CFTV: Rocco Becht previews 2024 season during fall camp

Intro last weekend another one this weekend how important is this time of Camp as you get ready for the season opener yeah I mean it's it's important very important to us um there's a lot that we're trying to get in a lot that we're trying to you know focus on and get better at and I think coach Campbell's done a great job of challenging us mentally and physically uh this whole fall camp and so um I'm excited for Saturday you know there there's going to be mess ups but you know that's what we want in you know in practice so uh we'll get better at that uh we'll continue to be consistent uh day in and day out and get better for the season coach said you also were doing some like uh specialty Special teams things this week I what is it like two-minute offense things like that you go over all that stuff and yeah we had some two-minute this week some four-minute um just a bunch of situations that we could be in during the season and so like I said he does a great job of putting in th putting us in those situations um and helping us throughout the season and so Saturday we'll all come full circle um and we'll get a two minute four minute all those situations again how much different is Preseason this preseason for you than it was a year ago I imagine I'm probably asking the obvious here yeah it's obviously different um you know this is my SEC my first fall Camp going in as a starter but I'm looking at as you know the same day in and day out like last year I went into each day thinking I was going to be the starter and that's how I'm going to that's how I'm thinking this year um and that's just you know I have a lot of competition in the quarterback room and they make me better every single day um and so you know I'm grateful for them but um like I said I'm just going in there each and every day as a starter thinking I'm the starter you mentioned Competition some of the competition behind you what have you seen from JJ a year older Conor coming in in January what have you seen from those guys they've been balling uh MOS he's been making plays with his feet um and then JJ on the other hand he's been making plays with his arm so a lot of those guys have been making plays for us making the defense better U making our offense better so um like I said I'm grateful for those guys when you think about the growth that you made from you know your first year in the program when you red shirted to last season when you took over as a starter have you seen some of the similar kind of growth things from JJ he gets from his first to second year in the program yeah he's he you know he asks a lot of more questions now um he's more comfortable in the offense uh which he should be and um I think he just has a really good relationship with Coach Waters and a lot of the guys in the quarterback room and so we help each other uh we make each other better um and like I said how I'm going in each and every day I hope he's thinking that same way in talking about Preparation your preparation what goes into making sure you're ready to potentially be the starter each day and how did that help you as you sort of saw your opportunity come fairly quickly yeah I think it's just my my mental state um you know I'm not thinking about anything else or anyone else just thinking about this team how I can make this team better how I can make myself better day in and day out um and that started last year and I've just continued that stay consistent with it throughout this whole season um and you know following going into this next season hopefully to do the same thing is there anything you have to do Maintaining edge to sort of maintain that edge or maintain that preparation um I I would say it's just the trust and the you know the the trust that I have in the coaches but they what they have in me and the players uh you know I have their backs they have my backs and I know that so that just wants me uh you know to go out there and make more plays for him how's Communication the direct communication into the elmet G for you so far it's been well for us uh coach Waters he's doing that with us um he gives us tips and reminders which is huge for me um just letting me know who you know maybe if there's a re key on this play who the read if we got double motions um you know all that stuff is good for us and so that and the tablets are good and so we've been working those tablets as well on the sideline in practice um and you know I'm excited to see those in real game um in live action and so um I think it's going to help us tremendously this year you Watching film find yourself not being able to lie about what you actually see now that you can go back and watch film on the tablet right away yeah it is pretty cool but you know I think last season there wasn't a lot of stuff I think I came over and lied about but uh I'm joking um it it is going to help me see a lot more stuff better and Coach Kent will be on the sidelines with us helping us out and you know seeing what's going on with the defense what what how much are you Jake Fromm getting from Jake in the headset you know for each play yeah like I said tips and reminders is the biggest thing for me uh you know not necessarily speaking the whole time saying the whole play but just kind of giving me those little tips that I need uh to make the play successful so um that's what we've been working on
