Seattle Power Outage Special #08182024

what is up and welcome to the power outage special uh I'm going me go ahead and play something for you you so okay so if you just if you could or could not hear that um we're going to go ahead and start with Guantanamo Baywatch my power is completely out though through the magic of internet I am still an battery power for as long as I have it I am still able to live stream that's we're going to do that now [Music] uh like I said this is going T bayw watch with blame yourself and I'll play area 69 um so yeah as so in my particular outage uh about 3,500 customers are um affected but overall and I will check the website uh at the PE around 26,000 people were affected we'll see what it is at right now um in 66 and then it was 67 I was like that was me and then it was up to 68 um so again C light is already aware of them you can go to city.gov and just view a map um say similar to this one but it's going to look exactly like this one see in fact they're already down to well there there now 82 active engagements have been reported and they're now down to 177,000 people affected which means they've restored power for about 8,000 people in the last hour or so um again power for me is estimated around uh 11 p.m. that's 4 hours from now no way this live stream's going to last that long especially if I I'm live on the internet that's going to run my battery down pretty quickly but I am here in it till in it to win it um I will stick with this live stream until it does um this is just going to be a News and Views a regular News and Views episode though U other than that that's all I really have to report um yeah at its peak on Sunday April April I know what month it is on Sunday August 18th 2024 approximately 26,000 people lost power in Seattle um by that happened around I want to say four or something it's now around seven and they've restored power to about seven or eight thousand people and they're anticipating having power at least restored to me so at least another 3,000 um by 11m usually those estimates are conservative like usually if they say by 11 it's going to be it'll be 10 maybe it'll be nine but it's not usually going to be after that so I'm pretty optimistic but if it comes down to it I've got that well oh well that's what I discovered okay so check your disaster preparedness because I had like I have several Power Banks and stuff and I thought I'm pretty thoughtful about keeping them charged and yet when I actually needed them um they weren't like yeah nothing actually worked the way I was hoping it would um but of course I do have my battery powered record fler we use this for the outdoor episode I thought thought about doing an outdoor episode um again that was Grano Baywatch um would blame yourself this is area 69 off of Desert Center oh nope we're still listen to blame myself my bad um and then yeah if I even if we need to I even have more batteries for the record player um I just feel like this is what a battery powered R player looks like oh [ __ ] that was exactly not what I want so yeah like I said this is going to be the same old disaster prone episode except without pet I even got my candles if I need it this is that this yeah this is my favorite the Apple fighter one this is the one I might burn even if I don't even if the power doesn't even if the power does come back on um and then what else is going on so I did get to go see um Las nubis I will be playing some new Lo new US L but this is a this this is a 5-year-old reissue and then this just came out June 23rd fores M and this is called um and then I may or may not actually you know [ __ ] it it's my show I do what I want I get to break the world when I want Lil Venom I don't normally play CDs these are handb burned CDs and look they're even like hand they're like hand decorated um and oh I won't be doing it in this episode because I do not have a battery powered oh I don't have a battery powered tv player handy now I have to think about that do I own a battery powered tv player um [Music] so yeah my power is out by the way because of um severe winds um that I'm pretty sure I I can't prove that but it was very windy um it rained last night in Seattle I mean you know that it's that it's raining in Seattle there was actually thunder and lightning that was a little bit exciting the lightning was beautiful the Thunder scared my dogs um um so yeah I did go to see Las newas with little Venom who is playing uh August 22nd at U Chui go see them there um I did not go see DOA and um fear uh I've seen both of them before though so I'm not enough to be weird but I've seen both of them before so I'll be okay if I don't see them again this time okay I'm G to do this to make the best use of my battery I should probably get on with the sh um I did I the most exciting thing is I organize my space and so I actually have a lot more um yeah no a lot more organized records and a lot more space and I'm really excited about that this is um vaguely featuring I'm might yeah no we've been well uh we've been playing New Mexico bands with New Mexico bands just because I I meant to grab some Albuquerque bands because I have lots of Santa Fe bands but I meant to grab some Albuquerque bands and then got me whole kick like oh wow I don't play a