Training and competing as a world class athlete is intense, and for years, Egan swimmer Mallory Wegman has been doing just that with three Paralympic gold medals under her belt. This weekend she was competing again, all while 26 weeks pregnant. Heidi caught up with her tonight. Got some stars in this one. When Mallory Wegman raced in the US Paris Swimming National Championships, she did so with her little one along for the ride, showcasing that path forward for other individuals and hopefully inspiring our next generation to understand that, you know, it's not an either or as a woman, like we have choices. Eagan Paralympian is a Mama on a mission to change the narrative. There's still so much stigma that exists within pregnancy for women, and there's so much stigma. That exists for women with disabilities in their journey to parenthood in general. And so I think just having that moment of sitting behind the blocks and realizing that that image is about something so much larger. Did you think when you first got pregnant that you would be competing at 6 1/2 months pregnant? I've always wanted to race pregnant. Now, the threshold of where and the pregnancy I would be racing, I wasn't quite sure. Mallory not only raced, she placed second in the 50 meter fly and also made it to the. Finals on days two and three. But it's not about that for a fact there. There's a young girl somewhere in this country, around 11 years old, that looked to my Instagram page and said to her parents I didn't know that somebody in a wheelchair could have babies. And she's a young girl who's a wheelchair user for nationals. Mallory raced in the 200 IM which she won gold for in Tokyo. She hopes to defend her title in the 2024 Paralympics in Paris. Fast forward just over a year and a half, hopefully all goes well and. We'll get to see my husband in the stands in Paris holding our little one, and then I'll get to show them photos and tell them that this one time when when I was pregnant with them, I got to race it with them. And I, as Mallory puts it, showing women are capable of remarkable things that should be celebrated, not limited. Heidi Wiggall, Carol, Levin news.
