zero one let's get started hello and welcome to Beyond top 10 tennis my name is Dr Ashley Morgan Burge and I'm your host welcome to I will say a combined special edition and weekly edition of Beyond top 10 tennis because oh my goodness has has it been a very exciting week we have our new gold medalist Olympic medalist our silver and bronzer respectively also across not just singles but doubles and mixed doubles was really exciting as well and we've also got Washington that's been wrapped up huge event um and the US Open is now literally Less Than 3 weeks away or roughly thereabouts it's really been a jam packed week and if you haven't already a catchup on as a two prime um special editions for Paris 2024 of course the action is still underway but the tennis side of things has wrapped up over the weekend but then also Washington has wrapped up as well and this week uh we're in Montreal on both sides of the tour and we've got a smaller event I believe it's in um Hamburg um that is underway so we're going to cover all of those events um in today's episode but really look at the anomalies that have unfolded really important and I did share this in our earlier episodes that the Olympics is an anomaly and what I mean by that first and foremost is that our data uh looks at Grand Slam metrics Champions as well as top 10 tennis plays and champions historically however when you look at the Olympics and I did dive into this um quite deeply in those uh previous episodes there is no pattern that really um showcases why all right before I get into that um if if thank you so much for joining us if you've been with us for some time now thank you so much you know what we're all about um if you are new I really would encourage you to track back to those earlier episodes uh really important this week um I received some wonderful feedback and I really want to address this in respect to if you are new or tuning in and sometimes the language might uh catch you off you might raise some eyebrows about I'm really not too sure um what's being discussed here really important to track back to those earlier episodes that set the foundation so the Baseline of a lot of um the jargon that is shared I don't really uh uh like to call it that because it's it's really uh specific to whether it's a barrier breaker uh cracking into the top 10 uh progression progressing towards a specific ranking range or regressing away from a specific ranking range and there are other um elements um in play there but uh there are a lot of um theories essentially that I've been behind and developed that is um dispersed throughout my body of work so that's 12 12 books to date 11 specifically um in this area and if you start at book one so the secrets to Optimal Performance success and go all the way to my latest release how to develop a top 10 tennis ranking the language does change it's essentially um I do phrase it as a complete learning structure and I don't typically um talk about this but when you're looking at um the scientific underpinnings there's a way of simplifying it and then gradually um really fine tuning in a little bit more complicated way purely because that's the language we have available to do it justice I really do make a very big effort uh to simplify the the complicated but as always um if you do have feedback don't be shy of sending that through and sharing and I I'm more than happy to address that uh try to accommodate it where possible but yeah so if you are new please don't be shy or standoffish in that respect um I really do try to build at each and every episode around what's been happening on tour and also those first 50 60 episodes that really set the foundations of where we're coming from but also I think that the interchange or the intersection between whether it's my latest release the text before that and and the others and how they obviously apply to to the now or whether it is learning uh what you need to do if you're a top 20 player what your game really is missing to crack into the top 10 and we're really looking at Key micro discrepancies there so small instances or inferences that uh your game is currently lacking in contrast or compared to a current top 10 player who's able to hold on to that ranking range for more than one two seasons two seasons is really important there but all of it essentially is discussed in each and every one of my texts or gradually and why they really build that Foundation all right that's enough you know each and every episode I do like chiming in with a little bit of I think um that cross-sectional reference back to those texts and how they really are interworked within um these EP episodes and essentially why when we're looking at um uh players results each and every week and the rankings each and every week it's really a live data Hall um and what I mean by that is with all of all and the majority of my text to dat typically I'm crunching the numbers before the book is released and I'm able to share with you the why why this is happening how we can explain that and Beyond top 10 teners took that pivot this season going well you know what I can do that with you real time and if you want to dive in deeper um obviously that's where the books do come in but sharing with you whether it's from the Olympics the anomalies there and the why behind that but then also players that are progressing um were they tracked to progress their current performances and the why behind that but more so how you can learn to do that too um but if you are regressing what's stopping you from progressing forming that or establishing that new Baseline to establish that new Peak Performance and go from there okay that that is a lot but I do like to keep it nice and short let's dive into the Olympics um gold silver bronze all of them completely unexpected potentially one of them was um on the women's side and then on the men's side side of course we've got two that really were I will say expected anticipated but maybe not the outcome um we we all maybe predicted really important though typically when you're looking at say the woman's side when it comes to the Olympics very rarely has uh the world number one player won Gold and consistantly appeared Serena for example won one gold which is in incredible in and of itself but when you're looking at historically her rankings over that um the period of her career potentially you could have anticipated um two three maybe more um doubles is another story federa he never unfortunately was able to get the gold he only has or he has a silver and and I apologize I shouldn't say only cuz it's still an incredible accomplishment up into this Olympic joic had bronze but if you look at their rankings the grand slams to their name of their accomplishments you may very well have thought or assumed jovic had multiple or gold and federa had at least that one or two gold to his name Nadal has a goal so he was very fortunate just like Serena but again you would have expected him maybe to have that two or three as well or