just about set to go getting the nod in this one Grant Holman what's the scouting report on him well this guy's just been filthy out there on the mound hitters batting under 200 against him and they're just having a hard time squaring up anything doing any type of damage the only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surrenders a rare home run but outside of that it's going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today all right ready to go here and now Matt verling looking for his first big league hit right here the pitch that one not close and that's ball two right through there for a strike righty delivers and a foul ball he's dealing with a great two- strike hitter right here the strikeout is not automatic swings through it and that's a strike out and that's the first strike out of his major league career and it could be the first of many if he meets the goals he's set for himself and the expectations others have for him he doesn't want to just win games he wants to dominate at this level do you think Young pitchers could sometimes get too caught up in trying to rack up KS early in their career boo I think they can it's kind of like a hitter that doesn't have power The Thrill is still hitting a ball over the fence and so for a guy even if he doesn't have power stuff or strikeout stuff a strikeout is still something that makes him stick his chest out a little bit further and fires in a fast ball at 95 not even close there and it's two and one right-hander kick deals fast ball for a strike back toback fast balls in that last one called for a strike probably go away but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off cuts and misses it's a strike out came inside with that two- strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate couldn't get around on it and catch it out front many times if you do it's a foul ball and you know a lot of pitchers they really don't like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter and when they've got him up against the ropes got to figure out a way to put him away did a nice job right there two out space is empty swings and misses that's strike one on the line base hit now he'll turn for second the throw in and he's out cut down and that ends the inning it's the Tigers nothing A's coming up Major League Baseball is on the [Applause] show and we're back and towing the slab in this one Casey M Chris you don't have to dig too deep into the numbers to see how good he's been oh he's been nearly Untouchable kind of a Silent Assassin out there just goes to work and guys look up it's deep into the ball game and they haven't been able to scratch anything off of this guy so look for him to do the same thing today maybe Go the Distance maybe hand it over to the bullpen at the end and try to get that W Lawrence Butler leading things off and takes a strike Butler starting as the designated hitter hitting lead off in today's game and he was a sixth round draft pick back in 2018 [Applause] smoked on the ground a second one gone bottom half of the [Applause] first take a look at the lineup singy we're looking at a really young lineup here so not much experience but it also means they're going to bring a lot of energy to the table most days well we're in a golden age of young players I mean these players they're getting up to the majors they're dominating from a young age bringing home plenty of Hardware early in their careers I mean before they even get to free agency so you know when you consider all of that I love seeing the kind of energy that a team like this brings to the yard every day day in and day out one down base is empty swing in a line drive slicing into right field no trouble here puts it away for the out and there's down it was all over that fast ball right there I tell you what if he gets under it just by a fraction of an inch or a little bit more that's way back trying to pick up his first knock in the big [Applause] leagues and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter next offering is in for a strike leftand hitter waights foul ball still o and two and there's a ball pretty standard High 02 fastball right there if you're smart you'll look for something down in the zone but not too far don't want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt and he deals still two and two after the foul ball two outs just missed wow this guy's really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run I love his tenacity [Applause] ninth pitch of the atat do next that one lifted to left Malloy sizes this one up makes the catch that is the inning scoreless after one back in Oakland New inning getting started now here's the Tigers cleanup hitter Justin Henry Malloy he's got pop which is a little sneaky because he's so comfortable with taking his base hits to the opposite field but he can jump you if you make a mistake hullman back to work just off the Inside Edge well he's so great about hitting the ball the other way he gets those arms extended so right there just trying to straighten him up a little bit so he doesn't have as much outside PL coverage Rusty Valentine calling balls and Strikes book something I hear from hitters about Valentine is they know they don't have to protect off the plate too much in two strike counts and that can be a big deal in terms of your confidence and seeing some pitches in that at bat next offering misses and that's ball three right through there for a strike and boy that was the pitch 3-1 you want to be really aggressive on the fast ball hit hard that gets through solo Runner aboard