Padres full lineup with Tatis Jim all right San Diego in Southern California what's going on hour one John and Jim with you for the next three hours you darish back Fernando tatis Jr still back and we have her first real lineup since the return of tatis we spent the better part of a year discussing I mean we spent some time talking about what are the Padre's going to do year when actually I mean it felt like forever we talked about it at night on it did we talked about it at night we talked about it during the day we argued about on social media not you I mean we I agreed with everything you said I I had the same conversation that you know I I agreed but now we actually have a Padre's lineup with tatis now remember Monday Jim they didn't have the full lineup because konorth was out who else at on Monday kronor and profar and profar St so this is what it looks like and we could argue the merits of it at the end of the day I think you know it's preferred because you got tatis in it and it's lengthen Luis arise is going to DH Fernando tatis Jr's in R proar hits third and left Machado cleans up as suspected konorth at first hits fifth Xander bogur at the second baseman batting sixth Jackson Merill bats seventh then campy and McCoy your catcher and your short stop in this lineup so what do you think again we knew of these seven hitters they'd be in some order one through seven with the return of tatis with profar croner worth Bogarts Etc uh what do we make of this with Jackson merell batting seven jerks and pro for hitting third and Jake corworth batting fifth I like it maybe I would have put konorth third third and and proar fifth in between Manny and Bogarts okay but other than that like I've said it yeah they've play good baseball the lineup is deep I mean Jackson Merill I know some people might say well Jackson Merl has been the best player on this team why is he hit maybe third I think down the road if he continues to play like this in his career he'll be hitting towards the top of the lineup oh in his career yes but 2024 I'm with you I I say leave him sixth or seven yeah he he's been doing all of his damage all year long down at the bottom of this lineup and just keep him there you don't just don't don't worry about it just keep him there hit him sixth or seventh and continue to let him be him and produce at a high level where you know we talked about yesterday with Bryce where he I think a lot of people are going to agree he's the MVP of this team can can I just make this point because there was a lot of like vitriol over the idea of batting jerks and profar further down in the line oh everyone hated me for it and that's that's fine everyone's got an opinion we have an opinion and you didn't even say like you will bat Pro for sth and here's why when you look at this lineup and when you look at the way he's played here recently You could argue that jerks and profar could bat lower in the lineup honestly Jim I'm I kind kind of agree now there's still time for profar to be the player that he was in the first half of the year and he's played every single day he's had amazing value like I don't need to go sell you on jerks and profar but to be honest his last month where he's been hurt and he's been hit by pitches and he's been playing every day he's been a sub 200 hitter over the last month so to your point I'm not opposed to moving him further down the lineup I'm not saying he has about seventh or sixth or even fifth I'm just not opposed to the idea of it happening and then maybe he starts hitting more like he was earlier in the year and then you move him back up in the lineup but this idea that no there's no scenario where jerks and profar can bat lower than third I think that's pretty shortsighted because again we've got a large enough sample size here recently where he hasn't really produc the way he was earlier we all want to see him hit I'm just telling you right now he hasn't hit the same way he did the first couple of months of the year he's right he's he's been awful this last month it's I mean fact he hasn't been the same player like we all love jerks and profar but both are true jerks and profar while he has been fantastic for this team all season long has been in a pretty prolonged slump here for all of August and really the second half he's had big moments for sure oh he has yep but I my stupid phone is not working we looking for his August numbers second I'm looking for his August numbers I mean they're it's sub 200 I know that it was sub 200 and I don't know like the detailed numbers here but it's sub 200 196 689 ops isn't horrific 196 but he hit 196 he got on base a lot 336 but a 689 Ops and his Ops right now for the season has has dropped to 841 right which is still obviously very solid but has come back to earth over the last month yes so hitting him third okay give him put him in front of of Manny maybe Manny gives the prote ction there and you you stick Manny between profar and Jake yeah um it it would it wouldn't have mattered if you switch Jake and you switch profar I feel like because they're both I agree not playing particularly well at the plate yep um but overall I like the lineup I like where the team's at they're getting you darish back tonight that's another big boost for this team huge and it's now full Squad it's a full Squad they'll get Kimmy back at some point I'm not overly concerned about Kimmy it's not like he was hitting the cover off the ball either close to full Squad if it is close to a full Squad you know who some of the onus is going to be on and it's not tonight it's not tonight I don't think it's this week it might not be this month but if you're gonna plug Fernando tatis Jr in the two- hole which I'm all for I'm all for tatis being towards the top of the lineup leading off he's been great for this team previously hitting second he's had success but if tatis is hting in that two- hole you're going to need productivity obviously this has been among the better offenses in baseball this year and you hope that it's so stupid to say it that way I'm like I hope it continues with Fernando tatis Jr you'd like to think the offense takes off with Fernando tatis Jr I'm just I'm not banking on anything yet from tatis like I'm not putting my eggs in the tatis basket and being like you're H that too home man you better have five total bases tonight because we're counting on you at some point I'm gonna be asking that of tatis I don't even know what I'm asking of him right now just be healthy and quasi productive kinda right just play every day like get to the postseason healthy yeah good point yeah like playing half decently have a couple moments that's so weird to say isn't it like we're not asking him to be like Fernando tatis Jr necessarily I mean we all want to see it well you know why we're not asking him to be that way because of how everyone else has played because yeah how the team has played he's not coming in trying to be the Savior I agree like they're not on a 15 game stretch where they're one and 14 three and and they need that guy to come in to be Savior for the team to help put them back on track that's what that's not what tatis is here for and that that's such a great luxury to have that you've been playing such great baseball that a guy of ta's stature is coming back not being viewed as this guy needs to save us like no he's coming back and I think the view of it is only to like he's going to help us and he's gonna amplify things and he's going to make us better that to me you don't I I don't feel like he there's any pressure there for him it's it's it's a it's a great situation to come back in because of how they have played now if it was the opposite like if it was like last year's team and at this point in the season they're like I think eight or 10 games under 500 right and then tatis is returning then everybody would look at tatis to make an immediate impact yeah go hit 10 home runs to help this team turn around and and make a a you know run at the postseason that's that's not it all right here I feel the same way about you darish that you've been waiting for darish and he's a big name and he earns a lot of money and he's had some impactful moments obviously as a padre but I don't think you need him to be anything spectacular right off the bat in fact a day like today I'd be surprised if he gave you more than four Innings that I'd be surprised if he threw more than 60 or 65 pitches but the position that you're in you know yeah actually you know I'm going to change my tune for a second Jim and here's why I just thought about this on the Fly complete game tonight no you're going to need more than that he's and if it is a complete game I want to see him thr no shut out no more than no hitter okay because you can do better than that he's walking a batter is not game yeah that would be good that I would say would be good but here hear me out yesterday when the Padres were off they got no result they were looking for just everyone wins M yada yada y so we look up today and everything great start baseball the second half or the second whatever it is they're three and a half games up in a playoff spot are you kidding me I'm like walk like ah tatis doesn't need to be spectacular