what's going on everyone welcome back to another video I'm Michigan Sports Talk here in this one we talk about what wink marale said on the transition from NFL to college including his defensive scheme and Blitz strategies here at Michigan plus Mason Graham Kenneth Grant among the highest graded returning Big 10 defensive tackles also Michigan bringing in one of the best linebackers from the transfer portal plus a potential breakout player for Michigan on the defensive side and we also got some recruiting news who is next to commit following the commitment from the fourstar defensive lineman Jaylen Williams and an under the radar receiver that Michigan is going after in the 2025 class it's all going to be in this video and more so let's go ahead and get right into [Music] [Music] it right so the first thing I do want to talk about is Wink marale as the new Michigan defensive coordinator Joan the show the GM Shuffle yesterday he talked about the adjustment from the NFL to Michigan so the hardest adjustment for me has been know being in the NFL for the last 20 years you have your routine of 20 years and going back to college you think you know but it's completely different as far as the Spring ball it's just like another season even said that Jesse Mentor told him that at Michigan every day is a Tuesday said it's football 24/7 and marale said if you're a Football freak you love it I mean these kids up here are unbelievable said even when they were gone out on the recruiting Trail in the month of May there's a group of 10 to 12 guys that are down there in The Practice Facility working out there working on one-on ones working on technique and all that he said it's pretty cool you to see all the work the guys put in it's a lot of fun he also talked about his defensive scheme and his system he said the system is the system it's very flexible it's very player friendly so once you understand the concept it's easy to learn the defense but it's also different personalities calling the defense he said I think at the college level there's a lot more simulated pressures that you see when you're watching tape that work just as effectively as sending them all I did say you know let's make no mistake about it I'm more aggressive than probably both those guys Jesse Minter and Mike McDonald did say that they changed up some terminology because this is the first year we can do the coach to player communic so it's shorter onew names which is smart and should help when teams want to go fast in play I said all the players the vets that are coming back they know the system and it's been really enjoyable it's been a lot of fun and he also talked about you know when he will send more than four rushers did say that when you have free Runners to the quarterback the average fan just says well he's zero pressure and he said we don't we just attack protections well he also said that he thinks it changes from year to year depending on who you have playing for you and who you are playing against he talked about playing momes for the first time he hit him 18 times back in 2018 and he got so good at seeing pressures and where they were coming from and changing protections we said of last year that we played him anything that looked like a pressure was simulated because there's no reason to Blitz because he sees it and he throws it quick so by the last time we played momes I didn't pressure him one time because there was no use of doing it so what you did then is look at if he doesn't get rid of the ball on time right away in Rhythm if he did that it was going to Kelsey 85% of the time I said what we did in attacking him is we went with our fourth rusher and tried to reroute Kelsey before he even got into the route and then add him to the rush because it didn't matter if you came free on a blitz Mahomes is going to make that Blitzer Miss got some Intel on wink marale his defensive scheme and Blitz strategies also talking about his transition from the NFL to college and this season he's going to have one of the best defenses in all college football especially on the defensive line speaking of the defensive line uh PFF college ranked the highest graded returning Big 10 defensive tackles and of course Mason Graham up there at the top and then two Indiana defensive tackles CJ West and James Carpenter and then Kenneth Grant coming in fourth CJ West is a familiar name to you guys probably because Michigan was going after him in the transfer portal is pretty surprising two Indiana players are ranked that high or graded that high let me know what you guys think about that Kenneth Grant might be a little too low but nonetheless Michigan has the best defensive tackle Duo returning in college football next season and also wanted to talk about on Three's Jesse Simonson as he released a 2024 preseason all transfer portal team coming in at a linebacker position was Jaa baram who is the Maryland transfer linebacker coming in for Michigan and will be a starting linebacker for Michigan paired with Ernest hosman andan bam coming in has gotten a lot of Praise even had coach sh mois said that the linebackers Desa bham Ernest hosman they're going to be two of the best in the country they're going to surprise a lot of people there's no doubt about it that linebacker Duo especially with obviously Michael Barrett and Junior Coulson Michigan having to replace them and I tell you what there may not be that much of a difference for Michael Barrett and Junior Coulson to now jwn bham and Ernest hosman keeping it on the defensive side Pro Football Focus also named a Michigan quarterback a potential breakout player for next season and that's quarterback Jaden MCB burough they wrote that mcburrows is one of those guys ready to step up in shine he played 182 snaps last season finishing with a 73.1 overall grade and a 73.9 coverage grade recorded seven solo tackles with no misses and four run stops and was also targeted in cover aage 13 times but only gave up five catches for 40 yards and coming away with an interception in two pass breakups so either way Jaden mcbos is going to get a lot of playing time this year he could potentially start at nickel as both jayen mcburrows and Zeke Barry are the favorites at nickel and I do see either Amir hall or Jer Hill to St at cornerback two beside will Johnson but either way jayen mcburrows he's going to get his time to and Pro Football Focus he is potentially they think a breakout player for next season let me know what you guys think about that Michin they have a lot of Talent on the defensive side and a lot of players ready to step up but now I did want to talk about some recruiting news yesterday Michigan they got a commitment and ended the month-long drought as they landed the fourstar defensive lineman in the 2025 class Jaylen Williams we also did recap the official visit week weekend as Michigan hosted a ton of recruits over the weekend for official visits posted a video yesterday if you guys want to go ahead watch that and see how all those visits went and where Michigan stands in all those recruitments but Michigan they are not done yet as far as commitments go uh one guy that right now everybody is keeping a close eye on is the 2025 fourstar defensive lineman Maxwell Roy he's taking an official visit to Michigan on June 21st but Michigan has three crystal ball predictions going in their favor now all in the month of June and they also just got a new one today from Steve Loren of the Michigan Insider that potentially could be Michigan's next commitment I do see Michigan Landing a few more commits here in the month of June especially uh the weekend of June 21st they are hosting a whole bunch of recruits that weekend could be setting themselves up to close with a lot of recruits now I do want to talk about the 2025 three star wide receiver Preston Bowman from Pickerington North High School in the state of Ohio we did talk about him once before in a video Pickering to North is where Jake but went to school Michigan recently did just offer him and on Monday Michigan did hold its second on campus Camp of the summer Preston Bowman was there and he was one of the top performers he told Bryce Mayer to the Michigan Insider that I received wide receiver MVP say Coach B mentioned that he feels that I get better better and better every time he sees me he did say that he's an incredible teacher of the wide receiver position that type of Coach you would run through a wall for and he also said that it was very cool to walk into the facility and have people know who I am I've been considered an under the radar recruit but it's been a goal mind to change this through building relationships and my onfield performance right now Michigan does lead with a 67.8% chance to land him on the recruiting prediction machine on on three so potentially an under the radar wide receiver for Michigan in the 2025 class he a 6' 190 lb wide receiver but uh with that that's going to wrap up today's video hope you guys did enjoy if you did make sure guys go ahead drop a like comment down below and subscribe for more if you're new around here I greatly appreciate it other than that we'll see you guys in the next video go Blue
