NFC I'm joined by the class of HQ Le doable Bryant mcfaden joining us here post game Mac this was none of what we were promised from the New York Jets it was going to be ad Rogers and offense to a stout defensive performance a year ago and we didn't see either of those things where do you start cleaning things up after this one defensively for the Jets at the line of scrimmage when you look at the Jets defense over the last few years that has been the one thing they've been able to hang their hat on even with the the woes or the inconsistencies on the offensive side has been the defense the toughness right uh being able to set the tone at the line of scrimmage tackle well harass opposing quarterbacks and make life miserable for offenses that they were facing in tonight's matchup we saw the total opposite I've never seen a New York Jets defense under coach Robert slah that soft at the point of attack the running lanes that were wide open you can put you can drive an Amazon Prime truck through there and deliver all the packages you want to deliver based on the job the offensive lineman were doing for Jordan Mason I mean his first career start 28 Touches for 147 yards and a touchdown that's a bu luckily they only gave him 28 attempts because if he got anything north of 30 who knows what he would have finished the game with Debo did chew into some of that production did he need Debo because his running style was something that was causing issues for the front for the defense on all three levels for the New York Jets they didn't want to tackle they weren't allowing the offensive lineman to uh get to the to the second level I mean it was a it was a horrible watch for the New York Jets defensively just knowing what we've seen them seen them do in the past stopping the run is a test of will just as much as it is a matter of scheme dues you were with this Jets team almost daily throughout Camp relative to what your expectations were coming in how alarming was this run stuffing defense or lack thereof yeah it's very alarming moose and when you look at it they were kind of soft in the middle and I think a guy that they missed sorely today was lucky fotu who they signed this off season from the Arizona Cardinals he's a bigger body type defensive tackle and they didn't have him so you know guys like Solomon Thompson and Jaylen Holmes are in there trying to hang on to those double teams and BM Cony alluded to it right uh when when you have a defensive line you're led by your defensive line you expect that group to show up and be the focal point of your defense well that did not happen today Jordan Mason ran with purpose uh obvious VI ly he was ready for his opportunity he took full advantage 28 carries 147 yards one touchdown should have actually had multiple touchdowns a couple were called back but kudos to the offensive line for the San Francisco 49ers that was the one of my keys going into this game right they have a rookie at guard and Dominique puny and I thought that Quinny Williams could take full advantage of that but that just did not happen today and if you're the New York Jets you got to go back to the drawing board right because you should have known a running back at 5 foot 11 almost 230 lbs they were going to run downhill at you and it seems like the just defense just had no answer for it it certainly looked that way and just as productive as this offense was for the San Francisco 49ers that's how bad the Run Stop was for the Jets again 180 yards rushing on the ground dudes what about this Kyle Shanahan run scheme makes it so Plug and Play I won't sit here and suggest that yeah Christian mcaffrey isn't a plus one both in the pass and the run and you're going to have a drop off but it seems like you can take a serviceable player putting into this run scheme and you're going to get certain things like this yeah moose it's the misdirection and BM could talk to you about this they give you so much pre-ap motion you your eyes have to be so disciplined on defense on some of those Jordan Mason runs right the blocking scheme was going to the left but he would break out to the right right so if you're not following your keys right C Shanahan will cut you up no matter who the running back is and that's why people have always questioned in regards to his scheme and even his father's scheme right if you just have a decent running back will be fine if a guy is a one cut get downhill type of running back he'll have success in this Shanahan tree and that's why a lot of people also question Brock py now I'm not one of those people I think Brock py is a really good quarterback and he's perfect for this system but Kyle is so masterful in regards to the pre-nap motion the short motions right have your eyes over here we're going to run it this way right you think it's a reverse this way but we're coming out the back way and then he so multiple in regard to his Personnel I mean you see all type of personnel Kyle yek is a fullback but they use him as a receiver sometimes Christian mcaffrey is a running back but they use him as a receiver sometimes Debo Samuel is a wide back they put him out in receiver and they put him in the back field so that's why it's so hard to prepare for this offense because they give you so many looks personnel-wise but then they give you so much pre- snap motion you have to be disciplined with your eyes or you'll get cut up like the jet did today San Francisco 49ers possessed the ball for 38 minutes and 40 seconds Aaron Rogers has started 246 games in his career no team has possessed it for more time than the 49ers did on this night so if you're looking for flow offensively there's the reason why you did not find it we need an Aaron Rogers thought here because we didn't get the sample size maybe that we were going to expect to see the play count wasn't there the time of possession neither they really were playing from their heels throughout much of this game because of what the 49ers did in the Run game what did you make of Rogers in his re return uh we saw some good things we saw some things that I guess offensively they kind of left on the table most importantly he came out of this ball game healthy right that's the most important thing you wanted to win you didn't win but at least Aaron Rogers got through this ball game healthy I would love to see an an aggressive style to this offense you know in the first half he only had seven completions seven of those completions came to two guys Garrett Wilson and Bree Hall