Intro what's up get better basketball Community I'm coach DeMarco and this is focused in today's episode I'm going to share with you the Iverson series that's used by the University of Florida and many many other teams what I love about this is that it's one simple action with a number of different variations off of it it's really simple for your team but it's difficult for defenses and you're going to see why as they take you through six different plays off of this Bas Iverson series The Iverson action was made famous by Allan Iverson and it starts with an Iverson cut so I'm just going to show you that first before I jump into the plays but really really simple this player here going to get screens across the top and they're going to work right across catching the basketball off that action and this player is going to work to the opposite side of the floor so that's going to initiate the action each time that's the Iverson cut that's why this is the Iverson series see a lot of teams using this now um but like I said initially used with Iverson and really when he was on the 76s although they used it throughout his career so first action is going to be the the base Iverson cut it's going to be over the top this player is going to come low and what we're going to see is this player is going to catch with a little bit of an advantage and they're going to continue on to the basket and they're going to look to score so this is the basic action that you would run with your team I'm going to show you this and then I'm going to show you five variations where it doesn't always result in this player catching the ball on the wing here and continuing on to the basket the other options off of it and you're going to love each one of them let's check out the base Iverson action so here we go with the base iers action they're going to start this a little bit early but the player starts over here and they're going to come across the top and the player on this side is going to work across to the other side of the floor so this is an opportunity for him to get this defender on his back catch the ball and in this in this case he's going to catch with an advantage if this Defender comes under the screens he could catch and shoot he could step back I'm going to show you that in the next clip but there's a lot of different options off of this really really simple cut so here we're going to see Florida catch the basketball and he's going to open up reverse pivot off the catch and feels like has a big area to drive over here really a double Gap to drive into has an advantage has a nice angle on this Defender so he's going to turn he's going to attack the basket he's goingon to get by that Defender it's going to result in a goal tending call but you can see he makes the right read and Allan irvis would do that a lot he would reverse pivot off of it get to the basket or could possibly catch and shoot or take some one dribble shots as Iverson Reject well so let's take a look at this action one more time our base IIs in action and now we're going to get into the fun stuff all right so we saw that base ivis in action with the cut over the top and the continuation and in that instance the defender trailed on this cut he trailed that player over the screens the next time we're going to see it Defender is going to be here we're going to start out like we're coming across this Defender is going to step under like he's going to come under the screens this player is just going to come right back and we're going to hit them on the pass and they're going to reject the screen so I call this Iris reject and this is an option off of it and really this doesn't have to be a play call this can be a read you see him come over the top you continue on and you're going to to catch the other side that Defender is off and they come underneath then you plant and you can work right back out and you can get an open three-pointer off it really simple read off of this series as we move along we're going to see different concepts it aren't necessarily going to just be a simple read like this one it's going to be an action or predetermined call that they make off of it let's check it out so in this clip we're going to see a Defender who here Here Comes our initial Iverson cut right coming over the top coming underneath this Defender is now going to come underneath the screens last time the defender trailed on his hip so he curled it went to the basket and now we're going to see this Defender who is going to come underneath the screens so he's going to plant and this player is going to do a nice job here he's going to set a little bit of a rescreen as he sees that Defender come under and this player is just going to plant and get an open Iverson Rip Action three-pointer really really simple read by Florida here that's going to leave to an open three so the last clip that we looked at we saw the defender come underneath the screen and that was from later in the Alabama game and there's a reason why that Defender comes underneath the screen earlier in the game they win the very popular Iverson rip action it's something you've probably seen before this player is going to make an Iverson cut over the top and they're going to have that Defender trailing on their back one is going to hit the four man and this player with that person on their back is going to curl here comes the back screen there's your rip action and they're just going to get a bounce pass and an easy layup or dunk out of it really popular action and you can see how this Iverson series all these plays and all these reads complement each other so nicely let's check out Iverson RI all right here we go so Florida is going to set it up again we get our four across we get our first cut through and here comes our Iverson cup at this time they're going to make a call he comes off of that double screen and they're going to hit this fourman at the elbow he's got this defender on his back here comes that back screen he's going to curl off of it get an easy dunk out of it let's take a look at this Iverson rip action one more time I know you're going to love this one with your team as you're watching Iverson Elevator Action these clips you've probably started to ask yourself what about this player on the other side we keep hitting the Iverson cut and what if they take that away well there's a great option that I call Iverson elevator you also could call it double screen it depends he kind of uses it more like a double screen but they do close the doors as a typical elevator screen I'll show you what I'm talking about so really really simple here we're going to have this player make their Iverson cut and this player you'll notice usually kind of dribbles to close down that lane and make that uh pass at a good angle so he's going to take that dribble at again with this person again our three players going to work into the through the paint but this time they're going to stop and four and five are going to come together and here's your elevator screen this player can go around or through the elevator and they close their doors which means they pinch in together and this player is going to catch again this player has dribbled this way they're going to pass back going to get a wide openen three-pointer at the top of the key so you have your ibison cut you have the reject read you have the rip action and now you have an elevator screen for this player really simple series multiple options off it let's take a look at this elevator action from Florida all right here we go again there's our Iverson cut and here comes our low cut on the Baseline here's our two screeners on the Ivon cut you're going to see the defender get