Ian Rapoport BREAKING: Browns consider trade QB Jameis Winston, Chiefs waive WR Kadarius Toney

alongside Judy Batista any in Rapaport I am Tom peliso a lot of moves a ton of moves around the NFL and in fact there are still four teams that have not announced their Final Cuts three hours later still waiting for the wire maybe a surprise or two maybe it'll happen in the next hour of this show we will get to all of those significant transactions around the league but let's start out with a significant quote out of the media today for the first time since his star wide receiver Jamar Chase began practicing again on Sunday obviously a big development in the ongoing hold in situation that has gone on throughout the course of training camp for Jamar Chase still no contract for Chase but Zach Taylor certainly sounds like he expects that guy to be in uniform when it counts Ian Zack Taylor today saying that he does anticipate jamor Chase is going to be out there week one not a surprise again again with Chase getting back onto the field Where Do We Stand though in terms of the contract Saga right now with Jamar Chase and what impact of any is this going to have in terms of his level of participation when we get to week one first of all great quote great quote from Zack Taylor being asked about Jamar Chase saying do you expect him to play week one simply saying yes contractually obligated he is not injured this all makes sense my understanding is the two sides are still discussing a potential long-term extension that if he got it would make him either tied for the highest paid receiver with Justin Jefferson or beating juson Jefferson by one cent which I believe is in fact the goal by Jamar Chase we will see over the next I don't know how many days I'm not going to do the math in my head but a couple days till the season starts whether or not that happens but that's the money part of it the football part of it is Jamar Chase is going to play I don't know that I've ever seen a scent in a contract I don't know how you would prate one cent over like a fiveyear type of a contract anyway a lot of lot of logistics involved point is mar at some Point's going to get his money it's matter if it's it going to be now or is it going to be later Hassan reck meanwhile wanted that money yesterday from the New York Jets after he was acquired in the offseason from the Eagles has still not gone through a walk through a practice a meeting anything besides a press conference with his new team but he is out there at least working out on the field so how quickly could aan reic be ready to play Robert Sol phal shape you know like I said he's a he's a veteran he's he knows what he needs to get ready um you know he's had success in multiple buildings and multiple schemes uh with multiple coaching staffs and so he's going to know what he needs to do to be ready for week one so he still has plenty of time Judy this has been a strange unique situation for the past month plus here with Assan reck not showing up to training camp he is getting fine he's never been with this new team what do you make of where we stand right now just less than two weeks until the season opener and how in the world does this whole thing get resolved well today Roberts H to me sounded like a continuation of you remember about a week ago maybe two weeks ago he said they would welcome Hassan reic in with open arms whenever he comes in and this seemed like a continuation of that thought right he's saying this is a veteran he knows how to be ready he knows how to keep his if you want to get him on the practice field at all but this was Robert salah's way of saying if he comes in before the season kicks off on Monday Night Football in San Francisco he is going to participate the question is will he come in we don't know we know he wants a new contract we know the Jets are holding firm to the idea that they're not going to negotiate with somebody who's not in the building so something's got to give at some point all right so it is cut down day in the NFL all teams are required to get down to the 53-man roster limit by 400 p.m. eastern time earlier today I mentioned off the top of the show four teams had not released their cuts the Chiefs just did they confirmed what Ian reported earlier today which is that the Chiefs are waving wide receiver cadarius Tony former Giants first round draft pick he was caught in a numbers crunch in Kansas City where they also just announced too that they have waved Justin Ross as well as one of their backup quarterbacks Chris lad in New England bayy zappy one of the quarterbacks who got let go earlier today a guy who had started at times during his career in New England he was let go at the roster cutdown last year as well under slightly different circumstances they drafted two quarterbacks this year Drake may Joe Milton both those guys on the 53 man roster I would anticipate zappy has some interest around the league and the same goes for Desmond Ritter the former Atlanta Falcon starter former star at the University of Cincinnati he was traded in this off season to Arizona for wide receiver Rond Del Moore well Moore suffered a season ending injury during training camp now Desmond Ritter also not going to