question with Superstar athlete and U old dog I'mma pass to you man introduce Our Guest man we hey today man is a spe is a special day we got the young boy man uh little little little bro nephew I got introduced to this young man from my man my little brother it's actually his birthday shout out to Antoine be his birthday he turned 40 um he said oh man I got a little I got I got a younger man that's really trying you know that's about that life man that can Boogie and uh I had did my research on him and knew he was moving around doing good things and um yeah man it's the it's the one and only man Kenny gu of Howard University's own come down from that good good that that good VA down there on that water and we just want to say man hey to all our listeners and viewers man we got the the defensive player the year to M how University my man Kenny Gallop in the show today what's power yes sir appreciate that fellas appreciate that appreciate you man and we also appreciate you because you've been watching the show have hitting us with the comments and stuff like that for a while now so we we appreciate the support man and and we wanted to give you your flowers and give you a platform I come from a HBCU even though you know we got our love hate relationship that's another story but um you know we need to give our young athletes especially coming from HBCU more platforms so they can get their story out there and they can talk about what it is that they got going on so we just want to say thank you so much for taking a little bit of time before you go to training camp before you go to camp and I wanted to make sure that I give you opportunity to tell your story get your story out there so our listeners and our followers can they they can support you and they can follow your story to make sure that you out here making plays because if you not making plays we gonna fire your ass up believe that gota worry about that man that's right that's right that what I'm talking about you know facts so hey look let's let's jump right into it ca because I know our viewers and listeners want to know all about Kenny and and get and get into the nuts both of this conversation so Kenny we always like to start from the from the roots from the beginning so we know you're Kenny Gallop Howard University Superstar defensive back but what we want to know starting off like when when did a football get placed in your hand or when did you know football was a was a sport that you wanted to take and use as a tool to get you to where you are today right right right so a little bit about myself you know like like my man o said um coming from the tile water part of Virginia portsman Virginia end up picking up a football right end up picking up a football seven years old man know playing for the pman in City Lions yes sir you know I I kind of fell in love with the game ever since you know throughout middle school and throughout high school you know I was a u multisport athlete so I was playing baseball playing football was playing basketball you know ran a little track and you know really my favorite sport growing up was basketball I used to think I was John Wall hey look I was hey we got we got a basketball this joint you can't hey hey but look hey but look Kenny you just made me feel old as [ __ ] you just said Jo you growing up you looked up to John W I said godamn you know this growing up you know you from that child Water Area you know me I was you know playing for Boo Williams end up um playing with guys who on the pronoun like cam Thomas who play for the Brooklyn Nets so you know I was growing up I thought it was nice you know and then that ebl circuit kind of humbled me you know I you know on my high school you know I was you know averaging you know 12 13 maybe as a professional but then I played on that National level that National circuit you know was guys you know I used to played against Jaylen green played for the Rockets you know played against guys like that they was just nice man so you know what you know my pops he told me man you know football you know that's going to be your meal ticket so I end up you know sticking with that and you know here I am the day absolutely absolutely so Kobe got into like your your Youth and your childhood now I want to get into out of all this cuz you sound like an athlete man you play basketball obviously M player the year why Howard why not another University um so you know I was going to tell this story you know a little bit later on but I'm not going to say it now um coming up in high school man you know I wasn't really heavily recruited so Howard University was actually my you know first and only division one scholarship coming out of high school um a guy named Ron Prince God knows I don't know where he at right now because he was fired before I even stepped foot on campus but that's the guy you know gave me the opportunity you know to play you know at the Collegiate level um you know I never I didn't mean to cut you off shout out Prince gentlemen folks like that giving young men opportunities to go out here and chase their dreams and going out here and provide and get them to that next level so I don't know where you at that but shout out to you champ go ahead kg so yeah that was you know that was um you know my family and I we end up going out DC now mind you you know I didn't really know about you know Howard really I didn't know anything really about hcu you know I just always told