with the first pick in the 2009 NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select Matthew Stafford remember you will you remember shoulder more on should get your AC join no never done that hey that's the timeout I can play right give me give me get the help me up I can throw the ball if you need me to throw the [Music] ball hey hey hey I can throw the ball you me to throw the ball is that coming back in I think Stafford will come back in the game I did not think he was going to come back kind of stuff that endear you to a city well what it'll endear him to a city right now see if that timeout comes back to haunt the Browns it allowed Matthew Stafford to come back in this is it this is the [Music] game last play of the game takes the snap rolls throws touch down Detro wi out out I love you man the good time that we let them slip away from things got clearly I first saw you smiling in the sun don't feel your warm upon me [Music] w't feel one I will remember you will you remember me don't let your press you off in time and Stafford throwing it intercepted by kby Joseph Stafford throws his first interception against the L in three games and a red turn they didn't do third down [Music] deep screaming inside can't be hurt I Will Remember You The Lions bring [Music] war'll [Music] us to over firsts and goal from the one it is Montgomery it is a Trey Lon overtime with [Applause] we know the coming back again you know the the jur golf chance the booing when you come out are you over that I mean is this just another just another place to play now [Applause] it's uh yeah we definitely going to get copyright right uh but uh but uh it doesn't matter because it's a it's a victory Monday what up everybody welcome to another episode of Full Metal analysis I'm your boy Bruce Ziggy got my homeboy uh MJ Detroit over here how you feeling about the win I know you feeling good today Marcus how you feeling man oh man you know uh it was a late night but it uh it didn't even matter uh Lions came out with a victory it was a really fun great game and it just had a whole different feel to it than the past Lions games or past Lions season openers I should say yeah definitely man as lions fans we all we all like to throw the so word around um I think a lot of us a lot a lot of people was feeling that way last night I mean honestly man I held Faith you know what I'm saying I I got a little shaky but I hell face man when we got down to two minutes left in the game and and um people was wondering what it's going to do I was like hey you know what I'm saying this is this is what Dan kampbell does you know what I'm saying all you ever hear about in practice is they run the two minute drill all over and over and over and over again so and those were the moments that they that they practice for so I have faith man but a lot of people was out there scared man a lot of people was trying to bring up S so I heard a lot of people last night saying this these are the games we usually we usually uh lose and this win brought a lot of faith back to people um saying that so might finally be dead uh it's funny you bring that up because I was listening to the radio and somebody called in and they brought that up they said that they was at the game and he was saying a lot of the uh people he was sitting next to you know 50-year season ticket holder and he could just feel the vibe like like he he they I don't think the guy said it but he could just feel the vibe like oh here we go again and I'm with you I'm with you man I I I really wasn't there um like I said this this game this this season this team you know this this uh this uh this organization you know this regime it's got a whole different feel to it right and and and and watching the game last night um I expected the Lions to win and to your point I'm not gonna lie there were two Mo there was one moment and then there was another moment where I was nervous I was just super nervous obviously I was nervous throughout the whole game but uh I was nervous when uh the Lions when it was 17 to 20 and uh and jarro go in that second half didn't look quite as sharp as we would like him to have and I texted you like man I I just want to like I think it was third and five you know please just just run the ball just just run the ball the result that that one that one had me nervous I think they I think they did throw it I don't I think they did throw it and I think they kick the field goal whatever whatever yeah yeah they throw it and kick the field goal and after they kicked the field goal that's when I was terrified was giving the ball back to Matthew Stafford with uh you know it wasn't even that much time left it's like 15 seconds but bro like I you could you know you we could stay on here all night and I don't think you will ever convinced me that there was no way that he was going to throw aen Hutchinson saved the game in my opinion like he you know he was he was all over the field but he never got home but at the end of the day he saved the game because had he not gotten that sack it would have been a crazy 30 yard bomb on a blown coverage or you know somebody would have slipped and and and you know blew the coverage or it would have