and darish doesn't need to be anything spectacular and I'm thinking myself they lose tonight and they get the wrong results Jam two and a half games up in a playoff spot so are we still going down the path we' going down the last 10 minutes these produce immediately I still stand by my of of how confident I feel with this team how I'm putting them in the postseason right I I just it's hard to Envision with darish coming back tonight tatis returning the other day Kim's gonna come back here presumably in the next week or so Manny's playing the way he's playing Jackson Merl's playing the way he's playing L arise is playing Amazing this Bullpen the back this team yeah I mean something like catastrophic would have to happen in my mind and I just don't feel like that's going to happen with this team and and we have it in the rundown here but one of the things is what Kevin wrote about how it's a 180 basically it's night and day yeah the mentality the mindset how before the season when schil went out on his World Tour to see all the players and and and have some like kind of hard conversations with them about the mindset we need to have going into this season how last year cannot happen again I just with all of that and how they're playing and the the the chemistry they have as a team dude I that's where I get the confidence from knowing and thinking that they're going to make the postseason no matter what even though like you said I mean you're you're only a half game up on Arizona you're three up on Atlanta and you're three and a half up on the Mets yeah like you got to if you have a bad night and what I mean by a bad night is not if you lose because that alone isn't enough for it to be a bad night the bad night is you lose and teams like the Mets and Braves and Diamondbacks win and when you get all of those results in combination it becomes a really bad night and you could look up tomorrow and the Padre's could be two and a half games up in a playoff spot now the opposite could be true they could win the Mets could lose to the Red Sox today and you could be four and a half games up in a playoff spot like I still need that separation is my point I feel great about this team too I feel confident about this team and then I look up and I'm like well hold on there's still 20s something games left and they're only three and a half games up so like every you've been saying and I agree with you like any one week could change a lot I I would say any one day it's like you have a bad night and get the wrong results and I could come in here tomorrow and be like you they're two and a half games up in a playoff spot things just got real real and that could happen in 24 hours or the opposite 79 and 61 you're 18 games over 500 I know in September crazier things have happened yeah no you're right you're right Mets are 11 games over 500 and out on the outside looking at at 11 games over 500 in the National League and and of the four teams we mentioned one will not be in and they really I'd say PR's strings pulled from the CE trade to the arise trade to the pickups the estratas and so on Peraltas and so on and so forth salanos just I think PR's done a better job than he did a year ago managing the roster but schils on that list too but I don't know if he's in my he's in my top five I don't know if he's in my top three I would go I would definitely go Jackson Merill Merrill's got it matter what I I would put Mike schil in my top three I would okay over over PR in terms of job done this year yes because one of the biggest problems last year was the relationship of Bob Melvin and AJ PR and every time the GM and manager have had problems around here it's ended horribly there's always been dysfunction and disconnect and and say whatever you want about preller he's a fantastic job this season I give him a ton of credit and I think schil and PR's relationship yeah that's probably a better way to put it it's it's it's really good like the the relationship between Tingler and preller was really good but no one trust no one respected Tingler you have to respect at least what schil has done because every every season he's managed with the Cardinals was a good year I think he won manage of the year in there one year in 21 when they won those 17 straight games or 18 straight games right so there's already a some type of respect there from from the players and I think the third one to me while he started out really really bad I think Manny Machado oh well he's been great yeah like yes his play on the field is uh helped a lot right but I I do think and we we' talked about it as you know recently as I think last week you know know last year for him I feel like from a leadership standpoint was was really bad and I think what happened in the off season with the passing of Peter seidler with hopefully some reflection with getting on the same page with Mike schil with you know you don't have Juan stto there to be the onea to your or 1B to your 1 a right you're not competing with anybody on the team as far as who's the who's the man right like you're the man okay don't you don't have to worry about sto anymore I think what he has done this year in that Clubhouse I think can't be understated now there's probably been times where it's like oh here's Manny again like oh Manny's doing this again but that moment in Philly where he just kind of I'm done this is it no more excuses we're I'm going to fix this I don't care if my falls off no more excuses and since that point this team's been like a rocket ship and we haven't even like from that point on he has kind of shut up and the talking has been as bad like I haven't heard anything that would be overly consequential like from a polarizing perspective controversial critical perspective from Machado all I've seen from Machado for 63 straight games I think that's what it is in Philly is He just flat out hits he's like a 920 Ops player with 14 home runs in those six 62 or 63 games he's been unbelievable for all the criticism he rightfully took in 2023 he should get maybe equal amount of credit for how this is played out to get to this point 18 games over 500 the best season by a Padre's team in potentially 25 years yeah in terms of win loss record regular season Manny Machado deserves some of that credit let's go to the phones here with Dave we have Nick dashel who's covering he's 0 for four every player on this team has been 0 for four all of them Jackson Marill Manny Machado all of them he's 0 for four yeah and if they win the World Series and tatis doesn't have a hit the rest of the year nobody cares and he will by the way he's he's he's gonna be a Difference Maker the question is to what extent is he GNA be the 2020 tatis or somewhere in between you know like a one- game example against an FCS opponent like does that carry over to this week or not and thanks for hopping on um kind of I I don't ever expect to do something like that again it just happened to you know was one of those situations where why show why show future opponents anything if you don't have to the run is working um you know ID know State couldn't stop it they do want to run the pretty good at keeping you know he's just I know I have not heard any Oregon stuff really and I I don't they they know this is a game they got they got to win if if they want to get to where they want to get to and so I I haven't I have not no I I don't think so I mean yeah I I I think their mind's on San Diego State Nick dashel with us right now he covers Oregon State for The Oregonian it's interesting what you just said there like that they know that they can't look B past San Diego State if they want to get where they want to get to well they're in a league of two right now as we know we also know there's also a spot open in a college football expanded playoff for a program outside of the quote unquote power four um you know that group of five spot so to speak um like what is the goal here for Oregon state is it hey let's go 12-0 and begin the expanded playoff like what's the realistic goal heading into a season where there is no Conference Championship to play for well that was the that was the the selling that was the selling point Trent Bray had when he took over the program in nov um you know we met with a team that you know why why can't we make a run at this thing with the roster that we can put together and the schedule that we have but I mean realistically I mean they're they're not GNA say yeah that's probably unrealistic and given that Oregon's on the schedule Boise State's on the schedule and you know probably a couple other minefields along the way 12-0 seems farfetched even 11- one you know 11-1 with a loss to Oregon probably seems farfetch but I mean that's that's where this program has to think because they want to stay relevant they want to be able to you know someday get back in a power power conference and the only way to do that is is to win and and keep people thinking about Oregon State that's not going to happen if you're four and eight or five- seven so that's the goal I I don't know if this team is capable of that I there's no way of really knowing it just watching One game so far DJ you off of Florida State he did not play well the last couple games