myself I wanted to go D1 and um you know they end up giving me a scholarship man you know I end up disc committing maybe about a month later after they gave me the scholarship and you know the rest you know the rest is history absolutely okay that's what's up man I I I got a question for you man even though you know I I I know this but for our listeners and viewers man talk a little bit about you know I know you said Howard University was one of the only ones you know what I'm saying as far as to give you opportunity as far as D1 scholarship but just talk about as far as the tide waterer area and there so much competition down there in high school right right in the you know the little leagues man it just seems like man it's so much competition down there but it's also you know you got Port Smith where you at you got the ti water and then you know just talk a little bit about that you know what I'm saying as far as that competition down there and some of the greats that come through you know the Tide Water Area and stuff like that right that's 7 right so the same F like you said you know it's definitely split up um you know you know I'm from porland but you got you know the big cities you know like Northfork Virginia Beach you know who normally you know get recruited more you know recruited at a higher level you know the college coaches you know love you know checking them schools out before the small City you know like a small City like por and then you got you know right then you got the peninsula side you know where my you know big bro Antoine bet from uh you know Mike vid you got Allan Aon you got guys over there really my mom she from downtown Newport News so you got them cities over there as well that shout out to Mom Dukes shout out to Mom Dukes for sure but she you know them cities over there you know you got also you got competition over there man but you know I really would say you know me coming up and and it's still like that today you know I feel like you know a lot of por you know athletes be underrated you know cu the city you know the main fact that right now there been like a lot of crime so when you think of for you know that's what they really think about you know so you know me I just try to leave by example salute salute and the transition to I mean that transition but just to kind of follow up on Omar's question he he stated that there's so much talent coming out to to water those Seven Cities um down there um who who was the person that motivated you the most or that you looked up to and wanted to pattern your game after or or or idolized um coming from that area I would say for me what you know had me kind of believe in the athlete he didn't play football but he in the NBA right now is Dori and Finny Smith okay yes sir you know dodo you know he uh actually he played for the Nets right now you know played with the Mavericks at first but you know to him coming from por and just you know kind of being around from around the corner you know to seeing the things he had to go through you know it kind of gave me hope with like yo you know if he can go to college and do this and that shoot so can I you know so that was probably the first person you know you know of course you I looked up the guys like you know cam Chancellor Percy Harvin you know Mike V all but I didn't I didn't know him or the na they wasn't from por so the seeing Doran fny Smith you know come from an area where I come from it was kind of like it was it was big for me so that be the guy say like you know oh I bet I can you know I can do it too nice awesome hey I got a quick question for you so I'm stay on college for you so with nil money flying around and a lot of disloyal people I see you going back to how was there a lot of pressure to leave I mean you are the player defensive player of the year um you know to be honest with you man since this this the No Cap you know Sports show yeah it is keep that [ __ ] you know it was man you know you had a lot of you know coaches you know hitting me up dming me uh you know things like that man but you know reality I know you know my main focus you know was to really graduate you know I know if I would have transferred and things like that it would have you know messed you know messed up my credits and a whole bunch of stuff man you know and I kind of told my mom that I you know I graduate from Howard so that was you know you know a choice that I made but then also you know I got a little brother that's on the team and I said why not try to rock out with him my last year so you know them two things right there you know was the you know the main focus and you know you know helped me decide to stay back okay absolutely respect for that answer man respect appreciate that boss go ahead Cole so look so you chose Howard enter in Howard your freshman year what that what was that experience like you leaving TI water for the first time I I assume and you come to a new city entering into Howard University historical black college um what was that experience like on the field and off well let me say this man I don't want to make this you know feel crazy man I'm I'm a CO baby man so Co hit you know my senior year at high school you know I Ain have no prom you know I ain't have you know no real graduation and you know it kind of affected you know my first year in college so you know when they decided to bring us up here I want to say like December 22nd I mean December 27th of 2020 and