been a pass interference call I just in my heart so I don't know if that's I don't know you classified as so it it it pretty much does sound like so but just the way that game was going and and and based on the feel of that game I I wouldn't really say it's so it was just more so based on the feel of that game and and the way that they was all on terion Arnold for pass interference calls and um that one pass to Tyler Johnson I think it was who you know I think it was Tyler Johnson whoever it was they you know it was a BL they two two lions missed that tackle and he broke for like a 60 yard game game you know just the the secondary was you know I mean they played in my opinion they played a good game they they they look way better than they did last year but towards the end of the game Stafford was getting to them so I'm so glad Hutch got that sack that was they highlighted him before the play and I was like God Hut we need you right here because if he throws that pass I don't know what's gonna happen but I got a bad feeling yeah to your point my man was open too you know what I'm saying if uh if um if Hutch hadn't uh made that play then um uh I think terion was beat down the sideline U by by a couple of steps be down spike the ball call timeout whatever and then Justin Tucker 2.0 all over again so um me and you since golf is got here me and you we we we we we've been we we've got this thing where we recognize it's a certain point in the game in certain games where G gets a look in his eye and um and when he gets that look in his eye he that that's the golf that comes out and makes mistakes and I saw that for uh a few minutes last night in the third quarter uh right when um the Rams were making that run and he was throwing those those pickoffs but what gave me confidence towards the end of the game I seen him um right before the two minutes was up he came off the he he came came off the bench and that look was gone I seen him he he kind of like shook his head like okay all right I know what we got to do he came off the bench and that look was gone I was like oh [ __ ] we gonna win you know what I'm saying at that moment you know what I'm saying I I had re re regain my my fa and he came out and he you know what I'm saying he was back to normal I think I text you and said uh GF is looking back like like he you know he looking back normal and um yeah man they went out there and and they did it um Hutch definitely say the game uh you know my other thing um Hutch you know what I'm saying he he he's all over the field nobody can stop him my only thing with Hutch is I want him to finish more uh he's always in the quarterback's face like almost every play every game every every game every every game every play Hut is there but you know what I'm saying I would like to see him uh as much as he's in the back field man he should have 100 sacks but he just does it you know what I'm saying he just does it you know I'm saying he gets there and he's close you know what I'm saying and and he just doesn't finish but to his credit they were holding and clawing at him and and grabbing him all night long and the refs would just just would not make the call you know what I'm saying except for on that one play on the on the on the one yard line but I mean oh yeah yeah that one was yeah that one was blatant so he got that one but I want yeah cuz they got got his face mask on that they a have no choice but to call that one but they finally did give him a flag for holding and when they showed the replay I'm like I mean that was holding but they've been doing this to him all night all night long like that that that play was call on that was no different from all the other ones that they had showed earlier in that game so I mean to your point um to your point you know I've been I've been fighting you the what's this this third year I've been fighting you these three years um you know just just I'm saying you know give them time give them time but this is third year all right so now I'm I'm I'm I'm turning the the burner up um yeah it's definitely time and um and that brings me to another point that we'll get into in a minute but I'm with you like I'll give as long as you showing you know the potential that you got drafted like the same thing with terion Arnold terion Arnold got beat couple times terion Arnold got a couple pass interference calls but at the end of the day like I wasn't um you know I was I'm not I'm not worried about terion Arnold to be honest with you same way I wasn't worried about Hutch you know after about two three years I'm gonna be the same way like all right you know it's time it's time that that you know time that you turn it on yeah man um my last point about Hutch man is I I don't want people to think I'm hating on him man because Hutch is a beast and like I said said I love everything he brings to the team he he like I said he's there every play I love it you know what I'm saying he's there disrupting every play I just wish he would make a uh he would he he would finish like for instance that one play he had his arms wrapped around Matthew Stafford and and he didn't make the tackle and Matthew Stafford got loose and and made a pass up field so you know