to start the inning Justin Henry Malloy with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get here and now the catcher comes up to him Jake Rogers here goes the runner that's ripped and this one could be extra bases Malloy round second on his way to third headed for the plate in comes the first run of the game it's one- nothing Tigers so he gets two Milestones with that hit his first big league knock and he drives in his first run as well yeah you love to get both of those out of the way with just one swing of the bat and it makes the special moment even more special it's not just an individual accomplishment when you're also driving in a run for your team that's an it bad he's never going to forget Spencer Tolson up now for the [Applause] Tigers and that's off the Inside Edge and that's ball one [Applause] man it's second lined into left Center and that should be extra bases the Run comes in from second it's two nothing and that's a double so he gets two Milestones with that hit his first big league knock and he drives in his first run as well yeah you love to get both of those out of the way with just one swing of the bat and it makes the special moment even more special it's not just an individual accomplishment when you're also driving in a run for your team that's an it bad he's never going to forget Colt Keith up now for the [Applause] Tigers that Clips the inside corner for a [Applause] strike tlon at second with nobody out [Applause] and a foul [Applause] [Applause] ball there's a swing and a [Applause] drive and one hops Off the Wall should be extra bases the Run comes in from second it's three zip so he gets two milestone with that hit his first big league knock and he drives in his first run as well yeah you love to get both of those out of the way with just one swing of the bat and it makes the special moment even more special it's not just an individual accomplishment when you're also driving in a run for your team that's an IT bat he's never going to forget and now the short stop Ryan [Applause] kler in the air center field on his way over drops into the glove grounder tags at second and he's in safely at third with one out Parker so man aboard Parker Meadows up now for the [Applause] Tigers a bit behind with that swing it's strike one just a bit tardy there not sure if he had a hard time picking it up out of the hand or if he was sitting off speed and the pitch fou back ourway and that's out of play and the O2 and that one upstairs and the pitch got him looking and there's two away just locked him up right there for the second out and that's an a bat he's probably going to be thinking about for a little while didn't pull the trigger not you want to go down in an RBI spot so now you got to hope your teammate behind you can pick you up and there's one thing on his mind this at bat getting that first hit at the big league level here's a rip to short but he's there for the third out three runs on four hits no errors and one left on now to the bottom of the second it's the Tigers three and the A's nothing and welcome back to the ballpark now at the plate Seth Brown the pitch drips one to right Ian settles under it and makes the catch one down the second Zack gell will hit next right through there for a strike though the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count he cannot afford to go deep into counts doesn't have a ton of swing and Miss stuff so he's going to have to work efficiently one down base is empty and a strike in there looks like a really good fast ball today you can hear that catcher mitt popping looking forward to hearing a lot of that one in this one pitch in the dirt now two and [Applause] two stays alive and the righty deals that's down and in really good take especially with two strikes payoff pitch swing and a miss got him to go up the ladder for the K thought it was a pretty good pitch top of the strike zone we're seeing more fast balls in that location hitters especially with two two strikes have to be ready to pull the trigger Kyle mccan in the Box here lets that one go for a ball two down nobody on and a good eye there two outs up the middle sneaks through Bas head Kyle mccan with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you've worked to get here so two down here's the third [Applause] baseman and first off ring is fouled off kicks andand deal and that one fouled [Applause] off next offering misses down and away and another ball swing and a Fly ball in the air out towards right center field and that'll fall for a base hit and now they'll have Runners on the corners with two away the first Tristan gray the next to hit first pitch and he just misses Corners are occupied with two [Applause] down right through there for a strike [Applause] next offering is in for a [Applause] strike struck him out looking so they strand a pair we head on now to the top of the third it's the Tigers three and the A's nothing back here in the East Bay top half of the third inning now it's the right fielder Andy Aban as he turns on the rubber here with that good live arm delivers just missed been a rough start on the mount for this guy this third inning so important for him to get on track Turn the Page settle in do all those things you need to do to give your team a little bit of l in this one lace down the line could be extra bases around first and hustling for second and his first big league hit as a double Andy aan with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you've worked to get here so a man aboard now it's the DH Riley green check swing he went too far