they tried to like a spring covid year and so what we end up doing man we end up practicing in the cold every day nobody on campus we get um a covid test four times a week and you know for real for real was like Dam this is worth just playing some football we didn't even know we was going to play every time we tried to play it was cancelled and then we end up just doing like a Expedition game for um against Delaware state two times and that's why I end up having like an extra Co year or whatever so you know my first year man it was it was it was it was kind of weird man cuz when nobody on campus wasn't no social life classes online and you know we just playing ball you know you got masks over your nose you know with the heling on so it was just a lot you know a lot of things going through my mind that time a lot of people don't understand that man that you know you coming from you know your senior year was affected too and a lot of that probably came through as far as with me dealing with my youngest as far as training them and stuff like that you guys dealt with a lot of uh not the recruiting process right those College those coaches couldn't get out and check out those games and then some of you guys didn't even have a senior year so hats off to you and salute to you brother because that joint was you know I know the youngest that was going through it I had about 10 15 seniors you know Rising seniors that didn't get it opportunity then they tried to make it up in the spring and things like that so it's a testimony to you and your you know your perseverance and what it is that you was trying to do with that being said that second year when when School po back off and and and and everybody's back I want to know how was it when the first time you made that left hand turn and you walked on that yard and that thing was rocking on a Wednesday you know what I'm saying and it's springtime and it's crazy out there you he me it's crazy did you make it to the cafeteria or did you stop on the [ __ ] and say hold up going nowhere hey man keep it was crazy it was definitely crazy man I say man man we I want to say that summer cuz you like I say so when my class actually did come up you know it was two classes my class is been technically the class you know that's younger than me it was technically two classes that was really freshing their first time on campus man it was crazy man you know all this was around summertime around Camp time man so I never foret we stand in the towers and they over there baning field and all you can hear is the the Beat Just rolling the music playing you look out the window you see a whole whole bunch of people man it was it was crazy man and it was like dang like this this really Howard man then you know I fell in love with Howard ER since man that's what's up brother salute man salute salute real so being that you uh was this position that you play now the position you always played and in the position you in now who do you model your game after right so to be honest with you man you know I I used to talk smack the old because I I felt like you know I probably was a I knew I was a better running back than he was when he was in high school I feel like I feel like I was a better officer if if if I if y'all would have known me four or five years from now and you would have told me hey man you know you gonna play defense I had the accolades man I wouldn't believe you you know um when I was getting recruited I know Navy was recruiting me as well and I remember I took a visit to Navy and I never forget you know we taking the pictures um you know how you know the visit pictures or whatever and they you know they told me getting the DB stands I was confused because to be honest the recruiting coordinator at Navy he was Navy's quarterback coach I know I want no quarterback so I mean he never made it clear like hey we want you to play defense he was hey we interested we love your game you know this and that so I'm thinking in my mind well he the quarterback coach you know they want me a running back so they was they were you know that was the first time man I felt like I was a better you know player on offense and um you know here I am today and you know who I model my game after that's a lot man that's a lot man I love sa that kind of like fly around you know say a couple of say a couple of them first I I go B Sanders I I watch B Sanders highlights before every game B Sanders gotta be number one and then maybe my man cam cam Chancellor you know I love how cam play was big and physical and then you know really did some finesse I I used to love tro I used to love tro palalo too he was just Relentless man so them three right there they were just Relentless Me growing up and trying to learn to you know the safety position that's what I used to watch so uh Kenny obviously you as the Mak defensive player of the year so I looking at your stats this year compared to the year before and the be honest your your stats look very similar um you you had three interceptions compared to zero you know the year before but um where where do you see your game um differs from from the year before the prior year to to now what do you think you're better defensive player did what was it that the Mak saw in you to make you a defensive player of the year man you know and my my coaches always tell me man you want to get paid you got to take that ball away man so you know after that 2022 season you know I really you