[Music] welcome to Sunny shymkent here on kazakhstan's  Silk Road so we're right in the bottom of   Kazakhstan now and we're here to explore the  city it's a beautiful day and we're here at   Independence Park where we're going to have a  little snack that we've seen all over the city   we don't know the real name but we're calling  it Circle bread because it's literally a giant   Circle bread look at this fresh just out the  oven it's warm and it's fluffy and it smells   banging and it only cost 130 Tangi which is about  30p yeah so this is our little snack we've got it   in our bag as they love to do over here first  impressions of shim Kent this is beautiful   just walked down from our hotel and we've got a  monument here we got some funky stairs taking us   over the road into the park we got a beautiful  gold top mosque behind us and I think there's   a funky Monument over there as well that looks  like something out of like the Olympics we'll   find out more about that probably in a few minutes  but yeah First Impressions shim Kent is pretty cool let's go to the park let's go to the park  shim k is right near the border of usbekistan   so a lot of people when doing and following the  Silk Road which is most famous in usbekistan get   the train from Tashkent the capital there up  to shimkent and then along to mateti so yeah   this is quite a famous stop here in Kazakhstan  as it is a Silk Road stop so it's very different   so far to places like caragan at aana where you  can see a lot of the Soviet architecture and the   different buildings there the futuristic feel of  aana shim Kent has got more uh traditional feel   bit more older City just me interrupting  but I don't know you can see on the GoPro   look at the mountains nice wow mountains in the  background so much Greenery here got the mosque   The Monuments and then over here is the downtown  shink T so yeah it's cool here so far it's super   hot which is nice Ro which makes a nice change  for us nice change and look at the huge kazak flag and then this is Independence Park so we're   just going to walk in here  and as Ash said taste the [Music] bread well check this out it's actually  really pretty it's got like a flower in the   middle of the bread it's like the dest pizza crust  you've ever had in your life let's give it a go but we' seen these so all over the city we walk  past this stall it was freshly baking them It's   banging still warm as well is it it's still warm  it's a bit dewy it's fluffy it's just the best   yeah it's the best pizza dough you ever had  without toppings so good we just finished our   bread and that was absolutely delicious if you can  let us know in the comments the name of it and how   you would normally eat it that would be great cuz  we tried to Google and we couldn't really find   any information on it but yeah just hav to wander  around the park and it's pretty it's pretty nice   like most parks and Open Spaces green spaces here  that we've noticed in Kazakhstan um very well kept   and yeah it's just really really beautiful there's  quite a lot of like monuments and structures   and in the middle here there seems to be I'm  not sure what these are referenced to because   it's all in cerlic but in they've all got a  different year and then there's some cerlic   writing underneath explaining I guess maybe  some historic things that happen throughout   the year I don't I don't know but interesting  and I don't know what these are but they've   got these all over the place all just dotted  around up and down we're like really I don't   know what the point is there's nothing  under it not sure but interesting bit random we're going to go and check out this  monument in the middle which I think looks like   an Olympic torch but again I don't know what it's  for hopefully there's some information in English   but I've just noticed the very top of it  which I'll show you in a second if we can   see we learned in the museum in karaganda  that the top of the UR or they call Ura   is I can't remember the name of it I'll  put it down but this structure and it's   meant to kind of symbolize I think family  and peace and love and that kind of thing   but it's on the top of this structure the same  shape of the Y top of the yta but check this out I think we can go up it as well actually  but wow it's a banging day today honestly we   have missed the sun although the first day  we're out in the sun sun creamed everywhere   apart from my arms so unfortunately I've got  to wear my shirt rolled down otherwise I'll   have some burnt arms which we don't want  our first day in the sun let's check this out oh it's closed so we can't show  up it's a shame but there's the cerc   information and writing I'll have a Wonder  around see what's oh the flag look at that nice I really like the kazak  flag I think it's pretty cool   the Sun the eagle and then like the  design down the side is pretty nice yeah very cool so there's the structure  the monument and I guess actually that's   probably meant to be the Sun the bits  poking out at the edge and then in the   middle I can maybe not see on the GoPro uh  because that's the but that's the what the   top of the UTA looks like so it's nice  but look at this park it's absolutely   beautiful look at that the trees oh  wow so Pretty Pinks and purples bright green it feels so good to be back  somewhere where the weather is just nice it makes you feel better as well I  think obviously we've enjoyed our time so   far all over everywhere we've been but it is  just nice to walk around and enjoy yeah the   nature and you need places like this so  it's it's real nice that most cities in   Kazakhstan that we've visited so far have all  these beautiful parks and green spaces dotted   about yeah so nice and as they like to do as well  they've got a weat outdoor gym which is quite cool should probably give that  a go after that massive loaf of bread yeah another thing we've noticed here the  trees all of them all all of the trees   there as well they paint halfway up the  tree quite now I feel like I've been told   this before in a different country that they  