for at least one Olympics to see her now D federa and jovic go gold silver bronze in any order but that actually has never happened um which is a little bit shocking from that perspective um you really would have thought that all three of those players when they were notching up their grand slams respectively potentially would have gone that 1 two and three didn't happen same on the woman's side um I believe there was only on one occasion where it was a Serena Shar POA for example but you didn't uh consistently see for example an azer ranker or a Kerber um back to back with Serena and Venus all back to back to back to back when you're looking at the top one two and three there's always typically an anomaly and more often than not the more favored player very uh also say rarely it probably happened I will say 10% of the time um with the favorite actually did get that gold um typically um when it does come to tennis those who are more favored uh do not come through on top um Andy Murray for example is the only uh tennis player historically in the open era to not just win one gold to win two singles gold medals but also uh to defend that and when you're weighing up Grand Slams you would put for example Mari for in um contrast to the likes of a jovic and Nadal feder obviously Grand SL order and OB Serena is there as well but on the men's side but Mari really Shone through at the Olympic level and that is something that is um huge um no player in the open era went back to back and arguably now I don't think we will ever see obviously NAD Darwin gold again unfortunately alone potentially jovic win another gold in four years time I think that would be very hard to do um with the obviously that next gen New Generation coming through with the likes of el CA and in the next couple of years there's obviously going to be many more that will come through so really important I think to share that just to give I think weight to why some of these players had huge breakthroughs at the Olympics really noteworthy okay let's look at the woman's side Zen huge gold medalist huge congratulations she is a top 10 player however since her uh finalist result at this year's Australian Open her performance has lagged she has not won a title All Season up until interestingly enough that two weeks ago where she did defend uh her title what's really interesting and I've shared this um in previous episodes only some that some players performances are cyclical and what I mean by that instead of having a consistent Peak low Peak low Peak low or peak time off peak time off and really planned into your schedule so periodization some players have a Peak Performance and then a very extended lull and then they'll Peak again let's say a really good example may very well be uh Raku when she made that US Open final and went on to win um and prior to that she made the round of 16 at Wimbledon had a really good I will say that TW Monon period and then fell back with injuries Etc we're starting to see a bit of a peak again um even though it's been a long time in between there's been a lot of we'll say Rehabilitation Etc uh Onre SCU another example we have a number of examples on the woman's side with peeking then dropping off but what's really interesting we don't typically have a top 10 player become a finalist in the same season and drop uh Kenan for example when she won the Australian Open she backed that up with a French Open finalist result we do have players who do show up um with a finalist or become a grand slam Champion but they still show up in the green slam That season whether it's around the 16 quarterfinals consistant we haven't really seen that from Zen this season up until I will say the last couple of weeks and because she started to Peck in the last couple of weeks this put her in contention and when you're looking at the field and rankings quarterfinals without a doubt May maybe semifinals but you've also got to remember the pressure that comes in um because look if we're looking at specifically the quarterfinals kostuk would have been favored to overcome veage for example and it was very very close crova reigning wimbl Champion was definitely favored rankings wise and current um results wise to overcome schmidova who had a phenomenal Olympics um Kerber of course was not favorite over Zing that said it was a huge third set that tiebreak same with obviously V that tire in the third SW Tech was favorite over Collins um however Collins was always going to be a little bit dangerous there because of I'll say her record she was really she really pushed s Tech at this year's australi just as an example it's happened on more than one occasion and that was a really tough match I think for SP Tech to come through fast forward we're looking at the rankings and the plays that did come through yes we know swch progress Zen just progress so close rather than it being maybe one side of Kerber has a huge really impressive I think um uh results she's historically had at the Olympics one of her her best standouts obviously um coupled with um her grand slam success performances um and Schmid over huge breakthrough now look veage a little bit of an anomaly when you're looking at against kastuk but kruk's really at a rankings height of peak she's new on tour in the last couple of seasons veage has been on tour for the past decade maybe a little bit more and her current ranking High she achieved that roughly I think for three to four seasons ago so it wasn't this ranking um is not new territory for ve she's more seasoned she just hasn't been able to pick at the right times um in the last couple of years because of a number of injuries she's been dealing with so when we Factor all of that in it is not surprising of course that swch is in uh the semifinals or vage is in the semi-finals of course Schmid over is the biggest anomaly there and she played the tournament of her life and it's really disappointing in a way that there are no ranking points otherwise Grant each middle over was roughly ranked around 67 this definitely would have pushed her let's say definitely inside the top 50 potentially top 40 but let's see how she performs obviously um for the rest of the season now look Zen is not so much an anomaly but it is surprising because of her performances over the last 6 months and again if you've been tuning into Beyond top 10 tennis you would have heard me look at the data look at the metrics going well no because of her results whether it's from the French Wimbledon no this top 10 status is not correlating with her results there are players um outside say the top 10 who are outperforming Zang at that point in time or for the last 6 months but that title win and seeing her play so when I watch a player I can tell you about their key mechanics um momentum center of gravity um their elastic energy the key technical inferences their biomechanics all these inter uh all these interconnected parts that uh look at a player's technique in different elements and all of these let's say