Senator I know you've been here many times before but thanks to your efforts and the efforts of many others at the state county and local level fth is undergoing a bit of transformation our downtown is emerging as a beautiful and vibrant Hub a new water treatment plant is under construction to meet the needs of a growing [Music] [Applause] Town let's also give Zan and Ruth a big round of applause come on I can't hear you very well [Music] well great to be back in Benton County and uh how many of you have never been to one of our town meetings before raise your hands Hoy and what we want to tell you is that your members of Congress your Congressional Delegation and I can deliver this message on behalf of all of them we are not going to let the federal government bury the coffin but landfill we're just not this issue is going to get fixed period we're going to stay at it your three members of Congress want you to know that we are not going to let this landfill just get [Music] buried and the reason we feel so strongly about it is that we just think it's time to actually get the truth here methane leaks are hugely dangerous and cons consequential for local communities and by the way they're really awful for the climate and as the fellow who wrote the Bill that broke the gridlock on climate change the $400 billion in clean energy tax credits I feel very strongly about this so the challenge is is to work on all fronts it may take a statute it may be appropriate to do this with Federal Regulations but we've got to minimize you know emissions and protect communities from pollution so uh ultimately the decision of whether to expand the site uh or not is going to be made at the local level but what I have decided and I can tell you my colleagues Senator Merkley and Congressman ho are with me on this is we're going to make sure that the federal government steps up and gets you the facts for a good decision period end of discussion [Applause]