here gavan McCoy steps in what can we expect to see from from him on Saturday what kind of quarterback uh does uh Oregon State have uh with with McCoy yeah they didn't really let him they didn't really let him loose in in the in the opener he can he can run a little bit but I just based on what he he'd done at Idaho and you know what we've seen in practice he's he's you know he's he's not a PO you know he's not going to stay in the pocket kind of he he moves around a lot lot but um I don't expect that he's GNA you know Run 10 times a game or anything like that he's he's got a good arm he showed it on that one touchdown pass he through the David Wells for 55 yards and um he he he won the battle I don't know that he was the clear-cut winner but but that was the guy they picked out of Camp between the three guys so I think for now they're going with javanni and you know seeing see where they can go but you're probably going to see my guess is you're probably going to see Jabari Johnson for at least one series that they haven't said that but I kind that that's just kind of reading between the lines that they they want to give Jabari Johnson some more uh experience because he he's never you know he hasn't played up until uh last week in college and you know they really like his potential as a as a dual threat quarterback so you'll probably see him a little bit uh I mean from there I don't know but yeah Javan McCoy is you know one game he's you know he's he was he was good wasn't I was going to say he's great but they really didn't give you know he threw 10 passes so it wasn't like they gave him an opportunity to air it out a lot either but you know given his track record at Idaho where he you know led the vandals into the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs and a pretty good season I you know I would say that you know San Diego State's got some challenges with him Nick dashel with us right now again he covers Oregon State for The Oregonian will give away San Diego State Oregon State tickets momentarily I I know you're asked this a ton I know everyone in Corvette Alis and in the Pacific Northwest is asking about the futures of Oregon State and Washington State this is so unpredictable to some extent do you have any best guess at how this ultimately is resolved I mean if you had to put a dollar on something is the most likely path for Oregon State and Washington State over the next 12 to 24 months what do you think is most likely well as much as Beaver fans want want to get in the Big 12 or ACC I mean those are possibilities I suppose but some stuff is really going to have to happen I think the most likely path is is somehow they convince Stanford and Cal to come back to the West Coast they rebuild the Pack 12 pull in you know three four teams from the Mountain West you know Cal Stanford maybe San Diego your San Diego State UNLV um Boise Colorado State maybe Air Force those schools maybe get one more and get a good 10 team conference in in the pack you know in the Pack 12 um is that is that a is that a power conference uh it's the fifth best conference I'd say but but it's probably a step above a G5 so I think that's ultimately what where this heads but I that's just that's just based on you know conversations I have with people and and no and there's absolutely no decisions that have been made whatsoever that's just that's just my gut feeling yeah it's been a fascinating time as we know it'll behind closed doors had the series for being a Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday Tigers Padres in San Diego and then the Padres requested to play a game on Labor Day so the series was Tuesday through Thursday the Padre's then said hold on we could have a holiday game we would prefer to play Monday than Tuesday and the reason the game was at 340 not earlier San Diego was traveling back from the East so the union would have to sign off sign off on it Detroit was traveling in from Detroit so it was like the best of all worlds you play on Labor Day which the Padre's prefer the game didn't start too early because the teams were traveling and that's why there's an off day Tuesday because it was supposed to be a series that was actually Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and they just moved a game to a holiday that theory makes more sense than our theory of like oh they played too many games in a row they have to just stop it I mean when you put in front of Eric grer and the Padre's an opportunity to sell at that ballpark on a Monday do a giveway and have it be Memorial Day well actually SB day my bad Memorial days you don't think of course they're going to take that opportunity but like does now again I can't confirm that but doesn't that make sense yes and and not every team played on Monday either by the way right which also proves the point maybe they initially had an off day there so that was another thing that you could be like well if every team is playing on Monday then it makes sense true I like that theory yeah I I think it makes more sense than my theory which is like doesn't make any sense and I don't even know what my the is I think if you combine them with there has to be an off day there somewhere yeah with also the Padres is wanting to play on Monday on the holiday I think you combine those two it makes sense of course the Padre's with they're not going to miss hey you guys want to have an off day on a holiday or do you want to have a game on a holiday where you're gonna have 45,000 people there and make a bunch of money oh we need we need to have a game on that day yeah no I mean it just makes more sense to play Labor Day with it being a an off day and then someone told me that I didn't even think I don't even know what day it is so like you know I think I just play my game every day and it all adds up how are you feeling physically at this point I me it's uncharted waters for you going into a longer season You' been playing Big League level for an entire season that's just a different tax on your body and your mind but you seem to be playing some of your best baseball of the year are you feeling as strong as you look yeah I'm good I'm ready to go you know ready to keep going for another two months how much we got left so ready to go you feel a little bit of extra Rush on this is a playoff down the stretch uh no just keep the game simple stay calm and be yourself you know I'm not going to make it more than it is like I have it on season so just keep playing baseball how encouraging is though from a team perspective to be getting some more of your pieces back you've gotten Joe back you've gotten toddy back you're getting you back today it's pretty nice to have those reinforcements coming on after everything that you guys have done along the way yeah it's nice to know we've been you know playing our asses off and playing hard you know getting some pieces back too and continue to play that way it's going to make it even easier and even better what would it mean for you to win with you the year I know you don't care about the personal stuff but that's still I'm not gonna answer I swear it's not gonna really cross my mind unless it happens until I see it on screen you know but right now I'm not there I'm not thinking about myself like a whole season I don't think there right time to change anything I think the team's been going good The Vibes been really good lately and that's that's all that matters scoring tonight how much of a boost to have that guy just back in the rotation after everything yeah no it's it's really exciting you know I'm glad he's back I'm glad he worked through his stuff you know it's yourself is more important than anybody else at the end of the day but you know him being back and working hard and getting ready to compete for us you know that's awesome so I had a lightsaber bat I'm just curious uh what led to that design and when we'll be seeing that out there yeah you know I think I think there's there was a red one before a blue one but I wanted a blue one and I asked and and then I didn't get to use it m I didn't get it approved so I couldn't use it during players weekend but I used in BP a couple times it kind of just chose my back bag now why'd you choose blue out of curiosity just I didn't want the original red one I wanted something different got obviously fantasy football is a huge topic of conversation this week do you play yeah yeah I'm in the team league but I'm not very good so I'll see what happens uh do you have any good players I mean what's your fancy football team name uh I'm team Rook because Peralta just continuously calls me Rook every day so I kind of went with Rook um it team's pretty good not bad everybody got surprised they took Kelsey in the second round so they were all mad at me but you know young guy like to do some some crazy stuff I like that you kind of have the same mindset too where it's like I'm just going to handle my business every Sunday on there and let that do the top yeah yeah yeah keep up with it when I can but you know win or lose I'm having fun no Dolphins fan yeah I like I like the Heat and I like the Dolphins too my dad likes the Dolphins so I kind of there but yeah like the Dolphins that's a good question from