Extreme heat coming to San Diego County starting today. We'll be talking about where our record breaking temperatures could be found and what to expect into the upcoming weekend. And by the grace of God, we're very grateful that he's going home today. We have an update on an officer hurt in a fiery crash. The owner hasn't given me back my money and the builder took my home. Big complaints about a tiny home company. You're watching CBS Eight mornings and Sex Summer is not over yet. Get ready for a heat wave. Thanks for joining us at 6 a.m. everyone. I'm Eric Connor and I'm Caroline in Fornet Ron for we have team coverage. Chris Grow is live outside of SDGD headquarters with how you can avoid your energy bill from going up. But first meteorologist, Evan Ronney has a look at this hot forecast here, Evan. Yeah, today is the day where that heat is really going to kick in a high gear today through Friday. Our hottest days across San Diego County and even into the weekend, Saturday and Sunday temperatures barely slide. We're talking still widespread nineties in the forecast inland this afternoon. Our mountains could make it to the triple digits. And for the desert's 1, 12 coastal temperatures will remain the coolest place in the county to be but still coastline. It's going to be in the low eighties this afternoon. There are some models that push downtown San Diego to the upper eighties by the time we get into tomorrow and Friday afternoon hours. So when we talk about where we see the hottest of temperatures, it does still seem like tomorrow and Friday are the particularly hot ones. Some models keep Saturday right at that same heat level, which means we could see the heat alerts that are set to expire on Friday extended through the upcoming weekend and that seems rather likely considering what the next several days look like with the intense heat coming our way. There are some steps that you can take to avoid your energy bill from going up. CBS Eight's Chris Row is live outside of SDG and E headquarters with more on what people can do to save money. Chris, this is the time that a lot of people are cranking up that ac but might want to think twice. Right. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, look what you're gonna want to do is you're gonna want to make sure that you're not spiking it at a very low temperature then setting it all the way down, you can run your AC and run it all day and still save money. In fact, that's one of the biggest tips that we have for you right now, according to SDG. And they say that if you just simply set your thermostat to 78 degrees and leave it there all day or maybe even have it go up a degree or two higher when you're not home, that that is going to save you a lot more money than if you simply turn off your ac when you're not home and then turn it back on when you do get home. Because a lot of people are getting home around four or 560 and that during peak hours and it takes a lot more energy to re cool a home that has gotten upwards of 80 83 84 degrees because it is so hot outside. So that's one of those big tips. The other things that you can do limit your appliance use if you're a big cooker, especially here during the weekdays. Well, try to use a slow cooker, an air fryer, a microwave or grill instead of those ovens to help save energy and keep the cooler. Also try to use dishwashers and laundry machines outside of peak hours from that 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. That is when it is more expensive ceiling and portable fans can help too. Just make sure that you turn them off when leaving the room, it's going to be hot. People are going to want to try to stay cool and SCG and knows that this means people are going to have larger bills. They are also communicating that they are willing to work with customers. Take a listen to what they had to say, especially during high heat. There are times when customers are struggling to pay their bill and we don't want customers to feel that stress. We want those customers to stay in communication with us. If they're struggling, we've not met a customer that we've not been able to help when they brought it to our attention that they were struggling now for more tips on how to stay cool at an efficient rate. Because again, we do want people to stay cool. We want them to use their AC. Just go to CBS eight.com and click on the story link. All right, Chris. All great advice there for sure. This morning, the National Weather Service is urging you to be careful while you're outside during this heat wave. So remember, drink more water than you think you need. Wear a hat and sunscreen exercise during the early morning or evening hours with frequent breaks, avoid drinking alcohol and caffeine and wear lightweight light colored and loose clothing. Now, for your pets, keep them indoors or provide plenty of shade and water and never I repeat, never leave those pets or kids unattended in a car. And if you are headed outside here are the symptoms of heat illness that you should look out for. Heat exhaustion comes first it involves dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating and nausea. Heat stroke leads to confusion, then unconsciousness. Someone with heat stroke will have hot and dry skin. The key is to recognize signs of trouble early. Either way if you or someone else starts experiencing these symptoms, you are urged to call 911 immediately move them to a cool place and cool their skin with water, only have them drink water if they are showing heat exhaustion symptoms. And the county has dozens of cool zone locations that offer free air conditioning. They include libraries and community centers. We