dozen different um mechanics correlate with that top 10 ranking if a player is doing it enough the key angles of influence there's a lot there to learn about that obviously the what your game missing series a little bit more obviously uh seven keys and the eighth key there and that's obviously where the Eight Keys have been established really profound and why when we're looking at um mitigating injuries that's why technique is really really important profound direct correlation and why all these players when they're getting injured we know what I know it's because um they uh technique is not conducive with their performance there's a lot to do there with functional movement U patterns parameters Etc okay but when you were looking at or when I was looking at Zen play at the Olympics I think it's the best tennis she's ever played I don't think Zing played this well at the Australian Open to make the finals which is very very significant um first tournament um unfortunately no ranking points very fortunate for Zang she's been able to hold on to that top 10 ranking very very and what I mean by that is because um the opponent she will get in the earlier rounds courtesy of that ranking and and then she can back up those points so I'm very very interested to see how Zen's going to transfer obviously from clay onto the hardc surface now after the Olympics and if look last year she did get a quarterfinal breakthrough at the US Open if she can do that again um definitely favoring Zen with her Olympics res to make potentially the semifinals if not finals of the US Open and this has come out of the blue however when a player performs that well and they do have that ranking there is a correction which means even though the datus has supported that lull the last best part of the last six months and for Zen to uh regress outside the top 10 uh this Peak Performance is very evident and if Zen can hold on to this current I will say cycle um she will finish the year very very strongly and to have a gold medal to her name is incredibly profound okay silver medalist vage This was um very exciting very rewarding in all I think aspects for veage especially considering I think it was roughly a year ago or 18 months ago beckish thought about waving goodbye because of the um ailments she'd been suffering uh well I did touch on that in um those early episodes of our special edition but look veage it's not so much surprising considering how well veage played at Wimbledon and look for some it could be really impressive that wimbledon's grass um and obviously the Olympics was played on Clay what's really important to understand here is that it's not an excuse because again the water TR game Missing series I just have them out of view here but I will grab um the the latest one of that it is a couple of Seasons back but the water TR this is one one of the older covers however if you are looking at the video feed um even look Nisha Cory straight there with got um tisas right there um rage when he was peing right there SW Tech definitely will be in here um we've got even Vinci kakina current um kavida in here Burton um pis all these at their Peak and this is uh around 4 years ago back and because we've been waiting for the current cycle to finish before that next release will come out probably within I will say the the next 2 to 3 years because we have to wait for a specific cycle to finish but for this cycle there's actually three books in this series it's a lot of work um but then just as an example to learn more about it because it hasn't changed the players names have changed because of uh a lack of Maintenance but some plays in here it has from swex in here um body was in here retired obviously sin's in here but elra ironically I don't think he is because it was just when he started to pick Jo Rich of course is um I don't think fedra made this one or maybe it was his last one Nadal of course jovic of course Etc but to learn um why but then you have a lot of players that did peek at that time and why they're not peeking now or we're not hearing of them now because they weren't able to hold on to that Peck and where I'm going with this is veic has been able to sustain um that Wimbledon result to um over to Clay and those texts cross over from whether it's hard CAU grass cat clay and it's really important to share that there is absolutely no correlation with surface and the Eight Keys which essentially means that a player's game is controlled um not by surface and they obviously a how a player plays their game is a very different story and you can look at the likes of say nadala now more more recently s Tech how they play the game so their game plan on the surface is very different to obviously their technical mechanics and the Eight Keys that correlate with that top 10 ranking but there are only minute differences there's a reason why jovic has been so successful for example across all surfaces um and and there's obviously that interplay there a very another story but viit it's not that surprising because she played so well at Wimbledon almost made the finals and this was the next biggest event soon thereafter and she was able to adequately rest and deliver another Peak Performance and it's incredibly exciting if rankings obviously were in play here Vish would probably be pushed inside the top 15 just outside the top 20 and I also think a sweetex resoled it does essentially uh speak for itself um she had a very clean win I will say she played very well against Schmid over Schmid over should be so proud of herself but also um I think the pressure really got to eager and also if you look at even her attitude demeanor on court in that bronze medal match in in comparison to that semifinal uh match even quarter final match there was a lot of weight on her shoulders and understandably it's it's huge and I think what really worked in Zen's favor is that she wasn't number one in the world she doesn't have grains LS to her name that the pressure wasn't as immense as swch for example but it was still huge for Zing 21 years of age to be able to accomplish that and I think beckish held herself very very well well okay that that's it for I will say the gold medal and obviously silver bronze let's head on over to the men's this match was I think the best match played um all season if not all season uh potentially I have not seen jovic play this well probably in the last two three maybe four years it was one of the cleanest matches I think I've ever seen jovic play ELR as well and arguably the the quality of this match was similar to when you'd see say a jovic vers federa at Wimbledon or a jovic Nadal um at the French um they it was really really tight profound and the score line says it all look the the number of games that went to juice if not nearly all of them and then the tie breaks and jovic really was able to step it up and it's saying something else because alares did step it up in the tiebreak as well but jovic went that extra bit and you really would have thought on current