Mar like well you're from Baltimore you're a Ravens fan right no Dolphins so he took two of the first round and then Kelsey in the second round and everyone like thanks for Ravens fan that did yeah that surprises me yeah I mean you grew up in Baltimore they've been awesome by and large they're a really good team now he would have grown up during like when they won a Super Bowl right no no he was not you want to know my theory on this there's no proof I'm just totally just making it up he said he follow he's a dolphins fan because his dad's a dolphins fan well his dad's probably old enough he might hate the Ravens because they used to be the Browns so when they left he might have became a dolphins fan call so that that would be my idea on why he wouldn't be a Baltimore fan but in Jackson's Heyday is 2013 Ravens yeah4 10 or 11 so I mean that's he'd have been younger than that 10 years ago he's 21 it was 11 years ago he been 10 that's like the Heyday of of a kid being a sports fan was for me yeah you know 10-year-old I I think you'd be but again if you're a Dolphin fan I guess it's not that big of a deal you're 11 years old or whatever and your dad has of the show she's been with us a number of times over the years throughout the course of the NFL season back with us on John and Jim so here we go again it feels like it's always the same old story when the Chiefs are coming off a Super Bowl I mean is this a dumb question to start the season by saying Chiefs are the field and thanks for hopping on but can I ask that question is that legitimate to say chiefs or the field to win a Super Bowl as we start 2024 I mean it's certainly feels like if there were ever a team to go back to back to back it would be this Chiefs team but it's very hard like when I look at it kind of take a step back it's it's really hard to win two Super Bowls in a row and that's why we've never seen three so you know I I yes I it feels right to say that but I do think once you get to the AFC playoffs then it's going to be kind of a gauntlet of you know more 5050 games where in a one game sample set it's going to be harder to win so yes I get it but also you know very hard to do for good reason who who's the biggest competition for the Chiefs in the AFC in your opinion then you know it's going to be interesting to see how the playoffs shake out because I can see a scenario where you know the ASD title game could again be between the Ravens and they decide not to do something nonsensical like not throw the ball more than two times in the second half so you know I can see something like that a team that's kind of well has a veteran quarterback but I also can see kind of this sneaky situation where a team like the Texans goes in and kind of scares everyone and by the way Aaron Rogers is still coming for you so there there's a number of ways to see how this might work out but it really comes down to health with me for a lot of them santhia freand NFL Network back with us right now John and Jim San Diego Sports 760 let's touch on tomorrow's game specifically between the Chiefs and the Ravens the Chiefs a year ago obviously opening up at home getting ousted by the Lions on that Thursday night game how do you feel about this game in general tomorrow I know the Ravens are getting some points how do you think this turns out I think this one goes a little differently than last year I mean if you look at that game again it's really about Miss opportunities for the Chiefs I mean there were about 35 dropped balls in that game so I don't know I just don't think that's necessarily going to happen again I I feel like when I'm looking at this team in general top to bottom they have a really nice blend of continuity at Keith key places and then they do have you know one new old lineman that's kind of a big deal but also you've still got like all of these tight ends that are back and a bunch of you know the receiving core is now a little bit more veteran so you know I think this is a strong one where Andy Reid it's like we back we're back to the like Andy Reid coming off a buy you know like the biggest buy of the summer so I have a little bit more faith in that considering the Ravens are I think 60% of their o line will be different so their snaps at o line you know there's three new o linemen but that's about 60% of full snaps which is a lot biggest offseason story was with the ners I feel like every day was what's BR and I du situation is he going to sign are they going to trade him well now he's back with the ners Trent Williams is also back with the ners they're pretty much bringing everybody back this season from their Super Bowl team last year with everybody back in the fold now and and Status Quo remaining like are they the team to beat the NFC in your opinion you know I think the Eagles would like to have a word because a lot of what happens for me comes down to your schedule and unfortunately for the ners it's less about you know this weird amount of distractions and crazy things going on and more about they don't get to play the Giants twice and they don't get to play the commanders twice right so you know unfortunately for the Niners they just have a more difficult schedule in general I believe they have like the AFC North as well which to me is the hardest division in all football so I'm looking at the Eagles I'm looking at their schedule and I'm thinking that could be for the Buy in fact they make the Buy in the most amount of my simulations this next season it doesn't they're the best team it just means they have the best team relative to their schedule and with the Eagles I know the schedule part is a huge factor in this but just like from a player standpoint with the addition of Sequon Barkley That's big for their offense but they also lost guys that are pretty important to that club with Fletcher Cox and Jason Kelce do you think like player for playerwise they could match up and have the best best team in the NF NFC in your opinion yeah I mean look you're never going to replace Jason Kelsey or Fletcher Cox very easily it just doesn't happen especially people have a really hard time understanding how centers work myself included so that is a huge deal however they did some things to mitigate that like getting saquan Barkley changes the threat of the run on every single play even more so than it was last season and then on the defensive line you know now you have Vic fangio who runs a little bit different style of Defense so is this going to be a a kind of I mean maybe we see a full like what is Jaylen Carter really going to do remember how well we how highly regarded he was as a football player but coming out of last season so I think that kind of reset could be good for them and provide a few new wrinkles and looks that we aren't used to it's not going to be tush push or nothing from the Eagles Cynthia frin NFL Network with us right now John and Jim San Diego Sports 760 we know about your your Lions fandom right you're a lions fan they were within um I guess mere minutes really of reaching a Super Bowl a year ago oh dear God um sorry about that yeah so how do you feel about it now I mean running it back obviously with San Francisco and we've talked about the Eagles I mean do you see a path for them to to have a comparable run or how challenging is that going to be it's always challenging to win games in the playoffs I think that you know focus on one thing at a time and that's making it to the playoffs the schedule works in the Lions favor in terms of they have a great Old Line we know that Jared gof really likes to play inside or in favorable weather so they do have both of those things working for them but I also think I mean look as a fan I will tell you I as soon as that game was over I was obviously really sad but I was actually more happy that I even got a chance to see that in the first place because that's the most I've ever seen the best I've ever seen this team do in my entire life so pretty pretty pretty special things no matter what but I think they returned so many players and added some key positions to me it will really come down to if that secondary can hold up because you know that that was a huge problem last year I mean to be able to give up that many passing yards to be able to lose a lead like that in the second half it wasn't because of a decision to go for on fourth down or kick a field goal it was a decision to you know they needed to the secondary to make a few stops and they just couldn't get it done staying with that division with the Lions and the Packers Jordan love the Bears are in the fold now like would you consider that one of the best divisions in the NFC or how do you view that division now with Caleb and and with the Bears yeah I mean I I'm very excited for what Caleb can be and what he should be you know obviously USC is in kind of both of our backyards so we know how good he is but I think it's gonna take a hot minute I know he looked so great in the preseason I know Hard Knocks I I understand all of that but like let's give him a beat to adjust to game speed I don't trust that o line yet they're going to have to prove it to me a little bit more than what I've seen so far and I do think the Bears defense actually is you