what I'm saying just I love Huts so don't take it as eight I love Huts but you know I'm saying I just need to finish a little bit more um terion man terion terion had a good game I mean I like you said he made he got beat a couple of times he made some mistakes but I mean a rookie I mean I wouldn't I wouldn't expect nothing else a rookie uh first game uh first playoff game ever up against Cooper cup I mean that's a tall order for anybody especially for a rookie in his first game so I'm not mad at terriana at all man he a hell of a game um you know he he when he did make a mistake he tried to make up for what a what a with a good play right behind it so yeah man I'm I'm with you all the way right there yeah it was um it was you know it was it was a good it was a good show for all the rookies out there um for Arnold and I couldn't help but watch uh Jared verse and Braden Fisk uh those are two guys that we we highlighted before before the game highlighted before the uh draft and you know they look good out there man they look good out there you know they got a tall task they they basically task with replacing Aaron Donald and um right right right you know the game started off the game started off man and and you know all the Jared golf chants and uh you know and the preseason Super Bowl talks all that went out the window and and it was it was real it was real you know we was they was in it and and and the offensive line took a minute it took a minute man um honestly they didn't look like the offensive line that we've been accustomed to until you know that overtime to be honest with you right and and we already know you know we've talked about it countless times what Jared G you know it's no secret what Jared G looks like under pressure and and I think that's part of uh why he wasn't as uh accurate and and he just didn't seem like he was on que you know he really struggled to get the ball to Amar ra um you know he you know he you know he he he hit J Mo he hit J Mo that's all I'm ask man he hit J Mo so he he made that happen and it really seemed like that was the focal point you know we we know we know what St Brown is we know what leap pora is um and I it just really felt like that was the focal point was to get was the J Mo coming out party yeah um I think um it it was the J moom out party man um I I I agree with you um you know the lions look like a team like to your point you you you say this every year um the lions look like a team that didn't play preseason you know what I'm saying uh you you be you be saying that you think you know saying they should get a couple of reps in in preseason games and um it looked like they they look like a team that didn't have any reps during preseason so um but you know uh Dan Campbell said the same thing you know what I'm saying uh in his speech after the locker room he gave a speech and said that uh you know I'm saying that they didn't look like themselves and they still ped it out you know what I'm saying we got keep getting better you know what I'm saying so um uh yeah man I'm I'm I'm with you right there as far as that um yeah man go is gota I mean um um with T brown it was like I think they I think they had him I don't know if they had him double covered or what but it's it's like they they playing for G and they didn't have a plan for JMA that that's that's the way I was looking at it it was like you know what I'm saying here's this this rookie that only spots know that only spot catches every now and then and we got to put all our focus on on on St Brown and then J Mo um and then J MO breaks out you know what I'm saying has has a big game so I fully expect um uh teams to uh be aware of J Mo now but all that's going to do is just open up things for uh leap Porter and St Brown underneath yeah man it it was really a it was really a a eye openening um game in the since that we got an opportunity to see how all offseason you know we worried about we worried about two things well we were worried about three things we were worried about a pass rush um but then the the the big talk though really was backup quarterback and the third wide receiver and last night was just really a opportunity to see that like as lions fans man we it's going to sound crazy when I say it but we are in such a luxury position where we were about the third wide receiver because right I mean you got uh you know starting you got jir Gibbs you got David Montgomery you got St brown Le pora J Mo you know I mean is and we talking about a third receiver you know khif khif made a big play to start off overtime so it's it's just it's just real we in a real good spot right now uh the only thing I would say is that um you don't want to see an injury to that to that wide receiver core yeah man when uh J Mo went down in the uh in in the first uh in the first half man that was a scary moment you know what I'm saying um if we did get an injury receiver is the is the place that we finished at um I know um so when when J went down I was like oh man I mean is is is that going to be season because we we already lost Josh Reynolds and um and then J went down so that was just gonna leave uh St Brown and Porter and leaf as our uh as a wide receiver which is