results also obviously going back as recently as The Wimbledon final you would have thought ELR was going to Edge and I think what really made the difference is that in reality this was jovic's last chance to claim gold that that one I think element that he did not have in his game obviously Serena has had it um Nadal's had it with obviously the 20 or more Grands land Sil um federan missed out on it with that silver and Jo was about to miss out on it with the bronze to his name but really really profound um I really hope you all got a chance to watch it otherwise please really please do if you do get a chance because it was incredibly I think important noteworthy profound in all areas um deservingly so if yeah it was even though the Olympics does have the anomaly I would argue that this is also potentially an anomaly because it wasn't potentially expected you don't normally see the one and two seeds vying for obviously gold silver respectively and um it has happened it definitely has happened it just does not consistently happen and this was really tight and it really impressive obviously when we're looking at that bronze medal match um there are a number of players missing I think from that equation but look a Aliss had the absolute I think Tournament of of the Season let alone he knocked out a number of I will say seeds exceptional um playing and mati he really surprised I would say um zarev the defending gold medalist um in the quarters um of course jovic was too good um in the semis there and mazetti potentially was primed to upset jovic purely going on jovic winning at the French most recently in five um but mati he was not able to live up to those expectations jovic I guess he got his revenge from that perspective and look Felix was playing so well old tournament it was really surprising to see ELR win one and one against um Felix but it was incredibly it was really impressive to see El lift that level and because of that El was favored in that final but you can never ride off jovic and how he played was absolutely phenomenal but again when you're looking at those rankings mati was is an anomaly you would not have expected a mazetti to win a bronze um potentially you would have put say Tass up there zarev definitely up there or rud definitely up there even Paul all of those plays featuring in the quarters but Felix and mati did get um through and both of those players were the lowest seeds um in um the quarters all still um in action really exciting but I'm sure I hope you can tell but I've been all in on the Olympics it's incredibly exciting because a tennis player only only gets that one potentially two chances throughout their career to win a medal if they're lucky maybe three if they're absolutely phenomenal maybe for like jovic but normally or historically or Kerber has been I think around for at least three maybe four I would say three to be fair but you could say a player enters their first Olympics like swch did at 19 years of age and then there second at 23 like she's done and she has medal maybe maybe at 274 years time maybe swch will still be ranked inside the top 10 you don't know and then she could have a chance there but you have to look at the likes of Serena uh Nadal feder and jovic where they were able to establish that level of longevity over let's say the initial 10 years to cover to maybe three then um Olympics and you only have that chance there to maybe three times and typically that first Olympics you're going to be a little bit nervous like swed Tech was in Tokyo and then maybe meddle if you're lucky like Nadal did but then wasn't able to meddle um thereafter um similar happened to obviously feder we've touched on jovic has missed out and came forth on a number of occasions bronze and finally got that gold but it's very different I think to a grand slam you've got a chance of winning a grand slam on four occasions per season you only have a chance to medal at an Olympics once every four years it is an absolutely huge beat for any tennis player and I'm very baffled why some tennis players with withdrew and decided to play Washington instead and didn't give themselves a chance but I think those every each tennis play has got different values country specific but we won't get into that okay I really want to have a look at before we wrap up the Olympics the doubles just noteworthy performances gold medal went to arani and Pini Pini obviously was favorite as well in um the singles you could definitely see pressure got to her as well if you were looking again at her demean demeanor my apologies similar to um s Tech you could see the pressure but this was a really good match what's really noteworthy here and great to see is Andria and schneer are single Specialists and so is Pini um Irani has been a top 10 player I believe she's made the finals of a grand slam previously I think it was the French um number of years ago now probably roughly 10 years ago but Irani we know she's still ranked inside the top 100 but it's really doing well doubles wise she's paired up with palini had good results but but it's really I think exciting to see three single Specialists obviously Pini is the more U experience a singles player had the success being the finalist at um the French Wimbledon Andrea having that breakthrough semifinal Schneider's been tracking she's cracked into the top 30 this season huge and for them to make the finals of the Olympics it's incredible really exciting and what's really noteworthy I think as well is that we've got noova and mova um in the semifinals that was really really impressive and I think to have the number of singles players it's really exciting of course other semifinals was um Busa and sorz TMO Busa Moro and S best I will say doubles in this respect or they're not let's say inside the top 30 but look it is really good to see I think that variety there and the singles players delivering cuz I think also um having more single specialist play doubles is going to help a grow a doubles once again I feel like there's been a little bit of a lull but it looks like they hopefully it will be a healthy cycle there and very similar on the men's side at the Olympics so if we're looking at the men's huge for obviously AAL Alan tennis notching up that gold ebden and Pierce they are double Specialists they are and when you're looking at obviously the silver medalists there um C and RAM they are also double Specialists very noteworthy that they were double specialist on this occasion however Fritz and Paul teamed up together and we know their rankings almost on the cast with the top 10 Fritz has been in the top 10 they're both um roughly inside I'll say the top 13 at the moment paired up to get the bronze um really I think impressive and look maak and pavc um did play off in that bronze match but really important here is maac's been tracking this season and I think um he has been making inroads which is I think really exciting um from that perspective um but other than that I think really really impressive