welcome back to trans guy reacts my name is Nick and I make videos about women's basketball Collegiate or professional and today I'm going to be talking about the WNBA game for Saturday August 31st there was only one game on today but I do you want to go over it really quickly um there was one transaction that happened today the Los Angeles Sparks did release Odyssey Sims um it didn't say if they're going to resign her but I imagine they will so um I imagine tomorrow or Monday there will be an update about them signing her to another contract but we will see um as for the game it was the Connecticut Sun versus the Washington Mystics um uh it was also Britney syes bobblehead Knight so pretty exciting game for her um and the the mystics are ranked like number 10 out of 12 in the league but they were on like a three- game winning streak so this was kind of a you know a momentum building game for them um three in a row is pretty impressive especially when you're like ranked number 10 uh the sun are like ranked number two so they didn't need to win this game they're already um they they already um what do you call it um are clinched for the playoffs so they didn't it's not a game they needed to win but it's always good for the standings so um all right so the first uh first quarter it was a great game great start to the game for Britney syes she was really going off and so for Dean and Carrington as well she also had a really strong start um but if you like compared it it was definitely a stronger start overall from the Connecticut Sun the first quarter end ended 20 to 14 um in the second quarter a Alyssa Thomas goes down during a collision with Karly samelson um Carly Sam Samson's brace like clipped Alysa Thomas's knee and Alyssa Thomas went down in a lot of pain it did not look good they had to take her to the back of the locker room she did come back but she did not play um uh so also what I noticed during the second the first and second quarter was some really questionable calls from the refs and like things like you know uh ref's not understanding what's a jump ball and what's a foul um calling a foul when when a player didn't touch the other person they just they saw it from behind and called it a foul just really infuriating things that I've said many times about the refereeing in the W is just really inconsistent and frankly trash it's just not good um but anyway uh later on the game uh Britney syes does this monster block against Olivia Nelson ad DOTA looked very pretty and Britney syes and ol Aaliyah Edwards the rookie Aaliyah were playing really well in the second quarter uh and it was a pretty tight quarter it was 45 to 42 going into the third quarter There's 7 minutes and 43 seconds left and Sykes goes down she goes up for a layup on a drive and just turns her ankle by herself unfortunately you know it's really frustrating cuz she's been injured so often this season and in previous Seasons as well um they had to carry her off the court she was like in that much pain um but she plays really hard so it's not surprising but um yeah just kind of disappointing it's you know it's her bobblehead night it's her night and um yeah she she had to go out um uh there was a point too where the commentators did mention that Alyssa Thomas did come back to sit at the bench for the sun I don't believe she played for the rest of the game um but when the camera person panned to go to to look at Alyssa Thomas they showed Veronica Burton like what the dude they don't even look alike and this happens all the time in the league like they'll talk about a player then the camera person will put it on the the wrong person or whoever's in the audio visual Department who's directing the cameras doesn't know Who's Who and it's really frustrating and it's not like I would say like oh it's only happening to black players cuz it does happen to a lot of black players but there's more black players than not uh in the league but no it happens to everyone like they do this to every every team and I don't know what is going on behind the scenes but like these audio visual people don't know who's who and it's it's frustrating it's it's really frustrating but anyway um anyway with Sykes gone out of the the game the sun start to go on a pretty pretty impressive lead they rack it up up to like 14-point lead the mystics were trying really hard to chip away at it but I felt like they were taking way too many threes and they made some of the threes like Steph Dolson was making some awesome threes but they missed a lot of Threes as well so it was just like not very helpful and at the end of the third quarter it was 76 to 62 um going to the fourth quarter Britney Sykes does come back into the game um but it's just a little too late you know she's not play She's cold she's not playing exactly the same way she was um and the mics were trying to cut on the lead and they tried they got it down a little bit but but at the end of the day the sun did hang on and it was 96 to 85 so that was today's game let me just go quickly over the um box score uh for the Washington Mystics Britney Sykes had nine points like I said she wasn't able to play a significant amount of time so uh not a lot of points for her Aliyah Edwards also had 9.6 rebounds um Stephanie Dolson had 14.7 rebounds pretty good night for her uh Ariel Atkins had 15 points um uh Emily inler had 12 points she's been really consist consist lately loving loving her game and umor Walker Kimble had eight and then a couple of people had six points Jade Melbourne Carly Samson SAA K they all had six points looking at the Connecticut Sun danana Bonner had 16 points um uh Brianna Jones had uh 12 points D Carrington had 17 points really consistent great outing for her um and four steals four steals a lot of lot of steals that today um Taisha Harris had 16 points six assists five rebounds um Marina ma had 21 points she is playing exceptionally well I think she had six rebounds and five assists uh two Steals and um Veronica Burton had eight Olivia Nela DOTA had six and yeah Alyssa Thomas because she got hurt was only in the game for about six minutes so she didn't have any points so uh but there even even with Alissa Thomas out of the game they were able to deliver I mean having Marina ma have bring that kind of Firepower is just so so necessary and uh