and it's a strike kicks and fires pitch misses there one and one Ian leads off second with nobody [Applause] out F off foul man it's second swing and a miss struck him out not what you're looking for after the lead off double a strike out and there's one away he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little anxious and next up for the Tigers Justin Henry Malloy in there at the knees it's 0 and one when you're struggling out there on the mound hitters know that there'll be plenty of opportunities within the abbat to try to get something to hit [Applause] hard the one and ball one [Applause] swing and a Tapper throws the first in time and now it's going to be Jake Rogers one for one with a double and a run score a swing and a miss as he chases way out of the zone two outs that one ripped runner from third comes across and it's four nothing and it hits the fence pulls into second that's an RBI double maned scored position with two away Spencer Tolson up now for the Tigers a double and a run scored his first time up way high there one [Applause] and0 man on second two down he swings and fouls one off and a pitch and another ball looks like he's being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up doesn't want to make another mistake next pitch is outside one run acrossing the frame so far we're here in the top half of inning number three payoff pitch in the air right side Rooker going back on this one hauls it in to end the inning Tigers grab one on this RBI double it's now a 4 nothing ball game set for the bottom of the third striding to the plate now for Oakland Jacob Wilson Wilson the right hander back to four there's a strike dangerous spot for that slider right there didn't seem to quite finish out front and get that sharp break tell you what he doesn't want to throw that pitch again ball one there the wine of the pitch out towards right center field and it drops in and that turns the lineup over Jacob Wilson with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you worked to get here back to the top of the lineup next is the designated hitter Lawrence Butler that one ripped but foul the Athletics down by four here in the last half of the third to short could be two one it second on the first out double play just got it there in time got what he was looking for on the mound right there and his infielders took care of business pretty textbook execution between short and second to turn that into two outs next up for the A's Brent Rooker 0 for one so far just missed [Applause] that one misses ball two two down nobody on swing and a ball hit out towards left center field Malloy makes the catch and that will end the inning back in Oakland out of the fourth now it's the second baseman Colt Keith Kei in his rookie season 22 years old and he was a fifth round pick in 2020 well these Tigers doing a great job boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I'm seeing very patient ADV bats out of them pitch count is pretty high and they played four runs already so I think it's safe to say their game plan is working out pretty well right now wasting no time he's two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle seriously we're starting with this already man at first Ryan kridler up now for the Tigers the short stop takes the ball so they forced the starter to put in a lot of work and they've been able to get to him for some runs and hopefully that Bullpen phone is working today nobody out runner at first [Applause] foul [Music] ball throw to first Keith Dives back in safely righty to the plate rolled to short could be two Wilson toss to second on the first double play well almost anytime you roll over and send a two ball to short at this level you can pretty much count on a double play middle infielders are just so reliable and they work on these plays all the time so it almost becomes like second nature and now the center fielder Parker Meadows that one a 95 missed up top ball one right through there for a [Applause] strike that one is absolutely belted way back there that one Ops against the fence and he's got a double Parker Meadows with his first major league hit and this is the moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard youve worked to get here so the batting order turns over now down the third baseman Matt verling that one fouled off Meadows at second with two [Applause] down next offering is down low [Applause] the one- one is fouled off swings through that one it's a strike out one left for Detroit but they're in front for nothing ready to go for the last half of the inning this is JJ blade here comes a pitch just off the Inside Edge he's been pitching well but going through this middle of the order second time through we'll see what kind of adjustments are being made hit in the air center field Meadows gets under it makes the grab one down the left so here's Brown at the plate he's over [Applause] one and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter the 02 swing and a base hit so man aboard now with one away Seth Brown with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you worked to get here digging in for Oakland Zack gell he was a strikeout victim his first time and that's downstairs and outside man at first one away inside just missed well he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat [Applause] strikeout at the belt and fires hammers that one deep left field and forget it and they slice into the lead it's 4-2 he just sparked this home crowd in a big way what a [Applause] swing that one was a hanger and pitchers typically