an evacuation warning is in effect for 140 homes in Rancho palis Beres because of increased land movement Southern California Edison is cutting off power for those Homes at noon today palis far's Mayor John krook shank tells laas that the sewer service will also be shut down after the power is out you you just can't live in a house where you can't you know flush your toilets or take a shower where the water is literally going nowhere like there there won't be a sewer system the announcement came a month after gas service was shut off for families in the same area due to increased land movements Leanne twidwell cares for her 88-year-old husband who is blind and has Advance Parkinson's disease it can't get much worse than this um we're going to have to move and I don't really don't know how we're going to handle it I don't know how my husband's going to handle it the power shut off notice resulted in an evacuation warning younger asian-americans are more likely to report experiencing anti-asian discrimination than their parents and grandparents that's according to a survey conducted in Metropolitan La June Lim of asian-americans advancing Justice soal worked on the study she says younger asian-americans may have a broader definition of discrimination that includes verbal harassment and microaggressions like the first generation don't necessarily think about that as an act of anti-asian hate whereas many younger respondents came of age during the surge in anti-asian incidents during the pandemic and limb said may have a greater awareness about the issue the study also found younger asian-americans report lower rates of seeking help Lim says Asian-American organizations tend to focus on those who are immigrants and monolingual what can Community organizations do to stay connected with these later generations of asian-americans and also like how do we continue to outreach to them these groups can provide everything from legal aid to mental health counseling Metro is expanding its tap to exit program to one more station on the e-line in downtown Santa Monica this comes after a pilot program that checked fairs as you exit the North Skid Row opening next year the plan is to provide Mobile Medical Care 3 2 1 the plan is to provide Mobile Medical Care to as many as 85,000 unhoused people the State Assembly is wrapping up this year's legislative session and one of the bills awaiting the governor's approval would make it easy year to build tiny homes for the unhoused including in LA but Cal matters Marissa Kendall says while traditional shelters are exempt from red tape that can slow down construction other options or not this bill would essentially give that same exemption to tiny homes so potentially it could make it a lot easier to get them approved more quickly the state has committed to building hundreds of tiny homes for the unhoused though progress has been slower than expected another slate of bills aims to give undocumented immigrants access to more state aid one would let them qualify for firsttime home buying grants while the other would explore letting them apply for unemployment funds Governor Newsome will decide whether to sign the bills by the end of September some of the legislator's bills this session are a little more symbolic a slate of bills would name three new state animals the black Abalone would become the official state seashell while the dous crab would be the state crustation and the banana slug would become the state slug long makers hope that this lets more people know about these species especially the black Abalone which is endangered the US Navy and state parks struck a deal to renew the lease for the famous Santa no State Beach just before it was set to
