[Music] it's time for bringing the heat with Brian [Music] Nolan is up everyone Trey Lio here filling in for Brian Nolan on bring the heat with Brian Nolan obviously Brian was on happy hour last night so we did a little home at home even though technically I was on happy hour as well but uh as you all but I figured I would uh you know we we needed a relief pitcher yesterday so Michael Massie and I have decided to relieve Brian today so we'll have Massie join us in a matter of moments but first we have to bring someone Into The Inferno Inferno of course and that will be the regular season points champion Tyler reick Tyler reck driver of the number 45 for 2311 of course one of his major Partners is money lion so we want to thank money lion for helping us set up this interview and uh talked about that partnership talked about his his struggles in the car at Darlington what he had to deal with and of course uh talking about winning the regular season championship and his outlook for the playoffs so Tyler reck now goes into The Inferno now it's time for reic with a three car length Advantage now pulling away as he comes out of four Tyler reck is going to win again this time it's in Michigan hell yeah Tyler you are a man how about that for improving the Michigan stats to go into The Inferno with Brian right now Folks at this time going to bring into the program on behalf of money lion teaming up with 2311 and Kyler reic to drive back to school change with donation the one and only the regular season Champion Tyler reck joined the program first and foremost Tyler H how does that title sound has it sunk in yet and then just what's that what's that title sound like that's really really cool um a great accomplishment by by everyone that's part of air speed um and and and the rest of the team um part of 2311 so yeah it was um you know it came down to the wire for sure um at the end Darlington with all the things that played into it um just really really proud of the effort we put in um it it really goes to show that every Point matters um all year long and I mean that's what it came down to um for the driver's side of it uh one whole point now obviously the main broadcast was was describing how uncomfortable you were feeling you were under the weather now a few days after this how how is is the body has it recovered and then how are you feeling just in general yeah today is finally uh the first day where I've i' I felt good um it had been been quite a a long recovery getting better from what I was fighting so thankfully um you know today's Thursday we we fly out for Atlanta tomorrow so thankfully um on the last day that we're home I'm finally finally feeling feeling 100% And um we'll be ready to go for the weekend now I I I just want to talk about the Dynamics of just 2311 obviously you guys are celebrating a a historic regular season Championship but on the other side of of your building you got your teammate that doesn't make the playoffs just how tough is it to balance the emotion not just of yourself but of the entire organization the entire team of you winning the regular season Championship but your teammate missing the playoff allog together I mean it's it's tough um it's kind of how NASCAR can be in the nutshell how racing can be in a nutshell um you know with multiple entries there's multiple outcomes um every weekend and on the on the year end side of it as well so yeah it's just it's it's a bummer honestly when you look at it um certainly I mean the thing that that hurt the 23 team the most was was not getting to Victory Lane but when you look at the year as a whole I mean um my my performance for sure and and then also his as well is better now than than it was at this point a year ago so just tough um it's it's how it can be um with this format so um you know it wasn't like the team took a step backwards this year either team took a step backwards we both continue to improve fortunately for for bubin and his group you know just the winners that we had um from you know deeper in points winning it just it it put them in a in a tough spot and I don't know it just it seems like from from my vantage point man they've they've been there's been quite a few races that they've been better than we are they've just it seem seemingly every time man um something happens in their race or if there's if there's an accident it just seems like Bubba's right there in the middle of it um and that's just how racing can be sometimes so it's a bummer for sure but I think they got the right mindset they have 10 opportunities here to uh continue to improve and then reset and start over over sure Tyler reic driver the number 45 car joins the program here on behalf of money lion who they are teaming up with 2311 and Tyler to drive back to school change with donation we'll talk about that in just a little bit Tyler but um I'm 99% sure you don't remember this um but back at the awards banquet in Nashville last year you actually you act actually asked to sit with us during lunch the day of um it was announced unfortunately that they're not going back to Nashville that the awards banquet is in Charlotte are you a fan of that did you like hanging out in Nashville just is there a preference obviously I know that you guys live in the Charlotte area but it did feel a little uh more um popularity wise I should say in Nashville just any any thoughts on moving the banquet back to Charlotte yeah I don't know I'm kind of split on it you know we spent much of our year away from home um having to be here having to be there um you know I never got to go to New York City or or Las Vegas uh for the awards in those respective cities but um I've I've gotten to do it a few times on the xinity side uh in Charlotte and there's it's a good setup there it's a setup they know um it's one they know they can count on but certainly I mean being able to um you know have everybody there and and get a a few nights in Nashville to to celebrate um or just unwind or just not have any responsibilities other than some media here and there for a day or two is is really really nice when uh when we have it in