know just focus on my um you know just forcing turnovers man you know forcing taking interceptions I my 2022 season man I dropped two I I dropped 200 opportunities left two plays on the field you know I felt that I could have picked off and I didn't so you know that kind of bothered me you know really throughout the whole offseason man so I would working ball skills and you know things like that you know it kind of helped me you know throughout this sh you know even it was really even an article on ESPN where they had you know they were just saying like yeah man you know he's a great tackler whatever but he haven't forced no no turnovers so that was you know one of the biggest things that you know kind of motivated me shout out to Jordan Reed for you know posting that out cuz that was you know something I needed and I was my focus in the 2023 year was just taking the ball away yeah and speaking of that before I pass it over to to the fellas um one of the games that stood out for me and I did some research to look up the game the white watch watch a little bit of it was uh the game versus Nori State you know I mean I think that was a statement game for you because uh you had 11 tackle six solo and um you also had a a last second U interception to sell that thing so uh can you walk us through that game like what you know what was your mindset going into that game and you know one of your one of the schools that's from the ti water did that give you extra motivation walk us through it right man so you'll say you know you know it's still give that sour tast mouth it's being from you know por and North literally five minutes from the crib um my father attended you know tended north of State he know the athletic direct matter of fact I was just talking you know to the former athl director uh Marty Miller um just saying you know how stupid they were not to offer me you know yeah abely but to be honest with you man that week preparing for nor I didn't practice with P so we played Harvard the week before and and I I hit a dude and I hit my head kind of like on the bleachers and they we was we was getting we was getting blown out Harvard they were blowing us out and they were like n man you need to chill and they said you know I said I got up floow and the trainer kind of label me as you know concussion put me through concussion protocol and the whole week I didn't practice so I'm mad so I'm getting you know mental reps you know I'm all way in the back this going know what I do you know they was making seem like I wasn't going to play and then I end up getting clear that Friday and the walk through so the whole week I didn't tackle nothing I didn't hit nothing I didn't have no live rep so I'm I'm going in the game already man then also it's already home coming too so we already turned so it's it's a whole you know whole bunch of things that's going through my mind man so you know you got you got 25 yeah you got 25 30 50 people at the game home so I can only imagine but that's the one question I wanted you know talk I was going to say too how did Hampton in North State V all these well I think it's just Hampton North State and some other D1 schools down how did they let you get out of there you know but I know you said it was you know the recruiting and then obviously I got obviously it was because one of the major things was the covid situation but I'm just like man for I mean they I mean those athletic directors and coaches man they got to be they got to jump off the woodro Wilson on that one like how how could you no not seriously though no seriously every great program every great program what they try to do from the coaches that I've talked to and people you gotta try to you gotta try to at least try to keep the players at home in your hometown at home leave don't let you gota at least try so my thing is so my thing is if it's co and and I'm walking and I'm going to these schools and I'm recruiting and I see that man they ain't man I'm rolling out the carpet like man we going not only are we G we gonna lay out the red we gonna put the red carpet out and we gonna build help build our program around this young man see what I'm saying but that's yeah so I'm like well real quick before we move on and you know we chop it up or whatever I I you know H how did that go like nobody reached out to you from Hampton or or you know North nothing it was it was crazy man because North for State I remember I got the Howard offer and then I went to say I went to North State like Prospect Camp the next week and I was at DB I was labeled their best DB like I don't know you know what I did wrong you know my head coach at at the time high school head coach Don CH Leonard would tell y'all man you know we still everybody still talks about like I just said the former athletic director Marty Miller who was my father's baseball coach and Offa State we was just talking about it at media day in Offa it was just one of those you know like like what was y'all doing man you know so they dropped the say was a blessing that I didn't go there so hey you know I be where I'm at now yeah you you said the clean version I'mma say the other version [ __ ] him you know what I'm saying at the end of the day that's de law so let let your uncle let your Uncle O say I got you I say I'll be the bad guy no problem you already know for sure so you had an outstanding 2023 obviously right so what are you doing this year to turn up even more this is