you are locked on Old Miss your daily podcast on the Old Miss Rebels part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day thanks again for making the locked on Miss podcast your first listen every day we're free and available wherever you get your podcast including YouTube We're part of the locked on podcast Network your team every single day hello I'm Stephen Willis today is my birthday so everybody calm down no I'm seriously we're going to be talking about basketball Tim Thomas is back from his European adventure and he's going to be talking about all the work that Chris beard has done so I'm Stephen Willis he is Tim Thomas how you doing Tim doing really good glad to be home it was a three- week trip and really enjoyed it U got to see uh all kind of tulips everywhere in Amsterdam at the kinof gardens and then we got to spend some time in London and nor London the uh the Lake District then down south on St I beautiful Beach area it was a fun trip uh tough on a guide 68300 or so you know what day it is it's tough on the guys to travel like Dan Fogelberg song uh the fans are great but traveling is hell so sometimes you know makes you kind of weary and jet lag and all that but glad to be home and happy birthday thank you very much and while you were gone Chris beard decided to get to work and the first thing he did was make sure Matthew Morel comes back to Old Miss now the thing about this that everybody needs to realize is Matthew Morell was almost his best player a year ago he's probably going to be the best player on this team that has gotten significantly more balanced and potentially better but you're seeing all over the internet right now saying this Old Miss Basketball team they're an NCAA tournament team right now yeah that Rob doer on field of 68 mentioned Matt Morell as the most underrated guy that was coming back of all the hundreds that came back he was the most underrated and I believe it he they also feel the 68 really speaks highly of Old Miss and beard I think Goodman has a has a thing with a beard but Mel uh bucket getter uh coming back for his fifth year Big Time s as you I think he was already one of the highest signes at all Miss at ever sign but he he's he's really good really impressive good kid I think loves to play defense uh he needs a little work on his rebounding course I saw it at the combine the g-league combine thing they measured him at 6'2 and around a half so he they listed around 6'4 65 a lot of places barefooted he's 6'2 a little over 6'2 so but he's a great tremendous shooter uh last year we talking about he needs to do some Flanigan type thing he needs to if he can't get open he's got to get you know drive at the go he's got to get open take it to the hole and get fouled and things that's that's some of the things he's got to work on but shooter wise he's one of the best in the whole country he can really light it up yeah if you're looking for Matthew Morell going for the NBA draft next year what he needs to work on it on Miz I just think he needs to work on being the number one guy he needs to work on doing that Allen Flanigan stuff when the other team goes on a run he is the player that goes and gets a bucket he has the talent to do it he has the athleticism he's an excellent shooter he just needs to be a honestly a little bit more selfish and if he can do that and get that mindset going that killer mindset Matthew Morell could be a really good basketball player for Miss yeah he he's got to be a leader let's just be honest he's got to be a leader I think this guard we GNA talk about Sean padulla I believe he's going to be a leader also you gotta have guys like that that come in and take over I'm not saying Juju wasn't really good but ju guu he's more of a two guard we talked about but Shan padulla really awesome player looking forward to watch him lead this team to great things yeah we'll start with Shawn padulla talking about him transferring from Virginia Tech this is one of the players that Chris beard kind of got going with after you left for Europe he had three games of over 30 points a year ago now if everybody who is trying to find their version of Dalton connect I think sha padulla has a chance to be that Dalton connect type player he played point guard he's a very good distributor of the basketball if you look down he averaged nearly five assists a game four and a half rebounds over 16 points average and just as is a bucket getter a little bit and he's somebody that can transform the offense by making the other team focus on multiple backcourt players he uh Sean has potential we say Morel is going to be the number one team I believe this kid what I've seen in videos and I watched him some last year he he's got a Swagger he's tough he's confident he's a scorer he's a great passer and as we talked about leader he's a really leader great leader and I think he's uh He's got potential to make this team be really good he can shoot the ball he can take it to the hole he's one of them guys we call dogs or dudes he he's really makes it happen and I'm looking forward to watching him this year yeah and some lower level school players also got recruited in the transfer portal this year particularly Devin Barnes from Sam Houston everybody that went to the Tad pad game got to see Davin Barnes play in that game he averaged 13 and a half a game three and a half rebounds little over an assist and a half per game I do not know much about this player what do I need to know about him uh Old Miss couldn't stop him not saying a whole lot from last year's team but he could really score you I watched him I was there at the old Hadad pad Jord watched him I noticed him really quickly because everything he shot went in and he really hustles he really he likes to rebound he he likes to pass it and he's he's he's a great scorer he's a great leader you could tell he's one of them guys that's real gritty real tough takes to the whole rebound just loves to block out and loves to get the ball I could you could tell that that's why Chris beard saw enough of him last year he want him on his team so I'm really impressed with this kid yeah right before you went to Europe was the Davis news