have a full list of all the locations at CBS eight.com. Just click on the help button for the latest weather conditions and alerts on the go. You can download our free CBS Eight app from Google Play or the Apple App Store. Ok. Now two other local headlines this morning, police are trying to figure out what led to a shooting at an apartment complex in La Jolla. It happened just after 130 this morning at Renaissance La Jolla off Toscana Way. Senel police tell us they received reports of gunshots coming from the pool area. As you can see some bullets struck a window of a unit. Thankfully, no one was hurt again. It's not clear what led up to the shooting or if any arrests have been made this morning. The San Diego police officer critically injured in last week's fiery crash in Claremont Mesa is recovering at home, Zachary Martinez was released from the hospital yesterday. You see him in the wheelchair there, the red shirt uh bandages all over his body but uh it was great to see him uh high fiving and hugging some of the officers there. Greeting him. Doctors say he suffered a broken neck burns and facial injuries from this crash. You see on your screen, his partner Austin Matar sadly was killed in this crash. The police chief says it's a miracle Martinez survived but adds, he still has a long road to recovery times like this that, that bring people together. And if there is a silver lining when we have tragedies like this, it's the way that we do come together. You see him there. Uh kind of fist bumping saying hi to those officers that were there. Uh giving him hugs. Good to see that a fundraiser was held at the moonshine beach music venue and bar last night, 100% of sales going to the officers families this morning, the search continues for a missing camp Pendleton marine. After a reported sighting a marine spoke with Bailey Cameron on base Saturday night. But when Bailey learned police were coming, he ran away. He first went missing on August 25th. After leaving the coyote bar in Carlsbad, his belongings were found nearby. Camp Pendleton tells us there haven't been any new sightings of Bailey. This morning. National City is moving forward with a homeless encampment ban the city council held its first vote yesterday. They will vote to adopt the ordinance during a second reading on September 17th. It would ban encampments on public property if shelter beds are available now, it would be in effect at all times near schools, waterways and transit stations. The sending a rescue mission recently opened a shelter in National City called the South County Lighthouse Boy. Uh, you were gonna feel the heat when you step outside here today and it's not like it's gonna be going any, going away anytime soon. No, I mean, we talk about our days of peak heat being today through Friday, but even Saturday and Sunday temperatures are gonna slide by a few degrees when we're talking a difference of 100 and three on Friday afternoon and then 99 on Saturday afternoon. I mean, it's a cool down but it's still not by much at all. So, yeah, the coast is gonna be the popular place to be because it will still be the coolest in the county. But even the coastline will be under a heat advisory for Thursday and Friday afternoon. Still nonetheless, jump in the water. Enjoy it. The more mild conditions out there. That's going to be a nice place to be in a very popular one as well right now out the door, sixties, 62 for P 65 in Escondido, 67 in Encinitas and Del Mar and 70 in downtown San Diego. Want to mention that as we head through the morning hours, we have a little bit of fog out there. So we are watching for reduced visibility in areas like Carlsbad. Down through Kearny Mesa at half a mile of visibility, oceans sides at five miles, you head to San Diego eight miles and then down at brown field, we're at less than half a mile. So those low clouds are impacting us, but the marine layer isn't necessarily in full force, meaning it's not spreading all the way to our inland valleys. It's mainly confined to the coastline west of the 15 west of the 805 and then over the next several hours, instead of lingering with overcast skies, we will likely see that sun come out very quickly as these low clouds burn off. Let's talk about your highs for the afternoon and Santi in El Cajon 95 whatever you see on the screen for today is not our hottest tomorrow and Friday are the two hottest days that we have moving forward. So 91 for Lamesa, you can add about five degrees on to what you see here and that's what you can expect into tomorrow. 82 for Coronado in downtown 73 in La Jolla. Much more mild 80 for Carlsbad, 90 six for Escondido, 94 for P and 102 degrees in Ramona. The mountains and deserts also staying rather hot alpine. 9889 for Mount Laguna and 111 for Brago Springs and ACA Wells. Let's take a look at traffic weather impact right now is mainly the roads, uh, in terms of fog. So that's the road weather index that you see that yellow color right around the Del Mar area also down toward the international border. Uh That's where we have some dense fog this morning. We had a couple of crash earlier about a half hour ago. Those have been cleared. Now, it looks like, uh we are smooth sailing on most of our major freeways this morning. Let's look, a board of wait times briefly. 100 and 25 minute wait at the San Yo port of entry. O time. A support of entry is gonna take you about 80 minutes. These are quicker speeds than yesterday but still uh quite a slow down at the San Eido port. That's gonna be a over two hour wait there. Uh, earlier this week Monday was about the quickest Tuesday was very, very slow and now Wednesday just kind of this in between range.
