football is officially back so Bears fans I have a little bit of news that I want to share with you guys um on this Sunday morning uh Ryan poles actually fired back at critics um of a key position group that you know critics and analysts have been giving uh Ryan poles and the Bears a hard time this offseason and we have talked a whole lot about what Ryan poles and the Bears have done with this roster um especially on the off offensive side of the football once again you talk about add guys like Keenan Allen DeAndre Swift Roma dun obviously Caleb Williams uh so Ryan poles and the Chicago Bears were for the most part getting a lot of praise for how good on paper this Bears offense can actually be but as we all know something that we have talked about many times on the podcast right here on K on the mic Ryan poles and the Bears organization have been getting a lot of crap I'm about the Chicago Bears offensive line I'm in basically saying this is going to be the reason why the Bears offense won't be able to excel um because of the fact that there's really no dep or the starters can never really stay healthy really talking about Nate Davis and Tevin Jenkins you know but Ryan poles came out in his press conference and just really fired back at the critics um it sounds like he is pumped up about this group and he feels like this is the best de he has ever seen um for the Chicago Bears offensive line ever since he has been the Bears GM he had this to say Bears fans I think that group has the ability to be special he said and he's confident the lineup can take a hit this is probably the best death I've ever had Paul said I let one of the guys go on cutdowns and I was like man you did an excellent job I wish we could keep you here he said this is the deepest room I've ever been a part of so we have more versatility more dep shoot we have 10 guys so I feel comfortable obviously you want your starting five to be healthy and ready to go but I feel more confident in the depth of our offensive line than I ever have before bears fans these are very interesting comments by general manager Ryan poles um because as a Bears fan we have been given him a whole lot of crap about him not really focusing on on the offensive line ever since he has been the Bears general manager um the Bears offensive line has for the most part been pretty mediocre and and we were all so confused that why it was so hard especially being an ex offensive lineman that Ryan poles is why was it so hard um for Ryan poles to build a quality offensive line but I want to share with you guys some stats um on today's episode of ke on the mic because I think there is a reason why Ryan polls is so confident um in this year's Chicago Bears offensive line and when I really dug deeper into it I can see where the confidence is coming from and this is truly um the best offensive line or the best 10 guys that we have had in a very long time let's start out with the projected starters for the 2024 Chicago Bears of course you have Braxton Jones at left tackle you're going to have teev Jenkins at left guard and we all know about te Jenkins as long as he can stay healthy I feel like he is an All Pro Guard in National Football League Of course Coleman Shelton had a really good preseason he really um carried his weight I'm not sure when Ryan Bates is healthy if he will be the starting center but it seems like Coleman Shelton will be the bear starting center of course Nate Davis we talked a lot about Davis as long as he can stay healthy I think he can be a quality Right Guard for the Chicago Bears and then of course Darnell right um the the right tackle um that we drafted last year with the 10th overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft going into his second season there's a lot of high expectations and I do want to make it very clear that Darnell Wright and Braxton Jones looked really good in the Reps that they had during the preseason they looked really good in practice as well so it seems that Ryan poles and the Chicago Bears have their left and right tackle of the future and that's obviously where it starts but now let's look at the depth of the Chicago Bears offensive line and I think this is what Ryan poles was insinuating during his press conference this is why he was firing back at the critics saying you know the Bears offensive line is gonna hold this offense back I think the de is really special for this group this year of course you have Ryan Bates Doug Kramer really excited about him um Karan amagazi as well um Karan is still working back but the expectation from Ryan poles in the Chicago Bears that this kid um can be special for his Bears offensive line and he could possibly be a starter as soon as this year but definitely next year I expect Karan amagazi to be a starter for his offensive line and of course Matt Pryor and Bill Murray also had really good preseason for the Chicago Bears offensive line once again this goes back to me saying a couple of weeks ago that it was going to be really hard to make this football team um overall the Bears offensive line during the preseason looked really good I want to bring up another stat from last season from this bear offensive line because we gave this Bears o line a whole lot of crap um obviously when you look last season the Bears QBs were sacked 50 times between Justin fields and Tyson bent but the o line was only credited for 26 of those sacks so that's actually a pretty good number for the offensive line um so obviously Tyson Bas and especially Justin Fields caused a lot of those sacks um so for me when I look at that stat and I say okay so the Bears offensive line only allowed 26 sack last season that's a really good number um for that Bears offensive line you fast forward to this year's preseason in four games um only allowed one sack in to 10 total pressures that's obviously really good and then you could even go further than that in the 2023 preseason Bears fans only allowed two sacks and 22 pressures so what when I look at this Bears offensive line and what Ryan P was able to do with this group I definitely see Improvement you know we we we can sit here and say Ryan didn't build an elite group but I think this group deserves more credit from analysts from critics um than than what we're giving them right of course they still have to play they still have to prove themselves and of course they have to stay healthy um and just like Ryan Paul says of course you want your your Five Guys to remain healthy but if those guys go down I am confident for the first time in a long time that a guy like Bill Murray Matt Pryor um Karan amagazi Doug Kramer or even Ryan Bates can step in and be a quality starter for this Bears offensive line This Bears offense um wouldn't actually miss a beat so once again this is GNA be the biggest storyline going into that week week one matchup against the Tennessee Titans Titans is can this Bears offensive line carry its weight and I think personally when you're looking at this offensive line going back to the stat from last season only giving up 26 sacks and of course it's said 50 sacks but only giv up 26 of them now you have a quarterback in cayb Williams that by his play will actually help this Bear's offensive line be successful um so for me personally I definitely agree with Ryan poles he's proud for what he did um and building this off offens line in the last couple years but this is a really um you know really good group that I think we need to give more credit once again they need to prove it onto the field um but my expectation is not super high for this group this year um but this is a group that I feel like can come in and as long as they can stay healthy that starting five um can really turn some heads and really take this Bears offense to the next level so my question for you guys Bears fans on today's episode of key on the mic is what is your expectation for the Bears offensive line this season how many sacks do you think they will allow on quarterback Caleb Williams I think if they can allow that same number as last year maybe in the 20 to 26 range I think that would be a really good year um for this Bears offensive line and I think they have the potential to be a top 15 unit I don't want to put them at the top 10 unit I still want to see them play but I think they have the potential as long as they can stay healthy and I'm find that continuity of playing together I think this has the potential of being a top 15 unit this year and I think that would be perfect um for this Bears uh offense as a whole so once again what is your expectation for the Bears o line this season once again we are one week from Chicago Bears football and once again I will
