[Music] ball game no yes no [Music] [Music] Here Comes Here Comes Here [Music] Comes well hello cuties it is now that time of year time for Friday night and Saturday tailgating they say in Texas football is King and it just might be but I speak from experience in Alabama football is a religion I am a Crimson Tide fan myself roll tide roll and of all Alabama's Rivals including Tennessee LSU Mississippi State oh miss they all pale in comparison to the team that is the biggest rival to Alabama the Auburn Tigers in Alabama the two top tier football teams are not NFL they are college and it is Auburn and Alabama and a side must be picked and for those who live in Alabama but are not from there they also must pick a side at least on one certain day every year and on that day it's father versus son mother versus daughter even husband versus wife A House Divided there's no middle ground two cross State rivals meet and on that day a side must be picked the Battleground is known as the iron ball arguably the most intense rivalry in all of college football maybe in all of sports period the iron balll pits the story power the Alabama Crimson Tide versus its most hated Nemesis the Mighty Auburn Tigers two of the most stored football programs in the nation and having only a few things in common one is the almost maniacal hatred for the other another is the mascot confusion the Alabama Crimson Tide whose mascot is an elephant named Big Al and then you have the Auburn Tigers who have Alby the tiger the mascot who has won many mascot championships yet they yell War Eagle and have a house eagle that flies around the stadium at the plains at Jordan hair it is almost like both teams have identity crisis but there are Back stories to each battlecry and mascot and the quick backstory on Alabama is in the early days Alabama could never settle on a name and mascot they were known as the crimson and white uh The Varsity The Thin Red Line it was in the 1907 ironball in Birmingham where Auburn was heavily favored in a rivalry game that would not renew for another 40 years in this game the field was a sea of mud and BMA held the heavily favored Auburn Tigers to a 66 tie the only tie in the series and sports Rider Hugh Roberts and seeing the Alabama team covered in mud red mud he dawned them the Crimson Tide later Seasons the Crimson Tide was popularized by writer zip Newman of the Birmingham news now let's fast forward a few years to 1930 when legendary coach Wallace Wade had assembled a great Alabama team a writer of the time wrote a typical Wade machine big powerful tough fast aggressive fundamentally sound and one of the best blocking teams you'll ever see during this season o Miss was in a battle with the Crimson Tide and the Wade had started his second team and when the first team finally took the field a fan shouted hold your horses the elephants are coming due to the sheer size of the first team thus the team was dawned the red elephants with a real elephant mascot until the famous Elephant mascot today Big Al became the sidelines leader consequently in 1930 Wade's red elephants had a 10 and0 record shutting out eight opponents and only allowed 13 points off season to scoring 217 of their own this was where the team made it to the first Rose Bowl they ever made it to where everyone in the nation said that the simple Southern brutes could not handle a West Coast modern offensive attack like that of their Rose Bowl opponents Washington State well the red elephants annihilated Washington State 24 nothing and became national champions it was number three of the 18 Alabama would win this is where in the fight song yeah Alabama it says fight on fight on fight on men remember the rose bow we will win then since three of Bama's college football national titles were won at the Rose Bowl that's one hell of a road for fans now yelling roll tide roll and being led by an Elephant mascot named Big Al now across the state Auburn whose official mascot is Alby the tiger a mascot that has in its history won 11 UCA mascot national championships and leads the Auburn nation in a frenzied battlecry of War Eagle yes and Auburn Tiger leading them into a chant of War Eagle and here's the origin story for that there is two stories one comes from 1892 when students during the Auburn Georgia game started shouting War Eagle while another more credible version I think says that Airman thrash Thrasher inulin coined the term at a pep rally in 1913 where he dropped a metal Eagle U emblem from his uniform when asked what he dropped he yelled War Eagle and thus a battlecry was born and to this day an eagle flies around Jordan hair before game stirring the Auburn fateful into a war eagle frenzy whilst intimidating their opponents and this this rivalry the ironball had started in 1893 and it resulted in an