as far as I think the doubles are concerned it was however um the Spanish pair that did get that win when we're looking ATA and sorz Tomo in contrast to noova and Muka um I do believe that is correct I am trying to look at the specifics here but really I think when we're looking at um the levels of anomalies from the Olympic level um we do see them more often than not and that's really important I think to run home okay let's have a look um at the mix doubles because the mix doubles was also very similar um to what is being shared and it we did have yes double specialists in one on one I think side of the coin but also not so much just pairings that did pair up and it worked really well gold medal Ma look ma and COA so Ma's got two medals down to his name but in CIA coova um but Zang and Wang um both Chinese players um phenomenal result to make that silver to make well the gold medal match as well really really impressive and I think for all the players that really I think um were involved it's incredibly exciting to walk away um with the medal um really really impressive I don't think I can um overstate that enough but it's just I'm really excited for all of the players that were able to not just metal but make really good uh I think um inroads Paris 2024 in incredibly exciting okay that wraps up uh the the Olympics results so let's head on over to um uh Washington we are going to dive into obviously we know Washington has wrapped up and then we'll look at what's um underway this week before we track back to the rankings so we can look at those inos okay looking at Washington um it has wrapped up but Sabal Lanka was the number one seat remember sablan did not play Wimbledon had that um issue with her shoulder looks like she's good she's back in action the rehab has been paying off all right so we did get to touch on uh last week the earlier round so really the round of 32 so we are up to the round of 16 sablan did get that byy so round of 16 sabalan is in action against ra and M um 75 4664 great to see sabalan back it's not surprising that match went to three sets granted Sabal Lanka has been off for some time all right a a ranker against Wang a aank is the six seed 6167 that was 5763 good win for as a ranker there um Montgomery jabur there's a walk over there not too sure what happened with jabur there but I know she has been in action this week um so it was obviously only something um small I will say Okay Bova towns and Bova very good win over town end five and six and that was 108 that was very good performance from Townsen even though she didn't progress raru stge great to see Radu tracking she has been favored to make inro the later part of this season 76 8662 B DOA and Sam sonova um Sams over retired second set B DOA did get that win 62 in the first noteworthy and it was underway last week when we were coming live B DOA and Kennan in the first round 6176 really good win again for BOS the first round and then samova second round I believe it was samova as well who upset I want to say it was swe Tech a few weeks ago so very good win for bza there pav Jen over Anis Sova around a 16 an Sova look we've been waiting for her to come back until um find that form again she got that win over Stevens in the first round um pava Chena hasn't been tracking as much as she was maybe the first part of the season but look three sets there for Anna Sova 61 6747 64 then we had dohy and kazakina and kazakina second seed first match got a buy first round but dohy well done 26756 love bit disappointing there from um kazakina um to fall early there but really good performance from um dohy okay um let's progress now I'm I have a look at the how the quarterfinals panned out as Sabal Lanka as a ranker I really wish I got to watch this but I was definitely way too focused on the Olympics um sabalan got a very good win over as a ranker that's tough but well done 4 and four four to sabinka to keep Pace um that's a tight one really good okay Montgomery and busov bsov with that win there in the quarters three and one ranu and bza huge I think match for these two um purely because roughly six months ago the beginning of the year both these players were ranked outside the top 100 ranu was the one with the I will say weaker ranking and Bosa was um ranked a little bit higher um um both of these players are now ranked inside the top 100 um Bosa after this event is now finally cracked the top 50 um Ru now she has cracked I believe the top 70 but Bosa 46 7564 that's Sensational for both of these players um really I think priming themselves for the weeks ahead um I will not be surprised if ricy makes around a 16 if not the quarters of the US Open um really I I think rooting for her um the DOA I'm not going to be surprised if she makes a round of 16 if big if she's able to maintain this level of play um could be too soon to tell um from if she's able to maintain enough matches at this level of play or she's going to drop Raku though there's a very good maybe there cuz very similar to what I shared about Zen and her metrics um when she was in action playing ratanu has very similar uh metrics and she just needs to be able to maintain them which she has been lacking but we did we've seen I think um some really good um insights potentially of Ran's uh ricu being able to maintain that um so if she can definitely around a extent or further could very well await all right end of the quarters is anisimova and dohy dohy remember she just took out kazakina a very good went over kazakina in uh sorry very good went over Anderson m in the quarters H 76 that was 7561 all right semifinal saena Bova progressed through Bova is top 50 however noteworthy that is not a surprise a little bit of yes an anomaly but we do get those breakthroughs but bov is top 50 nonetheless and so we did get Bova in the semis over um sabalenka 643 66 stre yes it is surprising for sabalenka not to progress very good though it is a 500 event for sabalan to still show up and make the 500 but nonetheless it's a huge result for Bova to make the semi-finals there b DOA doll high Bosa with the win over doll hide 3 and three is absolutely huge cuz potentially you do know the results here but that's a really good performance um almost just almost mosa could have been playing sabalenka cuz theyve actually played a number of times already this season but look Bosa over Bova 6146 64 B Do's first title I think in at least uh 24 months at least I think since she obviously was ranked inside the top 10 before regressing um with those number of injuries that came her way um so that is absolutely huge great to see Bosa with that title back in Action definitely I think DOA maintains this level of play she may very well crack inside the top 30 in the weeks to come now that she's obviously cracked the top 40 maybe I I won't say it just yet but there could be a top 20 by the end of the season depending on how she performs at the US Open but look Top 40 is a phenomenal result nonetheless okay that does wrap up um the action