what's up everybody this is Johnny baseman we're back here in the basement for another round of the finals in footy between the Western Bulldogs and the Hawthorne Hawks before we get into it please subscribe Bell notice hit the like button drop your comments down below and then we're going to get into this game right here the Western Bulldogs coming in finishing sixth on the ladder the haon Hawks come in finishing seventh on the ladder what's interesting about the Hawks is after round five they were uh number 17 they were 17th on the ladder they started the season 0 and five went 14 and four since then taking the league by storm this team is on fire absolute fire now the first quarter came out the Hawks really could have taken off they seemed like the game plan that they had in this first half it seemed like the game plan they had just wasn't translating right away there wasn't translating right away and I wrote some things down that I noticed during the game you guys know I take my notes right off the bat this team came out the Hawks were smothering they were creating opportunities for themselves early the dogs could not take advantage of the missteps by the Hawks in the beginning they just seemed to be gang tackling they seem to be swarming in close to the dogs players but they were giving up opportunities that the dogs just never took advantage of even though they were leading at the end of the first quarter 2513 the Hawks you just felt like it was more of the Hawks quarter you just felt like like the Hawks were just not getting it together just yet and the dogs thankfully could not take advantage of that yes I was going for the Hawks sorry but I was going for the Hawks even though I'm a Brisbane Lions fan they're the ones that are going to take the whole thing they're going to come back with a storm that's a different story we'll do that when the uh when the Lions play the blues tomorrow anyway the Hawks plan that came out they started slowing that Tempo down in the second quarter if you notice I think the first five minutes there was no scores it was 25 to 13 dogs and then it started to come out you'll see the Hawks and they were getting booed because here we are again the home team gets demolished even though at the end of the you kind of saw it at the end of the first half that the Hawks was starting to pull away a little bit I believe it was 45 to 34 at the end of the first half but that second quarter really told the story the Hawks slowed it down the the dog fans were booing them because they were just dropping back they were spreading their defense out everybody was just beautiful distribution of the ball just hand pass hand pass hand pass hand pass spread in the they spread the dogs defense out that's how you do it you spread them out and they're just kind of picking their way in in in to the middle of the field moving down the ball very very well James sisily Johnny on the spot in that first half Nukem and Meeks were the other stars for the Hawks but James Sicily in that first half was out of this world amazing he is the real reason why these Hawks started taking off especially in that second quarter his numbers in the first half he had 16 disposals nine marks five contested possessions 413 meters gain and four score involvements he was everywhere he is a huge reason a huge obvious leader of that team and he's the reason why those Hawks really started just hey just let's slow this down let's slow this down we can tell I've seen plenty of games in my life and you can tell even when a team has a lead it's like they're kind of playing not to lose that's what the dogs were doing they had the lead at the end of that first quarter and they started playing not to lose when you play not to lose you lose because you start playing and everything gets overthought overwhelmed man I don't want to screw this up let's keep this moving even though the Hawks are the more inexperienced team when it comes to the finals I believe the dogs didn't have as much is is uh maybe had a little bit more experience I don't know that one you'll have to get back to me on I just know that the Hawks this is their first win in the finals in nine years since 2015 since 2015 they haven't won a finals since then so that's nine years the Bulldogs I'm not quite sure I should have looked a little bit more into that but we're in the basement and I'll admit it when I don't know something and right there I just don't know but it seemed to me that nine years is a long time and that this Hawks team has a young bright future they could actually win the Premiership if the Lions falter which they won't but if they do this is the team I'm going to be going for I like their tenacity I like their flare and their ferocity when they come out and that big difference here the big difference in this one if you look at the first quarter and the fourth quarter the Bulldogs were right there they were right there they won that first quarter and I believe the fourth quarter was 22 to 21 Hawks they got murdered in the second and the third quarter one thing I noticed just offand I noticed that the third quarter for a lot of teams they get their doors blown off the power had two points in the third quarter yesterday two and I believe going off the top of my head again but I believe they were outscored 37-2 in that third quarter that is that's mindblowing but I've seen that a lot since in my short time of watching footy this is my second season that a lot of times teams come out of that halftime sluggish one team comes out rare in the go it seems like the other team is just lost in space somewhere just not in it this team here got outscored I got to look but I think it was 64- 16 second and third quarter combined 64- 16 you're not winning on that yeah it was 64-6 Hawks in the second and third quarter combined that's incredible that is insane that's where the Bulldogs lost this game man they came out playing not to lose they're lucky that the Hawks missed some goals they missed some opportunities in that first quarter they got a they got a lot of behinds they had a lot of behinds and I