still a good core but it's not that dominant um that dominant factor that we depending on that dominance that we depending on so um yeah that that was a scary moment um um D B up a good point on Woodward today uh shout out to uh spin uh that uh as far as the I mean it wasn't really a big hit for us missing Josh Reynold but you know I'm saying where we did miss him at was those those touchdown um those touchdown catches in the Red Zone you know what I'm saying uh Josh Reynolds was the guy who when we got in the Red Zone we hit at the back of the end zone for those things and um he tried to get it to leor at the back of the end zone but it just wasn't there and um that's only way I can see where we miss uh Josh rold at but if we can get uh uh Tim um I can never remember his last name Tim Patrick Yeah Tim if we can get Tim Patrick up from the Patrick SC in shap and and um I feel like that's a role that he can uh pick up you know what I'm saying but other than that man we solid I'm with you I'm with you um well with that being said uh I just want to go over uh uh the biggest what was one big takeaway you have from the game I like our defense this year man I really like our defense I mean I know uh we had some flaws everything is not perfect like like we like we mentioned with terion you know what I'm saying he he has a few rough edges but he but he look good and that first quarter um the defense was electric man I felt it through the screen like I felt it in my soul like oh man we got a defense you know what I'm saying and I don't think I've ever felt like that you know what I'm saying I don't think I've ever felt like that about Alliance defense since since we had sue you know what I'm saying so ahead of ahead of B was back there Diggs yeah yeah that yeah man and I felt that I felt that energy felt that energy coming off the screen I mean at the beginning of the game I felt that energy it kind of died down as the game went on you know a little bit but I I see us doing nothing but getting better you know what I'm saying as we get as we get more experience Terry gets more experience you know I'm saying that we get in the groove of things DAV Port look good you know I'm saying he came out you know saying he made some plays you know I'm saying if we can get Davenport and Hutch you know I'm saying attacking that edge that was one of the concerns we had uh that was one of the concerns we had uh uh uh this preseason was that other Edge spot so if he could stay healthy that looks like it's gonna be a good thing we haven't even seen James Houston come out so yeah man my takeaway will be uh sh no James Houston and we haven't we still haven't seen DJ reader and people people right right yeah DJ reader up hard so I'm I'm excited to see him because I'm not familiar with work so hopefully he's what everybody is saying he is uh I want to forget to me car Carlson Davis Carlson Davis man man he was out there uh I mean you know puka knew got his catches but I mean he was out there man doing his thing man making plays you know what I'm saying only that one play where my man stopped on the dime but I mean I mean you you don't expect that you know especially from uh my man who did it yeah no he had a good he had a real good he look like a veteran Corner out there man and that's something we haven't had in a while and and you know he took a lot of I think he took a lot of you know pressure off of you know if Terry and I just had to come in here cold so yeah I was was glad to see him out there and um yeah now I'm with you uh defense is a great is a great is a great takeaway um mine I'm a I'm a cheat and I'm G spin it all in the one but uh mine's gonna be a little bit outside the box it was just the whole feel of the team um felt like like we are the big dogs on the Block um like we felt you know everything like my thing all these years that we that that me and you been talking about the Lions um at the end of the day my vision was always to just put together a team you know I you know I trip you out when I say it all the time but I'm always trying to I'm always trying to take another situation and try to mold it into how the Lions could do that situation I'm a copycat you know they say it's copycat League I'm all about the copycat uh the copycat technique and and the Lions felt like a copycat of one of these official powerhouses of the NFL we've seen over the years and it goes it's you know starts from the bottom the foundation I guess you could say which was the fans which was forward field you know how loud it was you know people were debating on whether or not Stafford threw that pick because um you know just just the colors and and in the in the moment and and Kirby Joseph on the backdrop of that Lions wall and you know just he couldn't see him he Blended in with everything like you know and and and describing that like that you know that that's put fear that's gonna put fear in quarterbacks man that's going that's gonna make difficult place place to play and on top of all of that my favorite thing about being an official uh real team was that do you and nobody's talking about it I haven't heard it I don't think I heard maybe I heard it once today but do you know how many