[Music] spectacular ocean views not far away from the home of the Florida Atlantic owls FAU stadium in boa Ron Florida where they hope this game lives up to the setting what we have in store today a clash between a pair of aacc squads as we'll see the Army Black Knights taking on the Florida Atlantic hour for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis joined here in the grp As Always by David poock and Jesse Palmer guys let's tee this one [Music] [Applause] up for Atlantic about to put toe leather and get this thing [Applause] started from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 the cadet offense will get the first possession of the game and here he comes guys the man who makes everything go everything in this offense is built around his ability he's got such great field Vision he's got it all on he is must watch TV let's not get it twisted people show up to this idium people are watching back at home because of this guy right here you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense after the niney pickup on first down here's second and one on the option and he's tripped up but not before picking up the first down and you got to throw the fullbacks a bone occasionally okay those dudes have one of the worst jobs on the field always blocking every single Play Down in down out you get those situations you can give him the ball give him a bone reward him for all of his hard work lining up from the 34 on first down back to throw it's Dy fires to the big fella that's a really good tackle there giving up some size and still making the play really good concept there to get things going and use the tight end early yeah I mean just such a great job on first down setting up an easier second down understanding I don't always have to push the ball down the field but see the tight end make the throw know it's not a big game it makes life really easy on the on second down he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple listen I know there are a lot of DBS out there all we want to do is get interceptions and danc in the end zone this dude likes to put his face in the fan get close to the line of scrimmage tackle and on the opening drive if he's out there he gets a huge tackle for loss early that is a statement play he'll ride his man on the option nice job to keep it himself find the first down marker and move the change for this offense well this is one of the fastest quarterbacks in college football and that's why the options a good idea because if he can get out in space and he has a chance to get down field he is really difficult to tackle and he's very difficult to catch as he saw in that last play getting a first down off the plate fake on first down and he fires over the middle it's incomplete well on that incompletion the quarterback and receiver just not on the same page I mean that wasn't even [Applause] close let's see if they go back to the air after the incompletion second and 10 from the 48 on the option and a decent gain there before the def defense makes the stop I love when you throw the fullback dude is so unselfish blocks the whole game I'm a bone every now well of course you like the fullbacks because you wish you had been a fullback some wanted to make you a fullback and you were great could have been even greater or I could have been a defensive lineman in a three-time allamerican in a first round draft and the defense knew exactly where that first down line was and they stopped him short [Music] the Black Knights will send out the punt unit first punt of the day and he'd love to lock them up close to their goal line able to keep them from getting a return and the ball goes out of bounds they're going to mark it right around the 20 so Ford Atlantics offense will try to get something started with their first possession as we take a look at our impact players for this game David what do you look for to make an impact from your leaders your leaders not only have to lead the football team but they got to step up and make plays on the field keep everybody calm these guys typically do a really good job yeah David and they also generally set the tone for their respective football teams regardless of which side of the ball they play on the teammates look towards them to step up in big games like this just had a solid pick up on first now let's see what they've got on second down wide out in [Applause] motion looking for a gap it's Moy finds Zak fre and he's got four out to the 29 I think you run that play so you stay out of third and long third and long is not where an offense ever wants to thrive third and medium hey I'm good with that so you run that play to make make sure you're set up for a good third down ball spotted at the 29 here they come on Third and short they'll try to pick it up on the ground he's going to have enough to pick up the first down as they stop him at the 33 yd line yeah third and one you know what time it is it's about the big boys up front you got to give me a little bit of space a little crack you just can't give up that penetration so my running back can fall forward just like that and get the first down the owls will line it up on First and 10 still on his feet at the 45 quarterback gets it up he's showing it all the juice the Jets the boovs and he's got it down to the 16 yd line man that dude has some jet they run the replay forget Hannah the football off he takes off and he is a running back in open field chewing up yards nice big play by that young [Applause] man motion from the offense touch pass on the Jet Sweep oh there's the ball everybody needs a little luck and the offense just got it by Falling on that fumble man and this is why you practice Five Points of pressure