Predictions For The Arkansas vs Oklahoma State Game

welcome back to that heartbreak Hogs podcast how are we doing today Sid we are doing amazing we got the Oklahoma State game coming up I'm watching the Chiefs game right now Thursday Night Football can't get any better yep yep hey man I'm excited for this game coming up I'm glad that we won 70 to zero it was it was closer to my pick than it was to yours which is always a good thing um our weekly picks or top weekly matchups not mine were not as good as your yeah and then some some that we picked both of us Pi they didn't end up being right either so LSU sure uh sure made us look bad and Georgia did what they were supposed to so that was good Florida woo boy were we wrong oh man so I mean if we had great predictions we would not be on this podcast talk we wouldn't be artbreak Hogs fans either honestly but he man we're we're trying to change the narrative around here with that we break the other team's heart just like uapb oh oh too soon n not for uapb they they were expecting it yeah all right well let's take a look at these uh Oklahoma State pokes so let's let's see uh what they're about over here you let the jack rabbit score 20 points on you dang they didn't win 70 to zero oh dang I better not I better not jinx us but yeah yeah so let's see here so Oklahoma State they had 500 total yards 510 they had 320 passing 190 rushing so it it it kind of looks similar to what Arkansas was doing the the passing rushing ratio and I'm interested to see how how their defense did so their pass defense they they allowed 250 pass yards from the jack rabbits which is about half of no sorry not half of but a little bit less than what they had passing yards which is that's interesting um and then they had about half the rushing yards that Oklahoma state has which is understandable olly Gordon stud um yeah he looked great so I was watching some of their stuff earlier today and just to go over it before um this video and yeah no he he's legit he's very legit um I'm interested to see who has a better game jindon Jackson or olly Gordon and I I'm not I'm not putting jindon at the same level as Gordon that's not what I'm doing here all right I I I I just want to see I'm curious because Oklahoma State I mean they didn't let a whole lot of rush yards but as we were talking earlier and I I can pull it up here real quick um Arkansas allowed seven rushing yards I know it's uapb before anybody gathers their pitchforks at me um I know it's uapb but sometimes you know some of these smaller games can kind of tell you a little bit about what you're going to expect the rest of the season sometimes they don't but maybe here and yeah so that's that's interesting to me that just kind of the the the differences in the defense um it is interesting that's a lot of passing yards that they allowed and I know the jack rabbits are probably a primarily passing team and they're a decent team and let's see let's see what the passing yards were for uapb 120 so uapb had about half the passing yards um first downs 18 the jack rabbits had versus 28 by um Oklahoma State so that's significantly better Oklahoma State pretty much dominated this game um they looked really good the jack rabbits were obviously better than uapb so I do Wonder it's like I wonder if the jack rabbits would have been able to score that much on the Arkansas defense as we were kind of talking about on our Arkansas breakdown of last week it it's interesting to me that Arkansas shut out uapb but did not force any turnovers and I'm wondering is that something that's going to show up later of Arkansas in the past and Sam Pitman teams always forced turnovers in the first couple games they were often leading turnovers early in the season in the nation so that's really interesting to me that we go to no turnovers still a fantastic finish by the Hogs but that that interests me and I wonder if that's maybe kind of showing things to come on the defensive side of the ball for the Hogs no I agree um I mean listen the first game for both these teams are are about a walk in the park and and this will be a true matchup and to see how Arkansas reacts and how how Arkansas is able to control this game and how um Oklahoma State even um see how we're able to deal with them how they're able to move against the Jack craits against uapb these games they're what if almost games um what if we did this um we scored 70 against them but what if we scored 70 against Bama too because we did this I I don't that's not going to happen um yeah that's a good point and and so I think this this Saturday it will we'll see if that seven yards that you discuss us if we're able to even hold a fraction of that against a running back a top running back in the nation like OE Gordon um and like you said I mean so you're saying holding him to so he had 100 or they had 190 total rushing yards last game is are you saying like less than aund of that statistic a fraction like that statistic if I mean he had aund whatever or yards you I don't think he specifically had that I think that was the whole team um 104 yards and two touchdowns right so um if we're able to um hold them back again from pushing that line from from getting first downs on first downs and from let having them controlling the game and having them pass more um that think that's what we need to do I mean if if they're If he if they're just come out on top and they're just passing and they they're well ahead of course he's going to get they're just going to use running use him for running and and to close out the game he's just going to continue getting those yardage so I'm not saying that I think if we come out on top if we're our offense is is um pushing the field and we're able to get no turnovers get touchdowns and match them beat for beat our defense I think can show up and uh our defense I think can can hold him if um if our offense is there and and in keeping up with they just can't be on the field the whole time you know against uapb we can we can let them run as many times as they want they're not going to run on us yeah but our defense will eventually get tired with trying to stop a running back like OE Gordon and that that this team so a solid offensive line you know exactly and so it's how often we can use our running back J Quin and and how we can