Good afternoon and welcome here to the Wwl Louisiana News at noon. I'm Brandon Walker right now. Long time WGNL sports director Ed Daniels is being laid to rest. Ed passed away last Friday after suffering a heart attack, he died doing what he loved covering the New Orleans Saints. Our Meg Ferris is at Ed's funeral. As loved ones. Look back on his life and his tremendous legacy. Hey, Meg, good afternoon, Brandon and only 67 years old. I will tell you here in Meowy at Saint Philip Neary, there are hundreds and hundreds of people, maybe even 1000 who are going through the visitation. Um Here the line is very, very long. Um We are told that the family um out of respect does not want media in to cover the mass which starts in one hour. Um There'll be a private burial but then um from 3 to 5, there's a public ceremony um at rock and roll. Now, I will tell you the people who are here are everyone from people with the Saints, um Organ organization high ups with the Saints Organization from NFL football, high school coaches. Of course, the broadcast world and everyone who formerly worked in broadcast and still does work in broadcast from Jim Henderson and Mike Hos and all those people who long time worked in sports and in news. And we did talk to two dignitaries, Gay Benson and Archie Manning just a short while ago. Take a listen. I don't think I played an imp important. Sorry, I don't think I played an important role. I just did something to help somebody that needed help. And the family called and I felt like it was important to get him back and so small favor with uh sons playing high school football and grandsons playing high school football. Um Ed was just the best, uh just a super guy. Uh He was great at what he did. I told another group. No, nobody can duplicate what he and JT have done on, on Friday on Friday night football. And that is so significant because we take it for granted that we have all these Friday night lights reports that we do on uh prep football. And Ed was a pioneer in doing that. So we talked to people who started that with him and I have to tell you Archie Manning a long time old miss friend actually got choked up because he said his grandson, Arch who played for Newman and um now is playing college ball. This was the first significant person in his life who has passed away and he said it really broke arch his son up learning about this. We'll have much more coming up tonight at five and six reporting live from meter Meg Ferris Wwl Louisiana really is fair to say legendary is an understatement. Meg Thank you so much for your reporting.