with the football you cannot put the ball on on the ground doesn't matter how many Defenders are around you or how hard you get hit you cannot turn the football over and expect to win games and the owls trying to cash it in on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run he worked his way ever closer all the way down to the one yd line I like this guy as a running back because he can run between the tackles and he can also go outside he can really do it all looking for just one more yard it's second and [Applause] goal tries again to get it in Into The End Zone he goes touchdown Florida Atlantic and they just keep feeding it to their Workforce back to open this game great job in the open field he's got tremendous Vision he can make people miss you saw all of that on display here at the opening drive [Music] [Music] now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the extra point makes it seven nothing they put together an 81 yd drive and they capped it off with a one yd punch seven Z about to kick it off after pun you get in for the touchdown K he'll bring it back from inside his SP not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 Army has it back and the offense ready to go they hope to be able to cash in on this drive David after having to punt it last time yeah and I think this offense needs to started with the first play you need to be successful and productive on that first play and it gets you in less predictable situations no doubt too don't you just feel like there's a little bit more sense of urgency on this drive it just feels like they've got to be able to put some points up on the board here with a first down they'll snap it from the [Applause] 32 they'll run the option he'll pull it on the read just sort of a Relentless run getting everything that was available to him and they'll Mark him down at the 40 yeah of the QB calls his own number and all these options obviously multiple plays he decides to stick with it get some positive yards and and now what's next off of that what's my next read off of that how am I going to mix things up and keep this defense off balance now on the [Applause] [Music] option and guys Ford Atlantic has the end we put one of the books Let's have a look at our game [Music] summary now to see if these guys can get back in the game as we open the second quarter lining up trying to convert this third and short from the 40 they'll run the option that just never had a chance as they controlled the middle of the field and stopped him in the back field on third down let's be honest like the only time the fullback gets the football is usually in short guarding situations and the defense was locked in you got to try to get penetration with that defense in line they get a good job of it nowhere to go with the football for the big fell fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way makes the catch wants to make a move up field that's a perfect example of not settling for a fair catch pick up whatever yard you can and help out the offense they'll go to the ground and that's what you're trying to do is a defense limit those damages when they run the football get them on the ground short gains to set your defense for positive situations down the road didn't get much on first down it's second and nine back to throw it's fer it's complete to the left and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up and that's the looking man coverage you can throw the hitch route against right when the receiver's got a little bit of access so he's got some room to work with against press you're risking a pick six so good decision there by the que knowing that was a good look to throw in from the gun on third down got it in the middle it's m good pick up there they'll move the change in their set up at the 4 one it's all about critical downs and distances on defense you want to be great unit defensively you got to be good on third down and in the red zone for this defense giving up a third down like that that is just a gut punch Florida Atlantic will go to work with a fresh set of downs he leaves it with the back and he's able to find a little bit of Running Room before they get him down coaches always harp about staying ahead of the champ you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that that kind of pick up on first down and you can take a shot here on second and short fast motion from the offense from the gun the running back has it and that should be enough to give FL Atlantic the first down this is a guy that can find you the hidden yardage that play he just pushes the pile to get that first down [Music] this Florida Atlantic offense is on a [Applause] roll wide receiver now comes in motion from the shotgun the inside G and maybe they want to try somewhere else because there is nothing doing in the middle of this defense stopping the run is very high on every defensive coordinator's list making the team one dimensional nice job stuffing the run on that play right there they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 from the gut the running back looking for room and he does a really nice job finding open space and making a good game before the stop is made already in Chip Shot field goal range at the 21 but this third and short they're still thinking touchdown looking downfield it's fer he finds his man defense makes a stop but the chains move and it's first and goal from the eight third down in short is exactly what you want an offense because you can run the football make the defense suck up but you can also throw it nice execution third and short Now set up in a first and goal situation they'll go to the air he wants it all he makes a catch in the end zone touchdown