Starting something new can be scary. Especially when that new thing is the first day of kindergarten students at Reiki Elementary. It's part of the Portland public schools had a practice first day as New Center remains. Ray Wooten tells us those students might be a little more ready now for the new Year. So I have to turn my lights on and I drive, I have my lights on. I have my master switch on to make sure you're safe. It may look like a real first day of school and we're just gonna go around the block. But for Reiki Elementary's new kindergarten students, this bus ride is just a test run. So what we do now, we're back at school, go open your door. It's one of many daily routines that they'll be experiencing for the first time in this room. That means freeze after the bus comes the classroom full of kids and teachers. They don't know yet. Some may be slow to warm up to a new place without their parents nearby. I'm a little scared if you can give me a me too or a thumbs up anyone else but others like little bartholomew and IPs are ready to get the year going. How are you feeling before I even started school? I was so excited. She couldn't wait yesterday. She came with me and said daddy, I can't wait to go to my house. And although some students may struggle with language barriers, working to start a new year in a new place. Insanely learning English for the first time. Kindergarten teacher, Miss Amy Wu is ready to meet them where they are. You saw the way he did the chime, you don't need to know English to respond to that. You're watching your peers. I use the students to teach each other a lot. Um So once you get a few students understanding what you need, they, they will come, they want to be their peers. Teachers like Miss Wu say their goal is to make sure kindergarten students feel comfortable and their parents feel supported and just everyone wants the same thing which is success for their child. And after Wednesday's test run, Reiki, kindergarten students are ready for everything day. One of kindergarten has to bring in Portland New Center Maine. Good luck tomorrow. And hopefully they're all sleeping well tonight after that first day.