know they're starting off the season very healthy so that bolsters their opportunities for me to me they are just on the outside possibly looking in they are right up there so my my seventh seed currently are the Rams and but the Bears and the Seahawks are actually both knocking right on the Rams do so it's going to be a tight one to see who gets that seventh speed good segue to uh you mentioned the Rams just in La specifically who's going to have a better season the Chargers or the Rams well what do you consider better because I think Jim Harbaugh is like such a draw I mean the man wears cleats to practice he pulls the sled like that guy's a spectacle so I think he's going to be the more spectacular coach but I think in terms of who wins more games it's the Rams and I think we all kind of have to be I mean here's my my Lions fandom but also my you know acknowledging what happened with Matthew Stafford and the Rams like this may be Matthew Stafford's last season and we got to kind of he might be to me and and I think I'm not the only one here but one of the more underrated quarterbacks of all times I mean this is a guy who was drafted to b1.1 and he was every bit of that and you know look like there I even created a metric for him because he was so good at the play after being pressured and that metric has actually been pretty predictive for other quarterbacks as well but nobody has done it as well as Matthew Stafford he has over a 101 passer rating on the down after he was pressured so most guys are like most top guys like playoff bound guys they're pass the ratings like high 80s maybe into the 990s but not consistently we've gone this whole conversation without talking about Aaron Rogers uh good job for us good job for us but we got to get Aaron Rogers question in there I mean realistically expectations for him coming off of the injury he had last year and there's been drama with the the Jets this offseason what's new I mean what what should we expect from Aaron coming off of this major injury at his age you know this feels this has shades of that season remember when we were all like Matt leur and Aaron Rogers hate each other blah blah blah and then what did he do he just goes out there and crushes MVP so to me that has shades of this where it's like oh you want to talk about Hassan reik ha I will make you all forget it I do think he's Gonna Come Out Swinging I'm I'm more excited in the fact that the o line is really significantly improved I think that is more of a forecast for their success because to me if they can get Breeze Hall going in the Run game all of the things that come off of that for Aaron roders for Garrett Wilson for anyone on that offense I think that it just all comes from the o line so as much as I'd like to say like Aaron Rogers is gonna use his you know he's gonna Inception his way into whatever I think it's more like no this old Line's actually significantly improved and they made some good they made some good moves in the off season and they can control the football more because they can run the football and that's kind of how you win games Cynthia before you go like everyone's excited for Thursday night the audience will be massive you know I mean everything going for the NFL obviously with the Chiefs effect and Taylor Swift and everything but then there's Friday like I'm almost more curious to see a game played in Brazil that we've seen the Chiefs we've seen the Ravens we know we're gonna see them each and every week what do you expect from like are you curious like I am I'm very curious to see what it looks like NFL Eagles Packers in sou Pao what do you expect that to be like yeah no that's a I think that's going to be a real spectacle by the way I love the fact that it was that it's a Friday night I think it's been like a billion years in the Rams were the last month on Friday night but you know it's it's so funny because I think it'll look kind of like exactly like we think wild crazy fun that's exactly what the NFL is looking for people are going to fall in love with it they picked really good teams to bring over there to do that or down there or whatever Direction you are relative to it but ultimately you know it's like these are Jordan Love's an exciting player Jaylen Herz and the Eagles super exciting they could be great in the Run they could pass well like you've got two Dynamic running backs there and Josh Jacobs and of course you you know you got that other guy saquan Barkley and his quads down there so I and I do think at least what I've experienced from International fans is that you know offense and the ability to see the run and see the pass and it not just like be a stop on every down that makes people pretty excited because it kind of feels like hope he's effective next question nine pitches every inning yeah yeah three pitches every inning yeah set a record are the Chiefs a good bet to win the Super Bowl at five to on odds I mean that's what it is at ESPN bet to start the year I'll say uh five to one I'll say no not a good bet not right now because I think as the season goes on that thing could go up to like 10 to one or 12 to one or you know what I mean like it could get lower yeah and then you make want to like cash in then m mhm CU they'll make the postseason and once they get there that's when the lines will start favoring the Chiefs more because Chiefs in the postseason like don't lose don't lose but I think you got to figure out the right time to do it like maybe if the Chiefs have lost like two or three in a row right and their odds go down maybe you catch in then but right now five to one I I would wait yeah I I tend to agree with that um Chiefs again obviously the betting favorite right now at 5 to1 if you're curious I'm looking where's San Francisco where was like the lowest odds for them last year I know last year they I think it was worse than 5 to one certainly you know what San Francisco is right now 8 to one six to one and apparently it's getting much less handle or action than Chiefs at 5 to one other notables eagles 11 to one Ravens 10 to one well everybody thinks the ners are going to including myself have a down year just because I mean 6 to1 there's not a lot of value there no mean six to one to win the Super Bowl something they haven't done in forever yeah with all due respect coming off of that heartbreak of a loss I need more than six to one I need more than six to one next question how many rushing yards will Marquez Cooper have on Saturday against the Beavers 147 y rushing yards big number with a touchdown I'm putting the over under at 99 and a half because I mean I think that's a good game against a quality opponent I mean obviously there Step Up in competition from Texas A&M Commerce to Oregon Beav State Oregon State Beavers it's a step up if he goes for 100 yards I think you're in a good position is my point 100 yards out of your starting tail back against a team like Oregon State means you're possessing the football a little bit you're moving the ball it's giving your quarterback a chance to be you know multi-dimensional run it and throw it so I think if he goes for 100 that's a darn good day against Oregon State yeah I think if he gets to my mark which would be like crazy I think they're winning the game yeah I agree I'm excited to see him again mean they're already in the series that's the thing like can they afford to lose the next two no every game now must win is is is uh you know a must win not a must-win but important like life or death like oh my God like it yeah lose it feels and everyone else behind you wins it's like the worst thing ever yeah like I'm watching the Mets already leading against the Red Sox and by Leading I mean they aren't leading but they've loaded the bases in the first inning with no one out you know how yesterday I said that uh I'm not scared of anybody you're scared now aren't you and the Padres in my mind are the team that people should be scared about still stand by that point right right um Mets are are making a hard push to be my team that I'm most scared of over LA because la has been as hot as any of these teams they have on the whole but I do think at some point Midway through September they could go into cruise control good because they open up six seven games in the division they win and then you're gonna have a buy yeah the Mets are playing for their lives every day and have dominated the season series against San Diego right five- two one five and one that's no no five and two you're right and four game here but that's pretty good so yeah I'm with you on the listen I have I'm keeping track of what's going on behind San Diego even though the pajers have played this well of course we are because these teams have all played well Arizona's great the Mets have played really well it land up and down but they're right there so I'm keeping my eye certainly on the Mets here and downs so uh we'll evaluate let the game tell us what's been fun is talking to other starting pitchers who get a chance to talk with him I mean he seems like he's been a great mentor and teacher to to a lot of these guys what's what's just his presence back in this yeah no it's important you know to have guys we talked about this you know a