Philadelphia's YouTube channel let me just start off with this this is we do three big things every single show this is the grand champion of all the three big things so just push that aside for a second can we please stop and I know people have tweeted me this over the last couple of days this goes back to London this is about London the Philly shouldn't have played in London and they're like blaming travel accommodations and travel in general for the Phillies going on this skid that doesn't make any damn sense the Mets somehow have turned their season around since the London trip so for them to be better and the Phillies to be worse and to blame London doesn't make any damn sense all right that's number one number two on this for the people that have tweeted me and talked about London uh it goes far beyond London May 23d we've talked about this May 23rd the Phillies won six in a row I think they just uh took three of four for the Nationals and then they beat somebody else I forget it was three game it was the Rangers swept the rangers they won six games in a row May 23rd they started a three game series in Colorado against the Rockies followed by three game series in San Francisco against the Giants the Phillies since May 23rd are two games over 500 since May 23d they are two games over 500 so no it's not London and no it is not some blip on the radar that oh my all of a sudden the Phillies have been playing bad no this has been going on for a while now has it been this bad for a while in terms of what winning three games of their last uh 12 not necessarily but it's been pretty bad have they lost four consecutive series to this point in the season no it hasn't been this bad but I'm talking about going all the way back to May 26 you TI May 24th you time it to that and this Phillies team in total is two games over 500 not great not great not excellent baseball they haven't won more than four games in a row since they as part of their sweep of the the Brewers which by the way checks notes going back to that Series against the Brewers you got to look at June 3rd through the 8th and they've had they haven't won four in a row since then they swept Milwaukee and then they won the first game against the Mets in London now since that London series they're actually under 500 by a game but them playing Elite best team in baseball kind of play it's been since May May 24th so it's been a it's been a little bit longer than London now since the All-Star break and this is where we'll get into three big things okay here number one all right Zack Wheeler went out there against the Baltimore Orioles and sucked not great possible World Series match up that is if the Phillies make it to a World Series okay I know I said pretty confidently yesterday like I still think this team not so much now then I look at this team facing the New York Yankees and you have an opportunity here against another struggling team granted as I pointed out yesterday the Philly the Yankees unlike the Phillies were actually able to get a series win their first oneor in a while good good good job Yankees so now the Phillies are trying to get that Series win under their belt and try to get off the schneide as well so you have Zack Wheeler going on the hill your best available pitcher right now by far I I love Tyler Phillips and all but in terms of proven track record Zack Wheeler so Zack Wheeler gets the ball tonight and he get shelled shelled I was laugh uh Aaron judge hit the home run in the first inning off of Um Zack Wheeler and he hit a bomb of a shot I was shocked I think it was only went down at 46 feet 406 feet on a hanging slider I thought that was going to go into the upper deck it did not in left field right uh but he blasted it and that was the first home of the game was the first run of the game one- nothing in favor of the Yankees then in the second inning he gets St in the ground out to second base then Jazz Chisum of all people he hit a first pitch fast ball 348 ft barely over the wall in left field two nothing game and then rice steps up to the plate hits a 407t home run off the facing of the second deck I believe it was in right field or just in front of it all of a sudden it's three nothing three home runs three solo home runs giving up by Zack Wheeler if Bryce Harper isn't gonna hit if Trey Turner isn't gonna hit if JT real Muto is still struggling to find his way back and find his rhythm since coming back from the injury um you need lights out pitch lights out pitching and one of the guys I have a lot of confidence in going out there and actually providing that lights out pitching to you or for you is Zack Wheeler against the Orioles shellacked for eight runs against the Yankees seven runs seven hits three solo home runs and checks over here uh 103 pitches in five innings of work not great less than ideal so you mean to tell me that this Phillies team is all of a sudden going to find that group Pro hey look I we've watched this team enough and the confidence I have of still them winning the division and the confidence I have of still them making the playoffs obviously let's not get crazy I know that things like this happen but when you haven't played Elite baseball since May yeah that's concerning yeah that's not just some blip on the radar or let this stuff happen yeah for this long hey put it you like this I did go back cuz I know in the broadcast tonight they were talking about the uh 01 Seattle Mariners at that won 116 games and you know good for them um their longest losing streak was four in a row and the Phillies haven't lost four in a row yet this season so hey at least they haven't done that but Zack Wheeler I was really hoping we' get the Phillies started off on the right foot today and I was also hoping the lineup other than Brandon Marsh of all people would help you uh find that Groove as well it didn't happen quite the