Charlotte you know it'll it'll more or less kind of feel like I don't know work I guess so um yeah I'm not sure how I feel about it you know instead of being able to make a weekend of it but you know I'm sure a lot of us once we're done with the awards we'll probably just go home and get in our beds and get back to get back to the offseason so the vibe will certainly be different um but I don't know I think for some it's it's probably good and for others they probably will miss uh being in Nashville but it's not far away if if those of us that really want to go to Nashville you know it's only six hours from here couple more things here Tyler before we let you go obviously media day was yesterday in your your your team owner Denny Hamlin very vocal about just the negotiations and the charter agreement I'm not going to ask you about a charter agreement because I mean you're you're just a driver in itself Denny is is half uh owner half driver or should I say full owner full driver um but he did he did give a slight critique to NASCAR he he said that he was disappointed no one from Nascar was there to give you the regular season trophy did that even come across your mind no one from Nascar there were you disappointed uh just what what was what were your reactions to Denny's comments and then just that in itself yeah um yeah you know certainly you know as if whether you're a driver or you know a road crew member or you know a mechanic on the shop floor or have a have a job in the industry certainly those negotiations looming concern you right because you want it to um you know on our side we want it to to go in our favor um it takes a huge commitment um of our year of Our Lives to um compete at the highest level to give it our all and um you know it it it's tough um when you just don't know what the future holds where the agreements where the negotiations are going to go it is something that you kind of just have to put out of your mind uh week in and week out and just go race but um hopefully it all all works out but certainly you know I wouldn't say it's something I worry about nightly but betting on how that goes shapes what um you know our our futures look like as drivers what the futures of those that work in this sport um you know the the income that the teams are able to generate from this um we we rely solely solely on that for our livelihood don't don't get me wrong I I think most the cup drivers get by pretty pretty fine but you know when you think about um all the other people in the sport that put so much time and effort into it um you know I would just I would just want everybody to get their fair share um it it truly does take take a lot um of time and effort to to be a part of be a part of racing um so hopefully that works out on the other part of that question um I was so out of it I didn't really even think about it um you know I was just excited that ownership that uh you know I was able to have that moment with my team it took me a little bit to get over there and partake but um yeah you know I understand where Denny's coming from on that you know it's something that you know each each team in the garage strives for at the start of the year you never know how Year's going to go but you want to be you know everyone strives to be the best team in the garage and um that is one of the one of the goals in your season is to win the regular season championship but uh actually had the chance to speak with some folks from Nascar and um you know I I don't think they had any ill intentions um with with how it went down um I think in years years past they've done it one way and they just tried to do it a little bit differently but um yeah I was I was in no way um upset by it but I I could see where Denny's coming from you know as an owner having the rest a lot of the ownership there that night to to celebrate that moment um I could understand why they want uh someone from Nascar side on the executive level to be there so I think it's something they're going to correct and and have you know straightened out for the future regular season um moments but uh it's just it's a part of part of life it's part of racing right you live you learn make adjustments if they don't work uh you you readjust and go from there Tyler tell me what you and money line have teamed up with to the drive back to school change with donation obviously you guys it says that you guys donated $10,000 to an elementary school in Daytona please let our listeners know what you and money line have teamed up to do uh besides that yeah yeah um the 10,000 you mentioned was was donated to t t Elementary excuse me t t small Elementary School um in Daytona Beach uh we flew in on on Friday and went over there and and got to hang out with some kids tell them a little bit about racing um and then we got to surprise them at the end with with the donation that that uh that that money lion was was heavily involved with so it was it was a really cool moment to see how excited the kids were um the excitement of the teachers you know I think it's it's really really important to um give back and and help these help these schools and teachers out it it is a grind getting ready um whether you're a a parent or or or part of um you know the education system it's It's a Grind getting getting ready for school and making sure you have all the supplies and all things you need um so it's really cool to to be able to present them with that um I think it's it's really important and you know money Lion's money Lion's big deal is it's it's important to empower everyone to make their best financial decisions and I think it was uh especially a a cool Milestone moment to be able to um helped them with you know giving them some money in the back to school back to school season so um it was it was really cool to be a part of it uh money Lin's really been been focusing on trying to give back to teachers um they even did a teacher appreciation hotline not too long ago where they worded a teacher thousand bonus just a sign a show of appreciation if you will um you know these these teachers work hard to help our kids