Auburn win in front of 5,000 fans little did these fans know they witnessed the first game of a rivalry that will go down in history as one of if not the most stor rivalries filled with peasantry tradition loyalty and very intense rivalry with a little hatred mixed in and here is where where the heated rivalry leaded to disagreement Auburn called their game of 1893 its first game of 1893 season while Alabama called it the last game of its night 1892 season one hell of an argument by 1907 the Rivalry had become truly intense so intense that it took another 40 years before the Rivalry would renew in 1948 it Lord for 40 years due to a disagreement on players for DM to Birmingham how many players to bring and where they would get the officials for the game this leading to 40 Years of these two staring across the state at each other it took State legislation to renew the Rivalry in 1948 now in those law years glaring across the state at one another Alabama's Revolution into a National Power had become full Fair under Wallace Wade's leadership for three titles for him Frank Thomas claimed two more titles and they had 14 straight winning seasons the renewed battle in 1948 picked up where it left off with 40 Years of pent up frustration aggression and fans just going at each other a fans allowed in early just so they could y Roll Tide and War Eagle at each other in shouting matches before the game start though the Auburn Universe suffered a 55 nothing defeat at the hands of the Crimson Tide this resurrected rivalry was being held in Birmingham at Legion Field at a neutral site the name of the iron ball and the ironball was always held at Birmingham until 1989 when it started rotating between Bryant Denny and Jordan hair thus the 1948 resurrected rivalry became arguably the meanest nastiest yet most fun rivalry in college football it was dubb the iron balll due to birmingham's iron production which rivaled even Pittsburgh Pennsylvania because Birmingham was the only place in the world with all the ingredients locally to produce iron and in 1964 Auburn coach sh Jordan of Auburn coaching Fame coined the phrase ironball now Alabama leads the series 50 37 And1 and since the 1950s both schools were in the Elite Class of college football teams making this game all the more intense for the fans and players alike it always had National implications every year since the 1950s and since the 1950s collectively award and Alabama account for 38 SEC titles 30 by Alabama eight by Auburn many famous games with names stem from these games have been held at this intense rivalry 1964 was the first televised iron bowl with the great Willie Joe namoth leading the tie to a 2114 victory in 1967 the run in the mud saw raining carrying today holding the game to one TD a TD run by Kenny the snake Stabler of Oakland Raider lore giving Bama a 7 to3 win now pump Bama pump was the 1972 game where Bama was leading 16 to3 and during the lead Auburn was able to block two punts for TV TDS giving Auburn a 17 to6 win the 1981 iron ball saw legendary coach Paul Bear Bryant win his 315th game and that was the last year of the reign of terror as it was called by Auburn fans 1982 Saw Auburn in the reign of terror with Bo Jackson's over the top dive for the win which was called Bo over the top in 1984 Bo Jackson yet again appears in a game but this time he was a blocking back he went the wall wrong way allowing Bama's defense to win the day and it was known as wrong way bow on this day Bo didn't know now in 1985 this nailbiter became known in the annals of iron ball history and college football history as the kick when van Tiffin kicked a 52 yard game-winning field goal for Alabama this game's epic fourth quarter had four lead changes leading to tiffin's Epic 52 yard Blast from the hash hitting a win at the buzzer and they won 2523 now 2010 saw Auburn's epic comeback on the back of quarterback sensation Cam Newton hence the Game's name cam back Auburn won 28-27 coming back from a 24 to nothing deficit this game sparked many Outfield Antics with the worst being Auburn fans uh desecrating Bear Bryant statue with an Auburn Jersey and the infamous Harvey Dyke incident where he poisoned the famous tumis Corner trees in alurn let me tell you what I did the weekend after the Iron Bowl I went to Auburn Alabama cuz I live 30 m away and I poisoned the two tumors trees did they di they're not dead yet but they they definitely will die is that against the law to poison a tree well do you think I care no okay I really don't roll down tide which is something I would not condone the trees didn't do a damn thing now 2013 is my least favorite game and it still gives me a bad taste in my mouth because when tied at 28 all with 1 second left Adam Griffith of Alabama attempted a 57 yd field goal with it coming up so