Caitlyn Clark speaks on the support from Kelsey Mitchell and head coach Christy sides check out the video I felt like Kel probably should have got a little love I honestly thought she probably should have been player of the month um just what she was doing and at the clip she was doing it I think she was like 50490 this month which is really really hard to do um so I feel very fortunate to play with her and um honestly I'm not even trying to be corny like I really think she deserved it so um I think sharing that with her and um I feel lucky to have you know kind of a backourt that has been you know through this for seven years and has really helped me and kind of let me flourish and same with Christy and um but at the same time it is cool and um you know I think Christy has definitely allowed me to be myself um and kind of you know figure out this team figure out how to be successful and hasn't really held me back from you know kind of what I did in college yes sure is breaking some habits and getting used to some things that you do differently professionally but at the same time like I didn't lose what made me really good and and tried to bring that here and replicate that for this team too I stay a place so it's not really out of the usual but yeah was up I did see it how did you react were you watching the end of those games to see that it became official in the moment yeah I watched the end of them honestly my reaction was I turned it off and I went to sleep I didn't even took my phone until the next morning that's kind of when I had the most messages and stuff so um definitely cool um especially like before we really it doesn't have to come down the wire for us like I think that's special like you can just really relax and play basketball and have a lot of fun but for us like yeah we accomplished that but like there's still so much more left on the table that we can do we can position ourselves better we get six at home to have a lot of fun like you know these are ones that are very winnable for us so um I think just still going one game at a time that has done so well for us um to get to this point I think that should still be the focus any of it today I mean obviously like this is a big moment for this organization um this is it was the longest you know playoff drought and you know WNBA hist if I'm not mistaken so it's definitely a big moment for this place but at the same time like I came in with the expectation that this is what's going to happen like for me this isn't like a party like yeah it's great I feel like it's a great accomplishment but like there's so much more left to be done like yeah we made the playoffs there's six regular season games I mean I'm not just happy to be in the playoffs I think we have the type of team that can win and Advance um going one game at a time so I think that's what it is for for all of us is like yes celebrate it enjoy it like it is really huge for this organization um not having been to the playoffs since T was here if I'm not mistaken so uh it's been a long time um and I think I'm definitely most happy for Kel like kelse has been with this been at this place for seven years and you know has never been to the playoffs so she definitely deserves this moment and obviously she's been playing really good basketball too so uh she's definitely you know help us help us earn it you just said smile before the season what was the thought of that well everybody had already written playoffs so I was like that's like not even original at this point because I was like the last person to get my picture taken when we had gone there so I was like I don't really know what to write like everybody else wrote playoffs and like obviously that's my goal and I felt like you know just smiling and now looking back through everything that's like happened and how this year's played out I feel like that is there weren't many moments to smile at the beginning but I think making it through that and smiling and finding the good in every single day and just reminding myself of I get to play basketball at the highest level I think has you know allowed me to be in this moment and be back and be back and take this organization to the playoffs and you know that brings a lot of smiles to but also like I think it was for myself but also like for other people like bring them joy and and help them smile make their day better like I feel like I was able to do that even when we were one and eight and doing that now as we are 17 and 16 or whatever our record is and I feel like when I do that I I not only am a great basketball player but I'm a great person you know I I bring joy to other people's lives and bring joy to my teammates so uh I think for myself it was like a reminder of that helps me you know do really good things on the basketball court but even more importantly off the basketball court too I think what makes coach Christy so special is that she's just an open coach she communicates a lot and that's something that I um enjoy just being able to communicate talk about anything especially when it comes to basketball with Coach sides she's been awesome from the first day I met her you know she really emphasized how much they they wanted me here and um I felt that love felt that intensity and um she wants it more than anyone and so I feel like I'm playing you know through her energy too that picks me up every single day it's exciting to play for her me and Chris's relationship has grown huge you know I could talk to chrisy about anything I can go sit in her office and we don't even have to talk about basketball so I think that's huge is just building that relationship with your coach and I feel like I built it oh man um it's been great man like we have heated conversations we have honest conversations but we also can go and have a glass of wine and just talk like regular friends but also like we keep the main thing the main thing Christy I mean I'm so excited that she's here I was so excited when she got here last year and I feel like she's such a relationship coach really wants to get to know every player and I feel like her and I can have go and get dinner and have a real conversation about anything and it's so awesome to be able to have that relationship with a coach that's not only about basketball that she cares about us as people cares about our futures how we are feeling and that's just so nice that and so easy to buy in to a program when there's someone like that leading it I really am happy Kelsey Mitchell has been here um and just been through some really hard times and so just throughout this process anytime I thought about making it the playoffs she's top of mind for me because she's she's deserve this and she's um had a really you know she hasn't had the easiest year and um just for her to get this and experience playoffs um for the first time is really incredible [Applause] wow what a day this is um a coach this is my staff this is you guys this is not this is not a award for me this is all y'all what a day what a day one other thing to add to that this is the first time in franchise history you've got a