learn and grow um as they as they continue to grow up into teenagers and adults so just unsung heroes of our community that uh give give everything they can to help our young ones learn last but not least Tyler uh looks like the first round of the playoffs many drivers are saying is kind of like the Wild Card round you got Watkins Glenn with the tire Fallout or the tire wear we should say we don't know how much it is going to wear and then you have Bristol and then the unpredictability that it's coming up in Atlanta just uh do you agree with other drivers with that sentiment of it being the Wild Card round or or or is there a different round that you have to keep your eye on yeah honestly the first two can get pretty crazy if um if you have some bad days um you know I think you know the round of 12 poses its its threats as well two of those races you just can kind of be out of your hands pretty quickly and they can go sideways but I think with what we saw out of Bristol um earlier in the year what we've seen from Atlanta just in the past uh since it's been reconfigured uh with the higher banking um and then obviously what I saw from Watkins Glenn uh in the tire test it's just a lot of uncertainty at all three of these first races um so I think it's pretty fair to say it it's the one with the most potential to get pretty crazy you know from our side you know we're we're sitting third out of 16 drivers we have a lot of playoff points so we have a better buffer than than you know uh 13 other drivers that are in the field so um we're in decent shape from that aspect but certainly you know place like Atlanta can bite you really easy um if you know these these tires do what we expect them to do at Watkins Glenn um it's I I don't know what the allotment is going to look like but there could be a situation where if we need to use all the tires that we got for the entire race and someone hangs on to a set and puts them on late they could literally drive to the front and win the race um so and then obviously the the one that I think everyone wonders about too is Bristol just is is is Bristol going to play it like it did in the spring again are we going to see that crazy tire wear that we saw in the spring if so that's another one where again you could have a very smooth race all the way through um you just you're never going to know um until it's over if you know you just never know when your tires could could wear out on you um you just got to be really mindful of that all night long once again the playoffs start in Atlanta it's going to be wild and Tyler reick is going to try and make it two for two in the Championships this year he won the regular season one can he win the postseason one stay tuned for that Tyler thank you so much for coming on the program we wish you the best of luck and we'll talk with you down the road my friend all right thank you guys so much want to thank so much uh the folks at money liion and Tyler reic in 2311 Racing for helping us set up that interview uh Brian did a really good job with that talking with Tyler but we also want to thank Tyler for taking some time out of his week to talk to us last week well it is now time to bring in Michael Massie with what what's still hot what's still hot it's time to upgrade you on the latest news in [Music] NASCAR mcore Massie 22 is where you can follow him on the Twitter Michael Massie from front stretch.com he is the content director there he's also my co-host in the Happy Hour podcast so as I mentioned earlier we're doing a little home home we had Brian on happy hour he needed some relief pitching so uh we decided to F we need relief pitching yesterday and now we're relief pitching him today uh Massie good to talk to you let's just dive right into it Kyle Larson in a least shocking news we sort of touched on it in for a second on happy hour but uh it was announced yesterday or two days ago I should say um that McLaren and Hendrick hendrickcars.com and Hendrick Motorsports are all partnering together for him to do the double again your overall reaction to that and uh what do what do you think well hey Trey uh I first off I want to say that Brian needs way more relief pitching than we do we we just need like a closer or something he needs like the whole eight and twoth thirds Innings after he gets the one first one third in but I digress Kyle lson was anybody surprised by this news after he won the Brickyard for 100 he said said to the crowd I'll be back in May and then then he kind of backpedal a little bit but uh yeah it was always a two-year deal and I mean I think there was like an option part of it but uh especially with the way it went down this year I think he really wanted to complete it to actually do the double is this year he only did the nd500 he didn't do the K 600 he didn't do a single lap of it uh so hopefully the weather cooperates and he will actually get to do the double and now that he has some experience under his belt he could win them both it's a very you know it's not a zero% possibility I'll say that I mean he did I know he had to get off fuel strategy because of was Pit Road penalty but he technically did lead laps in the Indianapolis 500 and that is a a really big feat and I agree with you I think he is I thought he had a real shot to win it last time I mean he qualified fifth like he he did show the speed he improved each week I mean he won the Rookie of the Year um which some people say maybe didn't deserve because he didn't he wasn't the highest finishing rookie but considering where he started and what he did I I think it was it was well deserved other big news in NASCAR uh if you want to hear more about the charter discussion we talked about that and we uh we talked about that during happy hour a lot so uh I did want to you know mention that for a moment but uh other big news in NASCAR is goodye is uh allegedly bringing a tire that during the tire test showed three seconds of fall off at Watkins Glenn this weekend so two two-part question Michael Massie one do you believe them or what meaning like do you believe this tire can do this and two if it does happen