Intro penbroke knows what it means to win par Olympic gold he's already done it in Tokyo and now he's hoping to win another gold medal in the Javin f-13 classification in Paris so as he finalizes his preparations for the games I've come to his home in herif to see how he makes a different type of [Music] goal Dan by day yeah you throw J yeah but by night or some weekends in summer yeah you make beer yeah and this one is a special beer in particular because uh this is the beer um that is going to hopefully celebrate the gold medals won by you know par Olympics GB and this is called Paris gold and uh yeah so is this the official Le like party beer for the paral Olympics not the officials The Unofficial I guess um but yeah me and a few of my um fellow athletes um are going to celebrate after the par Olympics by by drinking Paris gold tell me about Tokyo Gold Tokyo Gold was when I was just starting to starting to brew after Paralympics I got um involved with it and um I thought I'd have a beer that would commemorate their successes in Tokyo so I came up with Tokyo Gold [Music] How did you get there that gold was pretty awesome right yeah just tell me what it took for you to get there well um I'd literally just come back from traveling right in 2019 and found out that I could possibly um qualify to be a par Olympic Athlete um due to my eyesight um and I only had a very small amount of time to be able to train for it cuz it was going to be in 2020 and then obviously Co came along that gave me an extra year to be able to train and then I came out in 2021 and uh following a lot of injuries I threw 69 M yeah 6952 and uh that was the new paralympic record so yeah [Music] remarkable the Hops that I grow um are How does your eyesight affect your throwing these ones so we're going to add them now so decent amount going in literally just whacking a bag that's it how does your eyesight affect how you throw a javelin how's it changed there was one moment when I was in Dubai in a competition for the um a Grand Prix competition and um I actually came down to throw and as I threw I was actually outside the runway um which was like yeah man that's that's weird I've never done that before so it's sort of like learning how to compete again um not knowing EX exactly you have to have like full trust that you're running forwards basically and you're throwing in the right direction it could then very badly if you uh if you didn't throw it in the right [Music] way how far off do you think you are How far off are you from breaking your world record from breaking that world record how possible is it if everything goes well then I don't feel that you know it's not too far off to maybe you know get towards my previous personal W of 7 75 M um which would be amazing yeah what would that mean to you to throw further as a a par Olympic Athlete than you did back then yeah that would that would mean everything that would that's me reached the top that's that's what I want to achieve so this is pretty much done now wow good I need to take the uh take yeah so Dan the beer's done looks great What are your hopes and aims what about Paris what are the hopes and aims and what you're going to bring back well let's hope I can fulfill the the name of the deer right so Paris gold that's what we're going for um but for me I'm really hoping to get that world record so that that is the goal for me um gold medal absolutely um but yeah I'm just really excited to be there next to a next to a a country that's close to our own with all the people supporting me behind me well cheers to a gold medal hopefully that matches your beer absolutely best of look out there [Music]