that he came from Sean Hall om Miss has three players on their roster next year Tim that averaged over 15 points a game at a high major institution yeah he's tough um gritty he's a winner he's going to be a leader also it's awesome to have several leaders on your team he can hit the three he takes it inside U seen Hall won the NIT last year they they beat some great teams I think Indiana state in the finals but he was really good against Yukon several times they played and all the Big E teams he's really really good finishes well inside he steals the ball some he's just a great player I I enjoy watching him I think he's going to be a potential star because he can really score he's a lot like Flanigan but he can really shoot the three also Flanigan had trouble with a three but he's a lot like about the same size of figan takes the the hole real strong likes to rebound all these guys we're get we're going to find all all these guys love to rebound offensive rebound defensive rebound these guys love to rebound we we we we we talked about that enough last year we'll let that go for now but they're really tough guys and some of these guys as we're fixing to talk about they got chips on their shoulders they uh they played at a smaller like Belmont or Hampton or UNC Greensboro you know that like this kid he started vanol didn't get to play and he went to League D I went to Belmont and played well now he's ready he was in the draft there with Morel so he he's good enough if you watch his film uh he can take it to the hole he can score everywhere and he's 69 240 got a good body and he loves the rebound you see there very very intense guy very uh I think I talked about he he he got a little Swagger himself um very Le power forward I guess you say but he also played center that's where I think he'll play uh till uh John B comes around but really can shoot to three really can step out hit the three and if you cover him up he'll take to the hole he puts it in the hole he finishes he finishes the shot and he gets fouled a lot really good big guy for us Malik Dia kind of reminds you of the player that everybody wants Jamon breakefield to become true that's that's that's good statement yeah he uh he's he's strong he's tough he's uh he's not afraid to get inside and rough it up a little bit and really impressed with this kid yeah and one more transfer came in Michael Brown Jones um um coming in I think it was North Carolina Wilmington um averag nearly 19 points a game seven and a half rebounds one point there you look at positionist basketball and you see this Old Miss Basketball team is kind of taking form of what Chris beard wants now that he has a full year to recruit these kids yeah I was impressed by his video too really loves the rebound offensive rebound he loves to get on the boards defends well blocks shots really well inside outside guy could pop out hit the three great percentage from the three rebounder as you see 7.5 eight eight round 18 19 points a game we got some scores on each team and uh we won't be just be let's set a few pigs to get Morell open or let fenan take it to the hole and hope he hits one of those fade backs you know we got several guys padulla we'll talk about this later maybe if we do the CH lineup but padulla and Morel and this kid here along with Dia they could really score the ball yeah let's let's look at what this basketball team looks like the starting lineup of this team I I I think obviously padulla is is set up to be the one player the point guard on this team because I agree with that yeah he he is probably the only point guard on the roster that's true I mean Juju would be a backup for him I think two might be Matthew Morel Matthew Morell is probably going to be the two guard in this team I believe he's got that I believe he's got that spot so up I believe he's got yeah and I think Dre Davis is is set up for the three and then so far you're doing good yeah and you have the four I think Malik Dia because he can jump out and shoot the three-point shot and I think Brown Jones is probably you're five you you may be right and it's okay with me but breakefield uh beard loves breakefield he loves something about this guy I think he's a team player he kind of and you may that's okay good with that but I think breakfield may be the four and D may be the five but what you had is is perfectly good and perfectly great uh and brakefield can really play well at times he can really score in and out does some little fancy shots inside really impressive and he'll be a leader he'll be a senior so he he's uh GNA be a leader too so we go we GNA have four or five leaders which is awesome to hear about you know the football team you got 85 scholarships so you got you know two or three leaders like d but this team has potential to have three or four really headstrong tough gritty and and he's going to push the defense and rebounding more than he ever has these guys I think he's got enough of he's got eight or 10 guys here can really play so if somebody's not have last year we didn't have that but this year we got guys that'll step up and take her place and it's no stopping them they'll just come in and take over so he he's going to say these guys real clearly I think he gonna make it really clear yeah there they there's guys on this team that got a significant amount of minutes last season that might be the nine player on the roster might be the 10 player on the roster this season could be a lot of these the greater teams the best teams you got to have nine to 10 players can really just Shuffle in and out and don't have a difference like several teams we watched in the NCA tournament they had lot of guys that could play that one get tired they put another one in and he could shoot better than that guy or they bring another one in so that's the key to playing the hard-nosed defense rebounding it takes energy to play hard defense every time down the it takes energy to block out every time at the free throw line down low and I think we got the guys can do we'll see how it goes it's hard to know just watching the film but it looks to me and I think other guys you've seen that a lot of other the media people