fourth downs we had and how many times we punted the ball and how many times we kicked field goals I was oh my fiance did fantasy football for the first time this year and of course they matched her up against me in week one and you know I'm gonna be fully transparent she's beating me she's gonna she's probably gonna beat me uh I needed one more touchdown from Jon that might have put me back in the game but I digress uh point being her team is good I looked at her team you know this is before the the week started I'm like this kind of like a team all to put together and right turns out she's beat me and everything but her kicker is uh I don't want to get his name right I mean I don't want to get his name wrong so I was uh Jake Jake Bates her kicker is Jake Bates I'm like you took the LI kicker I like you know D don't kick field goals and long behold man he kicked what he kicked two field goals and you know that that that really I was really proud of Dan Campbell man like like like I was always in on Dan Campbell and that was just that one you know just that that was about the only thing me and you would ever argue about is whether or not he should have went forward or whether he should get the field goal I like and the way that he called that game last night was what I've been saying is was it was really the heart of what I've been saying this whole time is just just just have a little bit of faith and to your point you always said well the defense was out there looking ragged so to your point you know this defense look a lot better so hey who was right who was wrong it don't matter but the point is that we've kind of come all together you know we kind of circled all the bases and and we've all come back home to where you know this Detroit Lions team looks like you know looks like the road to the Super Bowl comes through for field so um I'm excited we still gota we do gotta go to uh you know San Francisco and I think that's like the last game of the season so you know they they knew what they was doing on that but you know got but we got a rough schedule man um Texans look real good man we got go we um Stefan digs and Joe Mixon look like they've been with the team for years they right in yeah you ain't lying yeah man and we gotta go through them that's gonna be a rough game but man yeah man but but other than that man we we we killed it man um I I um I had faith I had I had full faith in this the whole time man like like um like I was saying earlier man um the the feeling that you just described was just was just you know confidence the whole time you know what I'm saying um I mean a little shaky but you know what I'm saying but it was just like never did I feel like I felt like we was gonna win the game the whole time you know what I'm saying and that's what's different you know saying you know what I'm saying before it's like you know what's gonna happen you know I hope we can do this I hope we can do that I hope we can do that and this time you know I'm saying I was expecting it you know I'm saying um I I do want him to get the ball to St Brown more but I was expecting him to get the B I was expecting them to um to uh to to convert um you the one play that Danny Kell did go for on fourth down my cousin came in the room like ah here you go here you go and you know you know what I said I was like they about to get it watch they about to get it and then and they converted it and he was like oh you know what I'm saying but but to your point it's not it's not every play you know I'm saying it didn't like sometimes when needed to do it is to feel desperate you know what I'm saying when he did it this time it didn't feel desperate it felt like a calculated uh a calculated strategy you know what I'm saying and had this argument before and um you know I I'll Circle back and I'll say I disagree with you then but uh 100% watching it this time was like this is this is what Bruce was talking about um I watched some I watched all of the Packers game I watched some of the Bears game and I watched some of the Vikings game and all three of those NFC North teams um uncharacteristic istically went for it on fourth down the the now the Packers game they went for it on fourth down like two I want to say like two or three times I want to say two times and they was gonna go for it on a third time and it was like fourth and six and I'm like and they end up getting the penalty and you know moving back and then they was like all right we gonna kick it or punt it or whatever they did but but to your point um you know I think that's the Dan Campbell effect um yeah they they they they know they know who they know who the the division champs are and they know that they got to come for him and they they they taking a page out of his book because they know that when you play Dan Campbell man you know you gotta put all your chips on the table you gotta be ready you gota be you know because he G he gonna put all his chips on the table so you all in and you all out so so to your point um you know copycat League people trying to keep up with Dan Campbell and when have you ever seen other teams trying to emulate what the Lions do man like it's it's just exactly time so all that
