Jim Harbaugh has spoken to Colin Kaepernick about coaching job | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC

earlier this week comments emerged from Colin Kaepernick to Sky Sports regarding number one his interest in playing for the United States in flag football in four years when he'll be 41 and that's not going to happen and also interest in returning to the NFL and winning championships which at age 37 after he's been out for seven years is also not going to happen that ship has sailed and the point I made if anyone was going to offer him a roster spot it would be Jim Harbaugh his former coach with the 49ers who has been his biggest not only supporter in the coaching world since the collusion against Kaepernick began s years ago yesterday harau said that he's talked to Kaepernick about joining the Chargers not as a player but as a member of the coaching staff which means Chris even though Harbaugh didn't say it he's not interested in him as a player and if he's not no one is so even though Kaepernick from time to time kind of pops up and says I still want to play I mean we've known it was over for a few years now it's clearly over and I don't know why he keeps saying he wants to play because no one is going at this point they have successfully run out the clock they ran out the clock as of three or four years ago but they've clearly run out the clock now the question is is he interested in taking up harb's offer to go become a member of the coaching staff and frankly I think if he was he'd already be there yeah yeah I mean maybe that's something that happens down the road I don't he's not doing himself any favors by continue I agree with you to continue to talk about he wants to play and do all that he's gotten to the point now where it's like people think you're delusional for continuing to say that you got to stop doing that right I want to play too I mean me I want to play I would love to can I get another chance you know so that's where we got to just move on from that conversation I think he's got all the leadership ability and communication ability to be a really good football coach and he knows how to throw the ball and he's got pretty damn good mechanics and you know played in some big time football games so I certainly think there's value he could add as a coach and a quarterback coach and all of that he's just got to be willing to take that career path as we know you know and be a little bit of a bottom feeder and work your way up and work long hours but do I think he could do it there's no doubt about it and of course you wouldn't nothing better than learning from your old head coach and Jim Harbaugh there was some chatter about him possibly going to Minnesota if Harbaugh had gotten the Vikings job yeah that was a name that Harbaugh had mentioned to the Vikings as a potential addition to the staff that's why I raised the question back in January when Harbaugh got the charger job will he offer Kaepernick a coaching job and it's so funny because Kaepernick is one of the buzzwords for this weird media ecosystem of outrage and then outrage in response to the outrage and it's never about the issues it's about finding something you can use to stir up whatever segment of society you're pandering to and and I got dragged in some circles for even raising the question well I raised the question because it was a reality when Harbaugh thought he was going to Minnesota and clearly now now it's something that's a possibility as Harbaugh acknowledged it's the first time he's been asked about it but it's surely been in play I don't think Kaepernick wants to do it or he already would have done it and you you know Chris you lived it for a little while you gotta you got to bust your ass and not get paid a whole lot of money to learn the ropes the right way and that's how you kind of prove that you really have the desire to do it hi it's Mike Florio thanks for watching PFT on YouTube hit subscribe for the latest news and Analysis from pro football talk