this is your coming out party Scout is looking what you what you doing this year oh man you know I just really been you know locked in man it really just been like a more um I say by Mentor my mindset has been a lot different man you know I really you know my man oh you know vouch you know I'm not really worried about what's going on really with HBCU ball man you know I I consider myself one of the best players in the country that's FCS or FBS man so really for me it just really been that mindset man I like when I met o you know I I hit up my man AB you know just tell like man look you know anybody in the area I'm trying to get extra work after I um winner lifts I said man I'm I'm I'm really trying to I'm really trying to get to that next level and you know that's one of the ways you know how that's how really how I met o through ab and you know I was just grinding man from January you know to now you know just and then I'm doing also little things like to take care of my body man like you know I took a little Pates class been in yoga so I really just been locked in trying to do the little things you know just to help me out that can help me uh improve my skills on the field a and and Kenny speaking of speaking of ab how impactful has that relationship been for you because listening to your story your story sound very similar to AB so what type of uh advice have he given you what type of impact has he made on your your student athlete career for those I mean to cut you up hold on K for for those that don't know AB you know we saying his nickname AB we talking about Antoine B power university great hall of fame um you know what I'm saying so forth and so forth so that's that's what we talking about to all our listeners and viewers sometimes we get on here and we chop it up we say AB nephew little bro whatever because he is family he is you know what I'm saying of the No Cap Sports Show podcast but go ahead kg i i a mean to interrupt just wanted to let our listeners viewers know for for those that didn't know you know what I'm saying as far as the nickname AB go ahead bro but no uh to answer your question man you know AB man you know he he been very impactful man I I you know when I want to say after the 2021 season I don't know how but like it popped up like a clip of you know his highlights you know it was on my you know on my on my Twitter feed and I'm like man like bro when really he went to Howard but you know he also you know played a long career then I realized like dang like shoot he from the 7572 like what he did that's what I'm trying to do so I'm like [ __ ] I'mma try to hit him up you know and to be honest I be real with you be hon with you I thought he was gonna be Hollywood like a mother W I'm I'm say I'mma say look man what's good with you um you know just a that's a young you know from the same area as you went to the same College as you and just trying to go where you went you know any you know any feedback any you know mental physical things I can do that can help me you know get to the next level and bro hit me back right away and there since then it was like the respect was just there like Dam like he really hit me back right away he just said yo this my number call me so I end up chopping it up with him and you know just the little things just being about being a pro man that I never knew nobody at my school was doing it nobody was trying to take care of their body nobody was trying to stretch you know before practice or after practice nobody was trying to hop in the ice BS nobody was talking about film watching extra film to be honest I didn't know none of this and so you know just adding it you know that part to my game where he kind of taught me man shoot I went from you know all confer to All America so it was it was one of them man you know and I thank him all the time you know I wish text him today was his birthday so happy birthday to him you know thank you thank you for everything you know he did for me that's that's awesome and look obviously you was the Mi defensive player of the year what would make this upcoming season more successful than last season man for me man to make it more successful you know of course I want to do the same thing but end of the day I'm just trying to I'm trying to just win a celebration Bowl you know the uh HBCU National Championship try to you know just go out with a bang man so they can really you know just remember the Legacy you know I can just check everything off the box I you know I can say I did it all so that thing right there man that that'll make everything for me that's what's up all right go ahead money mo you got it go ahead now what advice would you give to another young kid that's in high school right now that might be dealing with that same type of situation um you know maybe looked over by their Hometown maybe not getting the office they need what advice would you give them man I just tell them you know you know stay working but also just remember you just need one school man you need one school to believe in you man and you gota also you got to really just you got to want of yourself you can't you know depend on nobody try to push you you know your your family members shouldn't have to push you your coaches should have to push you you really got to you know want to do it yourself and you know to be honest with you you know if you really put your mind to things man you know you can really achieve it man and that's something