lot of this stuff a lot so been playing some more New Mexico band we' playing some Florida band I'll proba play some Le Than Jake later uh in honor of L newas Miami Florida's L newas um I guess technically you could still make the Tattoo Expo it is going on for about another hour you could also make the Pacific Northwest black pride party that's on a rooftop cop in the um a stadium District um their white party was last night featuring Jesse Smet I still have the feelings about that I think I rambled all about that these are calendar Corrections by the way um the most important one is that there will not be an NB party at uh Northwest Film Forum Film Forum Northwest that was last year it that was August 8 19th and 20th of last year as far as I know there's no NB party this year W there's also no bite of Broadview this year um I could be wrong about that I need to look that one up um but no so Jesse Smet very famously claimed to have been um um victimized it turned out it was a plot that he paid two brothers who were not white MAA guys that two guys that he knew um to beat him up the whole thing with the Noose around his neck so what was interesting was the police didn't show up till like eight hours later and he was still wearing it and the police were like you want to take that off and he was like well I thought you'd want to see it but yeah no that was probably their earliest tip off um here's the thing JY as far as I'm concerned and this is just me personally JY Smet set back um black rights gay rights victim's rights um I mean even leftist this MAA they're all liars they're all um this it it gives so many of the long actors the excuse to distrust disbelieve deny disavow racism isn't real all of it um you know the name my name is mud like you heard they saying My Name Is Mud there really was a mud Mudd um and I can't remember exactly what they were responsible for I'd have to watch Drunk History again but the point being um the reason people say that is because they did something and even like hundred years later I don't even remember who they are but I know they did something um small let's name is and should be associated with that not the whole family it's not Journey's fault um but Jesse for sure and yeah I I there are there are fewer people I would rather find out is working at Taco Bell than Jesse Smet um like I don't think I don't I think an entertainment career is a privilege not a right and I think he abused that privilege and I don't an artist from side quest tattoo featured at not to be confused with Daniel silver is from some tattoo show um but Danny with an i da and I Silva um was featured on K story who also reported 38% of July or August that's not unusual for Seattle for whatever reason uh and you can search this channel by the word hail and you see all the videos of me like I will literally like stop what I'm doing I'll be like oh sorry I have to go it's hailing outside grab my camera um I just I don't know why ever since I was a kid I really likeed Hil um wildfires continue Mount Jupiter on the Olympic Peninsula Olympic Peninsula um I mean people I work with I know like live in we call oi pen the oi pen region so I wildfires to me are like a yeah again even my power is out I feel very very fortunate that my my experience with weather is generally pretty temperate and year round even when I experience things like wild means my sky gets a little bit Smoky and my sunsets are kind of pretty but some people actually have that like it's their town and their neighbors are being evacuated and things like that and so that's just want to keep that in mind um the last time I did lose power was in the middle of winter though and uh that I because this house is my furnace was broken and his house is heated by space heaters um because this is a punk house we don't like my furnace doesn't work my fridge doesn't work my it's a punk house um but yeah that was the last time all four of my pets were in like the same place like voluntarily and getting a along um because they well I was GNA say they they well no they don't all get along but specifically Cara doesn't get along with anyone uh he tries though it's not for lack of effort uh my phone trying to tell me to turn on stamina mode um all right um meanwhile shelters opening in Bermuda as Ernesto reaches Winds of 100 miles an hour again my power's out for a few hours uh Seattle City Lights already on it and they have it estimated it's being returned by 11 pm so I'm just like oh well might as well just go on YouTube as I was planning um but there are people who are experiencing I mean like half of Puerto Rico was without power I'm assuming some of that has been withed by now but I mean I think and and you know experiencing that for days my power will be out long enough that if my fridge wasn't already broken as I just said food would be going bad but I don't really keep any food that goes down all I take like like ketchup because I it's it's going to go bad if my fridges doesn't work um my fre my freezer slightly works but that doesn't really work either um denz revolution in Bangladesh um this is a student this is a student uprighted a student Uprising that has taken over the streets as well as they've taken over government buildings this is a developing story um it is