short that Auburn's Chris Davis caught it and returned it 10 and something yards for game-winning TD for Auburn forever will this game be known as the kick six now the 2021 game was called the overtime game where number three BMA defeated Auburn 24-22 in four overtimes now Bryce young had a hman moment with a minute 43 remaining in the game losing 10 to three he led the Bama offense downfield to score the tying TD to send it to overtime and finally the iron ball that has washed most of the taste of the kick six out of my mouth was the 2023 iron ball known as fourth and 31 or Gravedigger was only 32 seconds left in the game and Bama trailing by 2420 and the offense was facing a fourth and 31 the Auburn faithful and Jordan hair were already celebrating Victory just roaring and making noise when all of a sudden you heard nothing but crickets and that was due to Jaylen milro completing a pass to the corner of the end zone to Isaiah bond to take the lead 27-24 in which Bama won the iron ball has seen many future n great make an impact one being before he was an upstart Jets and Super Bowl MVP QB Willie Joe namoth was one hell of a Alabama quarterback and when he made it to Broadway he was the man who made fur coats fashionable on the grd iron another famous VMA QB was Kenny the snake stabber famous for the runin the mud ironbow before he became the running gunning swashbuckling Oakland Raider QB who was also a Super Bowl winner other Alabama notables were Barry cruss Tony Nathan Shan Alexander John Hannah Cornelius Bennett Derek Thomas Derek Henry Bryce young Devonte Smith Mark Ingram the first Heisman winner for Alabama Trent Richardson Eddie Lacy Naji Harris the names could go on forever as would with auburn and its share of famous players such as Cam Newton Bo Jackson Chris Davis Patrick Nicks Mike Cen Kevin green Dave Edwards James Brooks Joe cribs on and on and on and as I said before before you're allowed to move into your new home here in Alabama you're more likely will be approached by your new neighbors with the all important question are you an Alburn and Alabama fan and and you had better have an answer quick because there is no middle ground for Aubin and Alabama fans they deal in absolutes it's do or do not or you're for or against there is no maybe or kind of or part-time and FYI just so you know that the workplace is not immune to you being cornered and having your boss ask you the same question are you an Auburn or Alabama fan and sometimes your job may very well depend on it and your job you may not ever even have or you may lose if you give the wrong answer even young men on their first Dream date will get cornered out by the dad demanding to know what where your allegiances lie and you had better have an answer both fan bases have two classes of fan the ibly Grimson or ibly blue fan and these die hard class of fans is where I fall in and we can be loud and we are constant ly for our team no matter what it does not matter win or lose we are for our team now I can say Auburn fans are just as dedicated as Alabama fans now the other fan base is what I call Taliban fanatical like my mother the worst thing you could do is give her a gag gift and it be an Auburn shirt she will be getting you a cup of coffee while plotting your destruction and revenge on your overboard and outlandish trick and she will pay pay you back for the insufferable slight you gave her and her Crimson Tide whether it's at tumi's corner in Auburn or on the quad at Alabama tailgating is a stable presence of the pregame festivities and I can verify no matter where it's held the food and the Rivalry atmosphere couldn't be any better you have fans yelling War Eagle other fans yelling Roll Tide them yelling back and forth at each other while sharing food saying there is is the best and it's hard to pick who is the best because everybody's as good and Everywhere You Walk you will be hit with either rooll tide or War Eagle a coach's job is also dependent on the success of this game due to the Rivalry and Auburn has seen quite a few different coaches over the past Seasons during the Nick Saven era and they have suffered many more defeats than wins during this era and I hate to be the bear of bad news but I think it's just going to continue you for Coach Ken dbor is a perfect fit and is starting his legacy at Alabama he has hired a great coaching staff and the players have seemed to bought into it and this is my condensed rivalry called the iron balll a game that pits Auburn and Alabama against each other where a state divided whether you're father son friend foe you are going to drink either the Crimson Kool-Aid or the blue Kool-Aid there's no in between until next time this is big Duke 6 with his college football rivalries [Music] later Here Comes [Music] I don't really want now