do that could be Greece or something I can't remember but if you want to let me know  why again please comment below and tell   me something to do with like maybe keeping  them cool or something like that potentially   and look at what we just come across what's  this looks like it could be a fountain but   it's all metal grates I don't know but it's not  on yeah that's a fountain you can see it under the Gres again like most fountains or  all the fountains we've seen so   far they're not on so I don't know  when they turn them on but they're   always seem to be empty I then we've got  cool entrance into the park over there or exit but yeah just a really lovely park and  it's called Independence Park but yeah it's   a nice place to chill probably do a bit  more of that before we move to the next spot wonder if it used to be like a hotel or something just walked through just  still in the park we've just walked   to this area and then found a bunch  of I guess they look pretty abandoned   don't they abandon yurs yeah what  we wonder around this one's half a y maybe it was an old hotel or yeah place where  people could stay likeing this bit off it looks   closed yeah but you can actually see that's just  popping out there it's broken one but that's the   top of the UTA the structure that we got told  about yeah shant is it shantar yeah maybe I can't   remember think so but yeah there we go bunch of  yurs abandoned [Music] broken it's so nice just   to wander about in the distance you might be able  to hear it it's one of the first times I've heard   the call to prayer here in Kazakhstan Kazakhstan  itself is our tour guide said 70% Muslim so you   will hear it now and again when you are in  Kazakhstan but I think we're going to go to   the bizaar next I think we're going to find an  ice cream yeah so clean so nice so nice so clean   beautiful yeah K Kazakhstan is genuinely A vibe  like I love it here I love it so cool [Music]   the water on the river is so clear like  there's obviously Plants and Things down   there but you can see right through it  and wow look there's like tons of fish   here not sure if the GoPro will show you but  there's heaps of them I think that's actually   someone's phone it looks like a mobile  phone the must driv int pictures of the fish pretty big actually and this River just  runs down here oh no there a dead fish oh no oh no oh no someone's lost their trasers as  well oh well it's not strange it's a CER   River but it's got quite a lot of muck in it  so that's kind of random normally if a river is   clear it means it's clean but this  one actually has a little muck there   not in this case no I wonder if the fish  will get scared when they see their dead friend hopefully not [Music] nice man welcome to shim Ken thanks nice it's lovely here it's beautiful  here it's such a nice walk so relaxing   doesn't feel like we're in a city  right now yeah it's so peaceful   this is I think it probably goes on and  on but we're going to cut off soon but   this is honestly such a beautiful different  side to Kaz we've seen yeah it is so nice [Music] so we've come to the bizaar which was  probably used back in the day for the   Silk Road but now it's still in use but it  probably sells a lot of different stuff now   than back in the day let's have a little  look look around see what we can find [Music]   big old Market yeah look you can already  see the curs curs there's tons of them but   we have decided that we won't be trying that  today no we've had enough CS we've had enough CS the smell of meet and da just hit  you you walking didn't it absolutely I'm fish we just saw them in the river tons of veggies tons of fruit  this is this is my favorite part is   like seeing all the colorful fruit  and veggies I love it but no ice   cream no not yet H so we're going  to have a quick look around here   um just to get a break from the heat really yeah  it's actually nice to be inside it's cooler then   go get nice theme yeah and then heads into the  center shimit sound good sounds good to me that [Music] Ed I think up here is like the clothes  bit yeah I'll have one yeah Ro ch shop bread shop   maybe Bakery yeah oh she has ice cream oh yeah  got one you want to get one yeah yeah [Music] yeah to this small one small small small yeah one I found some ice cream that was [Music] easy ni so it's 150 per ice cream wasn't  it yeah yeah I 250 per ice cream   so 30p that wasn't expecting any  change actually yeah nice look got   her ice cream fresh from the Bazar  fresh from the machine who light it's like a proper 99 isn't it very sweet very da   yeah that's that's good where we  to enjoy these that's just what we needed well I wonder through the bizaar  really film it so my ice cream but how's   your ice cream it's it's very nice um yeah  like we've been to a few bazaars now and the   all going to sell the same stuff don't theys  of stuff in China yeah fake brands fake brands   um if you like that stuff it's yeah it's  perfect for you but but we're not looking   for anything today we bought what we needed  which was this and we're happy with our purchases so this feels like one of the  main streets here in shim Kent there's a   lot of cafes restaurants uh bars along  this street and it goes on for quite   a bit so we've had an ice cream now we  fancy a tea just to again take a break   from the Sun and yeah just enjoy the city  but it's been cool so far shim kad's really relaxed although it is a city  it doesn't really feel like   it that way but yeah it's tea time chai time [Applause] [Music] so we stopped for a we tea break Dan's ordered a  green tea and the lid look at this you break it it   comes off and if you're like taking a break from  your drink you pop it in it's pretty cool is it   and I have gone for a strawberry iced tea cuz it  is roasting today so just chilling just chilling   enjoy enjoying enjoying the sunshine yeah it's so  nice here this are seems to be kind of the high   end area like a lot of nice coffee shops and cafes  and things and it is honestly just so nice being   in a city where the trees are green for a start  cuz everywhere we've