"They were 2 great individuals" Former Philadelphia Flyer Bernie Parent remembers Gaudreau brothers

Ray Strickland spoke with former Philadelphia Flyers player and two-time Stanley Stanley Cup champion Bernie Pan about the goodro brothers and the Legacy they leave behind it was a terrible terrible news Bernie pan callus the deaths of Johnny and Matt goodro a huge loss for not only the hockey Community but the world there two great individuals the former Philadelphia Flyer in two-time Stanley Cup champion says he first first met the two brothers a few years ago he says he also saw them recently when all of them were at a gathering together I just felt so good to be surrounded by those two individuals that represent the game represented the game so well Johnny and Matt goodro were hit and killed Thursday night while they were cycling on County Route 551 in oatman's Township New Jersey State Police say they were struck by 43 y old Sean Higgins who attempted to pass a slower vehicle police say Higgins admitted to having a few drinks before the crash Higgins remains in police custody it shows you that life is um so fragile the goodro brothers were South Jersey natives who attended and played hockey at Gloucester Catholic High School both later played and starred for Boston College Johnny went on to get drafted by the Calgary Flames before he signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets Matt also went pro but made his Mark as a coach at his High School alma mater as well as coaching junior hockey at the holidale ice arena where they grew up playing a makeshift Memorial is now outside the arena to honor both of their lives and to recognize the impact they had on the community pan says they were in inspiration to many and will be greatly missed and my condolences you know to their families you know their friends teammates and both Johnny and Matthew and I want to say this right now is I'm going miss you guys reporting for CBS News Philadelphia I'm R Strickland and for the first time since the tragedy we are getting reaction from Johnny's wife Meredith in a post on Instagram she wrote thank you for the best years of my life despite losing knew I am still the luckiest girl in the world to have been yours I love you so much you are perfect she added I can't wait to be with you again so much love forever and ever hockey fans continue to pay tribute to Johnny and Matthew a memorial continues to grow in Columbus Ohio Johnny played for the Blue Jackets for the last two seasons after signing as a free agent with the team fans held a vigil outside of Nationwide Arena dropping off flowers sticks and Teddy bears in his short time there Johnny made quite an impact and fans say they are simply heartbroken it's been a really big role model especially for younger kids we haven't won here we've we've had rough years with a couple exceptions but you know every single game that that Arena sold out he'd still go out and give 100% even when the other guys on the team were just skating around a memorial is also growing in Calgary where goodro spent the first nine years of his NHL career as tributes to Johnny and his brother Matt continue to pour in you can count on us to share them with you we'll also post the latest updates at CBS philadelphia.com