don't get away with making a mistake like that and right there he made him pay so one out nobody on and now here's the A's catcher Kyle mccan no question about this one it's out of here a gigantic blast his first Homer of the year it's 43 he only needed one swing to square it up not wasting any time in that at bat boo aggressive and it paid off [Applause] back-to-back homers always a special feeling at the Ballpark especially if it's your team that does it and those guys get to slap hands at home plate this is the kind of thing that can really fire up a ball Club [Applause] one down here's the third baseman this one in the air right field and he makes the catch two away [Applause] now now first striding to the plate now for Oakland Tristan [Applause] gray right through there for a strike [Applause] one next offering is downstairs the A's down by a run we're here in the bottom of the fourth popped up to the left into foul ground near the fence oh he brought it back but two round Trippers in this inning the long ball was working and the home team down a run and we're back ready now for the fifth inning and now the right fielder Andy Aban the pitch line drive base hit man aboard on the leadoff single here's Riley green one for [Music] two oh he doesn't get the call and it's want to know well these Tigers digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they're taking everything seems to be clicking and the six extra base hits in the game kind of tells you everything you need to know they're not getting fooled up there at all left hand batter weights that one off the mark and the count is two and0 and there's a foul ball the count two and one good eye right there that one hammered center field leay raging back towards the wall Dives but it falls and now it looks like extra bases around third the throw is offline and he's in to score it's 53 well when you fall behind in the count you've got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there manager out of the Dugout now and it looks like we'll see a change on the mound Grant Holman gives way two run ball game as he heads for The Dugout and we'll be back with a new pitcher new arm out of the bullpen Joey on for his major league debut and a moment he will never forget better believe that it's always so special the first time you get into a big league ball game I did it as a position player but for him as a pitcher I'm sure there's some nerves there probably don't want to squeeze the baseball too tight just relax and do what you're capable of doing next to hit Justin Henry Malloy turned on but that's foul down the third Baseline the one swing and a miss and that strike two another 02 count right here pitcher just in the driver's seat he can go anywhere he wants to go right [Applause] here that misses the zone and the count one and two runner in scoring position nobody out and we're in the top of the fif that one just missing inside and it's two and two close pitch there and he's kind of wondering where it missed you know getting a feel for each umpire strike zone is something that pitchers and hitters really have to think about and work on from game to game and sometimes from it bat to it bat and another ball recognize that change up right out of the hand just spit on it [Applause] up the middle gof tosses to first one away here in the fifth that's a good piece of hitting right there it's early but you still want to move the runner up and give your team a chance to score that's exactly what happened so you better believe your teammates are happy with you after that at bat Rogers into the box again takes a strike and there's a ball green takes his lead to third with one away here's a swing and a drive left field and he knew it his first Homer of the year and they boost their lead it's 73 singy the ball is jumping off his Bat yes it is tons of loud contact man it's been [Applause] impressive such an incredible swing right there on that breaking ball away did an incredible job of keeping the hands back letting it travel and boy he just hammered that recognized the break and man this guy kept his front foot down weight didn't transfer until the exact time an excellent Back Spin to carry it over the fence Bas is empty one away and now the first baseman Spencer Tolson swinging a foul straight back ground ball up the middle Wilson to First and they get Tolson for the out now second [Music] two outs Bas is empty here's the second baseman Colt Kei and first off ring is fouled off that one missed and that's awfully close I don't know how you take that he's seeing the ball out of the pitcher's hand really well right now two outs center field leay under it he makes the grab and that is that but they strike for three in the inning two on this this two-run home run it's now 73 you're watching Major League Baseball on the show and welcome back to the ballpark we head to the bottom of the fifth at the play Jacob Wilson M back to work just missed you know these A's doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side the numbers tell us they're averaging more than a hit every inning and they've only struck out twice so they keep finding ways to put their bat on the ball highfly ball shallow right field Devan makes the play and there's one away and now the D Lawrence Butler fast ball for a [Applause] strike the Tigers leading by four last half of inning number five got him swinging that's about as nasty of a splitter as you'll come across especially in terms of movement I mean that thing tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment if he keeps it down