How to Get Recruited for Soccer at Ivy League Schools

INTRODUCTION how you play college soccer at Harvard an Ivy League school if you want to play ivy league call me links in the bio let me explain to you how one of our students is now playing at [Music] Harvard so this student is named will and his father and him are soccer addicts they love soccer and he was playing at Harvard Westlake which is a huge academic High School one of the best in the whole world and this student had the grades to give him the best chance to go to he would later apply and get into Harvard but having said that INITIAL ASSESSMENT AND CHALLENGES from a soccer perspective what we had to do first is as a sophomore Jr I went up to his father I was coaching at Harvard westn at the time and I said look your son's really good he could definitely play college soccer what are his goals and he said look he wants to go to an Iva League medal school and I said okay that's a reach for him based off of his level that's just the truth that's just how I felt and he was a goalkeeper or is a goalkeeper and I was like look that doesn't mean though because you go to Harvard West Lake and because his father was like very passionate about helping him and they were both passionate it doesn't mean you can't still play division one soccer but we do have to approach this differently so to do that CRAFTING A STRATEGIC EMAIL AND HIGHLIGHT VIDEO first you have to write a strategic email in his case saying hey look I am so and so my coach at Harvard Westlake is a former NCAA division 2 champion at the coaching level he coached calad LA to the division 2 championships so right now you automatically have a reference going who's very legit so we had a coach who was very legit we have to leverage that in the email we have to mention that number number two you want to say look I'm on track to potentially be admitted into Harvard on my own without your help now that's just one way we can also talk about how to get recruited from just soccer perspective but this is this student's case I'm on track to get into Harvard doesn't mean I'm going to get into Harvard but I wanted to share with you my video so we sent his video of course we fixed it up specific and if you're going to send your video to Ivy League level schools it has to be really professional you need a self interview you need a coach interview you have to have a very good intro page it's like submitting a project like an essay or a Capstone project you're not just going to submit a highlight video made by a 15 17y old kid has to be professional so you send in the highlight video with his grades with his height he's a goalkeeper and says look here is my information here's a coach you can talk contact and the coaches initially at Harvard did not respond so I said look don't give up now we're going to follow up with the coach this coach arou saying hey this is a reference of mine where I'm doing really well for my for my high school rather and as it happened the year prior he didn't play that much because the goalkeeper at the time went on to go play called soccer so he was just a backup and so we're going to express that and then Harvard westle had a good season now high school team having a good season only helped for video it didn't really go oh that means you're the level then as time went on Harvard GAINING INTEREST FROM HARVARD COACHES University said look we like you we know who you are thank you for coming to camp we went to camp for in two ways one we did get genuine interest where they said look we are interest to come but they were transparent and said look they're not at the top of our list but we would like to see you then he fed to Harvard he got into Harvard on his own okay which is very very difficult as you know but because we had prior conversations with the Harvard coaches they said to him like we want you to be on the team and so therefore he is now playing at Harvard and here's a picture of him in his roster here's Mr will on the team very cool I want to add one other aspect IVY LEAGUE RECRUITING LEVELS if in his case he got into the school right and that's a tough way to get recruited than just depending on but Harvard and Ivy League schools basically three levels and it varies like North Eastern is even more difficult like they can't even use power as more as powerful as the IV Le so you get either we're going to get you into the school and you're on the team which means basically if they like you for sport you're going to get to go to that school then there's we're going to help you but you also have to like do a lot of it on your own it's 50/50 we're going to tell admissions we like you but it is up to admissions and then you can get in and then there's you're going to get into the school and we want you on the team those are kind of the three levels and they can only use the top one right you're getting into school because we want you for so many kids and every kid applying to Harvard has a 4.0 and above and a SAT of a 1480 pretty much across the board and that's kind of the minimum just non-negotiable so that's even if they're going to use this top strike on you go hey we're going to get you in you still need basically those alates and you need to be playing MLS next to ecnl pretty much across the board if you go to their roster and we can just go REVIEW OF HARVARD SOCCER ROSTER through a couple like here's a goalkeeper you played MLS next semi-final finals there's will then this is likely the starting goalkeeper because he's a sophomore and this is a first year so we're going to go here he played MLS he was of non-mls teams he was ranked top 10 of non-mls teams and he did end up playing in the USL Academy and USL 2 which is literally where the college players play so he was a very high level and he did end up playing in MLS games in 105 games here's another player he literally played for the u8 national team okay the US national team and he was told that he was ranked very highly amongst top drawer which is obviously a huge accomplishment and he was already offered a professional contract for New England okay so you're talking about ENCOURAGEMENT FOR UNDERDOGS AND CLOSING REMARKS professional soccer plays and this kid who wasn't even playing barely playing ecnl is playing at this level because of the extra work that we did and I love working with under dogs for that reason BOOK A CALL if you want more help playing colge soccer give me a call Link's in the bio if you want to talk to his family you can comment and I can uh introduce you that they're lovely and I'll talk to you soon [Music] h