opposite it's another day where again we look at the meat of the order and this brings me after Zack Wheeler to number two on three big things this brings me to the middle of that lineup because again you struggle in this particular one Kyle schwarber able to walk work three walks all right you get on base good job by you Trey Turner 0 for four Trey Turner in the first inning let me set the scene Trey Turner in the first inning of this this game tonight this was Bonkers I couldn't believe he took for a guy that is normally very aggressive not as aggressive as like a Nick casianos normally even Alec bone but a guy that isn't afraid to swing early in a count Kyle schwarber worked a leadoff walk in the first inning the first walk of the three okay Trey Turner steps up he walked for the second second plate appearance of the game he took a 10 cookie cookie Cy inner half of the plate a ball that we have seen Trey Turner whip the barrel of the bat around and just send that ball on a journey that which it will tell Tales to Future generations and Trey Turner takes this pitch on the inner half of the plate it was the type of pitch that would a left heels hand I went gone like it was it just looked like it was G like it was right there and he took it I don't know if he caught him off guard I don't know what happened but he took the pitch he ended up working the walks so still not not the biggest thing in the world but I just thought it was interesting that that's a pitch he puts over the wall by a mile he didn't do it in this case instead uh Trey Turner Works uh no I'm sorry Trey Turner then grounded into the 643 double play it was schwarber worked the walk Turner went up there and he grounded a 643 Double Play Harper goes up there he flies out to center field that's it Bing Bang Boom still down one nothing we all know what happened in the second in I already told you with the two solo home runs for three nothing and then the Phillies really couldn't get anything going another opportunity in the third inning for this offense to do something lead off singles from Nick castios and Bryson stot to lead off the top or excuse me bottom half of the third inning Hayes then struck out on a slider away schwarber worked a second walk of the game Bas is loaded one out Trey Turner squeezes out one run on a what should have been an in ending double play but they for whatever reason hesitated at second base run crosses the play straight Turner reaches first Harper goes up there with two Runners on he flies out to left field Brandon Mar Saves the Day by actually uh getting you uh the long ball there with a 49 foot home run to the second deck in right field makes it a 3-2 game fifth inning the wheels come off even more you go from down 32 to down 72 with a couple of dingers not great in that inning either and you go down one two three in the bottom of the fifth inning sixth inning you have another opportunity there TR Turner Works a leadoff walk on four pitches Harper goes down swinging at a high slider well outside the strike zone b gets the swing and bunt down the Third Base Line makes it a first and second with one out situation Brandon Mars gets the RBI RBI single first and third with one out real Muto ends any threat of the damage there unfortunately and that's how that one went down seventh inning couldn't get much going either uh you got Turner on the bases you got Marsh on the bases again he was able to reach base on a misplay stop had a single it was just ugly and then St ended up later coming around to score on a wild pitch so you got sacrificed basically you got a gift for your fourth run as it went on the offense just continued to scratch and Claw in this game so I look at the offense for how they were unable as a whole especially the big bats and I thought one of the things that really did piss me off was after last night's game you listen to Bryce Harper addressed the media and he's talking about yeah this stuff happens but they got to find their way out and he really takes a lot of the responsibility as he didn't say he didn't call himself the leader of the team or anything but he just you could tell that's what was weighing on him and to see him struggling the way he's been struggling to see him throw the bat down yesterday the way he threw the bat down to see him to hear him yell and obscenity the way he did yesterday and then to see the frustrations even more so in tonight's game and no resolve just under pitches here and there the fly out to Center that he had in the first inning again just under it he is taking a lot he is carrying a lot on his shoulders I'd like for him to carry this baseball team when no one else seems to be getting it going hey look Bryson stot hitting recently that's been great it's been great to see Brandon Marsh over the last couple of days coming back from the injury saying that during batting practice he felt his like I think it was was his elbow like pop back into place weird but all right whatever works if you're hitting 409 foot home runs then more power to you there Brandon Marsh Nick casano hitting the way he's been hitting over the the course of the last two months almost that's great too but if you're not getting Trey Turner hitting if you're not getting Bryce Harper hitting if Kyle schwarber isn't hitting the schwar bombs and even though he hit two yesterday nothing for you today drew the walks which is great he was a duck on the pond for this team but if you don't have guys down in the order driving you inconsistently then you're going to make it all the harder for your starting pitchers and if you're starting pitchers aren't stepping up they were in the the way they were in the first half of the Season then just get used to this unfortunate new Norm for the Phillies it has been terrible and I know you could look at over the last um two months you know the Braves haven't exactly caught