we we talked about the additions in the portal a lot of those guys showed up and made big big impacts on the field Jackson Dart in his third year was absolutely out of his mind and this looks like a football team that is poised to really do some [Music] damage big Walter Nolan making his presence felt nice plays behind the line of scrimmage tonight he's going to be one of those difference makers that you a big game against Georgia they're going to call on him there's juice on the men here tonight still looks happy about the win let's go down to Ashley Strow line who's standing by with Jackson D well Jackson your first half performance tonight included 418 passing yards five passing touchdowns a rushing touchdown what allowed you to perform that way tonight uh I think the biggest thing is I have great coaches and great teammates around me uh should have had another one missed a little shallow out but you know there's always something to improve on looking forward to next week and continuing to build with these guys there was a big emphasis this off season to upgrade the defense you helped him recruiting those guys didn't miss a dinner when you had visitors in town tonight that defense gets a shut out what can you say about their performance yeah they're awesome we got monsters all across the field um they love playing with each other and uh it's a lot of fun to watch them and uh I feel like we're able to get the ball back really quickly this uh this game and uh you know all credit goes to them putting up the the big donut on the field and looking ahead when you get back to practice what are you going to focus on working on for next week I think the biggest thing is just consistency throughout the game I feel like as a unit offens will be kind of died off in the second half and that should never happen regardless of who's in the game so I think it just consistency and continuing to build on our successes and and uh continue to grow our bond with as a team homecoming for their quarterback Devin dampier the sophomore he's from Tucson last week through for a career high 18 completions 172 yards and a touchdown against Montana State listen this kid in 10 games no turnover Drive yeah he he makes great decisions and he's a guy who was offered by Arizona but elected to go elsewhere Eli Sanders in the back field Danier he's got great athletic ability he scrambles gets to the outside chased out of bounds by Tay Brown he is a dual threat guy with a tremendous arm very talented he was the best quarterback in the state of Arizona in 2022 when he was a high school senior joined New Mexico last season and you know because he does two things before game he calls his mother and he listens to a bit of Drake Nothing wrong and I love both of those and he's sacked as Jacob Manu and firing in the leader of this Arizona defense and that's a three- yd loss yeah this is an offense that struggled last week against Montana State particularly trying to run the ball and Sanders is the transfer from Iowa State who stepped in at the running back spot and they need to get him some clean looks he's a dynamic Runner but they have not had a lot of that lately low BS converted just one of eight on third down last week against Montana State Javin Jacobs has checked in they go four wide Danier throwing how about that defensive play and we got a flag down though that was Maris Gro kerw in coverage going running stride just stride with Nick trillo this is one of the best secondaries in the Big 12 pass interference Defense number 20 15yd penalty and forc fact Dwayne Aina the defensive coordinator for Arizona calls him the best kept secret in all of college football well he he's not wrong I mean you're talking about a guy who is 6'2 200 lb can play the nickel spot can play safety can play corner and a beautiful play there keeping that left armm behind weong as he reach around excellent play Aaron Rodriguez will come in to punt things away his guys's been named to the ray guy watch list Jack lutro is back deep for the wild cats at his own 10 that takes a low BS bounce great coverage by New Mexico as they down that thing at the the one that's about a 54 yd punt [Applause] so Here Comes This Arizona offense and as you talked about at the top Rod Noah faid and tmat taroa McMillan and when you talk about what ffid has done this kid as a sophomore started as a backup last season ended by winning the Pack 12 offensive freshman of the Year multiple touchdown passes he's thrown in each of his last six games yeah he's special and there's the first one it's a slant and right away he goes to T-Mac a couple things we we talked about faid and his accuracy and most quarterbacks struggle going over the middle because it's dark and full of Terrors a McMillan there he is single coverage you have you put your corner in a tough spot if he doesn't get help that safety on the far side closest to the number 40 he's also in man coverage so there's no help the only possible safety is on the other side he's doubling the other side when you've got McMillan perhaps the best receiver in college football I think he's the best you have got to double him try one of those two guys for as long as they want until you say you know what we got a double but when you've got talented guys like that on the back end you're going to give them a shot to play man