fair amount it's really important you know we share experiences and um the guys that have more of them share them and the guys that don't have as many take advantage of their own and then others and so um you know heed got a wealth of experience that he's he's very willing to share and wants to share and um you know it's more for people to take advantage of Jackson Mar working the year second time or the month I should say I'm getting ahead of myself but as you know Jackson he doesn't like to talk about himself and maybe you can share with us your thoughts on and getting the award a second time yeah I mean deserve clearly another um Stellar month for Jackson um played really well big part of helping us win games and uh you know I can't speak for Jackson I think we have similar sentiments like it's great um he's deserved it now let's uh let's move forward you clearly knew he was good coming in a spring training did you do you expect him to be this good this soon uh it's it's hard to really I I'm not a big and I'll put limits either way on guys you know I knew he's clearly had a a lot of ability I knew he had a um strong desire to win strong desire to compete he had a high baseball IQ um you know it's it's hard to say you know I'm an optimist by Nature so I you know have we we did start him in center field for a reason and um you know course he clearly rewarded that um you know to say he's done his well and it's surprising I can't say I'm surprised because I know the person in the talent but um it is pretty impressive he refuses to talk individual boards but how much the guys know team for I think all of our teammates and Clubhouse guys on this club want individual recognition for their teammates um you know I think we want all the guys to get Allstar games and rookie of the years and you know anything else they be up may be up for um but I also know that this group is uh more excited about what this team's looking to accomplish two guys you brought back now without reab since because they've been ready getting ready for Arizona what are the things that kind of go into understanding when a guy is ready to be activated I know you're not your focus is here but what are the things yeah know Ian I've been on the rehab side of it player developing SES you know getting back to to Major Le competition side of it um I think it's a combination of things you know look there's a lot of people that weigh in on what that program looks like you know medical clearly and our medical staff does an excellent job here um you know the strength conditioning component into it as well uh I know a big part of that especially with players like darish and toddy guys that um know their bodies have experience in this game you know we're going to we're going to listen to them as well we're going to part of them on what that looks like and at the end of the day we're going to trust him and so um you know again I like the idea of him being able to um get into controlled environment and and get up to his pitches and he's been a controlled environment I mean the guy's pitched a lot of years I think he knows what this environment looks like and I refer to him when he says he's ready and all the liip test of him being able to throw his pitches all the the things that we use from a sport Science standpoint that indicates that you know his shapes are looking similar to what they've looked like when he's healthy um all go into the equation and now it's matter him to go out there and compete for us could Kim come back that re I think you're ahead of yourself but um I wouldn't say I wouldn't roll it out you know he's not been away too terribly long um everybody's got their individual preference of what they do and we'll just evaluate Kimmy as we go fancy football's a Hot Topic this week I'm curious if you fit that into your busy schedule I do not all right I I I couldn't have you who's your football team if you have I'm from I'm from Carolina kind of a rough uh year think possible I'm an optimist I fam yes true because Tommy fam's a psycho along with jock Peterson in whatever fantasy football league that was right the these guys are there's some guys that are hardcore you think the guys for I don't know the white socks all they probably care about is their fantasy football drafts well yeah they're 50 games out of it right now I know yeah but that was Mike sh's like ah you so I'm the I'm the internal Optimist oh yeah yeah we know that mik we know by the way no it's hard for you to be realistic but it's okay it's okay I'll read into what he said about Darvish because he wouldn't answer on exact pitch count but I think they're willing to push it a little bit because they're like listen he knows his body he's been throwing Sim games he said he threw 66 pitches his last time out so I don't think they're going to be I mean they're gonna be careful because they're careful with everyone but I don't think it's going to be like the strictest limit of all time and I wouldn't be shocked if he got into the mid-60s or higher here tonight so that's just my guess knowing that he's only got four or five starts to make between now and October I don't think they're going to completely baby the process as they go long and darish is one of those guys that typically Works longer than shorter I know it's his first time back but again I'm not surprised if he works it's like a fifth inning tonight I I wouldn't be surprised at all if he went out there and was very efficient um if you look at you darish this season when he came back from his first I stint he was fantastic um now is a much longer time than his first IL stin with the team but when he's been out there John he's been actually really good for this oh he for the for the Padres you look at his start on where was it here I believe it was April 30th start that was it was well it was a good start he went five innings three hits no runs three strikeouts no walks and then he followed that up with another five inning performance no runs they followed it up with a seven inning performance with no runs and followed that up with the seven inning performance and no runs so my point is he could look very efficient right away because that's what he's done this year coming off of an iil stin all right so you Darvish return longer one yeah I mean again it's a lot of time and I I liked the line of questioning of like hey Darvish didn't rehab and tatis didn't rehab and is Hassan Kim going to rehab he also said something interesting about Kim he like you're getting ahead of yourself because that to me sounds feel worried about the Padre's potentially losing even though it was only a one- nothing lead like office space that's how I feel with the Padres right now in the playoff picture yes they're only a half up on Arizona yes they are three up on or three and a half up on uh Atlanta or the Mets and then they're three up on Atlanta Atlanta but I just feel like they're in control of how of of just like the whole of what they are doing I feel like they're in control of it I agree with that I do I do now if they lose like four in a row then we might go Defcon one but I me I think it might be less than that but they're not hopefully they just continue to do what they've been doing which is they do control their own destiny I mean if they play well down the stretch they're not going to get passed but that's contingent on them playing well down the stretch and the truth is they have played well really well in the second half and if they do it for another three weeks they're in the postseason that's what they need to do for me being the pessimistic fan that I am why can't I be like happy happy about one sports thing optimistic I know it's very weird it's very very weird but I'm just telling you how I feel and I feel pretty optimistic about this team I feel good I feel good the only thing that that keeps me up at night is the Mets own the tiebreaker so I'm like tossing and turning and I'm they're in a they're in a really good spot where truth I mean just you take care of business and you're fine you're not worrying about hey I we need this team to lose and this team to lose for us to the Braves also have the easiest remaining schedule or second easiest remaining schedule in baseball they play the Dodgers National League who plays the Dodgers Graves do Graves play the Dodgers they play the Mets see they can't all win all games and then they play a bunch of games against the Rockies and then a bunch of games against Miami and a bunch of games against the the Nationals in Cincinnati Toronto so you're saying basically the Braves are in saying they have a good shot yeah that's my only concern that somehow two months ago we said 82 wins someone's gonna make the postseason years to prevent the conference schedule from expanding they wanted more non-conference opportunities to build their resume for March Madness and selection Sunday right because you could do work in the nonconference and therefore if you didn't win the Mountain West Conference tournament you could still get an that large bid that's still of course a possibility but the margin has gotten Slimmer because the Mountain West is going from 18 conference games this year excuse me last year to 20 this