up to the Phillies the Phillies actually increase their lead over the Braves but are the Braves really your benchmark right now as I've been saying for quite some time are the Braves really your benchmark because the Benchmark for me is not just the nl's The Benchmark is being the best team in the National League being the best team in baseball hell being the best team in baseball going into the playoffs with the best record in baseball that is The Benchmark now that is where the bar is at I'll settle for best record in the National League but what I what I will will not help that whole cause is being the team that other teams get right on I've mentioned the Red Sox I've mentioned now the Yankees I mean the Yankees got got right on the Red Sox as well but if they keep that going and build momentum in this Philly series then you're looking at dropping two or three to the Red Sox you're looking at dropping two of three to the Orioles and you're looking at dropping at least two of three potentially now to the New York Yankees or you could bounce back in the Series and win the next two games and I'll feel a hell of a lot better about things because then at least I'll have some cause for hey look now they got Carlos Estes coming to the back in the bullpen you got strum Hoffman EST stez coming in there in the back end all right let's go you got Austin Hayes platooning against handed pitching less Johan roas in center field more Brandon Marsh who unfortunately did Miss play one in this game tonight but is everything else continues to play out if you're looking to build confidence for this Phillies team going forward it's going to start with the bats coming around again when we come back some haunting numbers on those Phillies bats get to those in a second also get your point of view in our chat we'll check that in a second you're locked the All-Star break Bryce Harper 6 for 42 for a 157 batting average 157 batting average the philes have won three games not great they've lost every series great Trey Turner seven for 42 I'm sorry 434 batting average sorry s for 31 uh jeez math I don't know why I tried to do math seven for 41 that's what it was 7even for 41 184 batting average JT real Muto 3 for 21 142 since the All-Star break of course he's played in now nine games I believe it is and in case you're just joining us the Phillies were 37 and 14 on May 23d May 24th they started that three- game series in Colorado lost two or three then they started the three- game series in San Francisco lost two of three they are now two games over 500 since not all right let's let's get to it all right oh John marinell you were in there early God bless you seven to two boys this one's over in the fifth inning step up we have a loser not you John the the Phillies the Phillies are the loser in that sardonic commentary uh let's look at that fifth inning again do we have to yes because if I keep doing like I somebody told me a long time ago that if you have a song stuck in your head you should just listen to that song over and over and over again then you wear it out and I gota be honest with you it actually works most times most times so I find that if I look at the box score and my own play-by-play notes enough time it enough times it'll help me sleep later it'll help me sleep better so that's good uh but let's look at that fifth inning okay fifth inning this is interesting uh yep Phillies were terrible just like every other oh my God look at this what a trend the Phillies are terrible on all these can I give you my one irrational this is my one irrational thing I'm gonna do before I go on with the rest of the chat check here uh fifth inning by the way was the sto two-run double 3-2 count lost him eight pitch a bat he won it hitting that curveball judge then struck out looking at a two seamer with great run on it that's the other thing today Wheeler's the run on his two seamer was beautiful he hung a couple sliders that did not stay in the yard unfortunately um Wells had the two-run triple off the wall that was the misplay by Maran Center then they got Stanton the pop out to St at second but by the end of that inning was seven to2 anyway sir schedule all right you have my attention already with everyone relax everyone relax it's not like a Philly sports team would just have the best record in the league and then play a bunch of good teams in a row and completely fall apart I see what he did there I see I see what did there I see what he did there John M does every Yankee have a home run now it certainly felt like it hold on no not every home but okay let me okay let me before I go on with this chat all right let me get ibh in here good evening everyone I think I know how the captain of Titanic felt holy poo Emoji all right Jazz Chism hits a two-run home run off Garrett stubs I don't like jazz Chisum I have not liked him for a very long time and I'm very glad he not a member of the Phillies yes even tonight when he hit yes two home runs one home run and then a a second ball that left the yard against Garrett stubs a position player now for reference if you remember last year Johan Roos hit a home run off Lupo I believe it was a position player pitching Yohan roas did not to hot to dog it Johan roas rounded the bases and then he kind of went like my bad to llo like I didn't mean to do it you know I mean but I did it meanwhile Jess Chisum then rounds the bases and he's doing he's doing little faces driving thing and whatever he was doing I don't know but really against stubs bro like against stubs weak sauce weak sauce now it's 14 to4 cuz I hit a two-run home run off Garrett stub look at me whoop Doo so I don't like jazz chisel at all 824 what's going on someone Tell Bryce Harper you cannot hit an eight-run Homer also our pitching staff is all Gass this team is in need of leadership and I'm speaking of their manager look I heard krucker