out how about the offense spread them out everybody spread wide easier to read a defense when you do that they find the match up they want and they get rewarded with the score [Music] lining up for the Pat is on for the extra point and the extra point pushes the lead to 14 they put together a 65 yd drive from the score and they finished things off with an 8yd toss for the score lining up to cover the kick at to that touchdown [Music] [Applause] drive on the move from inside is five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 the cadets have it back his arm he goes back on offense this is when the pressure can ramp up a little bit on an offense David when they start feeling the heat to enter fires into traffic it's picked off didn't get much on the return but what a playing they are in bus at the 26 and I tell you what defense is play Z all eyes are on the quarterback you have a Zone to drop to you're setting on the quarterback reading his eyes great job by the defense understanding the ball was coming out breaks on the football goes and makes the [Applause] [Music] in great spot to start this drive for the offense [Applause] quarterback flips it ahead quickly to the receiver he is going with nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage really good job by the defense seeing it and going and getting nice job understanding the touch pass it could happen those guys go Motion man I got to understand sa's got to see that start flying down getting ready to play that nice job by the defense being ready for that play they'll line up for a second down [Applause] play run the gun running back on the move just a Savvy veteran productive run from this junior and a great job by the offensive line you're going to run the ball right at the middle you better control the line of scrimmage you can see the center of the Guard The Tackle doing a good job getting on their guys just enough where this running back can get into space and make the big game first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning we've reached the two-minute warning and they will try to build on what has already been a dominant first half performance on first down from the 13 yd [Applause] line he's going to pass that's caught it's Johnson and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain I love offenses and quarterbacks that are willing to take the easy stuff to take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five than it is when we start getting those long yarded situations that throwing catch gets them down to the six and the defense is running out of answers I love working this slot receivers you see so much of that it's about matchups right I can put a fast guy in that slot maybe get him matched up on a linebacker or a safety I like working those guys and those matchups favorable for the offense for sure they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal steps away to find some room they'll get him stopped just short of the end zone but they're in business here with a first down the offense waste no time getting the timeout call these quarterbacks that just bounce and bounce and bounce and and pull the ball down and make plays defensively you just got to keep coming you can't get tired um you can't get you can't get frustrated really it's the frustration that gets to you because they keep making play and he's on his way he'll go over away touchdown out well just as you would expect that didn't take very long it didn't Reon you've got to make great field position count when you've got opportunities you got to pay it off and the offense took advantage scoring a touchdown didn't have far to go but they got the points they needed he'll try to tack on one more the extra point and the extra point is true and the lead balloons to 21 so that scoring Drive took only six plays and it was finished off with a 2yd touchdown T kickoff team has the ball teed up and they're about ready to go looking for an alley from inside his own 10 and he's able to pick his way through the traffic nicely for a good return on that one before he's brought down looking to go up top on first down finds the tight end gets it out to the 38 yd line after picking up 10 on that one there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer trying to find his man on first down I don't think that's the way they drew it up [Applause] incomplet here comes the offense on second down wants to throw it's Dy a little screen to the running back nice move to pick up yardage they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some lanes for their running back running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points on the board before the break pulls it in it's short we've got a timeout in the waning seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more plays after the first down completion it's second and short he's looking to throw grab near the marker it's short and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive success just enough time for one final play in this half he's looking to throw it he is brought down and set back that is not the offense's ideal way to finish up the half but we head to the locker room that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with a halftime update gentlemen looks like we've got a great atmosphere today in boa Raton it's been a fun start to this one and this offense has really been the story they've opened up a sizable lead and unless something drastic changes things might get even more out of pain a combination of lethal efficiency and that offensive line has been the key they've mauled that defense and also just about broken their will and with that let's send it back to the guys at Howard schnellenberger