it's just so tough to put wood on Brent Rooker getting ready to hit outside low ball one the offense needs to start showing some fight against this starter he's doing his thing out there they're going to have to push back at some point and make him work a little bit harder and the slider just misses next pitch downstairs and now three and0 he hasn't fallen behind in the count like this all day he's in danger of walking his first batter right here that one finds the zone and the count is three and [Applause] [Applause] one and here it comes keeps theb back going with a foul [Applause] ball now this is in the air down the line on the Move makes the grab right on the warning track and that's the inning back here in the East Bay and the batter will be the short stop Ryan kler and a pitch there's the strike swings through that one out in front that time oh that's that slurf right there he threw it extremely well talk about just a ton of breaks so tough to get that Barrel to bounced out to short makes the sliding stop it's there and that's a great play well boo as an infielder you have to be ready for anything in that spot it required going to the ground getting a little dirty and making a strong throw for the out great play and next to hit for Detroit Parker Meadows that's in there and it's own and one one out Bas is empty next offering is in for a strike just misses the mark outside the Zone it's a good take on the ground to the left and that's just foul hit weakly on the ground two quick outs to open the top of the six back to the top of the Detroit order Matt verling up now for the [Applause] Tigers and first offering is fouled off two down nobody on now a pop up on the infield gray under it he's there he's got it and that's the third out offense held in check there hard of the order 345 coming up it's the Tigers seven and the A's three well we go bottom six digging in for Oakland JJ Bay the wi of the pitch and first off ring is fouled off the pitch and a foul [Applause] ball the next offering misses and it's one and two too close for me partner to take that 02 fast ball but for whatever reasons he Let It Go by he's still in the atat I don't think he'll let the next one go and now the count is even fouls that off to the left and will do it again the pitch line drop pulls it in for the out and there's one down here's the Oakland cleanup hitter Seth Brown that's in there and that is strike one right through there for a strike love how vocal the Umpire is today no doubt in the hitter's mind catcher mind and even the pitchers mind as to the conviction in the call B is empty one away here in the bottom of the six bounc to the right side a dive he's got it throws from the seat of his pants on the money nice play well he makes a great decision to go ahead and dive to stop that ball nice little flip to the pitcher covering those those pfps pitchers Fielding plays next up for the A's Zack [Applause] Gill and that's in for a [Applause] strike the pitch to third what a stop throw to first and very nicely done for the out well that's cat-like reflexes over there at the Hot Corner nice job of making that play and ending the inning and we're back and the batter now Andy abanes Estus back to work fast ball for a strike the Athletics have some Bullpen action Scott Alexander up and throwing number 40 the right-hander also getting loose and now the o01 right side Rooker should have this one calls it in and there's one away Riley and up next for Detroit Riley [Applause] green that pitch in for a strike going one on the ground right side throws the first in time Henry two outs Bas is empty Justin Henry Malloy up now for the Tigers one for three in there at the knees two down nobody on here at the top half of inning number seven I wouldn't say the game's close right now but it's not Out Of Reach either mean these pitchers really need to put up a zero on the board just to maintain a little hope and the pitch gets a piece and stays alive here's the 02 with chase that time up the middle and he knocks it down and they get the out after the Ricochet that's out number three tigers are shut down there but they still lead it 73 on the mound now number 73 and this is the best way to make your major league debut no one on base yeah you're already going to be a little nervous out there so I think it's a nice job by the skipper to get him in here without any added pressure with traffic on the bases as the Lefty gets to work and he swings and lifts one to deep center field that's back there forget it another another Homer his second home run of the game and they cut into the lead it's 74 things might get pretty interesting if they keep connecting on pitches like that welcome to the game first pitch out of the bullpen a tough one and you know he's just trying to get one in there for a strike and on the other side as a hitter it's a great time to be aggressive and Let It Fly it's not what they were looking for when they turned to him but now he's got to find a way to reset now the third baseman ground ball left side a dive nice stop throw off line he's safe and a nice job there to keep it from getting away oh that one right there had the looks of one of those plays of the weak great diving stop but he just couldn't set up to make a good throw maybe got a little too excited he was probably feeling it as well but either way that's a tough play and a tough error Tristan gray digs in now first pitch doesn't find the zone now these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here try to close that Gap but you know at the very least if you could