being reported that famine famine conditions exist in Sudan uh and again they it is famine is a specific legal designation and has not been declared yet but when they say famine conditions exist or famine um levels they've reached famine level we're talking about half a million people without food and millions and millions more possible in the coming days if immediate action isn't taken um we we the same thing has happened in Gaza several times they've hit famine level but a famine has not yet been declared in either place um us continues to offer quiet support um to the Ukraine after Ukraine uses us made weapons in to invade Russia and again I it sounds like 200,000 up to 2,00,000 uh Russian people have been displaced I feel for them those are just average citizens they're experiencing um massive levels of propaganda that I don't think that they're yeah I don't I don't think I feel for them but I don't feel for Putin Putin you know North Korea is calling it a terror attack I'm like this is out of focus by love battery off of daylow followed by [Music] foot meanwhile in other international news Serbia has this whole thing with a lithium mine they want to join the EU and people so Rio Tinto is the name of the company they're an international company they actually started a Civil War in Papa New Guinea 35 years ago because of their poor mining practices but they're like we've learned since then um in any event people are accusing Serbian government of pandering to the EU because Germany is a big manufacturer of electric vehicles they're saying they're only building these lithium mines um in Serbia because they want to please the EU so that they can join in fact they got some kind of like memor memorandum of understanding like you build those Minds we'll let you in um and people are like EU you can build like lithium Minds have a environmental impact Seria has already experienced lots of things they're like there's lithium in France you can you can mine that fit first um so we'll see where that all goes but it's just interesting that um Seria is trying to forge their own way and the people versus the people have their own feelings um in China this is according to weebo cons assumption has plummeted on what is considered Chinese Valentine's Day um prompting some to ask are young people unwilling to pay the quote unquote love tax I don't know why that's but yeah it's I mean it's I don't know try and blame Cameron Harris for that one like that's not bid nomics that's that like yeah um I also think young people are more all around the world are more interested in spending money on experiences than than things I think that I don't know uh what do you think that's about I the live stream I'm G have to end the live stream at some point because my battery is slowly dying um none of the precautions I had like I have all these like power I do have a actual gas tower generator if actually came down to it but that's in my garage I'm not really unboxing that but I have all these like power Banks and stuff and I keep them charged well one of them I realized it's just really old and so it's one of those things where it's at Four Bars and like four bars of battery power but then as soon as you plug something anyway it goes right down to one bar and I just process it's always going to do that from now on it's just it's time to to replace it and so yeah you're not going to lie to me again power um yeah no matter how much you charge it now how many days on end you charge it it won't hold a charge and it will just go back to down to one bar and it's not very helpful um so the US is claiming that ceasefire could Happ between uh Israel and Hamas as soon as next week sources are saying um Hamas has rejected the most recent deal again it is in the US's interest to keep I there's a reason they keep claiming we're close we're close because this is really it's having a tactical disadvantage specifically for the party in power um obviously as the Democratic National Convention um begins protests will be happening by the thousands it was reported that there was actually a zoom call on the day Harris um announced there was a zoom call where they were like are we gonna keep going forward with this I mean she does she has been she's said the word ceasefire when protesters interrupted her the first time she said I am speaking and I absolutely respect that um but the second time she said you're right I hear you I feel the the urgency that and and we all have and she said the word ceasefire and she said it a number of times um nonetheless they still see her as the person who upholds this Administration and therefore the target of their ey which I understand um again that was love battery without a focus and I think that was foot but I could be wrong I don't know if I played them both um this is going to be the spits off of is this just self-titled this the other thing as far as this is the the getting updates as far as this is the the power power out is special I can report it is so the light rail is on the the lights are on in the corner I mean well Light Rail is running I guess I wouldn't anticipate that to not oh how's that happened um yeah the lights on the corner are working it looks like the the building across the streets power is out like on the corner