The Heroes trophy was up for grabs this afternoon as Iowa faced off against Nebraska in the final game of the regular season. Local five's Jake Brand has a recap from Lincoln with the big 10 West all locked up. There weren't any real stakes that Iowa was playing for today, but with a win, they reach a milestone of 10 wins and they would prevent rival Nebraska from making a bowl game for the seventh season in a row. The over under of this one closed at 24.5. The lowest in college football history fittingly scoreless in the second quarter. It took a couple of tries but on third down, Deacon Hill gets in on the one yard QB sneak 70, Hawkeye Iowa. Now up 10 7 with the chance to make it 13 7 but Drew Stevens kick is blocked. That's his second of the day that was blocked. He also had two Kickoffs go out of bounds. Fourth quarter tied at 10 with under a minute to go. Hill is picked off by Tommy Hill looking for Nico Ragaini. So Nebraska has a shot to set up a game winning field goal in Hawkeye territory but Iowa returns the favor. Ethan her intercepts Chuba Purdy, what a time for her's first career interception. The Hawks now at the Nebraska 37 LaShawn Williams gets Iowa in field goal range 22 yards on the run. He had 111 but it's not Stevens. It's Marshall Meader, a transfer from Central Michigan who has never attempted a kick as a Hawkeye, he drills it from 38 yards meter is the hero he's carried off the field in Iowa finishes the regular season 10 and two. That's every kicker's dream. Like I've always dreamt of that moment since I started kicking as a freshman and I'm just happy to be there for my team and get that 10th win. So I got faith that every, every one of my teammates, it could have been a ball boy at the end of the day. They're a hard guy and I mean, we all go out there and practice together. I know we all put in the hard work and practice. So I had just as much of it as I had of him and, and I, I had, if Drew was kicking it, you know, football is not a beauty contest. It's not like, uh gymnastics, we good style points, it's about finding a way to be successful, find a way to win the football game. And, uh, our guys have really done a good job of that. So just, you know, extremely proud of them. Happy for them. The next game that matters for Iowa is one that they aren't involved in. It's Ohio State and Michigan tomorrow morning, the Hawkeyes await the winner of that one in Indianapolis. That game is next Saturday at seven and we'll keep you posted right up until game day.
