what is going on Jet fans Matt oi back with another video recapping the New York Jets first pre-season game of the 2024 season I am amped up to talk about a New York Jets win yes it's the preseason and the story lines are really more important in the preseason than wins and losses but overall the Jets get a w they have some standout young players and nobody gets hurt like serious injuries so that is a very very good sign for the New York Jets if you are new to the channel this year here's how I do my postgame reactions we kind of go chronologically and then hit on the big story lines at the end so let's start things off in the first quarter as the Washington commanders would start with the football and their first team offense did play in this game jayen Daniels comes up with a really big play on third down hits a receiver Deep Over the Top beat jerck Bernard Converse but really not a whole lot Bernard convers could do there that was just you got to kind of tip your cap on that one really really impressive throw um and it just a better pitch and catch and sometimes you know that's the difference um and I noticed the Jets second team defense struggle at times with tackling um for instance Brian Robinson was able to spin out of a tackle for a first down they get inside the 5 yard line and then Jaden Daniels caps off his first drive with an RPO runs it in for a touch down it looked like maybe it was Michael Clemens who bit on the fake to the running back um and didn't didn't contain at that point um but really easy stuff for for Jaden Daniels uh who rushes in for a touchdown and made it a s nothing game for Washington our first Dynamic kick return for the New York Jets was shown by Malachi Corley it was a good return he got out past the 30 yard line that was impressive uh then you get a a pitch to brillan Allen for six yards an Olu fashion fall start backs it up Tyrod hits brillan Allen for looks like what it's going to be a first down that gets called back for an ineligible man downfield and the Jets have to punt it away that drive stalled out because of penalties um in comes Marcus Mariota for Washington only a one drive for Jayden Daniels and the commanders he looked good I think you just you take the positives there and move on uh Bruce Hector would come up with a sack as the commanders would go three and out Jets exchange a three and out with with them two Allen runs and a coverage sack that Tyrod Taylor takes Jets punt it back next possession for the Washington commanders a couple of notes Here one will McDonald gets hit with a roughing the passer the positive really good spin move the negative is that he gets called for a penalty I thought it was kind of a borderline call at best yes he drives him into the ground a little bit but I guess call me old school I wouldn't consider that roughing the passer I'm not anti- protecting the quarterback I just think that should really be the head shots and anything at the knees or below I I don't know it looked okay to me but nonetheless uh then you had Leonard Taylor uh with a big run stuff for a loss that really jumped out and then jerck Bernard Converse tips away a deep shot and forces the commanders to punt in comes Andrew Peasley and this honestly started for me being the difference in the game for the Jets offense huge run for brillan Allen they go right back to again another big chunk then Isaiah Davis the other rookie running back gets involved and finally you would hit P peasy would hit Jason brownley for a touchdown nice ball on the fade route ties the game up at 7-7 real again very good drive for the New York Jets it showed off the ground game for both rookies um with Allen and and Davis and then you had Peasley with a nice ball to Jason brownley who's had a slow start to camp but has turned it on a little bit more recently and I think he still has a strong chance to make this roster next possession for Washington you would see Clemens absolutely deck Jeff Driscoll but good pocket presence from driscolls able to complete it for a first down quantz stigers fell on that one CH Sarat was banged up on this drive he would get up on his own and then end up coming back so nothing to worry about there uh and then you would get uh really good coverage from Jerick Bernard Converse may have gotten away with a hold but we don't have to talk about that one forces the Washington commanders to settle for a field goal opportunity no good off the upright so Still Remains 7 to7 not much going on in the next Jets possession they punted away Washington this drive you get a huge gain from sonat up the seam uh at the tight end really just kind of found himself open and uh was able to uh get get the catch after uh Jeff Driscoll steps up hits him up the seam this time the field goal is good on this drive commanders jump out in front 10 to7 jets would get another possession before the end of the half though Carter Warren false start and then you would get honestly one of the highlights of the game Malachi Corley with an unreal play so Zack coun who we really haven't heard a whole lot from him in Camp kind was in the process of dropping a