we can use the time to our advantage and push the field um slowly at a time and and kind of control that momentum to get their defense tired um and have our defense be take breathers and take um um just be ready to go when they are out there um we'll be we'll be key in um stopping this team and and coming out on top yeah well I think uh preseason our preseason picks didn't you picked a l on this game right you picked Oklahoma State taking the the win I got it right here actually um I had a 3128 us losing by three and um last I saw the the spread was 7 and a half um for this game um and us being underdogs and I think after after watching us play last week I I think we can definitely cover that spread and I think yeah um it's going to come down to the end um and I still I think I'm after the first game it's smoking mirrors um you can't can't get your hopes up too high um I hope they prove me wrong in this this game and in that 3128 because I believe you had had them winning this game um and by a decent amount too right um so what do you feel about it now I had the hog scoring in the 60s on my prediction I think it was like 63 to 6 or something like that or 63 to three so I wasn't too surprised that we scored a bunch of points now I was surprised that we went 10 for 10 and this was with a running clock this was my prediction without knowing that we were going to do 10-minute second second half quarters so they actually did better than I expected even though score-wise it was fairly close to that um and I really liked seeing that I know it's uapb but I liked that we kept them in the single digits yards per carry um The Rush attack for uapb and I think that that might translate to this a little bit now I'm not saying that we hold Oklahoma State to single yard you know single digit yards but I think that we could hold them enough to control this game and I mean I'm just going to keep saying it Oklahoma State they dropped some weird games and you can get them early and I just the only thing though is is they will wake up for this one because Arkansas scored 70 it Oklahom mate knows don't sleep on these guys I don't think they're afraid of Arkansas but I I know that they're not going to be sleeping on them um and also that whole SEC thing Oklahoma State didn't get invited to the SEC they lost their rivalry with Oklahoma or that rivalry game with Oklahoma they wanted to keep that and they did not get an invite to the SEC so they may have a little bit of anger towards Arkansas for hey we deserve to be in the SEC not these bums if you will I'm not you know yeah and so we we got to make sure as hog you know the Hogs got to show up and they got to be ready for that because the crowd's going to show up for Oklahoma State I mean they're going to they're going to show up for this game especially again after Arkansas put up 70 they're not afraid of Arkansas but they're excited for Arkansas and that's the Arkansas won't catch them sleeping I don't think and originally I kind of thought that they were um orig usually I was like okay maybe this may be like a sneaker like uh the South Alabama sneak you know where you just completely caught Oklahoma State sleeping I don't think that happens tomorrow but I still have the Hogs winning um I just I think it's different with patrino at the offensive as offensive coordinator and even though the defense did not force any turnovers last week I do think that they're solid and I think that they're going to have a game plan ready to control Oly Gord enough to control this game I don't think we shut them out I think that Oklahoma State still puts up probably three scores so 17 24 or 20 21 something like that maybe four scores maybe into the low 20s of points but I just Oklahoma State secondary looked a little suspect against the jack rabbits man the jack rabbits have you still got 217 with Arkansas winning right no no no I I think it was thir something to 20s something no just an updated prediction let's go with the updated prediction after I'm saying like 38 to [Music] 24 okay something like that yeah 38 to 24 I still think I think that Arkansas is just going to torch him offensively the secondary looked weak I mean this was something that I kind of predicted last year whenever Washington played Texas everybody was taking Texas in that game and I said dude you guys are not seeing how bad that or how weak that Texas secondary can be and pinx is gonna just wipe them up and that's exactly what happened so I see that similar thing happening here I think Bobby's going to just wipe them up on uh their secondary at least and then is going to come in and do the same thing the secondary worried me a little bit with the UAP at a time at at early on um where right um so they are need they're going to have to step up um our secondary is it cannot let those deep balls get get get caught and cannot let a easy break uh easy Play Break Out on the opposite end Jaylen green right um if he is going to throw the ball deep he's going to have to he's going to have to be almost cautious but I don't want to say fully cautious because he still needs to he still needs to make those decisions and I think the more the more that he gets to do that um the more confident than he'll get so I think Jaylen green um is just going to have to show us that he he can make the right decisions with less with more pressure and um and get the ball down the field um whether I know we saw his his footwork and he can definitely make that happen in in a when they're coming but make the right decision throwing can he um it's in Still Water too with that crowd I mean that's got to come into effect too right um I know man I think he can he's going to have some times to escape like on a third down or a broken play or I I think he can and in our offensive line it looks better um I I just do but I agree with you 100% on I'm not super sold on our defense I know we blinked you know uapb but you know you counted that score or or that you know where the run where the quarterback ran out of bounds threw a deep ball and it was a touchdown but he was out B barely out right um and we're like we're counting that and it it's something to take note of and yeah I that is the thing and that's why I'm saying I think Oklahoma State scores it's just I don't think they can stop us I just and I