what type of racing do you think we'll see at Watkins glint uh I believe that in that test it fell off 3 seconds but here's the thing there were only what three cars on the track once you get 36 or however many or racing this weekend on there all at the same time will the track rubber up will that how will that affect the tire wear uh we we'll need to see how that all plays out maybe it'll be less wear after that happens but either way that does sound like progress um I think that if it does fall off three seconds then you know hopefully it's like there's levels of the fall off it's not just like bam 3 second fall but like that way people can manage their tires and at the end of The Run you'll see somebody to save their stuff come rolling up to the front that would be really cool to see that you know real course racing used to be that way and then we got to these concrete tires uh where everybody ran the same lap nobody like last year's Watkins Glenn race was probably the worst Watkins Glenn race I've ever seen like not even I'm not even trying to over exaggerate on that uh but yeah hopefully we'll see some comers and goers because of that also the the other thing is that there were several spins uh in that test session so it sounds like it might be kind of hard to drive after a few laps with this tire we if people are spinning by themselves what are they going to do when it's a whole pack of them going down into turn one uh there Watkins Glen or or the bus stop or anything like that so yeah I'm definitely more excited than I have been in past for this race yeah I I am too I think if this is true which since it it's not like they've never tested they're they're not saying this on an untested Tire they they they're saying it because they did a tire test I think this could be a a really really cool thing and I think that it probably plays into the veterans SS like a Denny Hamlin a brad kazlowski uh a martinrex Jr because they have experience kind of racing this track that kind of way um there's also you think about what the the upgrades or the changes they made to the bus stop making it way more difficult I think this is a very very interesting Watkins Glenn race um that honestly this is the type of road course race I'd rather have have in the playoff than the roal that's a bigger picture issue we can talk about later but I think if this comes to fruition which I'm like 85% sure that it will I there like 15% of me where it's like good years promise this and it hasn't happened so it's I do have some doubts but if it does happen I'll feel uh pretty good about it anything else you want to add mie yeah just stuff like the north WSB Tire this year and stuff had you we have some past Trauma from incident like that are the only reasons we have any doubts we as the two two of the three people that were at Bristol were also like oh maybe this can happen so yeah that is stuff like Bristol and Richmond as well I say the the fall Richmond where they had different tires um gives give some hope for it need to send us two to every race and then you'll have Tire full off exactly Good Year we just pay for our our travel and all that stuff give us a little side cash I'm I'm cool with it I'll talk I'll say nothing but good stuff about Good Year that happens first time in your life uh but uh someone who maybe had the most pressure going into the weekend was Alex Bowman he produces a top five he is our subject for the sound bite of the week well Tony what angered you at the end of the race what did you take issue with what the hell do you think I was mad about DB little runs us clear down to the infield he wants to about everybody else and he's the one that drives like a little I'm going to bust his ass thanks Tony thank you and your track races it's time for the sound bites of the week here's Alex Bowman top five finish on the day you know you had Jeff Gord comes in congratulate you uh you had squash rumors early in the week how does a finish like this help squash them even more uh I mean I it's more about just trying to make a a deep playoff run than anything so um yeah just I'm honestly mad at myself for making some bad mov moves there um with like seven to go or whatever um restarting 13th there two restarts from then just um kind of took us away from being able to fight for the win which I felt like we had a car capable of so um obviously a really good point stay and a a great day for our Ally Chevy but uh certainly want a whole lot more than that first off that framing perfectly encap letes like super speedway racing now you have the guy who finished in the top five had a good day and in the background is a wck race car like getting attended to um but obviously there is this rumor this past week that Alex Bowen was getting replaced by Justin Justin Haley in the 48 uh depending on his playoff outcome and while Hendrick Motorsports and Alex Bowman have come out to essentially squash that rumor that Alex Bowman will be The Driver of the 48 in the future uh both he said it both a rick hendri and Jeff Gordon it said I mean there was that little moment where in that we played where Jeff Gordon goes top five top five and I think that that was a big key but getting that type of result after the week that Alex Bowman had how big was it oh I I think he did exactly what he needed to do because the rumor all along at least my understanding is that it's him getting replaced if he doesn't have a deep playoff run or doesn't win some races you you make a splash in the playoffs so what does him going out there and get a top five do it furthers his effort it puts him in a good points position uh so now he can keep doing what he has to do and that's honestly that's how everyone's ride should be like it should be dependent upon your results what have you done for me lately uh so look I know there's a lot of stuff that's come out this like oh that's fake fake rumors and all that but there's a lot of smoke there there's a lot of people that you know asked him about it and heard rumors and um I know Brett Griffin said on D bumper clear he's like um if if I was spreading spreading false