find a way to to manufacture that run from first it feels like it's really important to getting back into this ball game next offering is in for a strike action in the pen down there Tyler Holton preparing to come on if needed brisky getting cranked up as well the Athletics trailing by three here the bottom of the seven check swing no appeal [Music] [Applause] next pitch is outside Chris with that distraction and the Speedy guy at first he's in a favorable hitter count well if nothing else I mean this is a great spot for a hitter to be in leftand hitter Waits the other way and a base hit throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out Tristan gray with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get here so digging in Jacob Wilson there's a [Applause] strike first and second here no [Applause] outs next pitch is downstairs way to lay off that pitch down [Applause] that's a base hit around third the throw home it's offline and he scores picks himself up in RBI nice line drive to the pull side right there but he didn't spin off of it that's the key you still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that number 48 will take over here on for his major league debut so we'll see if he's ready for the big stage he just has to remember this is the same game that he's played all the way through the minor leagues to this point the only difference there just more people in the stands and it's a bigger Stadium but the game itself is still the same look at the catcher whatever fingers he puts down that's what you throw and just let him Lead You In This one and now Lawrence Butler down the line and no one can get to it it's a foul ball [Applause] swings through that one the real threats are coming up already given up a home run in this inning it's going to really have to bear [Applause] down so the tying run at second swung on Ed that's back bangs off the wall one runs in Wilson rounds third headed for the plate he scores to tie it up it's 77 Lawrence Butler with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get [Applause] here runner in scoring position no outs now here is Brent Rooker got to be careful with this guy he's got power he can untie it with one swing that's off the mark and that's ball one goahead run in scoring position nobody out next pitch in for a strike and the count one and [Applause] one and that's outside [Applause] this one in the air he's under it makes the grab one away3 next to hit JJ Bay you know this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher what you tell yourself is I want to stay Square to the plate they try to hit the ball over the short Stop's head there's a strike part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning they're definitely looking to do some more damage Runner edges away a second two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter into an 02 count if you're up there at the plate you got to look up in the zone and spit on anything that's down way outside one and two to count one out the go-ahead run is at second swing and a highfly ball down the right field line he's got it two down maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit couldn't quite Barrel it up enough to really drive it so now it's the Four Hole hitter Seth Brown a little surprised we don't see a pinch hitter here with the Lefty Lefty matchup that's inside and that's ball one you don't want to get beat by a fast ball in and he spits on that [Applause] one hard hit base hit headed for the plate here's the throw but it's offline he will score love how he let that ball travel trusted his hands nice job of going the other way two outs runner on first Zack gell now at the plate that's in there and that's strike [Applause] one two out out that one out to right drop steps heads back on it makes the grab and that's the inning but nine batters hit in the inning five come around to score eighth inning coming up it's the A's eight and the tiger seven welcome back and a new arm of the mound to start the eth Michelle oton well the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game some of them are just wired different so we'll see what he's got here well one-run game now here's the Detroit catcher Jake Rogers he's already homered here in this one there's a strike Oakland's Bullpen has the movement Mason Miller the closer of the staff is throwing looking to get the tying run on base and fouled off righty delivers that misses the zone and the count one and two and another ball the why to kick the pitch and a swing and a miss and one gone pretty big strike out right there to start this eighth inning down one any lead off base runner really makes this inning a bit more interesting but now this offense has to switch from possibly trying to manufacture a run to needing to run into something or just try to string multiple hits together to get a run across the plate so up next Spencer Tolsen and the first pitch misses for ball one trying to hold a one-run lead and we're the top of the eighth next offering is in for a [Applause] [Music] [Applause] strike ground offall the middle that's a base hit so they get a man aboard with the one out single always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through it's just bigger than your own individual stats once you get the ball by the pitcher there's a lot of base hits up the middle even on ground ball so a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit Colt heat up now for the Tigers and there's a hit they fired in quickly so it's first and second with only one away couldn't have timed it up any