ball that was thrown to him Malachi Corley picks it up right before it hits the ground and then ends up running for a first down really weird play but hey man that's football just good football IQ around the ball and good things happen once he has the ball in his hands the Jets get themselves into field goal range Greg zerin from 56 with ease as time expires in the first half 10 to 10 Jets offense kind of stalls actually both offenses kind of stalls to be honest with the out of the half jets go three and out commanders Drive stalls with some penalties they punt it away Sam Hartman's in for them at this point and for the New York Jets in comes Adrien Martinez who he ended up having himself a day more on Adrien Martinez in a little bit but on this drive um it looked like Ian Banda was going to have a long run for first down but that was brought back due to holding uh Martinez scrambles for a first down on a third and long not much going on after that Martinez rush for a first down the Jets punted away Washington's quiet at Martinez drive he was he dropped a snap but was able to recover and throw it away um then there was a little miscommunication with him and McCutchen I felt on third down uh you could debate on whether he threw the ball too far McCutchen went up and tried to grab it it was just out of his reach sure if McCutchen maybe should have uh tried to run a couple more strides before jumping and it could have been completed but nonetheless unable to connect on third down so the Jets send it right back to Washington Jaylen key drops what would have been a right to him interception a little frustrating uh codington got banged up he would leave on his own and then end up coming back Luke McCaffrey a fan favorite from the NFL draft picks up a first down for Washington Eric Watts who's also a fan favorite for the New York Jets udfa Edge rusher picks up a sack um drive would continue though as Michael Wy punches it in a two-yard rushing TouchDown for Washington makes it a 17-10 game on this drive the Keynotes Eric Watts fighting for a roster spot comes up with a big play uh Luke mcaffrey obviously for Washington and the Jets fall behind all right so Adrien Martinez finds himself in the hole but he comes out firing backto back big throws he had the bomb from Martinez to Smith for 37 yards puts the Jets down at the three yard line hell of a couple of plays there from Martinez and Smith uh they were really cooking it was really exciting to see that happen I aananda would end up getting a much needed touchdown uh at from two yards out on first and second down You' have valade try to punch it in from short he wasn't able to do it he loses yards then gets it back to the two- yard line then they give to Izzy who punches it in all tied up at 17 Izzy aananda we've discussed a lot I think he's going to have a tough time making this roster unfortunately just because of the names in front of him uh and where he was playing in this game kind of you know kind of goes to that notion where he was getting fourth quarter touches um and guys like brillan Allen and isaia Davis already out of the game at that point but nonetheless 17- 177 uh next possession for Washington Leonard Taylor who had a really great day picks up a sack Jets get the ball back with 4 minutes and 1 second left and here comes the Drive Martinez with an unreal escape and throws it to Brandon Smith they connect again then on third down he runs he scampers for a first down third and seven he picks up like it was 14 yards uh and then gets the Jets into field goal range they kick a field goal to go up 20 to 17 with 21 seconds left that score would hold and the New York Jets would win the game 20- 17 okay so who stood out as some of the positive uh starting with honestly the rookies I mean brillan Allen six carries 54 yards average nine yards per carry U fashanu I know he had the uh penalty on the false start but I thought he looked really strong in pass protection that's a good sign how could you not mention Martinez and Peasley the two quarterbacks who came in and ran this offense six for1 for uh Adrien Martinez and 104 yards uh Peasley went eight of 11 for 73 yards and a passing touchdown too none other than Jason brownley Derk Bernard Converse had four tackles I thought was really strong in coverage yes he had the throw that beat him over the top early on the first drive again there wasn't really a whole lot that he could do he was around the ball making plays passes defended strong day from Bernard Converse in year two and Leonard Taylor who is going to be fighting to make this roster had two tackles and a sack in this game to me those are my standout players in this one and what was a positive game for the New York Jets again the most important thing here is Health young players show out I'm excited to see the rest of the week and kind of get into the a little bit more of the analytics and the and the stats from this game early on this week then we'll get into the game coming up for the Jets second preseason game what to look for and of course training camp practices but that's going to do it for me in this video make
