[Applause] hello I'm Jim Houston and I'm Craig Simpson we've got a great game coming up between the Ottawa Senators and the New York Rangers these guys will have to pay close attention to their defensive Zone coverage they love to hit and that's great but they can't get out of position trying to do it not against this team they're deadly when they get a little room in the offensive zone we're ready for the opening Faceoff so let's get down to Center Ice the faceof goes to otwa picked up by otar from behind the net they're into the attacking Zone heavy shot right on [Applause] Senators take possession grabed by New York saved by coroso Rangers grab the puck he keeps stopping the puck New York jumps on it he has his Puck he scores an early first period goal he got a lot of wood on that backhand that had the Speed and pinpoint accuracy of a wrist shot what a goal Ottawa is already down by one this is exactly what the coaching staff was afraid of you can't afford to allow early goals delayed penalty call coming up for Ottawa he's getting called for holding I can't see now that was worth a two-minute penalty you can see that that coach isn't too happy about the call New York is about to go to work on its first Power Play of the game let's see if they can cash in you want to establish a good power play Early even if you don't score it builds confidence and keeps net well especially when he's at the top of his crease you have to beat a butterfly goalie High there's just nothing else to shoot at the net comes loose and play is stopped they're getting ready for the faceof the faceoff goes to the Senators here's Jeff Sanderson who hasn't registered a shot on goal so far he gets called for high sticking I don't think anyone would argue that call well except maybe [Applause] him New York will now face the home team with four players with the numbers even it'll be a question of which style of play can [Applause] dominate the Senators grab the puck he turned the puck over [Applause] New York has it [Applause] now stel giru leaves the box and turns the play from a fouron four into a power play for his team that was huge to keep his team up by one scores late in the first they get the tying goal I don't think the goalie saw that puck at all he absolutely teed that one up and ripped it into the net Ottawa ties the game late in the first they really didn't want to end the period down by one so they pressed and they pressed and here we are Greg shoots the puck he misses and possession is taken by the r oh post he's getting called for tripping you can't do that without paying the consequences [Applause] New York will go on the power play once again they weren't able to capitalize on their first Power Play Let's see if they can do it here Coro got a pad on it Puck picked up by Sanderson under two minutes to go in this first [Applause] period grabbed by New York shoots the puck pushed aside by coroso shots are 6'4 for New York and the horn signals the end of the first period we head into the break with the score tied 1-1 [Music] [Music] autoa is tied at one as we get ready to start the second and Jim they have all the momentum heading into this period after scoring that late goal we're ready for the faceoff Rangers win yet another Faceoff from behind the [Applause] net shoots it quickly that's blocked by the defender shoots the puck New York is now 0 for two on the power play shot Kelly Ottawa in control now grabbed by [Applause] branstrom he CAU the puck [Applause] up from behind the net they're over the Blue Line in on the attack snaps the shot gustaffson gust son he gave the puck [Applause] away it's taken by gustaffson [Applause] velli shot from the slot he scores Midway through the second period they've taken the lead the release on that shot is so quick the goalie barely had time to react to the shot nice goal Ottawa needs a goal to tie the game the sooner they can get back on an even footing the better here's Jeff Sanderson who's still looking for his first shot on [Applause] goal here come the Rangers quickly out of Their Own Zone into the slot corello turned it away Ottawa Scoops it up backhander walked in front of the nip Ottawa got it SLS up out come the Rangers he poke checks him shot it scooped up by New [Applause] York Shabbat couldn't get it out Ottawa takes possession taken by Gustafson [Applause] jeru veli grabs the puck to the net gustaffson he's behind the net looking for someone to pass to stel [Applause] less than two minutes to go in this second period fired hard from the point oh Jim what a save to keep his team in the [Applause] lead the shots are 10-8 for Ottawa here they come again onto the attack the horn signals the end of the second [Applause] dropped takes the shot saved by K pasalo Shabbat it's jumped on by stutzle [Applause] shoot coralled by [Applause] stutzel jumped on by New York to jeru fired it the Rangers take possession stutsel delayed call Quick shot he misses New York Rangers take possession he scores to make it 3-1 when the goalie has to come across his crease like that all the shooter has to do is get the puck on goal quickly [Applause] the base off goes to the Rangers it's grabbed by burnhard [Applause] Pone Puck jumped on by Brak fires it right on burnhard branstrom for the wrist he St he passes it to Brak brunstrom Joseph Ria [Applause] Ottawa finds it they gain the blue line on the [Applause] attack to [Applause] Sanderson ties the shot [Applause] corello hangs on for the whistle corello wasn't getting beat that time he's definitely playing with some confidence the ref is signaling for the face [Applause] hop Shabbat he moves it to Center dumped in by stel delayed penalty coming up he gets called for tripping well I hope that was worth the 2 minutes because that's what he's getting New York gets another two-minute Power Play Let's see if they can generate a few more chances this time Faceoff one by Norris shoots the puck New York has it right in front they're out of Their Own Zone to center it's moved to the attacking Zone shoots the puck from the slot and he pokes the puck away less than two minutes to go here in the third he knocks the puck away with a poke check jeru oh what a defensive play to knock the puck off his stick New York hits it up front of the net shot we're down to the final minute of the third great poke check New York gets it New York continues to struggle on the power play they're now all for three out come the Rangers [Applause] good stick there as he poked the puck away shot it he has his pocket picked the ref indicates a delayed call onetime shot he's getting called for tripping that kind of play can get you a bad [Applause] reputation you can see the coach isn't crazy about that call at all so he's going to have a word with the official New York hasn't had any luck on the power play so far in this game but they'll get a fourth chance here well they just need a few bounces to go their way if they stick with it the goals will come another shot that ends it the Senators lost this game 3-1 the final score [Applause] tonight's second star