better than that that pretty much split the Zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay a chance now to even the score and maybe extend this game looks like it'll be a pinch hitter carry Carpenter big spot for him here [Applause] and that gets the inside corner for a strike well all eyes on the double play ball in this spot no better way to get out of this inning next pitch is [Applause] outside late that time and strike two really going after him here all fast balls to get ahead in the count two on one out and now it's even up man oh man I don't know how you take that pitch that's as close as it gets curve in the dirt kicks [Applause] away now par so two down now and here is Parker Meadows this is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation yeah boo not sure what the numbers say but clearly in a bath that could change the course of this game dramatically and a good fast ball to start him off at strike one two on two outs popped up has a beat on it brings it in for the third out tiger strand a pair we've got a good one here it's 87 back now new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth Shelby Miller pretty tight game so they're looking for Quality pitches out of them right here got to do his best to keep the score right where it is now into the ball game on defense Trey Sweeney he's in a short stop and here's the catcher Kyle mccan three for three with a pair of home runs and a single here comes a pitch edge of the zone for a strike it's O and one swing and a miss and down on strikes one out well that was a really good job setting him up right there pitcher and catcher working together to finish him off with the fast ball and even though the location probably wasn't what he wanted the sequence is what got the job done clearly late with the swing after seeing the off speed stuff on the pitch before number 12 in the box now no balls in a strike Miller a very difficult guy to get hits off of it's really rare for teams to string stuff together against him he wins every p and for a hitter sometimes a victory is just fouling off one of his pitches activity in the bullpen Tyler Holton getting loose for AJ hinch unless he beats himself somehow can't find it doesn't have the control command that day you can pretty much forget about it Swang and a miss and that is strike two as a hitter there's even more pressure to take advantage of any mistake right yeah and you're hoping that you know somehow some way whether it's a hit by pitch a walk something bad happens because outside of that stuff is just too good to fail Off the Mark there and the count is two and two and he's got deception in his delivery and it's not that he's trying to deceive the hitters he just has this natural flow that makes it hard for hitters to pick the ball up it gets on them a little bit quicker than they anticipate even though they know what the velocity numbers are Tristan gray up next for the A's and first off ring is fouled off and the right-hander deals foul ball there foul ball it stays nothing and two and the pitch outside low and that is ball one wouldn't chase that time a leading by a run here the bottom half of the eighth inning hard hit left side slings it across and it's a one two3 inning nothing doing there for the A's and this remains a close one it's 87 welcome back and here comes the closer Mason Miller a chance at his first save of the year here so the lineup flips over here's the third baseman Matt verling Corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases they tried to get him to chase on a slider down and Away swings and misses strike one it's good speed at the top of the order here you want to get it on see if you can get a stolen base maybe get around the bases and pick up a run right hander kicks deals good eye in that spot really good two- strike pitch right there surprised he was able to spit on that thing got him and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth well that right there is what you want to see out of your closer come in and close the door cancel any hope that that opponent has in making some type of comeback in the ball game tell you what that helps him settle in and that helps everybody else relax a little bit to get these other two outs de swings through it for strike one well so many hard throwing relievers in the game these days you would think that hitters have made the adjustment but I don't know if you ever get used to it just pumping gas out of the bullpen so hard to play catch up field [Applause] two headed down the line brings it in two down well such a confidence boost for a relever to come into the ball game and get the first hit he faces just makes everything slow down a little bit and then from there can really settle in green stands in with two away as he takes a ball next offering is in for a strike and another ball you get to this part of the order yeah there's some pop there but more likely there are some base hits so very important to be patient oh now this is blasted way back there on its way gone he circles the bases his first Homer of the year it's 88 they thought he could blow a high fast ball by him but he was ready for it look at how quick he jumped on that pitch so two away with nobody on Justin Henry Malloy will hit next and there's a rocket into to the Outfield around first heading for two in with a double and the goahead runs it second with two out oh that started and ended pretty quickly no messing around right there just a solid swing right there caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit those always feel