don't want to jinx it so knock on wood you know we don't want you know yeah we we want that to happen but I just their secondary looked suspect against the jack rabbits and if the jack rabbits can have those big throwing plays against Oklahoma State oh Bobby's gonna have a field day so I mean we'll see we don't know like you said we're just guessing we're we're guessing scenarios this is this is all guessing game yeah we saw a scrimmage and yeah so Arkansas fans travel well I know there'll be a lot of them at in still water but um this this will be a test for for um for Jaylen green and and this this this this team and and having it being in that environment um and a true test and seeing how how they're able to perform if we're if we're starting off with the ball and we come out hot I think we I think we can keep it up and M keep the momentum going for sure the whole game I I think as soon as it lets down that's what I need to that's what I'm going to have to see in terms of are we able to get back in it are we able to um keep keep R in that dog fight and and move the ball and use jindon to um make plays and use Jen green to get get the ball down the field um quickly yeah yeah um and and like you pointed out Jaylen or taen sorry taen Under Pressure we we haven't seen that yet and Oklahoma state is good enough now I think their secondary can get torched but they are good enough to cause pressure and it'll be up to Jaylen Talen I don't know why I keep saying Jaylen I think I said a few times too our bad T but yeah yeah no disrespect bro we're rooting see few more games out of you yeah yeah yeah exactly if anything we're rooting for you but anyway yeah so he's going to get pressured and we just need to see if you get pressured and you stay calm and you do your thing you will have options you will have wide receivers open and you will have opportunities to make big plays it's just up to you to stay calm stay poised and do what Bobby says because again I I saw a lot of holes in that secondary and I just listened to shout out to Trey bidy with hog Sports definitely check out local Arkansas media we're always here to support him other podcasts too but uh I was listening to him and so every now and then Trey has beat riders for the other team that we're playing and so he one of the question he asked was what is something that you guys biggest fear that you guys came into the season with and do you still have that fear and what he was talking about is the secondary and what he was saying is that that was kind of his biggest fear in Fall camp and then when he saw the game it didn't help with his fear of the secondary they still looked very vulnerable so again I'm going to stick with that I think that Arkansas has the potential potential of scoring a lot of points against this secondary and because of that I think that they're going to I think our defense is solid enough to slow Oklahoma State down enough where Oklahoma state will score but we're going to score a good amount more I need to see I need to see Bobby smile like he did after that game uapb he's got to bring in the shades dude he's got to bring in the shades again if we're not up by two scores with this game we're not going to see that smile um and that's going to be until the game's over after the game over um and I'd love to see it I'd love to see um that Bobby smile again um and and keep it rolling so let's see how let's see how this um weekend goes and I hope I hope you're right and um we annihilate them but this is our true test and um we are going to find out how they're able to do against a um a matchup that um we underdogs in even um with the seven and a half points um so yeah um yeah yeah and it does sound like I'm pretty confident for a game that we're we were we started as as ninepoint dogs so or nine ninepoint under Hogs so um but yeah I mean I I still am I mean knock on wood I don't I don't want to jinx anything but um and hats off to if if you know if my prediction is way off hats off to Oklahoma State um for doing a good job and being prepared that's just my uh that's my prediction I think that it's going to be 38 to 24 I think the Hogs just they're just going to have too much too much octane in their offense and Oklahoma State just won't be able to keep up I also think that Landon Jackson has a better game it's not that he played bad against uapb he quietly had a good game so like he was a force but it it wasn't like a celebrity you know force in there so I think that he gets a a little bit more attention next week and I think that he does record a sack and maybe I know I thought he did decently well actually um I I liked what I was seeing from him um but he wasn't he wasn't like a highlight reel or anything yeah but but he did his job and and that was was good so I'm not I'm not over here crapping on him or anything um I just think that he does more I think that he's gonna have a little bit of a highlight reel next um next week and I think that he's gonna because there are some people calling him out saying they didn't really see him enough and I think that's that's not really fair but I think he has a better game um so or even I mean as long as he does his job yeah and um the job being done is as good as it was last week yeah I know it was uapb but if it's still as good against Oklahoma State as last week I think that's a successful job and not even a success that's outstanding job now I know you're saying that we need to see more out of him and that's completely Fair um but I think this defense just just needs to just needs to stay confident work together and um instead of trying to record personal sacks try to get just just make sure you're working together to um get the get the team sack almost not the not the personal personal goal um and if we do that I think we will be as good as we were last week yeah oh man I'm so stoked I'm so ready for this game man there's a couple games on my radar but yeah I mean this weekend I can't wait us wait for us to play real competition you know no offense to uapb our hearts will not be broken yeah we're changing the narrative around here we'll break we're breaking those pokes hearts so all right well I guess with that uh we'll see you guys next week hopefully after a victory big DB yes sir so I guess with that heartbreak hogs out see you
