many of gan's co-workers attended the trial 8 news now investigator Vanessa Murphy joins us now with L I'm here with review journal court reporter Caitlyn Newberg who worked with Jeff Gman and has been covering this every day of this trial tell me what this is like as a reporter but also covering it as his colleague yeah it's been really difficult honestly probably the hardest story I've covered in my whole career um I'm a relatively young reporter and I just started covering courts two years ago and right after I got on this be Jeff you know was killed so it's been pretty hard it's been a tough two weeks here we've seen his family here thoughts on how they were going through this and seeing them I they're obviously a very close-knit family they're uh very they seem very strong I think they were just getting through this the best way that they could um they're pretty private and I think we all wanted to respect that so I I think they're going to do it as best as they could really how do you balance the personal connection and also report on it part of it is treating it like any other trial almost just I'm here to do my job as best as I can and that's part of what being a journalist is is reporting on the news in a way that's not biased so I hope I could have done that and I really just kind of wanted to report on it the way Jeff would would have what inspired you about Jeff and his work I unfortunately I didn't know him that well but he obviously was a Titan in The Newsroom everyone looked up to him and I really liked reading all of his investigative stories and I thought he was a great Bulldog journalist and I think we would all love to be that one day thanks for talking to us really great work
