Chiefs Sign Samaje Perine, Claim Eric Scott + MULTIPLE Players To Practice Squad | KC Chiefs News

[Music] it's been a busy day for your Kansas City Chiefs let's break it all down for you here on this edition of the Kansas City Chiefs report Tyler Jones here with you as we're talking waiver wire practice squad and updates to the 53 man roster here on today's show let's begin with Sam py as the chief signed the former Denver Broncos running back to the active 53 man roster joining the likes of poo and Clyde Edwards at Lair as well as Carson steel Sam JP Ryan a former fourth route pick out of the University of Oklahoma most notably known in his career for what he did against my Kansas Jayhawk setting the NCAA single game rushing record for 427 yards and you look back at his career with the Bengals the Dolph the commanders the Broncos uh among other teams he's been a journeyman of sorts and his statistics not anything too flashy of what he's done as of late four and a half yards a carry last year one touchdown the year prior to that 4.1 yards per carry and two touchdowns but the thing that stood out to samaj Pine of why he ends up in Kansas City and why he was looked at by several teams is he has evolved as a pass catcher and he's been able to show off his pass catching ability and that's what was attractive to Andy Reid and Brett fech of why they made this move to ultimately bring Pete Ry in and add him to this backfield here in Kansas City but that wasn't the only move the Kansas City Chiefs made on Wednesday as they claimed Corner Eric Scott Jr off of the waiver wire formerly of the Dallas gal boys and will'll be on the active 53 Med roster for the Kansas City Chiefs we're still waiting to see what the corresponding moves are with these two players going to the active roster of who ultimately will be released and potentially moved to the practice squad but this move provides some depth in The Corner Room which has some questioned marks for the Kansas City Chiefs entering 2024 and it's also a homecoming for Eric Scott Jr the former 6 throut pick out of Southern Miss is a native of baser Kansas just outside of Kansas City he attended Butler Community College there in the witcha area and was a preseason standout last year for the Cowboys this preseason had a 62.8 coverage grade by Pro Football Focus and the thing that really stands out is that he is a freak athlete the guy is a freak of nature and when I saw this news that the Kansas City Chiefs were bringing some somebody in from baser that uh was from that area I phoned my buddy Zack fiser who is from that area he's a TV anchor and reporter in De Mo Iowa for Who TV and I asked Zach I said do you know anything about this guy and he said not only do I know some things about this guy he was my nextdoor neighbor growing up and this is what Zach had to tell me with some firsthand details and Analysis on Eric Scott Jr long lengthy always has been raw but he's become more refined freak athlete which is why he was drafted he was dunking at an early age Geron mcferson who played at Kansas state was really good buddies with him and he went on to say that his dad helped him take a big step and Eric would do athletic things that would make you just scratch your head that's what he was able to bring the table so he's been quite the player for uh some time there so appreciate Zach my fellow KU brethren for giving me those insights there the traits seem to all be there when it comes to Eric Scott Jr for what he brings to the table Lance zerline of NFL media had this to say on his Scouting Report when he was coming out from the draft Scott's size and explosiveness will immediately jump out to NFL teams the traits are nice but the agility and fluidity are major concerns as it pertains to staying connected to routes as a b Defender Scott seeks out playmaking opportunities and has the attributes needed to win 50-50 challenges but he needs to play in zone heavy looks and become a more well-rounded run Defender so there you have it uh two different perspectives there from somebody that saw him grow up and somebody that scouted him in the National Football League what is your one-word reaction to the chief signings today my one word is intrigued I'll be honest I didn't see these coming today what's your one word let us know in the comments section below when news breaks out we break in here the ks City Chiefs report as we bring you daily roster reveal uh yesterday in players cut sent to waivers Curtis Jacobs got claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots uh also ree Amit our favorite former rugby player he's off to Jacksonville and we already have an idea of some of the practice squad players that are now going to be on the canity Chiefs roster and also could potentially be elevated to the 53 man roster at some point this year those names include ammani Bailey at the running back position Dion Bush at the safety spot although Justin Ross did not make the 53b roster he'll get another chance on the practice squad and a guy that came so close that's been given an opportunity after opportunity I would think that there's a decent chance we see him elevated at some point this year uh Nico also getting another chance as well Nico had a very good training camp he came very close this battle wages on between these two when an injury happens who gets that call up will it be Justin will it be Nico that remains to be seen let's ask you who's the first practice squad player that will get their name called that'll get elev to the active roster here in 2024 way in the comments section give me a name that comes to mind who do you think that's going to be for Kansas City Today's Show is sponsored by game time game time is the place to go for the best seats the lowest prices guaranteed last minute tickets game time's got time is it game time you will be glad you did couple more names to watch CJ Hansen also added to the practice squad uh to add some depth to the offensive line and this was the real shocker of all folks of the practice squad bayy zappy is headed to Kansas City the former New England Patriots starting quarterback started about half the season last year after M Jones went down and started some as a rookie he shown some flashes but I I got to tell you this one I did not see coming but I don't think it's a bad idea at all and if something happens to Patrick Mahomes or Carson Wentz I think bayy zappy you get him in that system how Andy Reed operates and how the Chiefs do things he's good enough that if there's an injury he can be your number two quarterback potentially and get that elevation to the active roster and be ready if his name is called I think that's a very smart move and there's nobody better with comes to working with quarterbacks the Andy Reid if bayy Zapp is going to work as a backup somewhere it's going to be in Kansas City Cole Christensen also making his return at the linebacker position as well so there you have it that's what we know so far to this point how would you grade the Chiefs practice squad abcdf way in the comments section tell us what you think of the Chiefs practice squad thanks for joining us here on the channel subscribe now for the latest