year a true round robin so less opportunities for the Aztecs in the non-conference we've discussed it over the years Jim but I don't think it's a good thing for San Diego State that they're playing you know an additional game against Air Force in San Jose State let's say as opposed to an additional game non-conference against I don't know power type opponent or twoo even though they're playing in that nil tournament that's going to give them good opponents Yeah the more non-conference games you could schedule the better so in this sense you're right about that um but hey it's it's something I hope the league fixes and figures out because if not then it's like you're hurting your league guys I just don't I mean I've G I've gone on the Soap Box before and it's September 4th I don't need to do it again yeah probably not and you'll probably sneeze if I start anyway yeah but like why wouldn't you try to put all of your resources towards the top of the league to put them in a position to either a make the tournament or B if they do make the tournament be seated as highly as possible why uh what it looked like obviously without him and I'm sure this is still going to change I I don't think this is you know set in stone so to speak for the last three plus weeks of the regular season it's not yeah like we said there's I mean would you say there's three spots in this lineup that are concrete arise and tatis one and two Machado cleanup yeah that that to me is as pretty concrete as it gets I mean tatis if he struggles okay but you're not hitting him fourth you're not hitting him Fifth and you're not putting him lower than third right so then if you hit him third who's hitting second and with Lis arise they want to do the Lefty righty Lefty type of lineup and if this lineup is that you have Lefty righty Lefty with Pro foring and switch righty Lefty righty Lefty uh I don't know the bottom to the lineup to today but it's who's who's catching campy I think it's campy today and McCoy e batting ninth Mason McCoy yeah so I like the lineup um the thing is you have jerks and profar who has struggled a lot recently um you know his August was not good at all if you're looking at right here he he had you know 196 689 Ops for the month not the worst thing in the world but I mean you look at his previous months here you had 808 Ops in March you had a 937 Ops in April a 928 Ops in May 800 Ops in June 886 Ops in July and then you drop down to 689 Ops in August right is he running out of steam is he tired is it just a bad month all fair questions all fair questions and I think there will be a time Jim to that point because remember you threw out randomly on the wrap-up show hey what about this and you just randomly said among these seven somebody's got a bat seventh and what about profar and people lost their mind but the truth is if he were to have of September like August he is GNA be dropped down yeah because you're not gonna go into the postseason with profar batting third if for two months he hits 200 he's gonna have to pick up his play at the played in September to Warrant being in the top 30 your lineup in October and I the thinking around it probably is look Manny is playing like an MVP right now and proar is playing the complete opposite so give him some protection hit him in front of Manny okay Jake konorth in August was serviceable he was actually pretty decent I mean he hit 260 with a 757 Ops in August that's a much much much better than his July which was horrific where he hit 198 with a 587 Ops so from that standpoint you have Jake swinging a little hotter of a bat you have him behind Manny and hopefully the protection of of Manny for profar gets profar going a little bit here and that makes sense and then kind of the same adage here where Jackson Merill has been amazing this year and now he has a little bit of protection for Xander Bogarts right you you you go after Xander hopefully that will get Xander going a little bit because if they pitch around Xander or whatever to try to get like Jackson's waiting there and he's been one of the better better hitters in all of baseball um so I I so when you talk it out the lineup actually today makes a lot of sense yeah no I agree and I don't have a lot of concerns about how they formulate their lineup because I like their lineup I like the players within their lineup and I'm not going to put it on lineup Construction in the postseason that's not going to be my take all off season if they lose a three- game series to Diamondbacks and let's say they don't hit in two of those games I doubt I'm gonna say hey it's because tatis bed second I might say it's because tatis was 0 for 12 but I like to say it's because he batted second they have seven legitimate hitters in the quotequote top or top seven in their lineup they have seven legitimate hitters now you just got to hope that that plays out when it matters and I've seen this a little bit on social media like you're hitting Jackson Merill 7 sure well like we just talked about they shiy and that and Victor Rodriguez and the anal everybody knows that and profar struggling okay everybody knows he knows they know everybody knows so what is the point of moving Jackson Marill up to Third and then burying profar in the lineup no the the whole point is okay Jackson is performing where he's at in the lineup cool keep him there and let's try to see if we can get proar going again and by putting him ahead of Machado now hopefully that sets up for profar to start swinging a better bat because because they don't want to try to pitch around profar because you got Manny waiting in the wings and hopefully that gives proar some better pitches to hit and and so this maybe little fake outrage a little bit now I'm not saying it's it's a lot but maybe a little bit of like why isn't Jackson hit in third or second or fourth because they need to get guys going there's no point in burying dudes in the lineup if they're not performing now what would be interesting is like would they consider moving Merill up once you get to the postseason to me it doesn't really make sense like why would you change something that's worked over 162 in a short three or five game series dude I can guarantee you this team makes the World Series with Jackson merell hitting seventh he's GNA be hitting seventh in the World Series well true but I'm saying what if what about to start the postseason let's say profar doesn't hit in September let's say Bogarts well Bogart isn't a good example he actually has hit but let's say tatis doesn't look like tatis in September do you Shuffle up that deck a little bit or you just say you know what let's go with the girl we brought to the dance which is basically this lineup and we got to 91 wins and let's roll this thing back out there probably I would roll it out there yeah I'm not gonna both things are true Shuffle the deck shy is the ultimate players he got the he got the back of the players more than anybody no matter what and so he likes to do things a certain way he likes to have things set in stone it feels like going forward and and he trusts in the players more than anybody it would have to I feel like be some drastic thing where proar is like 0 for nine in the postseason with nine strikeouts That's pretty drastic or something for him to be moved I just think that shiy is going to throw his guys go with what got him there and that's that's who shy is and slander you it's just total [ __ ] this girl is incredible the the number of attention eyeballs she's bought to C and the pros and for these women to have this Petty jealousness you say to yourself damn what is going on here and the thing I love about her she never says a word but these ladies who I love and respect their game they couldn't have this thing up in a worse there been so much negativity and a lot of it is just Petty jealousness so putting on the players I I wouldn't put on the player of course all players are going to have some pettiness and jealousness Je jealousy and whatever it's to me it's like the former players of the WNBA it's analysts for the WNBA it's it's like uh Gino Ora who is one of if not the greatest College women's college basketball coach ever like it doesn't to me it's not the players because the players you go out there and you're not gonna be like friends with everybody and you're not going to like Caitlyn Clark because you're competitor it's the other Play It's the former players like the Cheryl swoops the Lisa Lesley's uh the Gina Orma the you know sub like they have this weird Vendetta against Caitlyn Clark that just doesn't make any sense when Caitlyn Clark is the one player that actually put your sport on the map where you couldn't I agree with that she's the player that has completely made this thing take off I completely agree but I would say this I think you get very similar commentary in men's sports example being Steph Curry changed the game for the worst yeah LeBron is never going to be Michael I'm making this up this the Bad Boys LeBron could never play in that era I'm just making it up other thing the this version of the NFL isn't what we saw in the 1990s and here's why there's always that critiquing and commentary on the modern game I do think because Caitlyn