is out because the gyms lights are almost always on but then bang bang Kitchen restaurant on this side of the street lights are on um also they're building a whole ass they say po will be back estimated by 11 usually it's well earlier than that I was hoping just to be like and there you go my power is back on in the episode in the live stream but it doesn't look like that's going to happen down to 12% battery uh um yeah the Michelle Obama is speaking um I think there was a real missed opportunity to invite some of those never trumpers I would love to have seen Chris Christie seeking of the Democratic National Convention I actually would have loved to see Shan O'Brien from the teamers again he took a lot of flack for speaking at the Republicans but he rightfully pointed out a lot of teamsters Teamsters represent most notably truck drivers but a lot of Industries um and think construction and yeah um he said a lot of them are going to vote Republican I and then he went there and he spoke and he gave a speech that if you actually saw him speak it's not like he was pandering to them he was talking about the importance of unions to mostly crickets Dead Silence like I yeah I respect Shan O'Brien go speaking at the Republican National Convention but I suspect that's why he wasn't invited to the Democratic or just because they're well they have not endorsed unlike the uh other workers of America they have not endorsed Harris but they don't normally endorse Democrats anyway you could still let him speak and again Chris Christie why Chris Christie has not come out there are a number Republicans who specifically come out and said I am voting for Harris I would have invited some of them maybe they have um because I think really um who better know and especially the moderate swing state voters you need um how you the difference is Republicans who are like I'm voting for Harris and there are they are significant and if they're not I don't think again I don't think Chris Christie has gone as far as to Endor Harris they will definitely give a I hate Trump he's a [ __ ] Fe use my language oh this is an adult only show language alcohol usage I might smoke a joint it's legal where I live all that stuff um content warnings obviously we've already talked about war and violence um we may talk about um self harm if you ever burgers in Ohio which isn't even a real thing only in Ohio will you get a pork burger because no one makes burgers out of pork except in pig country but she's gonna flip those burgers in pork country to show that she's and she said she likes cheeseburger she's not Banning red meat um I don't judge Trump for eating red meat and I'm saying this as a vegan I'm judging him for eating well done steak with ketchup and I I'm not a snob I'm not but I worked in steakhouses as a vegan and I anything more than medium and I'm like why are you wasting your money like what are you you don't really like stay you're just pretending um you're just pretending um meanwhile Trump seems to be meanwhile Trump seems to be really uh taken by Cheerios which I feel you that is nostalgic I actually um not to grocery prices well Harris had her own price gouging it's AA know he yeah they had a whole bunch of packages laid out and he just kind of noticed them and he noticed the cheerers yeah I don't think until I had worked in early learning programs for as little as anyone can make and literally this is an important thing the four-year degree to be an early learning professional is the little it it is the little return on investment that you can make if you spend all if you go to college for four years and get a degree in early learning ECE um you will then enter the field the POS into the community the lowest paid and then 10 years from now you will still be the lowest paid compared to any other college degree um I love early learning it is my but there is significant issues with how people are paid how it's funded and um none of that has to do with with grocery prices um what the but I can remember the when I was like oh wow I haven't just seen a and yeah no they all have like heart healthy logos on them and now that was yeah um if Trump hasn't seen a box of Cheerios in a minute well that tells you a lot about his life that he doesn't prepare a lot of his own food which is probably not surprising um but no same I feel you I'm being nostagic for that so yeah hate to humanize Trump but I did it was it was it was actually broadcast on uh left this more leaning Network I'm like look at Trump being ridiculous and I'm like it's people reacting to food like I don't like we all eat food like are we really going to start tearing each other apart over the food we eat or don't well we do already we have me a vegan are we really gonna start politicizing food now yes no we have for decades I know since the 90s I have been the punchline of jokes on sitcoms and happy to be because that normalized it that every time there was a joke about veganism on a sit come in the early 2000s that was acknowledging we're here and actually much more disproportionately not everyone and you let me know not everyone has a vegan who shows up at Thanksgiving but if you watch sitcoms in the early 2000s you would think so um though I was that vegan until I started cooking my own which