in Washington just want to take a sneak peek with um the event underway in Hamburg it's a 125 and we don't normally I think give too much attention to the smaller ones we focus on the higher rankings but we only have I think one event underway this week nonetheless but we do have look sheriff is the number one seed here in um Hamburg and Sheriff's ranked inside the top 80 I say and it's always I think important to look at the players who are tracking so it's not that surprising or an anomaly when we see an upset because really um schne has played a number of I'll say 125 this season and she started winning them before um obviously she's tracked inside the top 30 but it was those results in on those 125 events that put it on the radar caught my attention started paying uh more attention by focusing on her results and why she was then trapped to make those key progressions and tick she has already okay um Sheriff's number one seed I've just said Goodwin first round 2 and one over bone um Stone mes um fell to SOA in three um noi um a win over stovich um danovich over schmack HOV is the sixc noteworthy because danovich has started to track this season so that's two players noteworthy Bond over pekovich look petkovich I'm pretty sure pekovich is retired I'm going to say she just came out for a little bit of fun but one and three went to bond there um but over Co straight set SLE over macova straight set um Lies Over mindor straight set um fet over jakovich straight set Cova over Sila straight set boskovich over barell in three Ross over lmen straight set pagosi the fifth seed Chief fell to Russ and rovic over Brockman straight set um and beu over SEMA straight Seth and Kash is the second seed three set over pap CH apologies for the mispronunciation I am certain there's a number that I have mispronounced um but I I really do apologize I do do my best all right we've got a couple of our round of 16s that have been completed here most of them have Sheriff got through one and three over SOA um danich U it's through and through over Noah aroui really impressive that final set was um a tie break 86 um so two play sheriff and dich have been tracking all right bonda fourth seed she went through in straights over bandle um sidal fell to Li the seventh seed in three F fell to C over in straight says three and three um Bru over boskovich one and one um Bru over rolovich 5 and five anle par the second seat over beu that was 4 and 31 then beu did retire quarterfinals going to be really interesting there um the match I think I'm very curious about is Sheriff the number one seat danovich potentially I'm looking at an upset with danovich current level of play and how she has been tracking if not three however if Sheriff does get the win that obviously directly correlates with that number one seed there very interesting so we will wrap that up the fin list next week okay um Montreal is underway um as we speak now or Toronto my apologies Montreal's ATP to Toronto is WTA to it so uh in Toronto we it is a bigger event it's a 500 I do believe uh if not an a, actually I'm going to check that I do believe um it is in a thousand that is currently um underway but GF is none the nonetheless the number one seed um really important there so yes it is a thousand event um currently underway and it really is I think that time of year where we're getting more and more similar to remember recall Miami um Indian Wells those the double there all right so gol number one said by first round we've only really got round of 64 first rounds to look at but also the lineup for round of 32 all right um Wayne got a win over kenon first round so two first round here for Kennan obviously Washington and Toronto W 7576 and that was 73 uh Popova um against fretch fretch very good win there 46636 love a Scher 14th seed with a win over Dart in three 6336 76 72 Jabor back in action against Asaka Asaka with the win three and one and Asaka is now I'll say more comfortably inside the top 100 we'll revisit that shortly very good for aaka I would love to see aaka track um in Toronto especially with the US just around the corner um I'm I'm going to gauge whether or not Asaka progresses in Toronto the following weeks and if maybe aaka makes round a 16 or further at the US Open all right Merchants over volet 3 and one iiim over tomova 6 and2 Samson overa did get a buy first round same with paga who's the third seed here and plisa over poosa 4 and six that was 1210 in that tie break uh kru over cetto 3 and two uh Fernandez and hiina are in action as we're coming live it's 63 5741 at this stage to Fernandez looks like Fernandez will close that out all right as a ranker Goodwin over pav Jen two and two Stevens fell early to Min 2 and two and Sterns Goodwin over blink over 4 and three is the seventh seed by Navaro e seed by uh Lynette over Marino 3 and four Rogers fell to Spina very good wi Spina nice and clean there 0 and two and Co stroke over Maria 0 and two as well and very interesting those two will play off um in the round of 32 all right yes Str towns and towns and very good win for her here 63 31a did retire there um Town's actually been playing some really good tennis singles lately her double has been off the charts um but well uh way to go singles wise at the moment all right um Erica Anda falling to s in three set 67 6164 Bosa over torsson another win for Bosa well done one and four um AA Peno fourth seed by first round kazakina has a buy as well first round fifth SE and a overa over dohy um well done to andison MOA another match there good to see one and four okay Andre sco over uh well she did play Sano Sano had a bit of I'll say an upset there irrespective of rankings because Andreu she did actually play some good tennis um French and little she she was there and I believe she's already got um a finess result um to her name in the last probably two three two months is since she's been back but well done to sinka love 6 6364 Ken SC good win over Shero 2 and three Hadad May over Bova in three uh Bolter over per in three and Yuan over Busa three and three and Sabal link is the second seed here and she's got a buy she'll play Yan next all right so we'll just look at before we close off the results and head on over to the rankings um so saan will play Yan round 32 Bolter had Dad Maya um Kalen ska Sano Anis overa kazakina they'll be interesting kazakina fell early in Washington let's see if her ranking um or her performance correlates with her ranking and she progresses but Anis Sova is going to be dangerous all right Bosa will play Austin Peno next Austin Peno fell early at the Olympics uh it'll be very interesting to see how Austin Peno plays against Bosa also um Bosa if she's able to continue that result all those results from Washington um but Austin Peno is obviously going to be favored here um but it'll be very interesting to see how her hard court season tracks whether it's similar to say the Australian Open or um if there's a bit of a l Town Zone will play umk um um earlier I just said