Thank you for joining us tonight at 11. I'm Dana Smith. We start in Newport News where loved ones are remembering a man shot to death near the city's east end tonight. Neighbors held a candlelight vigil for Marvin Jackson. Stephanie Johnson joins us in the studio to share his impact on the community. Stephanie and Dana. It was a very sad night. Neighbors remember Marvin Jackson as a good man who looked out for everyone in his neighborhood and now so many are left shocked by his death. We gonna miss you. We love you. It's not gonna be the same out here. Sadness filled the air Friday evening as neighbors gathered to say goodbye to Marvin Jackson. I grew up with him for years. Many years, many years, I grew under him. You know what I'm saying? So it was on Monday night, someone tragically shot Jackson at the intersection of 31st Street in Roanoke Avenue, just two blocks away from where his memorial now sits. Medics rushed Jackson to the hospital where he later died. Talesha Dixon says she spoke to Jackson just a few days before he was killed because you wouldn't think that that would have been his outcome because he was nice to everybody. He was loving, he had a huge heart. He just made sure everybody around him was good from adults to kids, to dogs. It didn't matter who he was now, Dixon and other neighbors question why someone would wanna hurt him. He gave you the T shirt off his back. It didn't matter what it was. Marvin just was always there for everybody. So for somebody to do this to him, it's just, it is not right so far, police have not arrested anyone for Jackson's death for now. Candles and messages surround this fence and everyone from the oldest to the youngest has one wish. I hope they catch those people. And the motive behind the shooting is not clear at this point. Newport News. Police are still investigating this incident.
