the North Carolina Tar Heels open up Thursday night in Minnesota and quarterback's going to be a problem for Carolina this year it's become alarming this is not the birthday gift that Mack Brown wants happy 73rd birthday to Mack Brown today he is the oldest coach in all of college football now that Nick Sabin is no longer coaching he's on the college game day set the levels of secrecy in Chapel Hill it's been very bizarre to follow let's review it for the off season ma Brown first wouldn't allow the ACC Network to broadcast their spring game they did some special behind the scenes all access thing instead he wouldn't release a depth chart at the start of Camp he won't release one this week either he says it's because Minnesota didn't release theirs he wouldn't even allow coordinators to speak to the media this week which is something that is common place for Carolina or at least it's been under Mack Brown on gameweeks it's out of character for ma a big part of his identity is Media friendliness and having an open flow of information not being so secretive and this works against all of that and you can't help but be alarmed because you know the old saying you can't teach an old dog new tricks if the oldest coach in all of FBS football is doing something drastically different now than he has pretty much all of his career it's fair to ask questions about that and to think there might be some red flags as a result Max comments about playing two quarterbacks Max Johnson and Connor harrold it's a red flag too listen to what Mack had to say the past week what I'm saying is that we will have both quarterbacks ready and we would play them based on how the game would dictate when you go into the game uh there'll be some that'll hear this and say he said he's gonna play two quarterbacks that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life there'll be some that say um I can't believe they don't have a quarterback they don't even have one and there will be some that say oh gosh maybe we got two quarterbacks um and really and truly they're both good they're both good enough to win but we've got to figure out what during the game works the best to win the game couple things one very defensive sore subject listening to a lot of what the narratives are going to be coming out of that and number two since we're out at a baseball stadium today doing the show let's make a baseball analogy here if you have a great closer will like let's use Mariano Rivera as an example because you're a Yankee fan do you care about the handedness of the Batters in the ninth inning do you care Oh should we be throwing Mariano in the ninth because they got a lot of left-handed batters going this inning no you wouldn't you wouldn't be worried about that at all you're not caring about matchups some pitchers you do care about mat match ups it's like I don't want to throw this guy if we got a bunch of lefties coming up that's the way Max's talking about his quarterbacks right now he's talking about these guys as if it's like you know some games we might need a righty other games we might need a lefty and it kind of when you have a quarterback that you trust it doesn't you want a closer mindset for your quarterback doesn't matter about the matchup this team's better against the Run versus this guy this team's more susceptible to being thrown down the field it shouldn't matter if you have the guy at quarterback and since Max's talking that type of way also a concern and the opener itself is concerning you don't get preseason games in college football so how's it going to look it's a power five game got to get used to this a power four game Power power five doesn't exist anymore RP Pack 12 it's a power power conference Road game it's at Minnesota it's in the Big 10 the big 10's known for making things ugly for offenses quarterback it's going to be a problem Carolina's caught a lot of breaks they got Sam how the flip from Florida State to Carolina and he started right out of the shoot and then you had a quarterback competition between Drake May and jacobe Criswell and Drake maid turned out to be better than Sam how Carolina got lucky they caught some breaks it's fair to expect that there's going to be a coming down to earth at that position and when you look at what Carolina did not do with Sam how and Drake may it leads to reasonable concerns about what they can do with lesser quarterback play
