[Music] my expectations are I do three events high jump long jump in the 100 meter gold in the high jump and a medal in the 100 meter and in the long jump as well so walking home with three pieces of hardware and one of those chains will be gold yeah that's a good point I mean to be honest I had the confidence before that I walked off the track in Tokyo in fifth place and my dad looked at me I was unbelievably devastated and he said you're the world champion got to act like it you're the world champion so every day I would tell myself I'm the world champion this is what the world champion does everything I was doing driving to school getting food this is what the world champion does I said it so many times I convinced myself that I was the world champion and then sure enough when World Championships rolled around the world champion does nothing but win the world championship and therefore you have to believe you're capable of something before you can do it and for me that's my mentality after I won the world title I was sitting there in the media row doing all these interviews think man this is great but I got to do it again next year I'm the paralympic Champion so now I've been saying that all throughout the day I go to bed saying it I wake up in the morning saying it I'm training and I'm saying it I'm the Paro Olympic champion and the par Olympic champion wins gold at the Paro Olympic Games I was born with one finger on my left hand I had a lower left leg that was curved in and towards my waist I had surgery at about 3 years old and I amputated the leg right at the knee took the big toe and put it onto my left hand so I went from having one finger to then getting a second one I could pick things up I could hold things but then getting a stump now that could fit into a prosthetic much easier than before I grew up playing just about every sport there was basketball soccer football whatever was in season I was playing it at about 11 years old I had an outof Body Experience Epiphany type moment where I decided that I wanted to be a par Olympian because I was watching the Rio 2016 par Olympic Games I committed to myself that I would be the greatest par Olympian of all time and then I everything I do in my life is to get me a step closer to that goal so at the end of the day winning gold medals break World Records is amazing it's fun I hope to build an amazing Legacy but what's more impactful for me is what goes beyond the sport I want to use Sports as a catalyst to normalize disability change the way we view disability destigmatize disability and the gold medals the world records are a step in that direction the way we continue to expand the spotlight on paralympic Sports is through what you guys are doing it's through the media it's through athletes storytelling it's through the eyeballs the audience that will hopefully Elevate the brands of the athletes so that we have eyeballs all throughout the quad not just around the Paralympics and then the eyeballs around the Paralympics are magnified even more and when the games come to La I think we have the opportunity to really change that change that ecosystem change the landscape and I think this run up to Paris is perfect I couldn't be set up better for us to truly change the way the United States looks at the par Olympic Games thanks for watching the U interview Channel with over 3,000 original celebrity videos we have one of the largest collections of celebrity interviews anywhere so remember to like and comment on our videos and subscribe to to the channel if you want to get more involved you can become a member of the channel membership has its perks you can see exclusive celebrity videos and get the opportunity to ask our celebrity guests questions we can't wait to hear from you [Music]