kuk and spina will great to will be really good to see I think Spina track leading into the US Open kostuk is a dark horse now though she is ranked ahead of Selina um I think this is the first time um where Selina is not Ukraine's number one tennis player um since Kruk obviously broke into the top 20 and spina's ranking regressed after Wimbledon purely because even though Spina played well at Wimbledon she didn't um make uh the semi-finals again from last season so she did drop those points even though she's ranked outside the top 30 she really should be inside the 20 all right naar will play Lynette Sterns will play Keys as a rank will play Min and ker will play the winner of Fernandez Abino but Fernandez is 51 now looks like it will be Fernandez pagola against plisa that'll be interesting there and Sams over oima merens over will play Asaka Schneider fretch G and Wayne all right that's going to be I think quite interesting to um look at next week it definitely looks like Fernandez is about to close out her match she is up well it's 30 all but she is up 51 all right let's head on over to the rankings there's only been I will say a little bit of um traction this week at purely based on the Olympics has been underway with no points and we're really only looking at um points gained or lost from Washington as far as the top 10's concerned there's only been a little bit of a change there Collins has gone up to eight and Sakari is Back Nine and that has absolutely nothing to do with performances purely because both um Collins and Sakari were playing the Olympics I'm not too sure why there's been a change there it is is very odd when this does happen but it's definitely got to do probably with some points Shuffling from um obviously Washington that's obviously was underway all right top 20 we don't have really many changes azaran has moved up to 19 kruk's back to 20 um but then again look AAR ranker has been in action cuk did play the Olympics um most um of the not everything else has maintained we are going from 1 to 100 normally we would go um the other way around but look everything's pinka is up four places 229 so she's back inside the top 30 not surprising um a little bit of points I will say from obviously Washington there nosova is back five but then again she was playing the Olympics Spina is back 3 to 34 did play the Olympics definitely Spina um Bolter andova they are 34 33 32 respectively they should all be inside the top 30 Spina definitely inside the top 20 um Bosa has had the biggest jump this week 22 uh points uh because of her performance in Washington so that progression is is huge for 40 in the world her highest ranking I think in at least 18 months maybe two seasons very very significant all right doll hides up 346 we've got a couple of I think um regressions or about a dozen there but only like one two points um Lulu Sun the Kiwi there who made huge inroads at Wimbledon she's back one just at 54 kenan's back one at 55 um Ton's at one 1 to 62 oima up 1 to 63 um Christian back 9- 66 Ran's the huge jump almost as much as bza but 20 uh Point progression there 69 in the world this is Rican I think's highest ranking if not in at least 12 months but very very impressive just behind ranu though is wasaki even though we haven't seen her in action she's been holding to those points at 70 now all right towns ends up 7 to 71 yfan Wang is um up 1 to 72 those of you who are not familiar with youran Wang she's the player that almost knocked out Zang at the Australian Open um and I did write up an article on that at that time really impressive that she does have it in her it's just that level of Maintenance we're looking for right Schmid over um despite um I think her performance at the Olympics unfortunately she's lost eight points so she's had a little bit of a regression there and she's now at 75 in the world um without a doubt if the Olympics did have points she definitely probably would be inside the top 50 um other I think noteworthy uh progressions and or regressions we're looking at um look Irani is at 190 typically she's been uh outside the top 100 just inside the top 100 good bump for her there um others is ramova has cracked into uh the top 100 a 12o progression to 93 in the world bond also has cracked inside the top 194 in the world Asaka is now inside firmly last week she was 100 she's 95 in the world now great for Osaka there if she can make some traction this week in Toronto we could see a masaka bump into the 80s if not 7 which be will be more favorable leading up to the US Alicia Parks say cracked into the top 100 as well at 99 in the world n is back one but that is 100 so we will leave it there oh my goodness okay that's a lot for the W tour now over to the men's today's episode's going to be a little bit longer more than anticipated but we did have the Olympics that we have touched on and the past week on the wgh now we're heading over here for the ATP Tour all right so we do have also Washington um for the ATP Tour and we did um touch on the first round results with rublev being the number one seed there and rublev has fallen around a 32 um sorry my apologies not yet Ru with a win round of 32 that's what we want to see but I am getting ahead of myself from what will soon be shared all right Rubble over that Ash 46 6364 um rid over Shang 23 obviously Shang did retire there carella spay fell to kich but two tight TI BRS um Tio Goodwin over Galan in three sets quarter is the fourth seed straight sets win over Garin konakis over vage vage is ranked ahead of konakis so good win for um tanasi there mesh pericard over rori straight sets Thompson over alela straight sets um DAV fak three sets over Krueger qualifier Goins Fallen to aaly in straight sets mitchson straight sets over beluchi car kakenov for has fallen to a hong in straight sets shapovalov um two and one over manarino kovich over wolf in straight sets Nakashima over okon in straight sets and Shelton three sets over Albert all right I really want to get through that to get to the round of 16 um all right round of 16 results um rublev over rinder neck 7664 that was 74 in that TI break tier over kovich three set 76 73 4663 quarter over konaka 67 um that was uh 71 75 32 looks like cochan Aras must have withdrawn there it was very that's disheartening but well done to quarter mesh perard has fallen to Thompson 7564 well done to Thompson Thompson however is SE seven mes parad nine um davidovich faka has fallen to Cabo but look at this six 7676 now was 70 and 8 uh sorry 97 at meton over Hong three and three shapovalov good win over kovich um in 46 6462 and nashim has falling to Shelton 76 76 7574 very good win for Shelton there all right our quarterfinal action this is where I was getting ahead of myself Tio the fifth seed with a win over rublev um very very good this wind nonetheless has pushed TFO back inside the top 30 very good news leading up to the US Open all right quarter um with a win over Thompson 4 and2 cabali over mitchellson uh 753676 and shapovalov has