you know I really did you know I kind of told myself you know that I was going to do what I'm doing now and I still write goals now to this day so I can achieve it and push myself so you know that's that's why I tell them for sure one last one last question um kg before we switch topics we want to keep you on the show and we gonna talk about some different things the Olympics and up you know all kinds of other good stuff so we want to get your opinion on that as well we don't we not just interviewing we want you to be a part of this show because this is your platform so we want you to stay with us and rock out with us or whatever um but what are your I know we already you talked about it a little bit CO as you whatever but talk a little bit about being a HBCU school and playing against some of these power five schools uh you know in the upcoming schedule you know um because back when I played years and years ago we never had that opportunity to play against the University of M we never had that opportunity to play against the Northwestern or the Boston colleges or whatever the case may be we pretty much just played against HBCU schools so just talk about the opportunity and you know you know not necessarily the the difference in the play but the difference in the atmosphere when you go to these big time schools these power five schools talk a little bit about it and also talk a little bit about you know what you being you know to our listeners and viewers he you know he is you know I I can say it for you you know he is uh the pre-season 2024 uh Defensive Player of the Year allamerican such such such I'mma give you your flowers kg so it won't seem like you bragging so I brag for you nephew um and stuff like that or whatever so you know it's okay you know what I'm saying um to talk about those things or whatever the case may be so just talk a little bit about that just talk a little bit about having that opportunity because some of the HBCU don't have that opportunity you know what I'm saying but Howard University I do salute them for that because they have changed it up and switched the narrative a little bit you know what I'm saying playing the University of Maryland playing I mean I I think what y'all play two or three power two power five teams this year you know playing against a playing against a Ivy League school har University and stuff like that so just talk a little bit about that before we switch topics oh you know man you know for me man be exciting man you know you know everybody knows you know you coming from the HBCU and you know you had them games like that man you know I consider them money games man yes sir get a chance to show and prove that you know you can play with the best you know I really believe you know I can play with the best so you know for me it's a citer um just seeing you know walking in their stadiums you know as a kid you know to be honest you know everybody dream of playing in that big stadium so this being getting a chance to actually Live Your Dream and playing on a highest level of college football man you know for me it' be excited you know it turned me up and then also you know that nine out of really 10 out of 10 the other 10 they don't respect you so you know you know it get you you know it gets you excited like you get to punch somebody in the mouth you know that they don't they don't you nice you know even though you know maybe I might be legendary and nice in this HBCU level you know and they mind they don't care and I know they don't care so you know it's it's it's it's my job and my duty to show them like yeah like I can bump with y'all too man so you know for me I'm excited you know we start off uh we start off with Ruckers this year you know Big 10 uh Network Thursday night game you know yes sir night game at spot so for me I'm excited you know last year we end up we end up playing a G5 Eastern Michigan you know we lost the them back 10 off special teams you know we dominated we had more rushing passing yards whatever total offense than them you know then Northwest we played them at they home coming we lost by three points man so from us me just being a leader and preaching that other guys like shoot you know they they put their pants on just like us they ain't no and so that's how that's our mentality coming you know against this this Ruckers team you know who pretty solid don't get me wrong but you know we ready that's what's up real quick besides Ruckers what's the other power five do you just Ruckers or R it's just Ruckers so they end up changing it was supposed to play weight fours but weight end up backing I want to say they they playing incat now okay so we end up you know so we end up playing um to be honest we playing this team called Mercy hurt who I I really don't know who they are to be honest I never well Mercy Mercy hurt looking at the opportunity just like you looking at Ruckers so remember that a [ __ ] at Mercy hurt that that that's like yeah kg this dude Kenny Gallop you know he on the watch list of the of the East West sh uh Senior Bowl top 1,00 players sh I'mma show I'mma when I get an opportunity I'm I'm gonna go at him so I'mma show each and every one of them Scouts and them people there at the end of the day I can Boogie too I might be a D2 school I might be a D3 school but you got to look at it like that you know what I'm saying you know yeah you got to look at it like that for sure so but but that's dope though you know what I
