shan and MaryAnn as like her Inspirations and that's all new people like all all new generation which I like um and those are three players that I enjoyed at some point or another yeah I I liked a lot of what I saw from her the fact that uh she is involved in the Rob has a podcast universe is super interesting and I don't know if that works for her or against her but we'll see next it's our last two contestants so I'm going to start with Bob and Sierra did you have thoughts um fun fact she's a lot um she's a lot she's a Miss Delaware I believe is this the one y Miss Teen Delaware oh miss teen Delaware um yeah there was um is she the one that threatened to burn down the the camp too in the promo that might have been somebody different in the promo there was somebody who they weren't really threatening it it was a joke in the promo but like somebody yeah there was the promo Clips I'm talking about the promo clips from like the end of the last season promo Clips is what I'm referring to um but yeah she's there's a lot of there's a lot I can't wait to see how this plays out I get my my glasses out my roota spectacles and can't wait to see how this turns out Joel um I just wrote a hoot because that's that's what she called herself she said I'm a hoot um she's surgical nurse again a useful skill probably I don't know um I found her to be yeah um extra and we'll see we'll see these the her I will just say her Persona is generally not a type I enjoy watching well let me let me add this too right sorry Eric but like I don't want all these people to be the same anyway so please be a lot like bring me some entertainment to my screen let's see how this let's see how this plays out right like I just we need tomatoes Tomatoes boo right we need we need oh my God please somebody do a Tomatoes Tomatoes but but like I I want the variety and I want everybody's going to bring value in some way and and if they don't they'll be gone right and so um I'll be excited to see how these people interact with one another and I hope that you know she can can play the game and that her being a lot doesn't automatically disqualify her for everybody so yeah um uh I only read her bio in ew and with I'm reading just a piece of text that's about three paragraphs long and I'm like you're intense energy is making me feel bombarded that's that's a lot and um anyone who describes themselves as a hoot generally is the opposite of a hoot they are a holler um and so I don't know maybe she win me over but I'm not particularly uh excited about this one she's going to be I was just going to say she's going to be on the yellow tribe with John love it so that'll be an interesting combination too I don't know how that's GNA go oh good yeah um finally we have Solomon Saul uh Joel thoughts on all um his fun fact is one of the greatest fun facts I've seen on this entire list once lived with 2000's pop star Ryan Cabrera and the number of times Ryan Cabrera has come up as someone we maybe kind of remember from the 2000s recently is up It's upsetting to me I don't I don't really feel good about that but I want to know that entire story was was he involved in music like how how did this happen and was that in Norwalk Connecticut which by the way is down the road from where I grew up and uh that's not a very exciting place so hopefully it was somewhere not Norwalk Connecticut where that happened Bob thoughts on Saul everything was so great about this bio and I was really excited about this player and then he mentioned gabler I so I we'll see Solomon we'll see Saul you know the positive thing Better Call Saul what that sorry go ahead so no I interrupt you I'm sorry the uh the positive thing that I really liked that he was talking about was that he so medical device salesperson you always sort of like cringe at that but it's specifically for Parkinson's and that is something that is particularly meaningful in my life at least and so it was just it was that part was emotional and nice to to read about so um I liked his bio I thought it was very clear to the point he even got some dad joke energy into there which I appreciated I think he's the most attractive man on this cast pretty by a pretty wide mile to be honest um but uh no I'm excited about sa in fact he's he's one of the ones I'm I'm the most looking forward to so we'll see how he does with that being said those are our initial thoughts on the Survivor 47 cast we're going to be watching it here at the great pop culture debate we'll be chronicling it every week on our Recaps page what are your thoughts what do you think about the people who were on the cast do you have any favorites do you think