fallen to Shelton 7675 um 6 all not sure why it says or it says six all potentially sh poov got a little bit of a tweak um in that tie Break um and had to withdraw uh a little bit disappointing there obviously for shapov but well done to Shelton uh semi-final stage uh Tio has fallen to quarter quarter with that Win 4 and four as far as ranking are concerned that was obviously anticipated kabo over um Shelton is the surprise I think of the event 4675 63 I think that result is actually a bit more surprising in contrast to rublev um because if you've been listening to our recent episodes rubv has been on regression and that top 10 ranking is not um correlating with his um results or his performance Okay so we've touched on obviously um those Finals results quarter getting through and Caballe and look at this quarter fourth seed over the 10th seed Caballe four 6626 love neck and neck until that third set I believe this is C's first title um but look it is a huge one to win um well done quarter this is definitely going to have um an impact on his ranking and we will get to there very very shortly because now wrapping out Washington we are heading over to Montreal so Montreal we only have a number of the first round underway CA is back in Action though really important and he is the number one seed here all right first round action um corage qualifier with a win over Martinez 4 and four Soo over Greek and SP 75 975 764 a t Fallen first round over um to Billo 4 and two with that wind bit disappointing for teero making those in rows is Hardcore Season time where we normally see tiero um get a bit of a Peak Performance at least um with the US Open again only a matter of weeks away but well down forward to Billow 15 C uh Paul with a win over toer Paul's first event back since obviously the Olympics at 6476 72 shalov fall into Nakashima qualify 6475 a Chev with a good win over Jerry 3 set 76 75 67 5762 Ruble with a buy meev with a buy it'll be mv's first event back since the Olympics um David H foren over sofin 6275 um analdi over McDonald 46 6464 um kakenov over Dio 4 and four humo over Phils 2 and two a little bit of a surprise there humo obviously is favored as far as rankings is concerned but Phils has been tracking especially from Wimbledon uh B over kovich in three 576 464 um Nisha Cory great win for Nisha Cory over miton 3675 64 it'll be great to see nishy back inside the top 100 we're not seeing that just yet but look we know what Nish Cory is capable of he's had a rough couple of seasons and we I need couple we're probably talking four to five seasons similar to rage have both of those players really been riddled with injuries rage has been able to come back back intermed we really haven't seen Nisha Cory make those inroads unfortunately but hopefully um Nisha Cori can stay healthy all right Tisa pass um it'll be his first back since the Olympics um but he's got a buy first round dimitrov is first back I don't believe or recall seeing dimitrov at the Olympics not too sure why um um rinky hijak qualify over Daniel a qualifier 6175 pop print over macac three and four Shelton Over bu very good win there 76 7462 um first round action we still got a couple of matches underway a Alis will face caboi um render neck qualified and he got a win over manarino 64 2664 um other matches konakis will play mon herass has a buy first round rud has a buy first round Duckworth with a win over gon and one that's actually a very good win for Duckworth cuz gon has been tracking quarter um is 21 at this stage over um poil I believe it's still in action as we speak all right Fritz um over none 4 and one great uh win I think for Fritz especially after the Olympics run is good back in Action over bista good two oh 62 3662 um karino buer over marizan 677 663 Thompson over Draper good win for Thompson there at 7562 and zarev is the second seed there it'll be his first event back since the Olympics obviously the same applies for what I said about the women's um it'll be g's first one back um since the Olympics and a couple of other players there but noteworthy there are still a number of players missing um in Toronto from the Olympics completely understandable so we do have some players I say coming back early but most of the players I have touched on that are back in Action from the Olympics they did not play the last couple of days they well needless to say they did not make the semifinals in all Fus all right that's all of the action on the men's side so let's head on over the rankings we will start at one as well similar to the WTA tour so we've got a little bit of a change in the top 10 similar to the WTA Dior back one herx is up one so six and seven respectively purely because Alex has dropped a couple of points there um rev gained some points he obviously didn't play the Olympics um but because he has been in action top 20 a couple of changes here Paul has um he's got a new ranking High to 12 he's bumped Fritz back to 13 but purely from dropping points not with Fritz not being in action obviously playing the Olympics uh cter is at a new ranking High he's cracked into the top 20 he's up four uh points of of of a progression to 18 in the world very significant um Bez is Back 2 to 20 in the world um other noteworthy I will look at um TFO is up to obviously 27 drap is back one to um 28 Thompson is at a new ranking High that's huge for the Aussie he's cracked into the top 30 with a three-point progression that is huge obviously our number one is behind is Alex De manure but very very significant there Bly with his finalist result he's up 15 he even though he was ranked inside the top 50 he's now 33 in the world m is back 3 to 34 Greek and sp's taking a hit 12o regression he's at 40 now um Zan's back 3 to 44 we've got a couple of shifts here many ones and twos forwards backs progressions regressions mitchellon is back he's at up fiveo progression to 55 um others we've got a lot of one renex three um he's at 65 u m is up 2 to 67 forini is up 5 to 69 very impressive forini started the season ranked just inside the top 100 so very very good inrs there for for um forini there okay other I think noteworthy career um Sixpoint progression 63 rinky has a Sixpoint progression 64 and um V Zan shop a 9o uh progression to 7 75 Muller 22 Point progression 77 there um cak is a 10o progression 81 um kofer a 12-point regression um at 82 um very very big jumps a lot for the Aussies as well okon's up 6 to 88 um lean is up 6 to 90 Muna has taken a hit a 20o regression to is back at 92 in the world cor is back 11 to 94 nardy is a 7 Point regression he's at 95 in the world and at number 100 KATV has cracked the top 100 once again um with a twoo progression wow all right that really wraps up today's episode that has been a lot with I think progressions regressions as far as rankings are concerned W ATP tours we've touched on the Olympics as well this has been a lot we've touched on Washington for um the WJ tour and the ATP Tour and we've got Toronto and Montreal in action on um the tours
