[Music] our help program students often times come in maybe a little unaware of their needs but also really unaware of their strengths so one of the biggest things that we do is we try to really focus on that self-awareness piece making sure that they can recognize what they're good at which helps them of course then go into a degree program that they're going to love it's helped me a lot having access to someone that I can talk to all my classes about tell them when I'm struggling with what concepts or just how the class is going necessarily what grades are it's nice to have someone to check in with when you come to the help program you not only get academic tutoring for just about any course that you could enroll in including graduate but we have a skill Department that focuses on Executive functioning we focus on math reading and writing skills and then we also have a life coaching Department which focuses really holistically more so on on things like Career Development academic advising mindfulness finding your resources and finding your community and social groups on campus it's like it's like having a family you know I'm not from here I'm from Southern California so like not having family was really hard for me but knowing that I have a person that I can come to like my tutors that just want to ask me about my day and generally care for me not only as a student but as a person meant the world to me these students are absolutely capable of earning four-year degrees sometimes they just need that little extra effort that little extra support to get them there and for me to be able to watch that growth and to watch them cross that stage at the end of it it's the most rewarding place I could possibly be [Music]