Clark is almost like a unicorn as in a one of one to put the sport in the place that it is right now it feels like maybe it is uh unfair is not the right word it maybe it's like there's been maybe too much negative attention on her but I feel like a lot of stars and a lot of sports get a lot of negative attention because they are stars and everyone wants to pull the best from a pedestal Barry Bonds different example but there's a zillion examples of this the best are pulled down in commentary and critiquing and they're the best so I I understand the point about the Steph Curry thing Steph Curry didn't make the NBA he helped the ratings course not his first year nobody was talking about Steph Curry and he has 100% changed the game of basketball he is I mean you could argue but people would tell you and maybe not as much anymore it he change it for the worst how many times have you heard that take oh yeah I've heard I've heard that take so again if that happened the women's game be like oh my gosh I can't believe that and then I'm just saying okay maybe I agree with his take but I would tell you extend it out to men's sports as well I think the one thing about the WNBA that's different than the NBA or other sports like you're talking about is the WNBA has never been at this level before the NBA like they had the Michael Jordan era they had the bird and Magic era like they've been to Heights before that are unmatched right NFL same thing baseball you know WNBA they're at a level right now where they've never been and so with that you should be like embracing it and and and trying to take as much as you can and capitalizing on this and it goes back to the the the Olympics with that whole situation now I think actually worked out the best for Caitlyn Clark because she needed some time off she was playing way too much basketball she needed a break so for her it's the best thing that could have happened but the pettiness that that that Olympic team had with not wanting Caitlyn Clark on the team was ridiculous I actually think the the outside noise has maybe not benefited Caitlyn Clark I think it's benefited the WNBA let me explain I think the WNBA is more wildly discussed on social media than major league baseball and a lot of it has to do with the personalities within the league there are no personalities within the league in the major leagues there's no oh my gosh can you believe what Freddy Freeman it doesn't even exist the commentary do NBA it's all you see there's tons of commentary there's tons of tit fortat in the NBA so so to speak NFL same thing it resonates nationally on social media and otherwise same thing right now at the WNBA that's incredible to say but the WNBA and what happens off the court is resonating and I think what's happening off the court is bringing viewership to the games and if none of it exists I don't know if you'd have the same level of it resonating right now now I I agree with that and then you have this like ying and yang with Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese where good thing it's like it feels like the former players of the WNBA or WNBA coach you know former coaches or college basketball coaches like they have to take a side I I don't know it's like just they're both really good Caitlyn's better Angel Reese is a really great re Bounder and they have both elevated the WNBA Caitlyn Clark more so than Angel ree but you kind of need that like ying and yang to both like to have that elevation happen it can't just be one player it has to be multiple and I think Angel ree kind of embracing maybe the bad guy role like has also been a a helping factor for the WNBA as well we're in a world where all that matters is like hard Sports takes it's Talking Heads so if if we're ask asking these Talking Heads that are dominated by males to do it on television and talk about the NFL and the NBA why wouldn't they do it about the WNBA you know as in the WNBA is benefiting the same way the NBA and the NFL is from the absurdity that we then talk that has these Cycles on social media and it's happening now in the WNBA it never previously did happen so I would say being critical of the fact that people have strong opinions on Caitlyn Clark that's the last thing you want you want people have strong opinions on Caitlyn Clark bringing people to television but their strong opinions though I feel like are wrong well they're they're wrong but they're wrong in these they're also based off of this not hate towards her but animosity maybe people hate LeBron James they hate they hate all you know I mean that's just part of it like like my take the other day on sh Otani like do I hate the Dodgers yes do I think sh Otani is a great player yes does does his 5050 season make me want to roll my eyes back of my head because everybody thinks it's the greatest thing that ever happened in baseball yes but that's also I'm a little biased here so maybe there's part of that here with WNBA that we're talking about like there's some biased takes going on here against Caitlyn Clark when Caitlyn Clark is statistically having the greatest rookie season in the history of the sport but nobody cares about that that's like saying LeBron James is a great player yet you still have a dude making 25 million a year on FS1 being critical of him for 10 straight years like there's no there's no reason to do it factually statistically there's no reason to do it but his employer asks him to do it I think Caitlyn Clark's fair game and I think ultimately it's good for Caitlyn Clark in the league I I I disagree with the some of the takes too but the wnba's never been discussed like this now that it is we're critical the people are being critical of citn Clark well what what is there to be critical about caylin Clark what is there to be critical of Patrick Mahomes or Lebron James or Steph Curry yet people have made a career out of it well there's one specific person who made a career out of Point all people do this and Colin has been critical of athletes and Dan Patrick's been critical of athletes and Dan lebatard has been critical of great athletes that's part of the business and as as her career goes on you're right yes if she doesn't win like an MVP that'll be the story she's never won an MVP she's never won a title yeah that that that's fair game I think that's different than saying like like Cheryl swoops complet leaving her out of a conversation about the Indiana Fever gin Ora completely just bashing to Vegas now Home Road is a factor in there now since the line was posted at minus three it's actually been elevated to about minus 6 is what I saw as recently as today but still the difference of one year is over two scores 17 and a half points at least between last year in Coralis when San Diego State was a huge Underdog 23 and a half points to what it is right now to probably Clos in the neighborhood of four five or six what is that telling us is that a reflection on San Diego State is it more of a reflection on Oregon State or is it a combination maybe of both I think it's more of a reflection on Oregon State um now I also think it's a it's a it's a good sign that for the asex first game of the year they were 34 and a half Point favorites yeah that was a big number that's a huge number for a team we have literally no knowledge of yet because we haven't seen them play until this past Saturday and they won by 31 was it 31 or 30 oh no they won by 454 correct 31 oh they didn't cover they suck whatever um yeah it's one of their largest margins in a long time right we 31 points is a good margin it's a pretty good margin I I think that speaks more on Oregon State than it does San Diego State but also yeah I don't know how to read into it also I'd like to see what the line would be if this game was in Coral Coralis yeah because if certainly not 23 and a half if this game's in Corvalis and it's a 14-point spread then that to me tells me more about San Diego State but but it wouldn't be more than it wouldn't be more than that in Corvalis right you went out a touchdown it's usually like homefields worth in college three and a and yeah and the NFL 3 you know what I mean so what is it I mean 10 I think it's more than that I maybe maybe you might be right but I don't even like down I'm making it up 24-21 with the ball with 11 minutes to play yeah I I mean I could probably you're signing up for that you put a drive together take a lead or win a game potentially at home yeah I'm I'm excited about Saturday because uh last Saturday was kind of like the introduction and this Saturday you're going to start to learn more about the team like you're going to start to have you know with the first date you see you see the girl right you see the guy and they're like oh that's my first introduction to the person and then you start talking to them and they could either be have a hor really bad personality or great personality this second game against Oregon state is going to tell us I think way more than what we saw last Saturday and it's going to give fans the direction of like okay where's this program going this season potentially maybe but I would also be careful not to put all the eggs I'm not say either way yeah no not that this season they're they're