say just before I came on here that Rob Thompson's not going to yell and scream because that's not a character and if he does that then that that shows everyone that he's panicking as a manager I agree with that which is why I even said yesterday that that's where Bryce Harper needs to flip a table now that's where a closed door meeting everyone air their grievances why are we losing what's going on here Austin Hayes you're new here any any ideas carlosz stop playing Call of Duty with Jeff Hoffman tell me right now what do we need to do here you're the new guy we need fresh eyes on this problem in case you missed Jeff Hoffman and Carlos esz are Call of Duty buddies from their days back in Colorado I believe this team needs hell of a lot more than Call of Duty and a flip table uh sir sketchable let stubs pitch every ninth until morale improves my thought was this you know what let's save stub's arm and just have Jose Alvarado pitch the ninth you know what I'm saying in games like this because it's probably stubs more anyway save the arm put put Alvarado out there I hope they have a positioned player pitch the night oh you got your wish John Grant Francis what's going on is this the same season still is trade dead line over yet is there time to get new starting lineup uh this is now embarrassing yeah it's been embarrassing for a hot minute you know what I'm saying Jo what's going on Stoke that Marsh found his Groove but embarrassing outing from the rest of the squad yep grahe can we drug test this team uh for what performance hindering drugs that's a very that's a line I steal all the time from comedian Lewis Black I like players that played with performance hindering drugs like Babe Ruth anyway uh laughing so I don't cry Kyle yes thank you Zack Wheeler that's why he was number one on my list Zack Wheeler big game pitcher Zack Wheeler Ace of the staff Zack Wheeler seven runs against the Yankees eight runs against the Orioles how about help here buddy Yankees posting a decent football score this is true oh no Ricky B saying a't so my man Ricky I love Ricky he's my boy uh Ricky B blaming it on London he said it oh did he really Richard his his real name's not Richard but I call him Richard anyway not for that reason just because it's funny anyway uh it's not uh Matt Forester give me poison uh don't do that don't do that Matt Forester Jud judge is a hell of a human specimen what did the Giants get for him Babs what's up Babs fary we can't blame Roos and Cassie for this one no you are correct B whatever far he's making son enough God bless I make plenty please come on uh boop boop okay 143 since the All-Star break that would be worse than the 157 that I have hold on did I do late math here did I do oh I'm sorry did I do early math plus 42 by six no 42 ah come on six 42 what okay I 142 yeah you're right 142 since the All-Star break yeah I did you know what I did this before that last inning 143 oh no I didn't I didn't add in the box score for tonight I thought I did okay so Harper since the All-Star break 143 uh Turner since the All-Star break 170 janc real Muto I think stayed the same because he didn't bat later in the game 142 142 so 143 Harper 142 uh JT real Muto Trey Turner 170 since the All-Star [Music] break Ken Rosenthal first off Ken big fan of yours second yeah it kind of felt like that what are you what are you talking to keep crying like a baby Hater Hater you must be a Yankee fan I haven't actually I don't think I've said anything oh no Jazz Chism yeah hold on a second any fan base that knows anything about baseball knows to like celebrate off hitting a home run off a position player is Bush League that's not even an argument like I understand okay if you understand argument here so uh let me just uh I don't want a mansplain but uh if you have a counterargument to that there's not there's no argument it's just me correcting you that's I like to say you're arguing with this guy over that no no no I'm correcting him uh Henry Wendell oh the Yankees fans found the chat uh you're welcome for your discount prices how about that you bums Joseph brenon did uh did every did everyone think the game was over at 3 nothing yep uh pretty much did Frank what's going on I'm sorry I missed you at least our pitchers make good contact with the at their jobs tomorrow on the bump for the Phils will be none other than Aaron no another 640 start time against the New York Yankees Phillies will try again to you know stop a a potential three- game losing streak which again will match their longest losing streak of the Season Aron NOA goes against Garrett Cole three and2 on the season with a 540 erra Nola is 11 and four on the season with a 344 erra Garrett Cole of course started his season late you he only has seven starts so far on the year he is coming off an abysmal performance against the New York metropolitans he wenton five and 2/ thirs allowing six runs all earned on eight hits three home runs so let's hope that he sucks at his job like we've been watching from the Phillies most recently and uh let's hope that he does a little bit more of that against your Phillies as for Aaron Nola as I mentioned he gets the ball for the Phillies tomorrow looking for his 12th win of the Season he's coming off a solid outing against Minnesota Twins where he went six Innings L one run on six hits did up one home run that was a solo home run and he walked three Phillies ended up blowing that game that was another game where they blew a three-run lead if I'm not mistaken it was a 5-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins in that one and the Phillies did have a three three-run lead so yay sports are fun I'll be back with you guys tomorrow night 640 start time I'll be back on with you guys right here on lock on Sports Philadelphia so make sure you like like And subscribe to locked on Sports Philadelphia that's locked on Sports