stuff I'd have a phone call from uh you know Rick hendrik Jeff Gordon or Alex Bowman or you know he named a couple people and he's like none of them called me and and he also said that he's like does hendrik Motorsports have more drivers under contract than they have cars and he said yeah so that tells me that Justin Haley might I'm just saying might allegedly we throw that allegedly word in there you had to do this now for the last two podcasts he might be under contract with hendrik and in a Spire car next year which Spire has a really good relationship with Hendrick they used to pick Crews you know they've had a close relationship for the past couple of years yeah so that's that's just a theory just running off what Brett Griffin said I'm not saying that's news I'm not saying that's official but there is a possibility that that could be a case um but yeah so I don't know Ed Bowman definitely seems like he has people breathing down his shoulder lot of pressure on yes he's got a lot of pressure but you know just keep doing what he's doing and I think he has nothing to worry about all right I'm put some pressure on you Michael mie the 20125 Daytona 500 who's in the 48 and who's in the seven because I bet you those are the two cars that we're talking about I I think Alex Bowman will be in the 48 uh because I I think he'll have a good playoff run and Justin haly's in the seven and I think Justin Haley would be in the seven that's yeah there we go I know Justin Haley's got a contract with Rick wear but lots of people in sports have contract another Rick yeah yeah another RI but yeah so that's where I that's where I would go all right well let's wrap this up with the uh Checkered Flag it's going to be a drag race all the way back to the start Finish Line no caution they're side by side right to the line big crash here they come checker flag the flag is out and it's time for the final thoughts final thoughts anything you want to rant Rave or review about Michael Massie the floor is yours so my biggest the thing that kind of irks me right now I guess grind your gears grinds my gears there you go uh you know you think it might be something about the charters or something about I don't know Joey Lano thing I went off on that last night already so we've already got that he listen happy hour to hear that rant um but no the Cory Hind and I'm not talking about he did the right thing in in the end of the race he went for the win we ain't go to talk any more about that uh but my problem is he's Toyota's top prospect right like who in the Toyota Camp I mean you could argue for Chandler Smith Maybe but there's very few people in that Toyota Camp I would put higher than Cory hin the problem is how's he gonna get the cup the the best Toyota team Jo is racing I we won't get into why but has not put him in an Infinity car for even one start so like there there's no route for him there well we'll just leave it at that there's no Avenue for him to get to a Gibs car 2311 we don't even know if they'll be out there next year but there's a lot of unknowns with 2311 right now so I don't know how that Avenue would work for him which maybe that's still a possibility Legacy motor club they need they got two good drivers they need to worry about getting their cars better before they add a third car for him so it's like Cory Heim is is deserving to move up at least to xinity and maybe he could go full-time with Sam Hunt I don't know that that would be a good ride but it just feels like there's no Avenue for him to the cup series and that concerns me in a Toyota yeah at Toyota yeah maybe he could jump ship I mean Jesse love had to jump ship to to find a better path so may maybe yeah Ford or Chevy could swipe him away we we'll have to see that yeah it concerns me that there's no path for him at Toyota right now so the expend series is racing the next two weeks but it's still the regular season I just want to point out I I don't get why NASCAR for these past couple of and you have this long gap for the truck series I believe they don't come back till Kansas if I'm not mistaken um looking up their schedule yes oh so they they come back for Bristol which is uh next week yeah but they're already what they're erasing into their playoffs so three weeks off yes and I know it's a different amount of races to the end of the year but I don't get why NASCAR doesn't want to line up their playoffs more evenly and even if you want to make Daytona like like make the cut off race for cinity and cup Daytona and then you figure out the right like and then they have 10 you know you have 10 playoff races in both series the end of the year and then the truck series maybe you you do you know IRP they did Milwaukee that weekend that's and that can be the cut off race for the truck series like it just makes no sense if you're a fan of all three and you're trying to follow the playoff formats it's so hard to follow what is what like we're still in the regular season in the cup series or in the xinity series I should say well that's confusing compared to you know when your Premier series is still in the playoffs like either have it so that the Cup playoffs is the last one to start or have them all start together because this is this is too confusing for a regular fan if you want to follow all three series and uh I think if you prioritize the back half of the season with more races that's going to be better I know you don't want to compete against football but typically you look at the contract you're getting with the CW if you're the Infinity Series well you're going to have football is a lead in on Saturdays that's going to be a really good thing if you look you know same thing can be with fox in FS1 who's you know with their big 12 deal is going to have lead ends with college football like that's going to help you and if you make those playoff races like that's going to be very key there as well well that will do it for this episode of bringing the heat with Brian Nolan Michael massie's writing fire on Fridays this week um he's going to be probably ranting more so just a a week full of rants for Michael
