Fry Fest 2022

hi everyone ashleen giza youtube channel today we are going to talk about the fry fest so the fry fest is a hawkeye iowa hawkeye event and every year it happens before the iowa hawkeye football team plays so i'm going to read you guys a little bit of stuff that i found on the web just in case you have never been to the frye fest before okay so the fry fest was created in 2009 as a collaborate effort between iowa city corville area convention and visitors of bureau city of corvo and university of iowa athletics to kick off the hawkeye football season it was named after the greatest hawkeyes of all time responsible for bringing the tiger hawk to the university of iowa and his name was hayden frye um the activities that happen at the freifest are the world's largest hawkeye trade show to to their signature hawkeye pop pep rally excuse me hawkeye collectors showcase there's a kid zone where they have like big balloon things that the kids can go inside and jump on and um like play games to and win prizes and and then they get to like um i think they've had face paintings before and stuff like that they have hawkeye fashion shows outdoor concerts and former player discussions and my favorite of all time the autograph sessions speaking of autograph sessions um i actually have dan gable's signature right there um so that's really cool and i have my atlas the one of the um iowa hawkeye writers he he writes about um the hawkeyes and stuff so um okay hold on a second let me turn this over so another thing about the fry fest is it serves up for as a fundraiser too for the city of corville and the first eight years of the fry fest um honored hayden frye which he was the one that i was talking about at the beginning of this video that was one of the best best coaches of all times um for the iowa hawkeye football and he passed away december 2019 and i have some regrets with this because number one i had a chance to talk with him and didn't take it because it was an awkward situation i think i talked about this in one of the hawkeye videos i made but i was at one of the fry fest one year and i i saw him like coming out of the bathroom but um i heard rumors that he wasn't really feeling well so i thought that i would like not that you know that's not the area to go hey you know can i have your autograph so i left him alone but like now looking back i kind of wish that like i like not would have like followed him like weird in a weird way but like i wish i would have kind of walked a little bit down a ways like after he passed the bathrooms and finished in that area to go meet up with him and talk with him a little bit and get his autograph because now i you know i will never get the chance i will never be able to have the opportunity to meet him nor get his autograph um [Music] but uh so the first eight years honored hayden fry dan gable which i just showed you guys hit the his autograph and i also have a few pictures of myself with him um i'll probably do the uh the thumbnail the of the picture of me with the end gable um and then forest eva shinsky sorry that's a really hard last name to say so if i'm pronouncing it wrong i apologize and the fry fest is always held at iowa river landing and so like it's a big hotel basically and um the street that it's held on is called um hayden frye drives i think it i think it is his whole full name hayden frye drive i'm not sure if it's just hayden drive or uh frydrive or hayden fry drive i'm not sure which one but it's i know i know i think i'm pretty sure that it's hayden drive um i'll have to get back to you guys in another iowa hawkeye video about that but um it's held in corville um iowa so if anybody is in the iowa area around this time before the iowa hawkeye football team starts to play come on down go to courtville it will be great because people will get to you know you'll get to experience the hawkeye adventure and it's a lot of fun and you meet a lot of new people and if you're you live in iowa and you become a hawkeye fan later or if you are one and you just never went to this event go to this event because it's really fun you'll meet a lot of people and um it's just uh you'll learn a lot too about the the um present players and past um players um what whether it be basketball players football players wrestlers cheerleaders all of that um even some of the marching band bands and me and my mother and my husband met a few uh wonderful ladies that used to play in like the bag and they blew like these it's the instrument with the it's like a i forgot what it's called it has like an uh sac air sac thing that you press down and it has like things that you blow in i forget the name of the instrument i apologize about that but the ladies are wonderful and those ladies that i met i actually got their autograph and they're in the um if you ever are in corvo iowa city area they're in the hall of fame in corville i believe it's corville and or iowa city one of the two i can't remember and um it's the iowa hawkeye hall of fame and those two ladies i'm talking about are in there and they actually um like if you press one of the buttons you can hear them talking about what they did and everything so it's pretty cool i mean um so lots of interesting things i'm excited for the iowa hawkeye football season um i'm hoping to uh watch the football or the excuse me i'm hoping to watch the basketball team this year with my husband my husband really enjoys basketball but i enjoy football more but i would love to learn about how to play basketball because i don't really know so um like i i know the simple stuff but i don't know like there's the exact rules because for football there's like face face masks sorry because there's face masks there's like holding um and different rules like that and like there's um when the football team is about to make a touchdown and they're down by the um they're down to kick a field goal or or make a touchdown by the field goal that that area is called the red zone so there's things about football i know a lot about football but i don't know much rules about basketball so i want my husband to take me to carver which is in iowa city and it's right kind of nearby the king kinnick stadium and i was about to say kingston stadium because we have a kingston stadium here in cedar rapids but that's not the one i'm talking about carver is by kinnick stadium and um it's a basketball arena and a basketball court and i want to go there and see a basketball game live because i think that would be so much fun so that's a little bit about um the fry festival it's actually this friday september 2nd and we're going to be leaving around like 10 a.m or something like that so it'll be a lot of fun i hope to see you guys there if you're going um i also um i uh if you guys go um there's uh some art there too and there's um different artists that you can meet and stuff like that too so it's not just the stuff i name there's also art there i forgot to mention and paintings and stuff like that so um it's pretty cool come on down me up meet people have fun and [Music] go hawks