been it's been like still   winter trees with no leaves so it just feels like  we've been transported to summer I love [Music] it   how ni te looks nice that's bagging actually  that's so good I love it I love [Music] it just a retro tank casually driving through  the city center yeah he's very busy in this   chug so busy and everyone like every driver beeps  at folks so even if it's a green man they'll beep   at you while you're crossing the road it's like  it's a green man what's going on they just love [Music] beeping right all over the city we've spotted  UK or English or British telephone boxes   I don't know why they're here but they are but it  looks like inside them it's like is it is it like   a phone I don't really know actually cuz it's  got look at this tally 2 is the network we with   it's like you can top up or something maybe butas  a proper old but yeah like British telephone boxs   and they're all over the city we've seen at least  five or six of them but I don't know what they're   for and I don't know what you can use them for  but yeah I didn't expect to see that here and   it's only shim Kent we've not seen the Manana or  almati or anywhere else only here in shim Kent so   maybe if you know the answer let us know one why  they here and two what they used for yeah thank [Music] you in caranda we were spotting Soviet mosaics   and a ship K we're spotting British retro  telephone boxes so it's so weird it is how   this country is so different each part you visit  so we're just on a way to another park now the   street that we're walking on right now is like  a little path Street and it's like colored paths   with like again what I would describe as like  British style lamp poost yeah under the trees   like it's just so lovely it's such a walkable  country all the cities that we've been to are   so geared up for like people walking pedestrians  Parks everything yeah Bean spaces everywhere   so nice this is probably this has probably  been the most walkable City I'd say oh 100%   it's been really cool and health of the weather  it's absolutely incredible but yeah check these like just look at this it's absolutely  Immaculate like you would not all the   stereotypes about kazakstan mainly from  the movie I like it you this is actually   the real Kazakhstan this is look at  this in front of us I don't know what   it's meant like an art on installation  but it's like a TV it's probably one of   the best kept pars I've ever seen in my life  is yeah it's so nice so cool here I love it also with the H paved ground I've tripped Daniel  out cuz I've told him they're in the shape of   Cubes so those like 3D cubes so now we walking  on them feeling like you're in like a 3D [Music] floor we're still in the same par but this area  has like art installations of like local life so   there's the bread we had guy carrying a goat  there's the top of the yurt that Ash pointed out and wrestling sport that making jewelry but  yeah all just in this Park which is pretty cool well we have just read that the area here  or shim Kent region is actually famous for   tulips there was a giant tulip statue  back there a bit and we've just walked   through the park and in front of us are  all these tulips it's so beautiful look at this the white ones here and there's like ni yeah I thought it was just the nether   where you got your lips nope kakhan as  well look at this this p a bit dead bit   the red ones they're so nice and on the  middle as well like all these [Music] ones oh it's so pretty what the heck look at that bird where right there  it's a lie cuz his head just moved but look   oh yeah B oh my God is he just  chilling there what was that [Music] all see a bird like that [Music] so we've come to the biggest park in shim Kent ABY  park named after the poet on the Statue there and   it's meant to be the biggest and best park in  shim Kent so we're just going to take a stroll   Round Here enjoy the sunshine and see what it  has to offer I would say I'm glad it's been   sunny today cuz if it had been raining I think  our day would look very different yeah yeah   for sure done a lot of steps today too it's been  nice actually and since we've been in Kazakhstan   we've walked so much and comparing that to like  the last few weeks in Pakistan it's like total   opposite yeah it really is it's nice being able  to just freely walk about and not be like yeah   yeah just chill just nice and you know you're a  p kazic park when you can see a boxing machine   just there that is a symbol of a Kazakhstan  the boxing bag machine definitely they're   just literally everywhere yeah always and those  guys are we we do it yep honestly if you want to   invest in something in Kazakhstan buy a boxing  bag machine for sure and you will be a milliona   millionaire very quickly hello hi and you'll  be a millionaire very quickly oh there's like a   big rocket or Jet Jet yeah there's a big statue  up here let's go see it so there's some sort of   jet Monument that's above us looks like a bit  of a retro plane but yeah must be something   to do with the war Monument yeah this whole  street looks like it's dedicated to another war memorial oh yeah there's like hundreds  of names all down here all yeah everywhere commemorating something so this is all the names of the  people who died in the war and then the names   of the area they're from so you can imagine  how many names are along here and how many names are all along there there's another monument at the top here which I'm sure symbolizes  the war in some way too [Music] now this is a cool Monument You' got some like  tanks over here like old school tanks for the   war but you've also got one Ash check this  out doggy a little headb so uh yeah cute cute   little dog don't know what he did in the war but  they've commemorated him so that's nice well our   day in shim Kent has come to an end I hope you've  enjoyed us showing you around our first stop on   Kazakhstan Silk Road join us on the next Vlog as  we head to turkistan another place here in South   Kazakhstan but again thank you for watching  and see you on the next one bye-bye [Music]