we saw him open up a little more in the pass in game in the second half you talk about Alan Lazar getting involved in the passing game that's a plus but it stars and it stops L Joe at the line of scrimmage you know we talked about how San Francisco won the at line of scrimmage against the Jets defense the same can be said defensively for the Jets and how they just won that game within the game against the offensive lineman from the Jets remember they invested so much into improving the offensive line for the Jets because that's been an issue in in in so many years right and then they've added depth but but they were not Tough Enough as well when you talk about in these type ball games Le J you know better than anybody you have to play tougher longer and they they showed spurts here and there but for San Francisco for the entirety of the ball game they were the tougher group on either side and that kind of enabled Aaron roders to a degree with him being comfortable in the pocket to be able to be aggressive and so that's that's my concern moving forward for the Jets because the days of Aaron Rogers evading Defenders in the pocket making people Miss pump faking and things like that I don't think those days are there anymore so you have to be extremely sound for him to be able to be as successful as he can be when you talk about working from within the pocket I think for me the biggest concerning thing was them not being able to get the Run game going right with Bree Hall they really struggled at the point of attack I mean Fred Warner is a freaking nature like the speed he plays at is astronomical it's almost like he's in the back field in the Huddle when the Jets called to play like he knows where the play is going every single time I thought the Jets online actually protected pretty well besides the one Tyron Smith uh gave up the sack to Nick Bosa other than that I thought they protected really well you know what really hurt these guys uh fellas they didn't have many plays they had 37 plays yeah before Tyrod Taylor came in in the end of the fourth quarter B Ma you noce most offenses are going to get 60 to 65 plays in the game 37 plays in the four fourth quarter like you're not going to build a rhythm up on offense it's hard to get continuity on offense when you only have 37 plays fellas they had five three and outs or less and the one less was the fumble that breeze Hall had you have five three and outs you're not going to win a football game because you cannot build continuity and get a rhythm on offense so that was what was so concerning for me because with this revamped offensive line I thought they would be able to run the football to put sustained Drives together they really did good job on that third drive but besides that we didn't see them having any sustained drives and you can't build a rhythm on offense if you're going three and out every time you're out there to your point dudes seven combined tackles for Fred Warner felt like about 10 more than that a forced fumble and so much of what he does like you said quarterback on the defense very cerebral doesn't show up in that box score I will also point out from a number standpoint that 30 was it 37 37 but 37 is more before Tyrod came in yeah 37 is more than four so to your point he got out he you got to see a healthy Aaron roders and that arm Talent still apparent in moments in this game so offensive flow that hopefully will come throughout this year let's finish with a thought here on the 49ers because just like years before this is a team that dealt with the greatest heartbreak getting there and losing it's a Kansas City Chiefs team that seems to be better is there a world where you could see this being a San Francisco 49ers team I mean this was page one of the KY janahan Playbook we nothing from the 49ers offensively from a scheme standpoint you saw no Christian mcaffrey you were forced to hand the ball to Debo Samuel a little bit Brandon auk's got to be better with that fresh ink on the contract is there a chance that we get a better version of the 49ers this season Mac uh yeah there's a chance and the reason why I say that guys is because they didn't have Christian mcaffrey tonight mhm they didn't have Dre green law tonight hunga also in the secondary and they did not miss either any of those guys this was dominant stuff from the twos and Brandon I just got to Camp well not to camp but he just got with the team Trent Willams just got with the team so the Rhythm wasn't all the way together because these guys has they haven't been practicing with the offensive guys and they didn't miss a beat so to your point yes I can see a a a a a world where these two teams see each other at some point point when it's all said and done because the talent level is there you don't question the talent and then the continuity and just the coaching is so good just the coaching is so good and senson the new DC former player uh at linebacker in the NFL it seems like he has a system in place where these guys are really believing in what they do and the one issue for San Francisco a year ago defensively was their inability to stop downhill running attacks remember how successful Baltimore was Christmas night and if you look at this the the Super Bowl as well Isaiah pko had some success running downhill I feel like that could have been an area of concern for them especially in tonight's match up knowing they were facing off against Breeze Hall and knowing the Jets wanted to get the running game going downhill Malik Collins Javon hardgrave these guys were great at the point of a tap two gapping from time to time and making sure they won their individual matchups and that allow a guy to your point Le and Fred Warner to be all over the football field because when you look at Fred when he plays the linebacker position guys his depth is deeper than most inside backers he he gets at that depth so he can actually see the flow and his defensive tackles they do a great job in keeping him clean what I mean when I say that they don't allow the lineman to get to the second level to dirty up Fred War a little bit he has a clean view to the ball and he gets there super fast so to your point if they stay healthy and they're not healthy right now but it looked like they were because they have depth and they're so well coached we started week one with a wow from Kansas City we end week one with a wow from San Francisco round three February come on J what you doing fore [Music] fore fore spee spe fore