field and the Black Knights will try to kick this one deep to get things underway in the second half from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 for Atlantic takes over again and the owls offense will go back to work just gets it to the 28 pick up of one didn't get much on first down it's second and nine to the air it's fer fires into traffic intercepted touchdown Army how about that D coming up with a play like that the DB saw it he thought don't drop it don't drop it then thought don't get caught don't get caught and he didn't the pick six hey these guys can play offense too now look at this I showed you I can be a wide receiver coach might split him out at wide receiver next week after making that big play but defense great job making the interception and you're right doing something with it don't just slide down don't be content take that thing all the way back and after the extra point they're now down 21 to7 that makes the score at 21 they kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six he'll start the return inside his SP and the return man has no place to run no place to hide and a place to be tack the for Atlantic offense will return to the field well the good news is they threw a touchdown pass last time it was just to the wrong team Jesse well that's an unfortunate part of the game for quarterbacks but guess what they do haveen so you've got to be able to turn the page here and Lead this offense well I think you know this defense is going to be aggressive they're going to jump routes they're going to play aggressive you got to take advantage of that maybe use that this time to your advantage after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 they'll run it from the gun across the 25 he's got room and he'll pick up the first down after a tough run there [Music] here's this offense with a fresh set of [Applause] downs little touch pass to the receiver the defense wouldn't let him loose and even though it's in completion they lost yardage the first thing you have to do to make these plays successful offensively is I have to block The Edge I I got to get my speeder in space they didn't do a good job of getting that guy out there in space where he could really use his Jets nice job by the defense understanding it seeing it rallying to it and tackling that guy for a loss power football with the run and they try the middle of this defense and that is not happening great job by the defense everybody firing off the ball hitting their guys holding their gaps running to the football nowhere to go Ball's at the 27 this offense facing a third and long dropping back it's fer looking to scramble and he avoids the hit and slides after the short game well you can tell the QB he drops back and he wants to throw the football he wants to push it down field try to get the first down couldn't do it nobody was open couldn't find anybody took off to scramble great job by the defense reacting to it getting him on the ground stopping him short of the first down Atlantic will send the punt unit onto the field first time we've seen their punt team this afternoon he's got great speed they'll put a stop to that return at about the 37 yd line Army has it back and the offense ready to go wasting no time throwing on this drive fires to the big fella and just a short safe pass away they pick up a few that's a great example of defense there tackling the catch as soon as the big fella caught the ball down he went not picking up the first it's now second down after the short [Applause] completion he's looking to throw unloads to the wide out tremendous awareness along the sideline and the ability to get the foot down for the big pickup and let's hold on just a minute minute here as the officials are going to have a second look and they take another look at the play with the officials on the field we right and the play will [Applause] stand the Run game just has not been working for this offense all game long we saw it on that last play as well just not getting enough push up front on the offensive line they haven't been physical second down coming up they'll power it inside with the fullback that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there third guys this offense is already reeling down multiple possessions really need to cash in on this drive on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it oh that slithered right through his fingers and would have been his second interception of the game instead it's forth down yeah third and sure they choose not to run throw the football and I think a lot of that has to do with they know they're in field goal range they can take the three points on the board the Black Knights will bring the punt team onto the field he's going to try to flip the field with this one excellent job on the punt bounces Out of Bounds at the five and they'll have 95 ydd to go in front of them and he'll pick up one it brings up second and nine BRS up second down kept it on the ground on first down now back to the line looking to throw it's fer and that pass intercepted and he'll be marked down but what a play to come up with that interception I tell you what it puts you in a tough position when you're backed up inside your own 20 trying to come out but when you're a defense and you can force a turnover and you already set your offense up in scoring position they are going to be extremely happy and that offensive coordinator is going to look extremely smart the cadets have it back his army he goes back on offense they had to punt it away on their last possession but man what great field position this time I mean this is awesome like last possession didn't go great now you're set up in an opportunity