play a game for his new team he gets waved earlier today another player who based where he was drafted the body of work and the number of teams that still potentially could use an upgrade at the backup quarterback position Desmond Ritter could land someplace quickly you know who doesn't need another quarterback right now would be the New York Giants they kept three quarterbacks on their team Daniel Jones their starter Drew lock and yes Tommy DeVito continuing to stick with New York Ian probably not a surprise for the Giants not just in terms of Daniel Jones Health but the reality that the rules now favor the teams give you an extra roster exemption for having the third quarterback on your active roster to you though what if anything does it say about their confidence in Daniel Jones coming off that injury that they decide to set up the roster the way they did in that room J go ahead let you take this one oh I'll take it thank you um well first of all doesn't it feel like more teams kept three quarterbacks today I I feel that way that than we've seen in the past but in the case of the New York Giants first of all the obvious Daniel Jones is coming off a bad knee injury and Drew lock got banged up uh in training camp and during the preseason he's got a hip an oblique situation so Tommy DeVito sticks Brian deal said talking about the entire roster it's fluid it's fluid so certainly you could see changes here but they needed the insurance I mean Drew lock is the backup when he is healthy but you don't know if he's going to be healthy and of course you know Daniel Jones is coming off a big injury so you have to make sure he can get through a game uh and Tommy DeVito uh look he did provide a spark last season when they needed it and he was able to uh get in there and run the offense and obviously he knows the offense even better now so he sticks at least for the time being and certainly when Drew lock gets back to full health and maybe when they see if Daniel Jones can make it through some games here you know then you see if they'll reevaluate there were a bunch of teams that went with two quarterbacks on their initial 53-man rosters today but you certainly understand based upon the number of players 26 backup quarterbacks started games in 2024 while some teams would decide to go with three one team Ian kept four quarterbacks the question now is Will four quarterbacks still be on the Browns roster come week one right of course you're talking about the Cleveland Browns and you're right they have a starter in Deshawn Watson should be fine for the season they have DTR who they really like for the future and I would imagine view him as a potential future backup quarterback they also have Snoop Hundley and then of course they also have jamus Winston and I would say both of those names came up in trade conversations jamus obviously would be a different conversation because he's making a lot more money Snoop hungy would be a little more of a sort of lower signing a team looking to add a backup quarterback I wonder if that would make sense for the Minnesota Vikings did not end up happening but for the Cleveland Browns I would expect them to have at some point three quarterbacks we just don't know for sure who it's going to be and you're right guys there are plenty of time to shape the roster probably not going to start with four but even if they do it would sort of make sense because guys do get injured teams do have needs for quarterback if this is a real asset they could have you know get in a in a potential trade then they should probably just keep them in wait cuz injuries are unfortunately going to happen well so many people within the league over the past week have made the connections Sno Huntley the Chargers they got Justin Herbert banged up he has familiarity with Greg Roman's offense to the extent that the Chargers might have been thinking hey we'll just wait till he gets cut and then we'll claim him instead of or sign him instead of giving you something for him the Browns say no no no you're going to have to you're going to have to deal with us if you want to be able to get that guy in your roster so some interesting decisions here to be made in the coming days one situation that got resolved earlier today the Rams found a new home for their inside linebacker Ernest Jones IV who gets traded for a late round pick swap to the Tennessee Titans Titans just lost one of their linebackers to a season ending injury a couple of days ago here for Ernest Jones ends up in a new spot for him and certainly a new look Tennessee team overall now with head coach Brian callaham there were a lot of players let go over the past several days here look at some of the notable names we mentioned a few of them earlier today Martavis Brian also his comeback maybe h a little bit of a speed bump we'll see if he can land on the commander practice squad Allan Robinson the Giants veteran wide receiver who by all accounts to had a really good camp also ends up being released remember vested veterans not just young players now are allowed to sign on practice squad so some of these names you're seeing here as well as the likes of Anders Carlson who will have to go to waivers could have new teams in the