told you in my last video if you didn't see it I used to argue last year that behinds are points now I see they are missed points instead of you're getting one instead of six so the Hawks really could have blown they really could have blown this open but the difference between the two teams and I always believe it comes down to coaching one team seemed to just tighten up and get it together with the Hawks did they stuck with their game plan they just made some minor adjust in-game adjustments spreading the Bulldogs defense out they spread the field out that's what I saw and they started channeling their way in and they would had wide openen opportunities right up the gut and they were scoring on them and taking advantage of the opportunities they should have had in the first quarter but it all panned out anyway so a couple of notes that I found here at the end uh by way just on a footnote the dogs did a whole lot of pushing and shoving and angry and embarrassed because this was an elimination game they got eliminated at home and they did more fighting at the end with the Hawks with the pushing and shoving than they showed at all during the game they just did I thought that was kind of funny it's another home loss the power lost at home they got embarrassed they got really embarrassed the dogs I the score is 37 point difference they got embarrassed in the second and third quarter it just seemed like they just couldn't get over the top they just couldn't get over the hump of that uh I did we did the bounce back and Sicily Nukem and meek they were the stars of the Hawks there's no doubt about it those guys right there were the reason that the Hawks won and kept everything under control so they uh this is very interesting guys there was a lot of great things I never felt like yesterday when I watched the power the second half I didn't even have to take notes the the game just got to be an absolute outright d destruction this year they were dominating the Hawks but they were scoring a lot of behinds and not a lot of goals and that's the reason why the hog the Bulldogs had the um the advantage in the beginning they just weren't doing it they just weren't taking advantage those behinds you guys are right I bow to you I I bow to being wrong I admit it I'm wrong a lot of my videos from last year you will see I argued that behind it's like a free throw basketball it's all points but that free throw and Basketball by the way if the guy gets fouled and he misses the three-point shot or a two-point shot he gets those free throws but he's got to hit them and if he doesn't hit him you're losing points that you should have had so I I get it now because I used like no one cheers during these behinds everybody's like ah whatever now I get it now I get it because the power by the way the power left 36 points on the table at one point during that game with all these behinds So eventually that just the other team's just going to take total advantage of it and that's what the Hawks did they took advantage of of it in the beginning they had they they started getting some behinds and it started to get a little nerve-wracking but overall they dominated this game they were in the forward 50 way more than the uh actually believe it or not the dogs were taking advantage in that first half they were in the they were in the forward half 47% of the time and they scored that 47% of the time the Hawks only scored 34% of the time and that's why the dogs had the lead in the beginning but that was mainly all first quarter I just love the way the Hawks kept their composer turned it around this is a young exciting team we got the swans and the Giants coming up that game there is going to be the toughest game to pick I the Giants I can't figure them out I I I don't I'm gonna go with them anyway I'm GNA go with the Giants the swans look a little shaky at times too that's a tough one to pick right there the Giants fell off I mean they had a hot start and they fell off the lions are going to beat the blues the blues barely beat out the pies for the 10 excuse me for the eighth spot barely beat him out on percentage points they both had 52 points a piece and the blues barely beat them out they started they started choking away the season a little bit sorry Dave sorry Dave but your Blues are going down tomorrow because we are going to review the Lions and the blues tomorrow this has been exciting I really enjoyed this game today there was not one moment that I felt like there was some moments that I felt like hey man this this really might start taking off and then that fourth quarter the dogs put up a fight again but it was a little you know too little too late that's the phrase too little too late if they had kept that consistency throughout the dogs probably would have won this game but they didn't the second and third quarter they were absolutely dominated dominated and they couldn't get anything going their ball distribution fell apart they couldn't they just stuck to the same game plan when you don't make in-game Transitions and adjustments you kind of lose playing not to lose means you're going to lose quick little example for those that watch the NFL a defense will come in sack sack pressure pressure pressure it's working all game now it's the other team's last Drive of the game let's say this other teams up by a touchdown seven points they're up by seven points and now all of a sudden they drop their defense back into his own defense prevent defense is what it's called and it's always you know prevent ourselves from winning all of a sudden you take everything away that's been working you take it all away and now you drop everybody back and you give that quarterback on the other team just I'm just going to throw underneath the whole way down the field underneath underneath underneath underneath because you're playing a zone defense you're giving up zones you're giving up Pockets areas to where guys are just wide open because we don't want to give up the touchdown but low and behold playing not to lose means you're going to lose anyway fellas I'll be back tomorrow for the
