[Music] oh from one great story to another fox 61 connecticut office of the arts and connecticut department of ed have partnered on the connecticut creative futures connecticut chock full of incredible artists and all kinds of talent across a variety of disciplines you know that and joining us this morning is the founder of musical intervention adam christopherson and adam thank you for being here first off i know your organization helps people write record perform original music of all kinds big picture how has this transformed lives on so many levels it's been a journey for my own life for sure just being exposed to so many amazingly talented artists regardless of their life circumstances or socially you know social economic status or anything like that and so just being able to provide a safe space for people to record their music and express themselves has really been an amazing journey for myself as well as so many people who wouldn't typically have that opportunity unless we were able to uh to provide it there adam there's so much that is great about the work that you're doing and doing my homework this morning learning that you have a history working with some of our friends and neighbors who have experienced and lived through homelessness speak directly to that and how you've really cast this wide net to serve people in all walks of life well thanks so much for bringing that up so about 60 years ago we were able to open up a public studio a place where anybody could come in uh it's a safe drug and alcohol free zone but everybody was welcome to come in uh for free to come in and jam together write together record create community together and really we were serving so many people pre-covered post covid now that we live in a different kind of era for now we've been able to continue to be productive by providing free recording sessions individual for people i know you have found all kinds of ways to reach different populations speak specifically to kids i mean the power of these opportunities working with young people what have you seen oh well like again i learned it from example from my own life some people were there early to provide me that opportunity to write and record original music and and it was just transformative and so i've been working at for example cedar hurst school for five years and i've met some of the most creatively talented and and amazingly gifted kids there that have struggled through typical school systems but they have this incredible opportunity at this school to explore themselves in so many unique ways that really we all could learn from i have watched art and music teachers play a transformative role in my own life yet we know the arts often the first programs to be cut when we talk about programming at schools where are we without these types of opportunities and the type of work that you're doing day in and day out well i think we create more wanderers and wanderers are the color of our life we provide opportunities for these wanderers to express themselves uniquely not everybody fits into a box and so we like musical intervention and so many other programs out there i think it's key importance to provide the necessary equipment to those wanderers so that they can color our lives and and lead by example and inspire us in so many so many ways celebrate our wanderers listen adam we are so appreciative of the work you're doing right here in our own communities please stay in touch and let us know how things continue to unfold thanks so much