great a lot riding on this next at bat now as they look to take the lead at a critical point in this one go ahead run on base now a chance for Jake Rogers that one a triple digits man it's second that one outside and it's one and one double barreled action in the bullpen Scott Alexander getting ready to go number 38 also getting ready the pitch and one and two w triple digits on the gun I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past but it's still impressive to [Applause] watch Andy deals strike three got him swinging that ends the inning and they limit the damage well this guy competes hard we see the emotion there I love it great job of getting out of the [Applause] jam all set for the bottom of the ninth now it's the short stop Jacob Wilson and the right hter back to work and that one is lifted in the air moving under this one and there's one down the number so now here's the DH Lawrence [Applause] Butler and a good eye there movement in the bullpen Jason Foley the closer is getting loose that's in there and the count even one and one A's looking to put the goahead run on base here in the last half of inning number nine that's a strike across the top of the Zone well he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there couldn't pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he'll see in this at bat to hit bouns it off still one and two oh man so close to being a huge swing maybe the biggest swing in this ball game he's got to have a great at bat finish this off swings and misses struck him out now the number two hitter Brent Rooker known for his late inning heroics well one swing is a lot easier than getting two or three hits to win this ball game you better believe he's going to be all in to hit the ball over the fence somewhere Off the Mark there and it's w to [Applause] know that's a little bit low all tied up we're in the last half of the ninth [Applause] inning and now two and one right through there for a strike I think he was sitting off speed right there because he just let the fast ball go by that one to First Tolson steps on the bag that's the third out and we're headed to extras and one two three go the A's and this remains an eight all tie so a new pitcher on the mound for the A's Scott Alexander and he comes on here for the first time this season and I'm sure there's some nerves involved in that so we'll see how he settles in goahead run on base Spencer Tolson getting ready to hit [Applause] and here it comes and that one fouled [Applause] off and he o one just [Applause] missed well if he's going to do something special right here it's going to have to happen with two strikes man it's second foul ball still a one and two [Applause] count and a base hit and they get it in quickly first and third now with nobody out so they hold the runner at third wanting to play it safe think that comes back to bite him boy it's hard to say that runner on second to start extras is critical and you want to make sure you don't waste him they don't score this inning there'll be some second guessing for sure and next up for the Tigers Colt Heath ripped on the ground a second off balance feet there's one and that's two well that had bat had a lot liing on it definitely one of the bigger ones in the this game so that double play is going to be one we look back on when this thing is over big time execution both on the mound and in the field to get to right there here's the short stop at the play Trey Sweeny and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter kicks and fires and that one fouled [Applause] off and ball one that one in the dirt two and two [Applause] two line to [Applause] left he's in safely at second as a run scores so he gets two Milestones with that hit his first big league knock and he drives in his first run as well yeah you love to get both of those go out of the way with just one swing of the bat and it makes the special moment even more special it's not just an individual accomplishment when you're also driving in a run for your team that's an in Bat he's never going to forget so runner at second two now and next to hit for Detroit Parker Meadows [Applause] and a foul [Applause] [Music] ball lifted in the air right center field on the move to the Gap makes the play and it's out number three but a run will score in the Inning on this RBI double it's down to one here at 98 we're back and on the out is the closer Jason Foley he's been so good against lefties [Music] 345 do up for the home team JJ B digs in now the pitch well comfortable or not these are the situations closers they seem to live for me you get into some hot water a jam tough spot whatever you want to call it but this is where they earn their [Applause] keepy that one finds the zone and the count even at one no need to offer at that pitch and took you get to two strikes it's just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and Away pitch so the tying run at second that one finds the corner going to count one and [Applause] two just misses there it's getting squeezed a little bit here late [Applause] oh and this one's blasted high and deep it's out its way out of here ball game a massive home run and the A's walk it off an extra innings when you get to Extra Innings it seems like every guy is trying to come up with the big swing to hit the Homer and end the ball game well he did it huge swing of the bat and we're all heading home in a one-run game as this one ends 109 Oakland hangs on to win it for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the Show I'm John chambi saying so long