are really picked Old Miss most of them everybody within the top 25 so that's good to see thanks again for making the lockon Miss podcast your first listen when we come back Tim Thomas is going to be on the hot seat and talk about his top five wide receiver this is a the lockon podcast Network your team every single day all right Tim top five time you're on the hot seat and um you have missed the last couple of weeks of me doing this we've had some good stuff some great debates um but we've gotten to the top wide receivers and you I know you're a basketball guy you could probably name the top five small forwards inma basketball history a little bit easier than the top wide receivers in Miss football history but we're going to do the top five wide receivers in football history top five number five this this is really tough I I grew up it's tough to hear I know y'all want hear this I grew up Alabama fan lived in north Alabama all my life and Bear Bryant and all that not really a saving fan so I know you'll love to hear that but I I do keep up with football I I listen to you show on a regular basis so I'm gonna go recent start off my thing I know some of the big names I'm gonna start off I love Dayton Wade number five I love Dayton Wade walk on guy from Western Kentucky I do know a little bit and he came in and made some great U catches yes I love the way he talked and interviewed I laugh through every interview I heard of him the way he kind of just made things I would try to mock him but that'd be ridiculous but I enjoy watching D weight I think he's really good really really good football player and somebody that probably you know there's so many wide receivers and om history these lists are going to be completely different depending on your flavor of choice and yes I really like Dayton way he had three catches that were Sports Center level top 10 plays last season number four attitud his attitude and the way went about himself carried himself I I'm not sure where he he'll end up but he he's really really impressive yeah he's going to be successful in life he's somebody that you just hear him for five minutes you realize he's he's going to be really successful number four I'm going with RAC it again I enjoy watching this Trey Harris guy wide receiver we have right now and if he has another year like he did last year uh he's gonna be up there high in the draft joice I love watching him he's tall lean gets up makes some great outstanding catches against some big teams that's what I like I like to see these guys that play the best against the better teams the one that really make things happens when it comes down to you know you got to make this catch to win this game and Trey Harris I enjoy watching him I enjoy listening to him his interviews and I think he's GNA be a great he already is great but he's gonna be great I'm glad he came back to play another year lendy Sports um they do their positional rankings and Trey Harris right now this year is the number three wide receiver in the entire country so it's probably a good call because of all the old Miss wide receivers I don't know if I remember another receiver being that high yeah I enjoyed watching him seem like a good clean cut kid uh him and D are big buddies and that's that's a big draw because you got somebody they want to throw to you because you can catch everything if anywhere close a little short radius he has a big radius you can tell he can catch from uh and he's got the body lean body Pro body I enjoy watching him number three oh it's getting kind of hard down here uh here we go DJ medf uh some of these guys I don't know they're just really really good I know they played Pro and all and you can tell they're really good I watched these games during you know during the season that Old Miss but didn't pay enough attention to some of these guys but I got him number three number two I got lacoin Treadwell I enjoyed watched them U he made some outstanding catches then some of them alab you know being from Alabama I love the games again that Old Miss beat Alabama I love those games and as I remember he was one of the really better receivers during those games and when we won't beat beat them a couple times and he was probably the first wide receiver that Old Miss got that just looked on the field completely different this it's like this is new he he's a new type of player and that led to what I think your number one is I think this is pretty much a free space yeah I'm GNA surprise every back AJ Brown I love him uh I think he's from starold right it's really cool that this kid came up from starold and he uh he just showed out and he still showing out really good player I saw some of the pictures some of these guys with their shirts on and wow they're really uh big big guys enjoyed watching this guy play really catches the ball well and these guys can get open on anybody that's what some of our guys really got to work on Trey and some get getting open that's the key and and this guy's the yes I think and you know honorable mention let's let's not forget to mention Michael Harmon who was John for that's from that's from your era yeah um let's not forget about Pat Coleman Eddie small those guys from the Billy Brewer era and then you have like Grant herd and Mike espie and those guys that were with Eli but we have so many receivers at Old Miss this top five list is going to be nuts well I hope I've done it justice I I don't keep up like I do basketball I'm being truthful about that but I enjoy watching I'm glad we're I'm looking forward to a great year I don't see why we won't we definitely got it on paper we'll see if we can do it on the field okay before I let you go then I'm going to I'm going to ask you this question and put you on the spot you have no nobody he has had no time to prepare for this question right okay Gerald glass or Chris Jackson which would you rather have Chris Jackson could really play man that guy could go he could do it from everywhere Dr glass big strong kid I enjoyed watched him play but if I had had a team I I'd pick Chris Jackson all right thanks again for making the locked on Old Miss podcast your first listen every day we're
