then what Mike in Newcastle why do England persist in giving the national team manager job to people who wouldn't even be considered for a premier league job once you strip it back surely that needs to be the question Jim does it not all right m i put it out there anyone who gets England would should they in the same breath be able Simon to manage a top Premier League club that's not a bad question by mate well I think it's a I think it's a slightly myopic question because you've got a completely different skill set required for managing an international side than you do for having a domestic side um and so it's interesting that Carley wants to talk about being a coach rather than a manager I think that traditionally you've seen managers take over International sides when their domestic careers are going slightly to a more sedate level and they're looking for a different Challenge and they don't want to have the cut and thrust of a day-to-day rigor of running a a domestic football club all the pressures that go with it so I think it's probably unwise to just compare unilaterally the situation between what a domestic manager looks like a as a success because Capello Capello was a domestic success and ironically for England he has the best win record of being the England manager but he's universally uh judged as being a you know an ultimate unsuccess as the couldn't develop that play well enough to get the ball then into the really good players that we have in the final third I thought a simple solution worked very well against Republic of Ireland create more Pace on the left hand side and give that space then to greish to come into that little pocket of space and play off the front are we getting the best from our captain I'm looking at Ronaldo last night playing for Portugal nearly 40 years of age and he's he's loved and he's put on a pedestal and we already want to get rid of Harry Kane even though he's on 100 games now coming up to and he's got you know copious amounts of goals I think we should be hanging on to those players we shouldn't be dismissing them he's going to need to work with all these players and get the best from them but from a tactical point of view find a way for us to get on the ball in Midfield and develop the play we see it often enough in the Prem league but they didn't play Ronaldo during the Euros he was on the bench a lot of the time and he was on the bench last night now he started he started every game I don't think he did where were you then on your boat no I wasn't actually I don't think he start no no don't comment on that then I don't think he start I don't think he started think he start last night my recollection started their first game of the two I'm going back to the Euros what you're doing is you're saying that Harry Kane should be Beyond reproach and that because Ronaldo who by the way by the way let me finish I listen to you um is not Harry Kane is not in the same zip code AS Ronaldo so doing a comparison between those two is relatively ridiculous and up until recently Ronaldo is an inter National footballer has been impactive in pretty much every game he played in now Harry Kane hasn't been recently so I think it's a fair assessment to say that he shouldn't be Beyond reproach and I'm pretty sure that Ronaldo wasn't in the starting lineup or as regularly featured as he once was before during the Euros so there is a comparison between the two what you're saying is English fans pack it in you've got to hear yeah absolutely right but we do live in the world in the here and now and footballers have to deliver on every occasion and they get a B ccy in the bank and so Ronaldo is's a different animal to compar he has dropped out the automatic selection process it's interesting your recollection of the EUR are different to mine you for me he started every match and he never scored a single goal in the competition CU I'm Scottish we're comparing because we want to write off Harry Kane but Portugal are quite happy hold to their probably you taking it to the extreme what we want to be what we want to judge Harry Kane by is the same standard as every other