through those screens and point guard's going to dribble over to this left hand side and Here Comes Your elevator screen now this player could come between them or in this case he works around them and they close the doors and they don't let this player get through and he's going to knock down a three from the top of the key take a look at one more thing this player also could have rejected the screens and Ste back out for a three-pointer but they made an elevator call off of off of this so he's not going to make that read Double Drag Action let's take a look at this one more time at full speed we got our iers cut Here Comes his player elevator screen wide open three-pointer this next play in the ivison series is one that I call Double drag and this is going to show you when you do catch on this side and on the wing and you don't have that continuation or that reverse pivot and rip through what's an option that you can use with your team and it's going to be that double drag ball screen so we're going to get an Iverson cut across the top we're going to get this player to work to the opposite side side of the floor and we're going to have our two- player catch the basketball and pass from one two is going to have it they reverse out they don't have the drive off of it one is going to work to the weak side after making that pass now we're going to get a ram screen so we're going to get five to screen for four who's going to come over and set a ball screen so you can call this Ram double drag you can call it Ram you can call it double drag whatever you choose to call it this player is going to set that screen and they're going to roll to the paint and then five is going to set the second screen so our one player is over here three can bump down a little bit and two is going to come off of both of these screens so I'm just going to draw our four over here now we set that initial screen and two is going to come off of both of those screens and he has four four low and five is going to stay high when the help defense comes over four is going to be wide open for a lob and a layup or dunk or you could reverse back out to five at the top for a shot multiple options offer this as well he's going to hit the four player for an easy two points all right let's see that Iverson cut across the top there's our low cut again and we're going to hit this player off the Iverson now he's going to catch and he's going to square up there's our Ram screen we just got a screen for this first ball screener who's going to come through first screen we get a roll To The Hoop we get our second screen and that player is going to stay high we're going to turn the corner with an advantage we have an option if this player gets too low to kick to the corner we have a dump inside we could have a reverse back out to either one of these two players um at the top depending on what the defense does this tagman has to get in position there's no one out to help the helper who's going to get in position so we're going to get a lob and a dunk let's take a look at this one more time at full speed Iverson cut Ram screen double drag get an advantage easy two points so each action we've seen has resulted in this two player coming over the top and catching the basketball rejecting and catching the ball here or three catching it for an open three-pointer well now in this last option we're going to see a team that and you're probably asking this question what if you get a Defender that does a great job denying this doesn't give up the curl we don't have our Iverson rip action call in place where the ball's going to go to the four so this player is going to come across but they're not going to be able to catch the basketball well in this instance we're going to have our double drag action but I'm just going to call this ball screen because it's going to lead to a ball screen so we're going to get our five again setting that Ram screen four is going to come over to set a ball screen but they're not going to be able to because two did not get the basketball after five sets that Ram screen they're going to come up and they're going to change their angle and they're going to set a ball screen for one who's going to attack the paint now five is going to roll they have five on the roll they have our uh four player who's out here who could catch the basketball um and they're going to in a moment they have three on the kick or two on the kick one is going to kick the four who actually has a wideopen three-pointer so if you have a shooter in that spot they could potentially get an open three-pointer Four's not going to shoot it they're going to pass and they're going to follow and they're going to rescreen one's going to work off of that Four's going to dive down one's going to hit four on the dive and four is going to end up scoring so they're going to go into multiple ball screen actions off of it but the main thing that I want you to see in this instance is when that Iverson cut is not open across the top here and he can't catch the basketball five is going to go into a ball screen action we know that two came across we know that three's over here we know that four was coming over to set the screen after to five screen for them so five is going to set that screen three is going to work low and we're going to get into a ball screen action so this gives you an option if your Iverson cut is denied you can go into a traditional ball screen action and I actually love this option because they drove in and they had a kick out to the floor for an open three-pointer and they still got a basket out of it let's check out this last action when the Iverson cut is taken away all right here we go again we have our Iverson cut cut across the top this Defender does a nice job denying it if we had our Iverson rip action called we would have passed here and this player would have curled and they would have got a layup out of it so if you're watching this in the game and your assistant coaches watch this and they see this Defender trailing here call Iris and rip the next play and you're going to get a backo action off of that back cut they don't have that call made so we get denied there's our Ram screen well he can't go ball screen for anyone so he's going to work out to the win this player is going to step up now and set a screen they're going to change their angle we're going to get downhill they get into the paint they tag look how open this player is out here wide open three-pointer as I showed you on the board or if we get a close out it could be a one more for a three-pointer he's not going to take that option he's going to pass he's going to rescreen he's going to slip off the rescreen cuz he makes the read off the ball screen he's going to get into the paint now he could have a nice little sh here this Defender does an okay job recovering he's just going to work his way in and get two points so let's take a look at this last action one more time Iverson Cuts not there we're going to step up set the screen open shot available doesn't take it rescreen dump inside for two points as you look at these six options off the Iverson series you can see why it's so difficult for opponents to defend one time you're hitting them with the Iverson back screen action the Iverson rip next time you're hitting with a double drag ball screen and an easy lob for a dunk if you're not using a series like the Iverson series then you're missing out on a great opportunity to attack defenses and keep them off balance with these complimentary actions if you like this video then make sure you hit that like button down below turn on your notifications and subscribe to get better basketball on YouTube for