to get some points start thinking about what plays I like Jesse as I cross the F there are a lot of offensive coordinators out there David and in this position they like to take a shot right away and try and capitalize on this field position defense roll up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming on the option quarterback on the keeper several Defenders there to get him on the ground it's a nice job by this defense that well and they're going to run all kinds of options he's going to run the football they were dialed in got that SU [Music] this defense was put in a difficult spot but they've made it tough and now the offense faces third and goal from the gun wants to pass it falls incomplete he was trying to find his man for six got to give the defense credit on that play taking everything away forcing the incompletion now it's decision time fourth and short in your in field goal range what do you do here it's fourth down and they'll the field goal and this one shouldn't be too taxing a 23 yd try kick is good the offense has three points to show for the drive well it's a good news bad news scenario you got the pick and you would have liked to have paid that off with a touchdown but because the drive stalls out they're still happy to get the field [Music] they'll kick it away after putting up a field goal on that last drive here he comes from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more damic that they get him on the ground at the 20 for Atlantic has the ball back and the offense will try to put together a drive off the play fake on first down wants to throw shoots it to the left all kinds of room to throw that one in there and they'll pick up the first down and Mark it at the 47 man if I'm a defense I got to find a way to get some more pressure on the quarterback or disrupt their timing and their Rhythm I can't give them these big chunk plays through the air I got to be maybe a little bit more aggressive or do something a little bit different the owls moving quickly to the line [Applause] he'll come out throwing on first down snagged in the middle H Moore and he laid the lumber to stop him from getting the first down second [Music] [Applause] and guys Florida Atlantic is on top they're sitting in a strong position here with the lead let's take a look at our game summary not only is the scoreboard on their side but so too is time as we open the fourth that play just never had a chance a knock him down for a loss of five and that's a great job by the defense understanding exactly the situation understanding to stay home play sound no matter who gets the football we're going to run to the football hard we're going to cage the football be disciplined nice job by the defense third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they he's going for it all makes the Grabel on the left sideline for the huge game touchdown out Le the grab and finish the deal on the end zone there's no mercy rule in college football man theyve got a huge lead here in the fourth quarter they are still chucking it and they are still scoring [Music] [Music] they'll try to add another to their lead point and now with the extra point they're up by 18 here in the fourth quick work on that scoring drive just four plays in The Finisher coming on a touchdown pass from 52 yds out the kickoff unit about to go to work and he takes this from inside the five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 Army has it back and the offense ready to go they're going to have to be more aggressive in this drive you can't expect to win this one David kicking field goals no especially when you're trailing you got to have a little more urgency and maybe a little more aggressiveness Jesse and field goals are not going to get it done down the stret yeah you're going to have to take some shots no doubt bottom line when plays present themselves you've just simply got to make them line getting set on second down [Applause] off the play fake fires to the wide out incomplete Advance he lucky to get that one back defense that close to an interception and that's just the kind of game it's been for this quarterback in this offense you got a great game plan all week long you're watching it throughout practice you think you're going to have a chance to light up the scoreboard but they're just not able to hook up you've got to give this defense a ton of credit they've done a great job in coverage they've been breaking on passes they've had their number and that's why they're leading by as much as they are to throw it's Dy the sweet feet keeping the play alive and they'll shove him out of bounds after the short game yeah and the QB decided to take it himself he got a little bit of pressure you can see and decided to take off scramble and couldn't get the first down and now it's Fourth Down decision time no matter where it is on the field or what the distance is you know there's a chance we still might go for it coach has no choice here the offense has to stay on the field down multiple possessions this leate fourth down attempt coming and the Black Knights get it past the sticks I think we're going to see more and more of this in college football it used to be that if it was fourth in inches and you're on your own side of the field you automatically punt but I like that play call there with their offensive line and their ability to run the football just go out and get it and keep the drive alive the back goes in motion off the play fake on first down to throw he's going up top it's complete a huge pickup and he'll ramble to the 34 before he's finally knocked down and the best thing about this the offense can't worry about the scoreboard just keep trying to make plays