Alex Noren Puts the New Opus Wedges to the Test

today we have Alex noren who's one of my favorite guys to watch practice test equipment this is going to be a fun one guys got crazy good hands uh really sensitive to equipment so it's always fun to get feedback like this so let's get into the session with Alex we got shots from 7540 and out of a bunker and I might ask him to do something a little silly but we'll get to that let's get into the testing here we go it looks very very good so I'm going to introduce you to Opus yes so what I have in my hand here is a 60t and a 60c yeah so this is pretty close to what you have but I'm going to tell you a little bit quickly about the changes cosmetically from from where you're at now this has got a longer hosle which raises the center of gravity the groove pattern is a little bit different so the way that they cut the grooves there's more grooves on the face than your wedge but essentially it grabs it kind of holds on to the top of the ball a little bit longer to drive down so I always call it like it's almost like cheating center of gravity to get it down even further so you always like wedges out of a window like this right okay so let's hit a few it looks very very good so I I want a lot of spin in a wedge so okay you guys are very annoyed with me on tour I I asked for a new wedge a lot so let's hit about four or five from here so you got about a 75 y shot to the right one yeah we're going to that right flag 75 yep what is that that's too short that was 65 oo the ball was a little wet y it's not the club's fault let me see that but this is going to be actually kind of a good test cuz this is a little early in the morning so this is when spin this is when you actually you're trying to get a little bit more out of a wedge spin wise yeah okay so let's just I'm curious to see what you think here that was a better shot good yeah that's pretty good I mean I like it I mean like it I see this I think it's very round uh got more spin than before like you said yep uh and uh so that last one that you hit flush you spent it so 27 launch you guys all kind of live between 25 and 30 depending on how you deliver it yeah but 8,000 on wet grass yeah from this yardage is is pretty Dam good okay so that's pretty good there go short again all right hit one uh do me a favor hit one a little harder yeah yeah see what I'm liking here that's awesome what I'm liking here is the flight like those are all pretty flat right without even really trying that hard they're all kind of coming out of the same window 7500 out of wet grass at 28 launch so I in my opinion from from a shot this distance off a wet Turf 75 to 8,500 is pretty Elite spin if you live somewhere in that in that range so it's obviously doing that well so let's move on to the next station how much of an effect does wet grass have I mean is it substantial loss and spin or is it yeah I mean it it kind of varies a little bit so you just have to be you know that's why we take sometimes when it's a little trickier shot you take you know five or six small practice swings to kind of just see what where you get the feel from like you imagine you're hitting a golf club with that wetness uh yeah and then also shot shape like it's obviously like from here you got a little bit more room so you don't worry about it too much but especially these like super spinny short shots are going to get tougher they're going to get tougher okay when it's wet okay so let's hit a couple of these little uh this is about 40 yards y to that flag same one same one yep yeah well you got that shot dialed but it's like tiny bit like too little spin but it you can also see the divots a little bit too much from the inside to kind of create that spin right so you're almost it's almost like you're kind of hitting a little hook on that shot yeah yeah so if I try you see like that's a little bit more spin that's going to spin and I hit it more you the div is straighter 6100 from here okay so like I'm I'm looking at it like this like we had some some players in here yesterday off of dry Turf yeah and on this same shot they were spinning around around 7,000 so the spin loss because of the wet grass will say anywhere between 800 and 1,000 RPMs is what you lose yeah so if I was trying to put more spin that's a little bit more attack yeah that's pretty good I want you to kind of hit that that kind of low draw you one that kind of Skips up there that goes in the hole see what I'm so what I want to know for you as far as your fields are concerned do you feel like the this part of the wedge is it Diggy or like cuz that's where a wedge will sort of catch when players come from the inside and they're kind of releasing the hands a little bit do you feel any of that or it glide through pretty easily no it's good I mean I I see it in the divid if if it's like a sharp start to the divot right you know here if that's sharp I like you know I I think it be behave really well if it's like you can see it that it's different digging and that the heel takes takes over and stuff but here uh I I feel it good that's what I like about the roundness of it it's like it it feels like less interaction with the with the ground uh so let's hit that let's hit that look kind of that sawt one for the last one from here more more straight yeah yep yeah I mean that's a little not so much spin but do you feel like you're in full control of that golf ball though yeah it's it's a really nice wedge really nice let's go to the bunker so I'm going to have you hit three to that long flag yeah so I kind of want something High something mid-range and then something kind of chasy and then we're going to go to that short one okay so start high yep short like that okay every bunker is different so you got to like make sure you know the bunker sand like uh yesterday I played out of like quite soft dry stuff and I can feel like some of these shots two shots I hit here kind of go short and right right so like and I know it's not the club this time like so if I just put a little bit more lean on this shot I'll get it yeah I'll get it like to where I kind of want it so but it behaves really nice you know it behaves like I wanted to so let's go to this short flag here yeah okay let's leave that okay I want I want you to hit one more of the bunker for me and this is just for just for Optics more or less I just want to see if you had to play it with a little bit more of a square face to where to that far flag yeah just to see I want to see if if you're experiencing that that that grind digging at all with it Square I mean I I have a hard time like with a square face but it feels good I mean so you didn't feel that digging digging down I mean it digs a lot more than I'm used to because because I have a because I'm not usually playing that shot I would play that that that low but I would always have more open face and kind of like trying to get on top of it more yeah okay so but it's it doesn't dig more than any other club okay that's that's kind of what I'm getting okay I'm going to have you hit a couple from over here these are the last three we're going to hit so we've had this discussion with a bunch of my colleagues I think as far as hands are concerned you got arguably one of the best set of hands in golf it's very kind of you well it's just I'm just being honest with you yeah so this short flag we're shortsighted let's see what this thing does on like this Full Tilt flop shot yeah Ian it uh full full yeah just go but it's uh no it's it's a good wge okay um higher yep let's just do let's send send off the people one one more the hardest yep it's a good wedge it's a good W it's a good wedge that was dope uh I don't there's nothing more to I love watching this guy just do everything so Alex JW right in front of the bunker that was impressive I exactly what I wanted him to do in this video uh he never disappoints me uh but that's Opus hope you guys enjoyed it we