like that Jesse I know a lot of people in the stadium probably feel like this game is over maybe it's been over for a while or east but don't tell that to this quarterback and his teammates they're still out there scrapping and Pla going up top on first down it's complete on the right side and an absolutely Fearless tackle giving up sze still got him on the turf well here's the problem offensively because you're trailing by so much so late in the game the defense now is going to be playing big Zone coverages and they're going to allow you to throw the ball underneath in the middle of the field rally to make a tackle and bleed the clock it's going to be hard now for this offense to claw their way back in this one and it'll be incomplete this is some physical pass defense at this point of the game in the fourth quarter it is going to be tough for this offense to get some completions here because now trailing by this much the defense is expecting pass and they're putting a whole bunch of extra DBS on the field to help them out in coverage after the second down misfire looking at a third and eight they're going to throw it again looking to the big tight end it's complete and he's into the end zone touchdown Black Knights wa can can I get the director to give me a replay of that I want to count the Defenders one two three I there's no way they had 11 right I mean that that is frustrating defensively what are you taught like make him earn it right play play Man Press up on him make him earn it make him go the length of the field don't give up big plays or just give up big plays and don't have anybody in the camera shot and don't have anybody there to even miss a tackle they want to see if they can score the deuce to the air it's Dy throws to the back and that one is picked off in the end zone the so good that keeps the score Florida Atlantic 28 Army 16 about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown set to kick this one away he'll take three turn try to get better field position he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 to Atlantic takes over again and the owls offense will go back to work the give to the running back from the shotgun and a really nice run and pick up there before the defense avoided disaster and stopped the really big play and I think if you're the head coach defensively now obviously you've got three timeouts in your back pocket you're trailing at this point and the offense is going to be running the football trying to bleed the clock they're going to take as much time off the game clock as they can before snapping it you've got to start thinking about using some of those [Applause] timeouts he's got an open man and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup such a tough spot to be in on defense because you're trailing You're Expecting the offense to run the football they just did it on the last play and then on a critical third down they go play action and they throw it over your head you got to feel for this defense they'll line up right at the 48 yd line on First and 10 they'll keep it on the ground trying to milk the clock at the 35 he's got room and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pick up these situations are preached so much in college football finishing a game strong understanding circumstances they are running the football right at you trying to keep that clock moving get a few first downs and get a w [Applause] receiver shows motion looks as if they didn't get it off in time it'll be a delay of game delay of game offense the quarterback just lost track of the play clock didn't get the snap off quickly [Applause] enough able to pick his way forward for a decent game before the defense gets him down third up we reached the two-minute warning and this offense is that much closer to salting away a victory ordinarily on second and 10 you might look past but here you just want to keep that clock [Applause] moving from the gun they'll give it on the inside he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense this third down play might be the last chance for this defense to stay in the game and how about that alertness and that swarming D to keep him from getting the first down defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense 38 and they'll have to settle for a field goal try and very important not only to generate power but to find his Mark a 49 yd try from the left and the kicker delivers the three to salvage that drive and now the lead is even bigger [Music] so after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it away on the run from inside of own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the gadet have it back his army he goes back on offense to the air on first down throws to the white out and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down that's a throw that QB would like to have back he just has to do a better job giving his receiver a chance to make the catch after the misfire now on second down back to pass it's Dy they're bringing Heat and the defense makes a play sacking him back at the 10 these are the perfect situations you love to be in no passing situations these are not where the offensive tackles want to be and when you're on the edge and there's no threat of the Run P your ears back get the nice first down set Indie Car tempo as they head to the line for this third down play clock running finds his man it's Reynolds and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down and Def L this is exactly what you want right you got the big leads so you can play Big Zone coverages just keep the ball in front of you keep your eye on the quarterback rally to the football gain tackle you're going to win this game down
